Lazy Or Stubborn?

November 17th, 2019

Bad playcalling.

It is time to ask serious and sober questions.

One is, why is Byron Leftwich an offensive coordinator?

Joe is assuming, just like Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians has claimed, Leftwich is fully in charge of designing gameplans and calling plays. If that is true, he sure is putting together a resume why he should never be hired as a head coach.

In the first half when the Bucs needed points as the Saints ran off to a 20-7 halftime lead, this Dare Ogunbowale had more targets in the passing game than Mike Evans, who is putting up Hall of Fame numbers, and Chris Godwin, who likely will be playing in a Pro Bowl in January.

Ogunbowale had three of 20 passes targeted to him byAmerica’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. Evans and Godwin each had two (as did Lance Alworth Scotty Miller.)

Now Joe has no idea if this is by design, or if this is drummed into Jameis’ head or not. But this is simply unacceptable.

With Marshon Lattimore out of the game are you trying to tell Joe that Evans and/or Godwin couldn’t get open? That seems like a stretch.

There were reports before the season, unattributed, that Team Glazer was concerned they were paying for Bucco Bruce Arians and instead were going to get Leftwich running the offense.

Now 10 games into the season, those same fears by Team Glazer were warranted.

Any playcaller who believes ignoring two star receivers and instead force-feeding glorified practice squad players is a good thing week after week is either too lazy to change or too stubborn.

Which is it?

Correct how is it Karma and Thomas can get open all day but our guys can’t?

  3. Buddy Says:

Where is Grandpa Bucco Bruce’s accountability in turning over the offense to Byron? He did so in order to not be questioned. Bucco Bruce is FRAUD.

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

44 was Jameis’s checkdowns …not his fault. Not unusual for a teams RB to get a lot of check downs with a good rushing defense.

  5. CalBucsFan Says:

This was one of the best offenses in the league last year, now? OC-in-training is not working Glazers. Tell Licht and Arians to fire Left-which-way-or-the-other, or walk the plank yourselves.

  6. Jean Lafitte Says:

    against a good rushing defense

  7. bojim Says:

    Maybe ‘Confused’

  8. Colorado Says:

Lazy analysis Joe, Dare is a checkdown option. Jameis was forced to throw that because he didn’t have time to throw downfield.

  9. Jean Lafitte Says:

I question the long receiver patterns more than the check down passes to 44

  10. Troy Says:

WHO THROWS THE BALL JOE? Winston missed wide open receivers all day. Putting it on Lefty for Winston’s poor decision making is nonsense. Everything is an excuse with this freaking team. How about some accountability to the players?

  11. Bird Says:

    Or jameis ?

  12. Zzbuc Says:

Whomever is responsable for extending Licht’s contract has to Make some time in jail!!
    Things are so obvious!!
Licht has to go so as JW and if coaches do not maje adjustments they will have to go to.

Ive been questioning “Leftwhichway” for a while now.

Alright, theres no longer any questions…CAN HIS ARSE!

  15. Bird Says:

He wont even look to other half of the field sometimes

Going thru progressions he does not

Will not look to mike evans sometimes

    Yup. Its leftwich fault

  16. MadMax Says:

But, but leads nfl in scoring!!!!! still basement dwellers though

Stop blaming coaches! The common factor in last 10 seasons… bad players.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

Some weeks I like our offense…..Then there is other weeks like this where I scratch my freaking head wondering how they expect it to work.

Seems to me it’s a matchup issue. We didn’t matchup good today especially against their passrush and blitz package and we add no wrinkles to our game plan to nullify it. What really bothers me is it seemed they didn’t do anything much different then last time we played them and we change nothing. If we did it wasn’t noticable or defiently didn’t work.

The second half was better but not so sure it was us making the adjustment and not them.

The numbers speak for themselfs. 4 RoJo runs after the first play was a nice chunk run. This is not how you win a freaking football game especially when their passrush is getting to you. It was awful game planning.

And our practice has to suck. Only way to explain running so many screens yet about half of them are extremely poorly run.

  20. jjbucfan Says:

Leftwich sucks period!! Jameis didn’t have 2 seconds to throw. Jean is right, these routes take way too long with the O-line that we have. Oj Howard should not see the field again. Maybe he goes on IR with a hammy so teams forget what garbage he truly is and we can get a 2 or a 3 for him. We’ve been playing the wrong TE all year. Jameis did not throw the ball well today but he had zero help. They were blitzing all game and Lefty had no idea how to adjust. So instead he just told Jameis to go win it for him. Also- we are driving with 10 min left and JW hits Evans for a first down on the 30 of NO. He stone hands it. Meanwhile, Same scenario on the other side and their best receiver catches it and runs for 41. SOS with these guys.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

    Nawl…stop looking for a scapegoat….Bucs have a top offense…can’t blame BL for JWs mistakes…

    GO BUCS

  24. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Time to ship Lefty to the Dolphins to reunite ( and it’ll feel so good ) with Josh Rosen so they can reignite their previous 32nd ranked offense. Get off the golf cart like a pesky on course marshal, BA. Start calling the plays and delegate clock/game management if not replay/rules review.

  25. Pelbuc61 Says:

Glazers paid Domink and Licht to learn on the job as GMs. They were conned by Lovie and BA into hiring Telford and Leftwich as OCs. They hired 2 coaches based on their prior reputations and another (Koetter) thinking he can fix JW. Do you see a pattern here.? Obviously, they don’t learn from their mistakes and they don’t care.

  26. Rayjay1122 Says:

Not lazy or stubborn but more like dumb as a box of rocks. You just can’t fixstupid!

  27. crazyBucs_CL Says:

question is for BA “Lazy Or Stubborn”??
    Both.
trying to cover laziness by being stubborn. Laziness that can’t be fix, cause come in biological form. being old, stamina gone, wife is directing him, more interested on PR of what his coaching staff looks like….being political correct with race, gender, sexual preferences…. everything, but football. Pathetic!

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  28. Buccfan37 Says:

NFL on the job training pays well and is a highly coveted gig.

  29. Colorado Says:

Pelbuc61 do you think the GM hires the offensive coordinator??? That’s the head coach’s job.

  30. james west Says:

let’s all be honest here, it is time for the total rebuild, after 5 years 3 head coaches, offensive coordinators, defensive fronts and schemes, kickers drafted in 2nd round, swaggy baker and the boys, QB whisperer, an offensive consultant(moore} largest coaching staff in the league, uniform changes, inspirational talks by former coaches (dungy) gruden hung around pretty regular sniffing out the job, and we get this, it’s going to take new management, head coach who is not tied to any of these players, sadly it’s going to be a 3-5 year process, i think investing the future hoping it’s going to get better under this regime from licht on down to jameis is insanity, and sadly to get where we need to be some very good players are going to have to be traded for picks, this simply is not going to work glazers

  31. BucsBandit Says:

    CRITICIZING BYRON LEFTWICH IS RACIST!

  32. orlbucfan Says:

Put the blame where it belongs: Bruce A(hole)rians!

  33. Aceofaerospace Says:

Arians needs to take over this offense or quit. He serves no other purpose.

  34. ElioT Says:

I have no idea why 44 is even in the game.

It can’t be to stay in and block, as he’s often sent out in routes, and when he is in the backfield to block, Jameis is usually crushed anyways.

Rojo showed he could catch passes last week.

Why is #44 ever in the game?

I really wish someone would ask this question to BA, but no one has the stones to do it.

It’d be nice to see Rojo get more than 4 FREAKING carries in a game… even when down by 10.

  35. ElioT Says:

    It’s one of two things:

1.) The play calling is garbage

2.) Jameis isn’t capable of a more advanced scheme

But again… WHY IS #44 in the game and wearing a “C” on his jersey? What’s he doing on ST?

  36. Anonymous Says:

Nothing is stopping Jameis from throwing to Godwin or Evans the play calling is not the best but turnovers are the problem not playcalling!!!!!!

  37. rrsrq Says:

Or goes full panic mode down by 13, just stopped running the ball

  38. Greg Says:

With all due respect could we expect Arirans to call offensive plays when he flunks at time management and penalty challenges! Unfortunately the game has passed him by.

  39. Buccaneerscotty Says:

It’s the same old story year after year…. Quite frankly it’s pathetic…. and I’m over it … blah Blah Blah we are what our record says we are Losers

  40. T REX Says:

Arians cheated the Glazers and now the fans. He’s washed up. Winston is also trash.

“I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”

  41. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

T Rex one year wonder I would like to see what you do in a leadership position in your first year. Most players would wonder who the f are you! Give it time one hit wonder!

  42. Sleepy903 Says:

The game plan was awful. I know people are saying it’s because he was the check down. However if that is the case, as with any sport, you get the ball in your best players hands early and often. Once they realized they had nothing downfield they should have went to tunnel and bubble screens to spread the defense and make their DB’s tackle in space. The play calling is vanilla. WR’s can’t get open when they do they are dropping passes. I believe if we had a competent OC we would probably score 35 ppg easily. The entire staff needs to be fired. BA and the GM too. Go get Lincoln Riley. One thing about him if an assistant isn’t cutting it he’s going to fire him. No matter who it is. Let him pick his offensive players and watch him expose the defensive weaknesses. If Kliff can win a few games on his first year Lincoln Riley being a 10x’s better coach will win get you to the playoffs in 3 years or less.

  43. T REX Says:

@ tired , what do I have to do with Arians and Winston sucking? Nothing. It’s your petty and weak attempt to somehow try to deflect at the ineptitude of said losers. You’re just some keyboard jockey like me. Apparently, butt hurt about my opinion. LOL. Go cry with your Winston blow up doll and get lost. I don’t have time for more losers in my life.

  44. DalvinCookRules Says:

It looked like the Saints defense was in the Bucs huddle for most of the game. This was one of the poorest offensive gameplans I’ve seen in 40+ years of watching football.

  45. Bejesus belt Says:

I think we need to quit with using Leftwich as the scapegoat for jv football quarterbacking. Leftwich did not throw 4 picks today, shamus did. I don’t think in meetings Leftwich says throw it to Perriman or Ogu what ever his name is I think the quarterback is responsible for where the balls are thrown, either that I am giving him too much credit for being a jv quarterback. Pop warner maybe. Maybe. Time to maybe move on from the whole regime.

  46. Marlow1976 Says:

I was hoping when I woke up this morning I would read JW had joined VH III on the cut list.

  47. whaaatttsss uuuup Says:

jameis is the one throwing the ball…. if you had a QB who was ACCURATE (the number one thing a QB has to be) and who was actually an NFL starting caliber who knew how to throw receivers open and hitting them on the run then i think his offense would be a lot better… i see guys running wide open every single game!! he missed miller on a TD leading him into the safety …. weren’t you listening Joe even the announcers were calling jameis out saying “man he has just missed too many opportunities with inaccuracy and needs to throw the ball better” …. a top 10 QB and this team would have went to the playoffs this year even with the horrible defense… which it is… but how would you feel about your QB giving it up right after you played your ass off for a stand??? i know you have a love affair with him but this team can not win with Winston.. and the whole “who else ya gonna get” argument is lazy, vision less and just not a smart thing to say … it is lazy! it is what koetter said about mike smith!! that is how you sound Joe! and arians at this piont defending that horrible QB and person!!!

  48. Jeffrey Harris Says:

Please be careful with the racist description in your article that refers to a black man as lazy. Traditional stereotype you should know better.
