“Six Rookies At Times On Defense”

November 3rd, 2019

Another day of lessons for the Bucs rookies.

Remember when Bucco Bruce Arians insisted the Buccaneers were reloading and not rebuilding — and Joe insisted the Bucs should acknowledge that they are, in fact, rebuilding?

Embedded in his postgame remarks on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game was Arians noting there were “six rookies at times on defense” today: Mike Edwards, Jamel Dean, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Devin White, Anthony Nelson and Joe can’t think of a sixth right now (if there was one).

Regardless, those guys had big roles and White and the defensive backs all made costly mistakes in the game.

This is why there’s little hope for the rebuilding Bucs going on some sort of special run to close this season. The defense is way too green, and there are too many questionable talents at cornerback in a passing league.

It just really struck Joe to hear Arians say he saw all those rookies on defense at once and say that’s tough against Russell Wilson. The Bucs had opportunities to add a veteran cornerback at the trade deadline or to maybe give a guy like Ryan Smith a shot, but they went young with the season on the line.

Did they have any choice? You play with the team you have not the team you wish you had.

    Winston is 23-39

  2. ElBajito43 Says:

You play with the Sh!T that “Trash” Licht assembles
    That’s what you do.

  3. Troy Says:

Big deal. This is a bad team with no leadership and bad coaching.

  4. A Train Says:

It starts at the top. This organization will never get right without a commitment from ownership, a good GM, and the right players.

Devin White has made a couple of egregious rookie mistakes..today and against Carolina. Oh and I noticed somebody on the game thread pronounced him a bust because he missed a tackle. No mention of LVD who also missed a tackle a few plays later.

Meanwhile…White did show his speed and hustle and playmaking ability chasing down Carson and forcing the fumble. And for the second game in a row White made a game changing play forcing a fumble at a critical time in the game. He’s had THREE game changing plays in two games.

He’s a rookie with less than a half season due to the unfortunate early injuries. This reminds me a lot of Vita Vea…remember how many called him a bust last year. Next year we’ll revisit all the posters who have called White a bust and check back on their prediction.

Incase anyone forgot, we could’ve drafted a 6’4” receiver with a 40 inch vert and a 4.3 forty in second round last year. Instead we draft SMB…. could you imagine if Metcalf was our #3. I’m pretty sure BA said you don’t draft for need because it will F you, well the Bucs drafted for need and the better player burned ya today. #FireLitch

Ryan Smith was on special teams. I kept yelling at the TV in the 4th quarter take dean out. Wilson kept going at dean the whole game. How do you not make an adjustment. Roll coverage over to help him. Do something just don’t watch and leave the damn rookie on an island. Should of put in Ryan Smith or anyone that has some damn experience. We really could of used Carlton Davis while he has had his share of penalties he still looks better than most of the defensive backs we have out there besides whitehead.
