Evans And Receiving History

November 24th, 2019

Hall of Fame numbers.

It is unlikely Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans will break the 8,000-yard plateau by the end of this season. But he already has proved to be one of the best receivers in NFL history.

Evans, now in his sixth season, has 7,146 yards after today’s beatdown of the Dixie Chicks. He would have to average 170 yards over the next five games to reach 8,000.

But here are a few players who racked up as many yards as Evans in their first six seasons in the NFL:

Randy Moss 8,375;
Torry Holt 8,156;
Jerry Rice 7,866;
Calvin Johnson 7,836;
Julio Jones 7,610;
DeAndre Hopkins 7,437;
Mike Evans 7,146.

There are both cool things and sad things about this. Evans is walking where few men have gone before.

The sad thing? Despite his brilliance, Evans has yet to take a snap in a playoff game.

    And yet there were morons who were dissing ME13 for having a less than All Pro game on the game thread.

    You really can’t make this stuff up.

    I would have commented on the game thread but I’m not allowed there. I was placed on PERMANENT MODERATION after a post many many months ago about Kareem Hunt.

    Therefore it is literally impossible to post on game threads.

    And so…if you guys miss me…I’m sentenced to permanent moderation. I haven’t had a post go through in many months.

    @JOE

    Perhaps I’ve offended one of you. If not..perhaps you can share some technical secret to getting off of PERMANENT MODERATION.

    On of the best On Bucs history!! And some stupid have the nerve to question him.
    Great article Joe!!

    I’m really happy for Evens, dude could be one of those players that go on to become one of the all time greats! And the best part is he plays for the Bucs. Saying all that the last few weeks really makes me wonder if he wants to continue to play in Tampa. His body language and effort really hasn’t been there lately and I would be curious if he wants to continue in Tampa. I really hope he does and what I’m seeing is just me seeing things.

    Joe maybe I’m wrong and maybe just remember what I wanna but I see a reluctance of you to write a critical article on Evans when warranted. He was bad today. Real bad and it looked to me like he was acting like a B out there.

    Yes I remember all the KY articles from years ago but since then he seems to get more of a pass then others when he has bad games.

    Maybe my standards are too high. I don’t know. Just though he was crap today and deserves little or no praise.

    Our best receiver ever.

    Just imagine if we would have made that kick against the Giants. I knew the second we missed that it was going to kill us.

  16. Danr Says:

    I agree…

    If he had the mental toughness as those guys ranked above him he’d be the greatest….Hopkins and Calvin played with some trash QB but they were mentally tougher….CBs get in mikes head too easy…

    GO BUCS

    How about a little heresy. I believe ME13 is a GREAT WR…so is Godwin. Can we afford both? Perhaps.

    Imagine if we traded OJ…get a 1st round pick.

    ME13…a 1st rounder and then some lower rounds. We clip a huge sum off our cap.

    We’d have three first rounders…a couple of other extra picks..more to build our D and finish off our OL..Dot is literally on his final legs.

    ROJO and Barber did pretty well today. An even stronger OL with one of those three first round picks would help.

    Then the JW debate would begin for real because we could afford him. We rebalance our cap and offense and defense.

    With all that if JW can’t get by on Godwin and Brate he’s not worth the big bucks.

    Nice win but it really doesn’t do much in the grand scheme of things but give us a worse draft pick. The defense especially the secondary played a helluva game. Dean doesn’t even look like the same player that he was against Seattle. I knew coming into the year that he had elite coverage ability and instincts. He is a shutdown corner. What a turnaround he has had since that Seattle game, he has a ton of resilience. Great pass rush and damn Devin White hits like a Mac truck. He’s turning the corner into the potential Pro Bowler We all thought he would be.

    As for Jameis.. he’s so consistently inaccurate, he doesn’t have a feel or finesse for any of his passes,everything is forced will. What a display of athleticism on some of those runs. Nobody wants to win more than he does. I can’t give up on him, he tries so hard to will the team to a victory and he puts his body on the line every week that it’s impossible to give up on him. He had great protection all game but still threw some ducks, he needs to meditate and feel these throws instead of willing them. I said it before and I’ll say it again, if he meditates and improves his spatial awareness he will be an all pro. I can’t believe I’m saying this but when someone accepts responsibility in defeat and gives praise in victory and tries so hard you can’t give up your faith in him. He’s heartbreaking at times but awes you with his effort all while doing it.

    Pay him 25m 1 yr draft 2 young tackles and another pass rusher and let’s try this again next season.

    Two of the six guy ahead of him haven’t had much success or experience in the playoffs either. Calvin Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins.
