“Toys For Todd”

Todd Bowles is loaded

Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul and Vita Vea are all healthy first-round draft picks. ShaqBarrett leads the NFL in sacks. Carl Nassib is versatile and hustles.

Now we’re going to find out what Todd Bowles is really made of.

Bucco Bruce Arians coined a great phrase the other day on Buccaneers Radio: “Toys for Todd,” referring to defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

The aforementioned defensive linemen represent quite a collection of talent. Plus, rookie linebacker savior Devin White is supposed to be a lethal blitzer, and Lavonte David is having a good season.

Just two years ago, the Bucs were relying on Chris “Swaggy” Baker, while Robert Ayers and Will Gholston combined to start 20 games at defensive end and recorded just two sacks. And don’t forget Ryan Russell, Noah Spence and Will Clarke at defensive end.

“It’s fun. It’s a lot of toys for Todd to play with. Our front-7 really played a heck of a ballgame,” Arians said of Sunday’s performance versus Tennessee, noting the Bucs really shut down the run game again except for two big runs where the Bucs missed gap assignments.

Joe’s focus is on the right now and how Bowles uses these talents against the Seahawks on Sunday. There’s a ton to work with in that front-7. Supposedly, Bowles is known for getting the most out of players.

That may be true, though Joe holds out hope that Bowles isn’t getting the most out of his secondary.

Dear Joe. The Bucs D gave up under 250 yards last week and in all honesty only 13 points. The other 14 were due to your retard ignorant QB play.

  2. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

Its the refs fault, its this its that ahhhhh shut the he***** up and win a game already.

  3. Dreghost Says:

Maybe Todd could figure out a way to show Jason Licht how to scout some REAL defensive backs! Then we really have some fun with that defense…#toysfortodd offseason goal

  4. Lamarcus Says:

Secondary is trash. Even Vh3 demoted himself

Might as well let Dean and Murphy-bunting take their lumps can’t get any worse

  5. ou812 Says:

Improve By subtraction. FIRE LICHT /BENCH Winston! @jameis 1 of 1 look it up on youtube! Bucs Fake Gm accounts. Then you will get an idea of how bad this team is run.

  6. Go Bucs 72 Says:

JPP is playing for a contract. He’s going to keep wrecking QB’s and making TFLs but the problem remains that the secondary is horrendous so it’s probably not going to equal any more wins which is sad.

  7. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

This is like putting lipstick on a pig….LMAO and SMDH!

  8. pelbuc Says:

JPP, Suh and Barrett won’t be with Bucs next year. Thanks to Licht, defense will need a total re-do of Dline and DBs as well as at least 2 new starters on the Oline and another RB, not to mention depth. All this could be accomplished with a competent GM and NOT signing JW. This league is showing well balanced teams can win with back ups. But unfortunately, none of this will happen cuz Licht and BA are married to JW and this tragic trinity will be shoved down the throats of Bucs fans for years to come.

  9. Tye Says:

WOW! there is a pod cast or radio show or something (youtube) talking about Bucs GM having burner account to troll Bucs sites to promote ole ‘Turnover’…
    I would not be surprised!

  10. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Supposedly supposedly supposedly … Just tell us how you really feel

  11. ou812 Says:

That is Jason Licht . Listen to it. its him ! And was traced to his IP address . This team is a joke but I am not laughing because I paid money for this Sh#t.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

We need one more dynamic piece on our Defensive front 4. It will probably come next season as Suh moves on to the highest bidder.

  13. Buczilla Says:

You can add Lawrence Taylor, Derrick Thomas, Reggie White, and Sapp to the defense and the db’s will still give it up as much as the “classy” ladies on Nebraska Ave. Licht should forever be banned from scouting defensive backs. Any jacka$$ could have read some pre draft magazines and made better picks at defensive back than Licht. It takes a special level of ineptitude to get it wrong so many times.

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

There was a lot made about the QB showdown between JW and Mariota which never materialized.

I didn’t care. This weekend is the one that I hope JW can pay attention. Russ Wilson is the anti Jameis…the total opposite.

Part of it is his different skill set….he was a good enough runner in college to bootleg as a QB…he’s good enough in the NFL to save broken plays WITHOUT the stupid turnovers of JW. Wilson is in the top three historically for his low int % behind Rodgers and Brady.

It’s been said that Wilson is not going to single handedly win a game for you ala Mahomes…but he doesn’t lose games ala JW.

And Wilson is among the best in the league at throwing the deep ball while on the move. He is accurate. Hope Bowles figures a way to stop him…it won’t be easy.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

Good of got a good vet DB(s) for Brate on Tuesday. Sidelined for practice on Wednesday (SMH ×10).

I sure hope not. Such a scary thought on Halloween.

Even I’ve given up on Winston!

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

Agree with stpetebucsfan that a Wilson is a tough matchup to come away with a win from.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Rats, we’re in trouble. Seattle’s defense isn’t really all that good (#20 in POINTS ALLOWED giving up 24.5 PPG average). BUT … they do quite well generating turnovers against bad teams (3 takeaways against the Bengals, 4 against the Browns & 3 against the Falcons). And yup, they won the TO battle & won all 3 games. Overall they’re #5 in generating turnovers, and chances are they’re looking at the Bucs as being ripe for the picking. Given our last 2 games, who could blame them?

Seahawks offense is very consistent in scoring in the 20’s (average is 26 PPG). Same with their defense it looks like (held the Cards to 10 pts, but everyone else is in the 20-30 range except for the Saints who scored 33 pts and beat them). They’ve got a Plus 7 turnover differential after 8 games, which is probably the key reason that they’re 6-2 on the season.

Unless some major changes are made to our offense, I’m not very hopeful about coming away with a win. But if our OLine can protect Jameis, and if he can stop scoring for the other team, we’ve got a chance at least.

  19. doolnutts Says:

Personally, I think the front 7 is playing outstanding. And lets be honest with ourselves here. A lot of this is the coaching. Our offense has been awful for over a decade and last year we did add some pieces but largely this defense remained in tact. The front line itself was the most criticized by most and they have so far been a pleasant surprise. The back end, however, has been a different story entirely. I think crap shooting in the draft for DB’s should probably stop. I would bring in a FA or two maybe trade for someone but that is just me.

  20. TOM Says:

If the Bucs continue like they have so far I wouldn’t be surprised to see BA going back into retirement because of health reasons. If that happens then the Glazer’s should fire loser Licht. Probably won’t happen & if so we will be seeing Licht, Winston, BA & his coaches back next season. The only other hope we have is that the Glazer’s wake from there coma & sell the team.

Above is an example of blind hate and football stupid at the same time. He is literally blaming a early snap, that hit him I’m the face, and a confirmed bad route (by both the coach and WR) on the QB. What more do you need to prove people like this are not objective and just don’t like the QB no matter what he does? Again blind hate and football stupid, SMH.

  22. chuckabuc99 Says:

I agree with Lamarcus, keep Hargraves in slot and let Dean & Murphy-Bunting take their lumps on the outside. We may as well find out what we really got in the draft.

  23. Bobby Says:

I agree that a lot of this is coaching. Play calling is pedestrian at best and the inability to get the TE’s involved is mind numbing. We have Cameron Brate and OJ Howard and somehow they become exclusive blockers during games. What ever happened to crossing routes? Quick hitters that develop rapidly and don’t require Winston to hold the ball for eternity. I’m sorry but if Tom Brady had Howard and Brate they would be well fed and then he’d take the top off because they had to respect the underneath routes. There was a reason Gronk had the numbers he had. I’m not comparing Howard or Brate to Gronk but they are both big targets and you have to find a way to get them involved. A good high school O-coordinator could find a way to move the ball down the field with the weapons we have. Mike Evans, Godwin, Brate, Howard and ROJO who is way underutilized. It’s pathetic to watch us struggle because we’re always trying to push the ball down field instead of hitting crossing routes and feeding ROJO more.

I can’t believe @sharthappens doesn’t get blocked/moderated with his totally unnecessary posts. Joe’s, how come you don’t write an article questioning why some of our so-called fans think it’s fine to call JW, “unintelligent, stupid, a retard” so consistently and not have to answer for it? I’d love for some of these deluded, arm-chair GM’s to sit down and get schooled by Jameis in the X’s and O’s. But behind their computer/phone they feel completely safe making these comments; calling him stupid, as if they know more than a guy that plays the game professionally; because no one’s there to call them out on their bs while they’re sitting at home, beating their meat in sadness. It just highlights their ignorance. It also highlights the toxic atmosphere that’s been cultivated by this site and its creators. @sharthappens is a piece of shart and obviously has nothing else to do then hit the refresh button every five seconds waiting for the next post that he can FIRST and spew his garbage. Otherwise, love the site, thumbs up, keep the hate-click articles flowing!!!
