Staying The Course

October 14th, 2019

Unlikely to be benched.

After America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, lost his damn mind yesterday and started handing out more freebies than the old woman sweating over an electric skillet at the Aprons kiosk at Publix, a lot of Bucs fans wanted Jameis benched.

And Albert Breer of theMMQB.com asks, for whom?

One reason Jameis will start the rest of the season, Breer typed this morning, is that the Bucs have no backup. Well, one that is remotely reliable.

There’s no reason for the Buccaneers not to ride out the season with Jameis Winston (it’s not like Gardner Minshew is waiting on the bench). Winston made significant progress prior to this week, but the turnover issue popping up again in that fashion is nothing if not troubling.

Was yesterday the end of Jameis’ days as a Bucs quarterback? No. But it was a major setback and a possible roadblock to returning in 2020.

If Jameis returns to throwing dimes the way he did in a three-game stretch prior to the International Embarrassment, Joe would be surprised if he’s not back next year.

One more idiotic game like yesterday and Jameis’ fate may be sealed for good.

Hey, look at the bright side, at least Jameis didn’t throw a pick-six yesterday. Progress!

“No, I’ve had a lot of bad games, but hopefully I’ll play more good games than bad games.”

Joe.. is that our Franchise QB speaking? That sounds more like 8-8 guy than 11-5. I wish he had said…my bad games will be rare as hens teeth so we can win a SB…. as we used to say in the Midwest. Or rare as a blind hog finding an acorn, as they say in Florida. Or something like that.

  2. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Just a matter of time….Jamyth will play just good enough to but the Bucs down in the draft just far enough to top QB’s will be out of reach…Hugh Culverhouse…what evahhh…we need OL and DL help first….for Jamyth Stat Carriers….many of his recorded completions are poorly thrown balls….all you have to do his what Teddy Bridgewater (example)…throw beautifully timed and delivered balls last week…of course you can see that with any good QB at any level…Jamyth is NOT that type of QB….hence he has no place as a starter in the NFL

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Seriously Joe? Jameis’ highlight of the day is that he DIDN’T throw a Pick-6? Uhh, it’s not because he didn’t try. He tried 5 times matter of fact.

  4. DB55 Says:

Jameis was dropping dimes all day. Ints were caused by pressure and the fact that the Panthers out muscles and outplayed everybody except Godwin.

If you look at the Tape though Winston was dropping dimes all day. No wonder he had 400 yards passing and broke another Bucs all time record.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I disagree entirely…..the only way Jameis plays out the season is if we are winning enough to bring him back….if we continue to lose he will be benched and Griffin will get some much needed and deserved experienced…..and how do we know that he isn’t a capable backup….he’s performed very well in preseason.

Joe is holding out his last bastion of hope that Jameis will eventually be worth his “America’s QB” moniker…….

Do we need to be spending $25 million on a QB who hasn’t improved in 5 years?

  6. Defense Rules Says:

BTW Joe, THAT photo of Jameis is NOT a photo of a TEAM LEADER. Good job Photoshopping though to erase the tears.

  7. Locked In Says:

Does anyone believe he will not have ‘One more idiotic game like yesterday…’?

  8. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Anthony Becht was breaking down his film this morning and stated that Jameis had two turnovers that were on him. The first pick should have been a completion or at least broken up if Evans had move forward as he was expected to do. He said the Kuechly pick and the fumble were on Jameis. The last two picks were as time running out and he had to try and make a play. Becht said neither of those were really on Jameis, and certainly not the one where the defender hit his arm as he was releasing the pass. He also touched on the dropped TD bomb to Evans as well as the other one he missed late. He basically summed it up by saying that Jameis threw a lot of good passes, had a couple of mistakes, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the casual fans and Jameis bashers are saying. That is an objective opinion and I happen to agree with it. He also said Jameis will most certainly be the starter in two weeks.

  9. mark2001 Says:

Locked…what do you mean? Not have another game like this? That only means ten good games in a row. You make that sound nearly impossible.

  10. mark2001 Says:

TBTB.. Becht must have been looking at another game film. The picks and fumble aside, Jameis’s passes weren’t sharp much of the game. Many were high, low, to the wrong shoulder and not away from the defenders in some cases. And we are talking short range passes.

  11. Bird Says:

    He looked fantastic

  12. Marine Buc Says:

Don’t bench Winston. Let him flame out and lose the rest of our games this year. At least we can start talking about the draft. Yea!!! Hey Joe – when can we see a few draft posts?

  13. DB55 Says:

Kuechly pick and the fumble were on Jameis.
    ————–//
Actually the Kuechly pick jameis got drilled by Bruce Irvin as he released the ball which caused it to change trajectory and land right in Luke’s hands.

  14. Fartman Says:

I mean… why would we pay Winston 30 million when Kyle Allens and Garner Minshews are out there… who actually win games.

  15. Perimeter Blocker Says:

I don’t want to draft another rookie! Draft – Develop – Suck – Repeat…🙄! People criticized Gruden for not “developing a young QB”…. maybe he was smarter than everyone! We won with journeyman QB’s! (Johnson / Garcia). Think of the past… Testeverde, Dilfer, King, Freemen, now Winston! I don’t want to wait and see if the next “greatest QB” is the next “greatest QB” for 5 years! Thank God I went to Super Bowl and saw them win. It will probably never happen again! Lastly, do we really think Licht will pick a good QB????!!!!

  16. Bird Says:

No reason he shouldn’t have been benched after the third pick and fumble
Game score wise was not out of hand.
See what Ryan griffin looks like …why not ? Bye has never taken a snap as starting NFl QB

Jameis played better after benching last year
Maybe he needs kick in butt

And he could regroup after bye cause he will get full year unless he has another game like yesterday

  17. DB55 Says:

But yes the second fumble was PTSD Jameis and 100% on him.

The first one however again Irvin was in the passing lane which caused Jameis to pull it down and he got hit in .02 secs.

If you’re looking for someone to blame look no further than Josh Wells.

  18. Fartman Says:

no since in benching him now… we should ride him to a high draft pick next year.

  19. TNBucsFan Says:

I have tried to remain hopeful with Jameis and have defended him at times, but I am finally giving up. It is not just the interceptions. It is the dumb decision-making on top of the fact that he is doing it in a time when it is supposed to be easier to pass than ever and with a receiving squad that is highly talented. I have to believe nearly every QB in the league would look better throwing to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. I hope BA proves me wrong on all of this but I am giving up until proven otherwise.

  20. Fartman Says:

love this time of year… when every Buc fan can start thinking about the draft.

  21. Capt. Reality Says:

Joes love for Jameis is baffling. Jameis is like an abused puppy now. He panics as soon as he drops back. Even if the pocket is developing around him he is freaking out and trying to move out of it. He should have been benched Sunday. I say give him the game after the bye. But the next bad performance put RG in to play the rest of the way. You never know what might happen. Nobody thought Kyle Allen was good either they drafted Will Grier.

  22. mark2001 Says:

    Bird said “He looked fantastic.”

So they said in NC, Georgia, and NO yesterday….and every other team competing for a top five draft pick.

  23. Marine Buc Says:

Josh Freeman threw 68 interceptions in 62 career games. Jamies Winston has thrown 68 interceptions in 62 career games. Is this some sort of sick joke?

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    joe….on 9/8 you wrote this:

Yes, today was a disaster from America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

    Horrible.

And he and Bucs coaches can’t blame an absent running game or brutal defense. The veteran QB crapped the bed.

Twenty-one million apparently doesn’t buy what it used to — and neither does the cash for four dedicated QB coaches.

Jameis did all the things he’s not supposed to do any longer, fumble, needless interceptions and questionable decisions.

  28. RustyRhinos Says:

My hope is in two weeks we see the last of the let’s ride the #1 pick his entire last season of his Rookie contract. All while yes, he continues to stack up more milestones, breaking team records, passing stats record breaking yard after yard pass after pass, with a ongoing five seasons of continued collection of stacked L’s to his career record here in Tampa.

Yet all is well for us Buccaneers fans right? Maybe the next game, or the game after we might again see the good Jameis? All while we are privileged to watch a back up undrafted QB stack up W’s against our team. While we can’t ever know what we have in Griffin or any other QB behind the fragile Ego of America’s QB the franchise QB of the Buccaneers. Why again was it the he doesn’t need to be looking over his shoulder at other QB’s better play? With another game like this he might need to be looking out for the reaper.
Two weeks of off time to mend our wounds and suit back up. Stay focused, stay humble, stay driven.
Show me, talking is BS. SHOW ME!

I’m not even excited about the draft anymore. Licht will just screw that up too. I’ve been a Bucs fan since 1976. We drafted better back then. Evaluated players better back then. By 79, we made the playoffs. 4 years. People forget too easily.

  33. ElioT Says:

    Griffin is not the answer.

The Bucs have nothing to lose playing Jameis the rest of the year.

If he plays okay, they’ll franchise him.

If he lights it up and delivers on his potential, a long term contract is on the table.

    It’s pretty simple really.

  34. BAforPresident Says:

I am tired of people saying we don’t have a backup. How do we know??

What about the unproven backups that are starting now who have averaged a better QB rating than Jameis over the past two weeks??

    Jags – Minshew (6th Round 2019)
    Panthers – Allen (undrafted 2018)
    Steelers – Hodges (undrafted 2019)

No one expected these players to do well, and they don’t have Mike Evans or Chris Godwin.

  35. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

WHAT??? Joe…”if he does it just ONE MORE TIME…..” C’mon MAN!! Read what you wrote and call a timeout, and huddle up with the other Joe!!! One more time??? They might not bench him (I’d suggest they absolutely should!), but they are DEFINITELY NOT going to sign him to a $30million or whatever extension. LET HIM GO!!! We’re only here for ONE REASON…to WIN a Super Bowl. And that will NEVER HAPPEN with this idiot at QB.

  36. MadMax Says:

    So tired of his mug…..

We need Eason and Delpit!!! Make it happen Licht!

I wanted to trade down but we need top shelf help.

  37. Bradinator Says:

He’ll have a couple of good games and then Jameis “Hopekiller” Winston will break Bucland’s collective spirit again. The pattern was set 5 years ago and hasn’t changed one bit (actually he’s the same guy he was in college , but I don’t want to be more sour than I already am). He looks jittery and still can’t the ball out his hands even to just throw it away. “Trying to do too much” comes from putting your team in a hole in the first place. A rookie QB next year? Nope we’ll finish with a mediocre record, and be out of the running for a decent one. Can’t put one behind this O-line, which means “veteran caretaker” until we fix the line and develop a QB. Won’t that be fun?

  38. Conte Piscatelli Says:

As We all know Ryan Griffin has never taken a live NFL snap. So he has never gotten an opportunity to throw passes in a game preseason or otherwise to what may be the best group of WR/TE in the league. Griffin may understand that the job is to distribute the ball to the talent on the team, not try to win games with every snap. I see no harm in seeing how he does, and perhaps the talent on the team wouldn’t mind seeing a pass delivered on time and in rythem.

  39. Jean Lafitte Says:

Maybe it’s time for me to just hang up my fandomship. I can’t go another 3-4 years of this same ol crap from the QB position. Personally I think if Griffin were even given a remote chance to play, he might actually outplay Winston. But we’ll never know because the people standing on the bully pulpit will have you scared not to at least try. What the he|| do you have to lose? more football?

  40. BucsBandit Says:

    BENCH JAMEIS WINSTON NOW.

Only BAD things will come from not benching Winston at this point…

You run the risk of “Good Jameis” stringing together some decent games and creating the once again, FOOL’S GOLD that he has elite potential. That could lead to the team giving him that long-term extension which would be disasterous for this team.

You bench him now to send the message that he’s NOT our QB of the future and we’re moving on.

lLet Ryan Griffin play. So what if he stinks it up. This team is already not going to be making the playoffs barring a miracle win streak.

BENCHING JAMEIS TODAY *IS* THE BEST MOVE FOR THE TEAM.

Nothing good can possibly come from letting him continue to play. Nothing.

  41. Bucsfanman Says:

Maybe not the season but, why would you keep a guy in who just doesn’t have “it” that day? What’s the harm in actually trying to win a game when your starting QB is struggling?
Many QBs have been benched for lack of production during a game.
I just don’t know what people expect when Jameis throws 50+ attempts. It is LITERALLY a disaster waiting to happen. And oh, IT DID!

  49. WestChap Says:

JW’s defenders have to show some sense of reality… you can’t say he looked “fantastic” or that he was “dropping dimes” and have anyone believe you watched the game. The exceptions were the accurate passes (and there were a few). You could fill a highlight reel with all the off-target throws and the “locked onto a single receiver” stare downs. Its not fair to blame Evans for not breaking up the first bad pass or to excuse JW for the Kuechly pick for which he stared down his receiver and never saw Kuechly sliding into the passing lane.

JW is very talented. The Rams game illustrates what he can do when receivers play perfectly and he’s perfectly protected by the OL… and Sunday illustrates what happens when he’s asked to compensate for a lack of perfection from his teammates… he presses, tries too hard and makes it worse. I think he needs to leave to be successful because he needs a broadly talented and disciplined team that just needs his arm not his leadership. The Bucs simply need more than he’s got to give. No need to blame anyone (Licht), it just is what it is.

  50. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Thank you for being reasonable ELiot. As expected a lot of dumb talk about the third stringer being better than the guy that holds on the passing records in Tampa. That 3rd stringer started the season as the third string because he was the worst QB on the roster. Bandit said it best, Jameis just may play several more games and string together some wins. The only reason to start RG is if you are tanking. No fing way we have a bettter chance at winning with him. Posters saying that don’t even believe that I am sure.

  55. BucsBandit Says:

    HEY BUCSFANMAN,

You just touched on something CRITICAL that I’ve been saying for many months…

When “Bad Jameis” plays why he is NEVER taken out of the game?

Why don’t coaches sit Jameis for the rest of the game and let him regroup?

Why not give one of our backup QBs, like Griffin, a chance to come in take some snaps, especially when the game is out of reach?

The fact that Jameis has been given so much leeway is a JOKE. That’s why he has racked up so many garbage time stats. We can be down 21+ points and they just leave him in the game no matter how bad he has been playing.

STUPID. They’ve handled Winston with kid-gloves and need to step up and have the balls to sit him on the bench when he’s deserving to sit; which has been in many games.

  56. America's Disgrace Says:

The only reason there is no quality back up on the bench is because they don’t want their weak minded quarterback looking over his shoulder concerned he will get supplanted by said back up. Yes, Jameis has all the physical talent in the world as some of you say, the problem is up stairs. I am starting to think that anyone that doesn’t that either has FSU goggles on or is as dumb as he is. Starting with the Joes…

  57. MtBucsFan Says:

Horrible game but that was a hell of a pass to Evans that he dropped.

  58. Defense Rules Says:

Does anyone else besides me think that it’s ironic that the Bucs wouldn’t re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick because he represented ‘competition’ to Jameis threatening his apparent fragile ego, and yet now, without competition, we have Jameis playing like Ryan Fitzpatrick II?

  59. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

  63. Bucsfanman Says:

BucsBandit- It’s a mystery to me because what’s the goal? Winning, right? He should’ve been benched at the end of the 3rd with the game out of hand.
Would Griffin have done any better? Who knows?! Probably not but, what do you have to lose at that point?
If anything, you finally get the guy game experience. Judging by our o-line play, it won’t be long before his number is called anyway!

  64. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I pointed out years ago…his turnovers dramatically increase when he is sacked a lot. Why is that?

    Offensive Line.

I realize people are still upset over the game, but let’s be frank here…the offensive line had two backups on the right side and the Panthers knew it. Jameis had zero time on most plays.

It isn’t just about bad decisions. When he has no time, he also doesn’t have the time to make good decisions.

That’s not an excuse, it’s a simple fact.

Lay all the blame you want on Jameis…but it was not his fault this time.

And yes, the Panthers had two OL guts out too…but their DL guys are better. Right now.

We’ve been putting huge points up against good teams in close games. We’re six games at 2-4 with a totally different scheme and a secondary that aren’t out of their rookie contract. Gay is looking like he can be our solid kicker for the future. You no faithers are idiots, also.

Two things though. Minter needs to be starting ILB if they really want what has been a very solid LB corp. Devin White will no doubt get his, but he’s not what he was thought to be. Or just hasn’t gotten the scheme yet. PULL A ROJO WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR!

The other, Patrick Peterson needs to be brought in NOW. Arians says we’re soft and don’t have any leaders. Boom! Two in one package for Bowels defense.

  67. SteelStudBuc Says:

Ryan Griffin deserves a shot. Jameis is an abused dog dropping “dimes” on the kitchen floor. Scares to death.

  68. Tye Says:

It is time to move on from Winston.. There are several young QBs that have been drafted since him that are playing above and beyond JW… He is getting schooled by backups that are out playing him and he has started over 60 games..
Continue to start him only proves the team isn’t concerned with winning because it is cemented in the history book of the NFL that W is a losing qb and nothing more…

  71. SOEbuc Says:

You see that bomb that went through Mike Evans hands that had a possible TD written all over it? Sh!t happens and Jameis has been much better on the deep ball this year.

  72. Nick2 Says:

The only worse day I can remember a Buc quarterback having was the 6 interception day by Steve Deberg way back when. My buddy and I who had season tickets back there left after 4 picks and he threw two picks between our seats and getting to the car. Now that was a bad day!!!!

  73. Tbbucs3 Says:

And can we move on from this “agressive” scheme that Bruce Arians runs which essentially only includes downfield passes of 15+ yards which is not QB friendly at all.

The scheme is incredibly hard for a QB and essentially only works with a great Oline and an elite QB (which Winston is not).

Winston is capable of being a good QB in this league but it’s not gonna work with a coach telling him to constantly force the ball down the field.

Byron Leftwhitch sucks BTW, amazing how people were talking about him becoming a head coach after 1 good offensive preformance against the Rams.

  74. Tbbucs3 Says:

But that was mostly ESPN and national media talking about BL becoming a head coach. No Bucs fan in their right mind would have thought that.

By the way the writer there states we have no Gardner Minchew behind Jameis. No we have Ryan Griffin who at one point New Orleans tried to hide on the practice squad and Sean Payton (who seems to have an excellent eye for talent especially QBs’) was mad we took him. I think the season will be over soon and I am not counting on Jameis returning to form. I hope I am wrong but yesterday was very disturbing if your trying to say he is finally getting it and its all falling into place. You can easily say Jameis handed that game to the Panthers and also handed the 49ers the 1st game of the year. So 6 games in and 1/3 of them Jameis has handed out a victory to the other team????? I am officially off the Jameis Winston bandwagon and I used to defend him over and over again.

  79. Architek79 Says:

This is a trash product on the whole. Jameis and Licht are the clear faces of this era of losing. Benching don’t fix it. I don’t have faith that Licht can draft the right qb or build a competitive roster. It’s a lost and rudderless ship. That look that Arians had was the look of Koetter and many others yesterday. Like, are you serious and how did I sign up for this trash.

  80. Bojim Says:

I really like him but if he hasn’t figured out he doesn’t need to force things by this time, well… I like the Bucs better than one player.

  81. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Bucs are that guy who is married to a terrible wife yet are deathly scared of divorce because she might go somewhere else and do better without you. Her fanatical friends have everyone convinced that it’s really YOU who are the problem. Are you perfect? No, but you know compared to everyone else you can’t excuse her any longer.

If the marriage is unhappy year after year stop lying to yourself saying it might get better. Especially when all your peers are finding hot young replacements. Get out now before the divorce becomes too expensive like Minnesota!!!!!

  82. 541BucsFan Says:

    Thank You very much.

    Sincerely,

-Every NFC South Defensive Back if the Bucs resign JW

  83. Buc1987 Says:

Start Griffin or find another Brad Johnson.

  84. Pete I Says:

Don’t bench him! He needs all the opportunities to suck more. That way hopefully there will be no debate about cutting him loose when we finish with another losing season.

  85. SOEbuc Says:

Is it me or did Jameis not throw for 400 yards with the right side of the oline playing horrific backups? I watch Bucs games and get a serious migraine when I think we gave Donovan Smith $40 million. I do believe it is time to move on from Jameis after this year, though. At least for the money, I feel he could never be able to take us to the promise land. Swing “Swung around Donovan Smith” to RT and draft a LT in the first or second round. LT Andrew Thomas (Georgia) would be a dream.

  86. BrianBucs Says:

Having no quality or experienced backup QB was Licht’s and Arian’ s plan all along for times like this. This eliminates the QB controversy plus keeps Winston on the field when there are times that his play is a disaster. Plus, it would be absolutely horrible for Licht if Ryan Griffin hit the field and lit it up and won.
Licht wants more than anything else to be able to sign Winston to a long term deal. His worst nightmare would be what is happening in Carolina right now where the backup looks much better than the starter and is winning games.
I’m sure that when Arians was hired that his only QB option is Winston, good or bad

  87. A Train Says:

DB55, I agree, the Bucs line is HORRIBLE and anyone behind center with this line is at risk. However, Ryan Griffin has something Winston does not have…agility and quickness to run like hades or at least get out of the tackle box and dump it to avoid a sack. Winston is as slow as he looked when he ran the 40 at the combine next to Mariotta, like he was standing still.

GODWIN IS ON TOP OF THE UNIVERSE!!!

JAMEIS IS IN THE FIERY PITS OF HELL!!!

Uhhhh…doesn’t add up 2019 Jameis haters. Six games into the season (2-4) putting up serious points with Leftwich (supposedly) calling the plays. We have a weak, young defense that just needs to “gell” over the next few years under Bowels and we will be much stronger. Unless Jameis can take us to at least the second round of the playoffs, he’s gone, but he’s not playing terrible football at the moment.

  90. Ben real Says:

When jameis is gone I will be as excited as the Bucs clinching a playoff berth

  91. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lmao @ Nick! Sean Peyton hid him on the fing practice squad dude. You don’t “hide” good players on the practice squad. You put players on the practice squad because they aren’t good enough. My god the nonsense from Tampa fans is mind blowing.

  92. MadMax Says:

Hot dmn…..tmax is jameis, or a family member….words out boy

  93. D-Rome Says:

(it’s not like Gardner Minshew is waiting on the bench).

Well, no one really knows that. Even the Jaguars didn’t know that. He was a 6th round pick and for all intents and purposes, a project. I think Minshew is playing better than Nick Foles would have played but we really don’t know that either. As it stands right now the Jaguars and the Panthers have no reason to go back to their big money QBs once they are healthy.

No one knows if Ryan Griffin is a better QB than Jameis Winston. I don’t think he is. I think Jameis still gives the team the best chance to win this year, and wins is all I care about.

For all the Bucs failures since 2015 people can blame Jameis, people can blame Jason Licht, and people can blame both. However, there are still fools out there that blame neither. This mess is someone’s fault and I believe the fault lies with Jason Licht first and foremost.

  94. ClodHopper Says:

Jameis is junk. Defending him for the few things he does right is like defending your whore wife because every once in a while she gives the best BJ youve ever had.

It’s like defending your felon kid because he got an A+ in math once.
It’s like defending your dog biting someone’s arm off because the dog is good at playing dead

  95. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

This is Jamyth’s prove it year..not next…you have to factor in how much cap space he commands this year and next , those dollars next year are needed for FA’s and signing our own keepers….

  96. WalkdaPlank Says:

The Jameis junkies are out in full force today huh?

  97. Defense Rules Says:

Just read an interesting report on CBS Sports that their projected draft now has the Bucs picking Oregon’s Jordan Love with our #14 pick in 2020. Obviously hogwash because we’ll be drafting a lot higher than that. (CBS Sports has the Falcons, Chargers & Titans picking before us). BTW, in their projection, Love was the #5 QB taken in the 1st Rnd next year (behind Herbert, Tua, Burrow & Eason).

  98. DB55 Says:

    Atrain

Okay but remember that Griffin injured his shoulder playing behind this line, so did Gabbret and Winston. Fitz was smart enough to RUN JAMEIS RUN.

As they should be. He is straight trash and no one in their right mind would pay him over $15 million a year at this point. Even that would take a move of considerable desperation from an organization to get that!

  103. Aceofaerospace Says:

Why is Griffin still occupying a roster spot?

  104. JimmyJack Says:

Glad they are staying the course. I for one am going to blindly hope for a miracle turnaround.

I will stay on this sinking ship. So I’ll get up for the next game. And I’ll stuggle to maintain hope for this QB and team. I know I’m fittin to get blindsided(again) but I’m jumping in the fire anyway……..See y’all on the other side.

    GOOO BUCS!!!!

The best bang for the salary cap $$$$ in the NFL is drafting a 1st round QB ….

  106. PSLBob Says:

I’ve been saying it for 3 years now. Start Griffin. Season’s over. We’ve carried Griffin for 4 or 5 years and several different coaches have commented on how good he is. He stays on the roster but has never started (played?) in a regular season game. Let’s see what he’s got. Maybe our backup QB can startle other teams for a change!!!!

“So you cannot defend Winston. I agree.”

    LOL!

That makes absolutely zero sense, lol.

  109. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I doubt this will happen, but wouldn’t it be something if Winston got injured and Griffin had to start a few games…and we ended up with a Bledsoe – Brady situation?

    Nah…can’t happen.

    Right?

  110. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I don’t have the time nor patience to deal with low IQ commenters.

  111. Oregonbucsfan Says:

Anybody notice the influx of new coaches (49rs, rams, etc.) doing interesting things. And, how about the new QBs like Minshew and Allen lighting it up. What do we have for hope in the Future: an old warrior who has seen better days and his “must-have” play caller and Famous Jameis who is playing like a rookie in his fifth year.
In another thread I mentioned how a poor QB can take the emotional high of overcoming obstacles into a “here we go again” resignation. I contend that is what is going on with certain players like Evans. Not to excuse Evans but it is what it is and Jameis is at the center.
BA is re-thinking his retirement strategy right now, and he should. This hearse is about to lose its transmission.

love this time of year… when every Buc fan can start thinking about the draft.

^^^Ahhhh fall. The leaves start falling and so our heads and hopes for a winning season. Wonderful time of year indeed.

  115. Touchdown, Tampa Bay Says:

TouchDown.. even though you’re a massive fraud and name crook, you’re right. I heard the same thing this morning. Jamies did suck yesterday but so did the entire team!

  116. Bucsace Says:

Message to the Glazers: Quarterbacks who play at Winston’s level are available all over the place, and at a much lower salary

  117. firethecannons Says:

I would like to see Bucs move on from Jameis, the draft has excellent options and fact is Bucs cannot afford to keep Jameis, we are broke, time for a better cheaper option.will never trust jameis going forward, kid has had so many very bad games. we are not superbowl bound with him so why keep him. just saying truth we all know.

  118. ElioT Says:

    @America’s Disgrace

Name calling like a child, easy to do behind a keyboard little fella.

If I could write it out for you in Crayon I would:

Let Jameis play out the year and prove one way or another with 150% certainty that is he is or isn’t the future.

There is too much money on the line here for them to cut what could be his final year as a Buc short. His year is guaranteed and I do not believe the Bucs owe him anything for 2020 if he get’s injured.

I think it’s pretty clear that there are no playoffs for this team and Jameis is a FA in 2020 so again, make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt what you have in this dude before you sh*t or get off the pot.

What inside information do you have to where you think Griffin can come in and lead this team to the 2019 playoffs?

NEVER THROWN A PASS IN THE NFL REGULAR SEASON!

THERE’S A REASON WHY HE’S BEEN CONTENT TO SIT ON THE BENCH HIS ENTIRE CAREER!!!!

I’m no Winston apologist and if you think otherwise, look through my posts. I don’t think he’s as good or as bad horrible as people make him out to be.

The Bucs have paid his a** already, so let him live or die on his own sword, this season is already done barring a miracle.

  119. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing what Griffin has, but it probably ain’t much. However, at this point, unless you are “a deaf, dumb and blind kid that sure plays a mean pinball,” you know that Jay Miss is not the answer.
He is consistently inconsistent. He makes terrible decisions with the football, has no pocket awareness and is America’s Turnover Machine. It’s been 5 long freaking years, there are lots of good QBs coming out this year, and the current business model of the NFL means you can’t lock up a guy for 30M a year unless he walks on water. Jay Miss is not that guy. All you jabroni’s that think he’s going to go to another team and suddenly “get it” are delusional. Jay Miss is what he is. Consistently inconsistent. However, with all that being said, I have no faith in Licht My Balls to pick a QB. He and Jay Miss both need to be shown the door.

  120. Buc4evr Says:

Jameis is an idiot savant. He does a few things very very well but makes huge mental errors every single game. He never learns from his mistakes after 5 years of fumbles and stupid interceptions. Time for Jameis to ride the pine and see if Griffin has the juice. I hope the Bucs are looking for a veteran Qb and planning on getting a QB in the draft. After Sunday the Jameis experiment is over and he needs to be gone next season.

  121. BucsBandit Says:

BOYCOTT THE BUCS UNTIL JAMEIS IS GONE

  122. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

All Jameis bashers in full force I see. If I was all of you I would be wanting a revamped offensive line not a new QB just to see the same results. Any QB who takes that many hits will not have a good game so think about that for a minute before you go shipping all my team away for no good reason. Go Bucs!

  123. Buc4evr Says:

If Jameis had one once of common game sense, we wouldn’t bash him. However watching him is like the movie “Groundhog Day”. Different day, same mistakes. He has been unable to correct his mistake after 5 years so the bashing will only stop when he stops making mistakes. Something that is very unlikely.

  124. Pewter Says:

All you haters trying to make comparisons to teams with young QBs playing well don’t see that all those teams have good offensive lines?!? You need to break down the film, if you’ve ever sat in a room that has that done, before trying to ship off our QB who is trying to do anything he can to help this team win. Look up how terrible our offensive line was last game, I’d bet he had about 1.2 seconds average to make a decision. Someone noted above most intelligent football minds would credit him with 1-2 turnovers yesterday meanwhile Evans dropped or quit on two touchdowns. This team has serious flaws, and Jameis will win championships with a real franchise just as T-M*x has stated. This team deserves better fans and a real GM.

  125. Craig Says:

I think it would be an excellent idea to see if Ryan Griffin is the answer. If he can tide the team over for a while all well and good. Draft a later round QB and let him learn for a while.

If he can’t tide the team over, then the Bucs need other plans. Find a QB to play a few games and toss a first round QB into the pit.

Maybe they can find an older QB with one more season in him and draft fa QB in the later rounds and let him learn.

First thing is to see what Griffin can do in a real game. He is a star in preseason. He even had it together enough to win the game that he threw two picks in 17-15 over Dallas

  126. Buczilla Says:

It’s time for Jameis to follow in the footsteps of Vinny and Josh and walk the plank the hell out of here.

  127. BigHog Says:

Alvin /you dumb and blind., I don’t give a frequent flyer mile who you get to be QB if they have to play behind this O/line he is fu&ked, running for your life from kick off to hearing the fat lady sing a song it’ll make you happy! And you didn’t mention the fact that FAMOUS hit ME13 in stride and that was the end of the game! Dropped it! Now I’m dropping the mike!!
