RoJo Running Wild

October 20th, 2019

Feed him.

Damn, what a difference a year makes.

Last year, it seemed one could spell Ronald Jones’ name with four letters, B-U-S-T.

That has really flipped this year.

Through six games, RoJo, the Bucs’ second-year running back, has found himself among the most dangerous running backs in the NFL. How so? Just check out the number of 10-yard runs RoJo has had, by way of the research of Field Yates of BSPN.

To Joe, this makes the notion that Gale Sayers Peyton Barber should get more touches than Jones just stupid.

The Bucs are very close to letting this season get flushed down the toilet. The pass defense is so pathetic, the only way to keep teams from roasting the Bucs through the air is the tried and true method of ball control.

You do that by playing keep-away.

You do that by running.

You do that by giving your most dangerous running back the ball.

Or do the Bucs actually want to win? Sometimes, Joe wonders.

Yet he only got a hand full of touches by this great coaching staff. Barber still starts in his place, and Dare Owhatshisname got more looks then Rojo in the second half of the Pants game. The genius QB blowhard would rather have Mr. Magoo throw 50 times a game then pound the rock. We’re doomed.

  2. Youngbucs Says:

This is why I get mad they talk about getting
The best 11 on the field but it’s just talk it ticks my off

  3. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

Joe says “The Bucs are very close to letting this season get flushed down the toilet.”

What you mean is the Bucs are floating on the turdtanic ready to swirl down the toilet and leave a tenacious skid mark.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

Good thing this is a bye week, those 4 carries last week had to wear him out.

  5. Youngbucs Says:

Ba=dirk the proof is there look at his in gm decisions just bad

  6. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Don’t forget he had/ had a foot injury

  7. JP_09 Says:

18-23 touches a game, been saying it for a few weeks now. Not only do we need to see about our qb, we also need to know if Rojo can carry the load going forward.

  8. down in the dirt doug Says:

You are right Joe—something or several things about our Bucs is rotten to the core!!!!!Any high school footballer knows that you get more playing time if you improve.Rojo has flaws–but let him run baby!!!!WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROTTEN ROSES BA!!!!!

  9. JGhoti86 Says:

How anyone could say the word BUST as related to RoJo last year after ONLY 20 carries is obscure, ludicrous, premature, asinine, unintelligent and a stupid leap and rush to judgement. That’s not even ONE game’s worth of carries. Silliness. I don’t want to be too mean here, but sometimes I wonder about “Bucs fans” (and the like)…to put it as nicely as possible!

  10. NPRSageBoy Says:

Until RoJo learns how to pass block, he’s a liability that BA can’t tolerate.

Gee…BA and Dirk Koetter have something in common; neither trusted RoJo.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Ball control? Wow what a concept Joe. Bucs have won the TOP battle in 3 games (Panthers 1st game, Giants & Rams). We won 2 out of 3 of those, and SHOULD HAVE won the 3rd one. We lost all 3 games where we lost the TOP battle … largely because we ALSO lost the turnover battle handily in 2 out of 3 of those (49ers & Panthers 2nd game).

NFL football isn’t rocket science. Win the TOP battle and history says you’ll have a better chance of winning the game. Duh. Win the turnover battle and history also says that you’ll have a better chance of winning the game. Double duh.

And yet, possession is irrelevant if you don’t score points. And turning the ball over to your opponents is also irrelevant if THEY don’t score points off of the turnover. But the idea of possessing the ball for long periods of time, of keeping your defense off the field & rested up, and being able to ‘control the game’ is certainly appealing. As one article states very convincingly …

“The truth is time of possession is just a result of doing a lot of good things throughout the game (getting first downs, sustaining offense, and quick stops on defense). The actual possession of the ball is not important if you are not scoring any points.”

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

RoJo has improved for sure. If only that could be said for the blocking. Still waiting for the bust loose for a long run for a TD which is overdue.

  13. #1bucsfan Says:

Only idiots would label a player a bust after only 23 carriers for a season an wen he did get a chance last year he was consistently hit behind the line of scrimmage. Not every high draft picks steps in an sets the league on fire especially wen opportunities are scarce an wen the coach who is known for not using rookies. This organization an a lot of these so called fans are jokes. Team glazer learn to run a team

  14. lambchop Says:

Man, I hope RoJo works on his pass blocking and continues to develop. It would be huge cuz honestly, I’m pretty sure he was not the RB they were targeting in the draft.

  15. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

It’s almost like it takes more than one year to determine if a player is a bust or not…

  16. Bojim Says:

    Let him run!!

  17. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Defense Rules-

And turning the ball over to your opponents is also irrelevant if THEY don’t score points off of the turnover.

    I disagree-

Turnovers and sacks are negative plays that kill drives and have a big impact on whether a team wins or not. They are never irrelevant.

  18. Alanbucsfan Says:

Also- if you don’t score points on possession, field position is a big factor

  19. Ed Says:

Jones has been more physical when he gets beyond LOS than Barber. The Bucs have to run plays that allow Jones to cutback he has a nice move where he can side jump and then accelerate. He makes 8 yard runs look routine with a crease. I would shake up the offense with more short passes to him because in space he’s tough for one guy to bring down

  20. Pugs&Bucs Says:

    Whoo-freaking- pee.

By the way Dalvin Cook went for another buck-45 today.

But that’s cool. OJ Howard “fell” to us.

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

A revelation!!! NOT! You get mocked when you beat the drum for a running game to aid the DEFENSE. The only time-tested, sure-fire way to keep another team from scoring is to have the ball on OFFENSE. It is the best defense in the NFL bar NONE!
AND, as Defense Rules stated, it’s important to score on those clock-eating drives.
Translation: When our QB throws for 35+ attempts our record is absolutely abhorrent!!!
If you want the high-flying circus of “passing league” enthusiasts with THIS QB, you better expect turnovers.
35 and UNDER. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

  22. mickman Says:

if he could pass block he would be on the field more. he needs to be able to play the rest of the game

  23. BucEmUp Says:

Arians doesn’t want to coach. He wants to sit his semi-retired ass on his gold cart and let his over sized staff of un-qualified protege’s drag down the team while he gets a nice fat paycheck. This is coming from arguably one of his BIGGEST supporters on this site leading up to his hiring and this seasons.

Weak link leftwich is dragging this entire team down. Arians is probably a top 5 coach in this league, but thats only WHEN HE IS ACTUALLY COACHING!!!!!! Remember how fast paced and confident the offense looked in the preseason? Yeah, that because Bruce was calling the shots. Now, illiterate below average has been qb protege Leftwich has been handed the keys.

ENYOY YOUR SEMI RETIREMENT BRUCE!!!!!! THANKS ALOT FOR SCREWING ALL OF US BUCS FANS!!!! YOUR A REAL DOUCHE BAG IF YOU DONT MAN UP AND FIX THIS LIKE YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD!!!!!!!!!!! But it seems to me your going to go the easy route and just cash your paycheck and feed a bunch of b.s in your pressers and continue to let your crap ass OC keep the entire team anchored. What idiot gives the majority of the offensive snaps to the 3rd string rb?????? YOUR IDIOT BRUCE!!!! YOUR OC!!!!!!

  24. Buczilla Says:

We’ve already won too many games to get Tua, so maybe we are trying to suck for the duck?

  25. DT25 Says:

For everyone talking about his pass blocking…there are actually numbers on this and guess what? RoJo has been our best pass blocking AND receiving RB so far this year, too. He has a better block success rate and fewer drops than both of our other backs, yet Dare is the one used almost exclusively in passing situations. Truth is, none of our RBs are GREAT blockers…doesn’t mean RoJo should be completely distrusted and used sparingly. That really has been among the worst coaching decisions this staff has made so far. Wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually takes the lead back role because you can only ignore the positives for so long until you look completely incompetent as a coaching staff, but it’s frustrating that he’s been this good and still hasn’t been given the reigns. Especially when none of our RBs are so much better than him at anything that you could justify it.

  26. Dubcity6 Says:

Hes a below average RB. Bucs fans standards are just terribly low at RB. So people throw out random stats that give them some hope. Like the one above

  27. Oneilbucs Says:

We can’t give him the ball 20 or 25 times a game because our coaches is going to get asked if they trust Jamies and when they get asked that question then they have to prove that they do trust him . They have to show the national media and our trash fan base that they do trust him. So they will throw the ball 45 times just to say we do trust him even though they know that the running game helps us win games as well the pass !!!! Go Bucs….
