Predicting Jameis’ Future

October 16th, 2019

Intel from One Buc Palace.

After Sunday’s turd-dropping by America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, many Bucs fans have had it with his roller coaster and are all but begging the Bucs to cut bait with the franchise-record-holding signalcaller.

Jameis is in the final year of his contract and many hope it is Jameis’ final weeks with the Bucs.

But hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionistMike Florio-arguingparrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training social activist Peter King of NBC Sports isn’t buying that Jameis is toast. Yet.

After Sunday’s International Embarrassment, King is of the mind that Jameis played his way into a new two-year contract with the Bucs.

Yes, you read that correctly.

King, as he told the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on his weekly spot heard exclusively on SiriusXM, believes that based on info he obtained from inside the walls at One Buc Palace, Jameis was going to get a long-term contract with the Bucs. Those plans, King believes, are now likely up in smoke after Sunday’s game. But that doesn’t mean the Bucs will throw Jameis out the door.

Russo asked King about what Russo sees as the demise of Jameis and Marcus Mariota, the latter being benched by the Titans. King first addressed Mariota (who King believes is done in Tennessee) before turning his focus to Jameis.

“Now Jameis Winston is a different story,” King said. “I believe, based on my trip to see them in training camp this year, that Jason Licht the general manager and Bruce Arians the head coach were all but committed to bringing him back on a new contract after this year. And that’s Licht’s decision, not Arians’ decision, it’s Licht’s but Arians is definitely going to have some input into that.

“I think coming into this week, I think it was probably 70/30 that they were going to give him a new deal. But this week brought up all the old ghosts on Jameis Winston. He took too long to throw – you could read Arians’ lips on the sidelines, ‘Throw it away. Get rid of the ball.’ He took seven sacks. He turned it over six times.

“When those kind of things are happening, that is the classic bad Jameis Winston. So now I think, if I had to guess right now, I think that what they are going to try to do with Winston – if he is this way in the next three to four weeks, a couple of good games and then a disaster – I think they will try to bring him back on a very short deal. Maybe two years. But they will not, based on what I have seen so far – again, he can turn it around – but won’t give him any sort of [long-term pact]. They won’t give him any sort of market deal.”

And that two-year contract could be heavily loaded in favor of the team, meaning if Jameis hit rock bottom next year, the Bucs could escape.

Of course, there is always the possibility that Jameis’ camp says “Aw, hell no” and takes Jameis to free agency. Joe isn’t sure who would sign Jameis as a starter if the Bucs don’t.

The first two wild cards are Jerry Jones and Bill Belicheat (no, not to start over Tom Brady, but to potentially replace him someday). Texans and Cowboys fans don’t give a s(p)it about anything but football. Belicheat has already demonstrated he doesn’t give a damn about off-field baggage.

(Joe doesn’t see Jameis playing for Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville.)

Of course, the ultimate wild card lurks in the shadows of the bare mountains and the casinos and the restaurants and the glitz that is Sin City, Las Vegas.

That would be Chucky.

souns about right only 2-3 more years of bucs agony until they admit they’re mistakes a year or 2 to late. while the actual good players lose some of their primes looking at you evans, marpet, lavonte, vea shaq and nassib *if resigned. sorry guys that you got drafted to this loser franchise that has no clue wtf theyre doing or how to fix their suck. Tampa Bay MRSA-NEERS. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN GLOVES ALOT OF SHI** TO CLEAN UP.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

A 2 year contract that doesn’t break the bank isn’t a bad option. We can draft a 4th rounder to throw 5 picks in a game. Let him go test FA and see if he gets any offers.

  4. Smashsquatch Says:

Trade Winston for Mariota. It can’t get any worse for either team and is worth a shot for both teams. Otherwise see what you have in Griffin. Simple solution to eliminate Sameis Jameis from hurting the Bucs.

  5. Bruce Blahak Says:

Take him Chucky, please! How do you expect a demoralized fan base to show up next year if this overrated failure is still your #1 QB? Hello, St.Louis Bucs. It’s getting to be, for the sake of the franchise with this sh*t show….

  6. Troy Says:

How much further toward the “rock bottom” does JW have to tumble? I mean the Grand Canyon is only so deep. For cryin out loud. The fans deserve better.

no fans should give a crap about anything but football unless they are going to care about what every employee of every industry does on their off time…. holding athletes to role model status is beyond laughable. parents need to raise their own illegitimate children not expect everyone else too. if teachers did not spend all day being parents maybe the youngins would not be so ignorant

best thing for jameis is to escape the black hole that is Tampa bay buccaneers football. this franchise as about as much of a chance of appearing in a super bowl as John Lennon and Aretha Franklin making a come back for the halftime show

  9. lambchop Says:

Get Intston out of here. Peter King is an idiot. We are cash strapped, it would be irresponsible and proves the ineptness of Jason Licht to even wager a 70% signing of Intston before the season began. BA is a QB whisperer, but only to QBs who listen. Jameis is beyond guidance. He thinks he can make every throw and put this team on his back. He has yet to do it.

Brett Favre played that way and he was wildly better than Jameis. But, even Favre could have won more critical games if he didn’t play like God every dang time.

It’s a losers mentality to think Jameis is salvageable. If you want to waste away Mike Evans’s, Chris Godwin’s, and OJ’s careers….do the idiotic thing and keep Jameis around. All 3 of those guys will be in high demand and too rich for the Bucs to keep. You can almost see the morale dieing on the face of our offense when Jameis regresses back to his selfish ways on the field.

  10. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Bucs are going to do this. Glazers are so desperate to be the first to sign a Bucs QB to a second contract. They are actually dumb enough to do this.

  11. Robert Says:

he will be resigned, simply because they can’t stomach the fact they should have traded him last year. they’re hanging on hope. trying to land the plane as it runs out of gas…aint smart says mark wahlberg

  12. Robert Says:

they should sign him as a cheerleader. I could support that.

  13. Alanbucsfan Says:

I’d pay Bridgewater $20 mill before I’d pay Jameis $10 mill and I’d draft another qb
Bridgewater is a quality qb. Jameis has probably peaked.
5 years experience and you play like that? And after Bengals game last year?

  14. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Man this team is going to be awful for the next 5 years. Jason needs to be fired and we need to sell high end pieces as this team needs a full fledged rebuild. but Jason’s biggest concern is signing his own guys. we are never and I mean NEVER going to get anywhere with Winston no matter how good this team is. only way we have a chance is if the defense turns into the 85 bears with how often he turns the ball over.

  15. NPRSageBoy Says:

If I was the GM of this BS infested franchise, JayMiss would have to pay me to play here next season. After all, he’s already fleeced the Glazers for enough to stay in crab legs, bb guns and Uber rides for the rest of his life

Meanwhile they continue to waste the career’s of everyone around him waiting for this dunderhead to figure out how to play QB in the NFL.

Who actually believes that if we had a shutdown defense and top notch running game that he wouldnt still throw interceptions and hold the ball too long in the pocket? He had Dalvin Cook and a decent defense in college and he still played exactly as he plays now.
He may be coachable during the week, but once the opening kick goes up, all bets are off and anything you worked on during practice goes out the window.

He wont change, and everybody involved is going to have to ride this plane all the way down because this organization apparently doesn’t have the balls to jump out and pull the cord before it hits the ground.

……and franchise QB’s dont throw interceptions on the first play of the game. Winston has done it at least three times that I can remember.

  20. Buccernutter Says:

Wow the narrative was completely different last week when he was #2 in the league the last 4 weeks. It will be different again in 2 weeks.

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

For some reason QB discussions are always binary…either the guys is a franchise QB or he’s a bust. There is room in the middle, especially on good TEAMS.

A great QB is wonderful but it can be a luxury not a necessity. I’d love to have a great franchise QB…we don’t have that guy…JW is adequate perhaps but he’s not worth 25-30 million. He’ not worth what the franchise tag will cost. I do not believe he’ll sign for ten million prove it contract loaded up with reachable incentives.

So JW aside…do we really want to load ANY single position with 10-15% of the entire payroll? Just askin’? Who would qualify for more than 10%…Russell Wilson…Brady…Rodgers and a few others…Mahomes obviously…but there are competent QB’s either on rookie deals or just affordable out there.

  32. Gooberton Says:

Any contract offer would piss me off. I have supported and defended Winston until the London game results. I am done. He is spastic with a few mental issues. I have zero confidence with the bucs after they fall behind by 10 points in any game. Please don’t waste any more time. Do the right thing and move on.

  33. Buc4evr Says:

Jameis will never be a winner. The guy is Irredeemable and won’t learn. The constant roller coaster ride makes fans nauseous. He needs to be gone after the season. I wouldn’t even entertain prolonging the agony with a short term deal. I have been a proponent of Jameis, but after the last game even I have to concede that he just isn’t the guy that’s going to lead the Bucs to the promised land.

  34. Pete I Says:

Utter Folly and so very Buccaneer-

  35. tmaxcon Says:

    joe

just in Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) has now been linked to jameis interceptions… Rachel Maddow has the exclusive

  36. Defense Rules Says:

For once I agree with Peter King. A 2-3 year, short-term deal on terms very advantageous to the Bucs …. max $10-$15 mil range. If Jameis prefers to test the FA market & start over someplace else, fine. Regardless of what he decides, sign a quality veteran QB to compete for the starting role (and would STILL like to see what Ryan Griffin brings to the table as a potential starter). Come 2021 though, draft a QB high.

It’s fruitless to put a bunch of money into a starting QB next year UNTIL we fix our other problems. We NEED to rebuild this OLine; that’s at least 2 players (probably 3) when DEPTH is included. We NEED to get a top-dog RB to complement RoJo. We NEED to find a #3 receiver. On the defensive side, we NEED to find a pass rusher, a veteran corner & a veteran Safety.

We also NEED to re-sign several guys like Suh, Barrett & possibly JPP (as well as find a replacement for Beau Allen (or re-sign him). Get Godwin signed to a longer-term contract should be a high priority. We SHOULD have enough money/Cap space to do all that UNLESS JL goes playing Santa Claus again.

  37. Robert Says:

problem is crabman is too stoopud to even take a deal like that. he’ll want big money.

after that he’ll call the glazers r*cist…..bank on it.

  38. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs need to move on from Winston. He is a veteren QB now in the 7th week of his 5th season so it’s not at all likely that he is just going to start playing at an elite level or even be a winner in this league. I know that Jason Licht has staked his job and reputation with the Bucs on making Winston a franchise QB here and signing him to a long term big money deal, but at this point that would be absolutely ludicrous.
And to all of you folks who keep saying that Winston will go to another team and win championships, that is also extremely ludicrous. No team in the league would be chomping at the bit to sign him as they all know how he plays and know that he will end up being just a journeyman backup at best.

  39. Bucsace Says:

Oh yeah……Jameis would love this deal….Well, I guess that means that for the lower salary 2 year deal…..its ok if he has 4 or 5 horrendous games in a season. I’ve got to remember that we are in an alternate universe here in Tampa Bay

  40. JimmyJack Says:

I’m staying on the bandwagon and staying on the ship with Winston. Yes, I know it’s sinking but I’ll just hope against hope.

Maybe he won’t fumble any games away for us and the future will look bright again.

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Most teams that need a starting QB would prefer drafting one with a lower rookie contract than taking a chance on someone like Winston…..

If we do sign him the Bucs are holding all the cards…..Jameis will likely only get backup money in FA…..

It will depend on his play going forward….and I would predict more of the same.

Good Jameis, Good Jameis, Good Jameis, Bad Jameis

  42. JimmyJack Says:

Either way they are defientally doing the right thing not judging on six games. Gotta remember we all have had to struggle through Winston’s career for 5 years now. Bruce and his staff are not even halfway through year one. Gotta realize their mindset is much different then ours.

  43. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

If I was Jameis I would try to get to Dallas. With that o-line and Elliot running the ball he would be a pro bowler in no time. Not blindly defending Jameis, but he is surrounded by sub par talent. The pass rush last Sunday was constant and immediate. There was no semblance of a running game and our secondary is….well our secondary. That scrub QB of the Panthers who wasn’t even drafted was nice and comfortable in the pocket as our pass rush was non existent. While he didn’t look great, he looked competent. Any QB in this league will do well if they don’t have d linemen all up in their grill for an entire game. While none of the anti-Jameis crowd will ever admit but when Jameis is on he looks like an elite QB. You put him in Dallas and he will excel.

If the Bucs are moving on from Jameis they need to bring in a scrub for a couple of years while they build the trenches and fill other needs. No QB is going to succeed with the team as is. No need to bring in a rookie and have his confidence and spirit broken, if not his back, knees and shoulders.

  44. Chris Says:

I think it’s time to stop with the not funny at all intros to Peter King comments. I think a few years is enough. Kind of infantile!

  45. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol Chris, at least he puts it all in red so I know not to bother with reading it.

  46. Defense Rules Says:

TDTB … Never understood that argument. If you give ANY QB a very good defense, a strong running game, a quality OLine, several decent receivers and a decent S/Ts game, guess what … ANY QB would do OK. This is the NFL, not college. That’s why average QBs like the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson (10-6 last season) and Chicago’s Mitch Trubisky (12-4 last season) and yes, SF’s Jimmy Garappolo (5-0 this season) can succeed.

It takes a TEAM to win. But if you have a TEAM, it doesn’t take a Top-3 QB to run that TEAM. And the irony is that IF you pay your QB top money, there’s a very good chance you won’t be able to afford all the other pieces necessary to make a winning TEAM. This thingie called a salary Cap effectively prevents that. Now would someone PLEASE explain that to Jason Lichtweight.

  47. Tampabuscsbro Says:

man this fanbase is insane. were people saying this about freeman when he left? how he would go to a contender and turn into a world beater. Jameis Winston is Freeman with a slightly higher upside that is all. The Jameis defense force knows no bounds and will stop at nothing to make sure the guy that brought their school a title is playing for their NFL team.

  48. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Pull the band-aid off. Enough is enough.

  49. adam from ny Says:

Defense – None of the QBs you mentioned have won a Super Bowl. New England has a franchise QB and has won numerous championships. Yes, game managing QBs can have some success if they have good teams around them. However, the majority of them don’t win championships. In order for them to succeed they have to have a defense like the Bears, Ravens and Bucs had back in their respective glory years. If you have a true franchise QB to go along with a good team then you can be a Super Bowl contender year in and year out. A gifted QB with all the tools can be the difference between simply being good and being great. If Jameis was the QB for the Bucs back in the late 90s early 2000s the Bucs would have won multiple championships. Unfortunately they only had game managers and for one glorious year that defense carried the to the title.

HOWEVER, the Bucs may want to simply franchise JW in 2020 … that may tick JW off though and he may refuse to sign the tag which will force the Bucs to let him hit free agency.

If he hits free agency, a TON of teams will likely make him a mega-offer, which could include the: Patriots, Dolphins, Steelers, Bengals, Broncos, Raiders, Chargers, Titans, Cowboys, Redskins, Bears, Panthers, Saints and 49ers.

That’s FOURTEEN TEAMS … and all it will take is TWO to make the bidding get wild and for JW to end up with a mega contract.

JAMEIS WILL GET $$$$ PAID $$$$ …. either in Tampa or somewhere else.

  59. The Coroner Says:

    🧐 Hmmmm
Need a consistent running game to take pressure off the quarterback. Not here yet.

Need an offensive line that’s better on the right side including a new right tackle.

Obviously we need some defensive backs that can do the job.

Tom Brady is a franchise quarterback yes.But his defense is also one of the best in the league. And his offensive coordinator is better than ours.

And Winston needs to make better decisions and get rid of the ball quickly when he has to.

    Aint it easy 😂

  60. Doctor Stroud Says:

King indicated that it will be Licht’s decision. That means that if JW won’t listen and get rid of the dang ball (and not to the opposing team), Coach Arians will fire himself.

  61. Anonymous Says:

Three games were horrid (SF, NO, CAR). Two were okay as a game manager (CAR1 and NYG), and one was great (LAR). Your guy does need to be Superman–Arians is just saying that he doesn’t have to so Jameis doesn’t get amped up (or Arians is a fool). But he can’t produce when he needs to; key games he flubs. King is wrong. They were not 70/30 and won’t bring him back for two years versus longer if he stinks it up again. And they won’t franchise him so get that price right out of you head. Best for Jameis to head to FA on his own. You will hear by season’s end the ME13 wants a trade too. It’s coming.

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can you imagine Eli behind this line with these RBs? He couldn’t win with Barkley running for 200 yards a games what’s he going to do with the Bucs 2-headed monster gaining 43 ypg? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mariota could definitely carry this team and score 30+ ppg. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

No WAIT! Josh Rosen yea that’s the ticket!!! Oh man having a heart attack ova here. Why not resign Fitz so he can go 2-7 with 30 interceptions? 🤣🤣🤣

Wait wait stop I can’t please stop.

  66. Anonymous Says:

A-bomb, that question is irrelevent. It will be “not Winston” as that is known. He will come too expensive, will not bring back (in fact, may lose more) fans. They will draft a QB or get a game manager in FA. Winston is already a bottom tier starter. Why pay top dollar for him? Spend the money rebuilding elsewhere. There are plenty of QBs who can win as often as Winston. And Winston will not likely agree to take what he is really worth…about $12-15M a year. The Glazers could not say rebuild this year because they were stuck with Winston and cash strapped. Not so anymore.

  67. Anonymous Says:

Not speculation either. Some have recently noted a seemingly different ME13 attitude. It has actually been that way since SF game, and he will be increasingly difficult after the Bucs rack up another 3 losses. And Winston doesn’t get 10 games to prove his worth. Try 5. That is, when the Bucs are playing for nothing, so will be Winston. He needs a couple top notch games and two or three where he is still solid, just not great. History shows he cannot do that.

  68. mark2001 Says:

July Joe…hilarious…paid for what? A team wants a guy that can play consistently, because as you know, one playoff game like a couple games this year and an entire years work is down the drain, even if you are 16-0 going in. A great number of teams would like to upgrade their QB positions…but I doubt many think he is worth anything close to 20 mil….and no team that thinks they are a QB away from a playoff run. Jameis isn’t currently that kind of QB.

  69. mark2001 Says:

To make it clear July…he can’t be counted to show up and perform well on any given Sunday. It’s that simple.

Two year 12 mil a year no guaranteed money. Take it or leave it draft best QB available see whos the best.

  71. Defense Rules Says:

TDTB … ” If Jameis was the QB for the Bucs back in the late 90s early 2000s the Bucs would have won multiple championships.” Interesting speculation. Since he would’ve been 5 or 6 years old at the time I kinda doubt it, but interesting speculation nonetheless TDTB.

  72. Hodad Says:

Joe, sometimes I think your smoking dope, but if you think Belichick would want Winston, you’re doing acid, and tripping!! No one is worried about his off field baggage anymore, it’s his on field baggage no team wants any part of. Did you watch the game Sunday? You really think Belichick would want that? Got any more of that good pot, or acid left? I want some for the next game.

  73. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Defense, rather than joking what do you really think would have happened if a QB of his caliber and physical ability was taking snaps in the late 90s? Do you think they would have had better results ultimately. It is a difficult question because if you say yes your are admitting that part of the reason Jameis hasn’t succeeded the way we all hoped is the team around him. IMO for a QB to succeed you need a good OC, O-line, running game and a defense that can make stops. He has had none of that while here and yet holds every passing record in Tampa. I strongly believe that if he leaves and lands with the right team he will succeed. However, I won’t regret it really because this is a poorly run franchise with a GM that is horrible. I doubt he will play long enough to make it work in Tampa. This team probably needs to just burn it all down and start a total rebuild.

  74. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Resign Jay Miss for two years…….cleaning toilets at One Buc Place. He can have Licht My Balls wring out the mop.

  75. Ndog Says:

I’m telling you if he walks he’s going to NE and they will get him in a good situation. I’ve been saying it since last year. Tom Brady looks average at best this year and will not want to play once he doesn’t have it anymore. Time for Jameis to learn the system and then boom they are set AGAIN for the next 10 years. See Belicheck is smart is sells high and buys low while the rest of the league buys high and sells low. It’s really simple but people are too stupid to figure it out.

  77. Allbuccedup Says:

On second thought cut your loses 5 years and the best you can show for it is one 9-7 season. BA retire hire kris richards to run the team keep leftwich for the offense. Make this team legion of boom not the legion of doom.

  78. Jean Lafitte Says:

He really has become the proverbial “coach killa”

  79. July Joe Says:

JW is WAY BETTER and WAY MORE TALENTED than $134m man Jared Goff.

JAMEIS WILL GET $$$$ PAID $$$$ …. either in Tampa or somewhere else!!!

  80. simeon Says:

Apparently 5 years of observations isn’t enough to admit he stinks. If he doesn’t turn it around immediately and is the starter next year i’m pretty sure there will be even less people in the stands.

Honestly, who can you name that has had more second chances in life than JW? Guy fails constantly in and out of his profession and still gets to keep at it. I don’t want this guy throwing footballs for my team, around my daughters, near my retail store, in my taxi. I could keep going.

  81. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Simple solution:

Sign him to a team friendly contract for 2-3 years, with the bigger money front loaded.

If we end up drafting high, draft a QB to develop behind him. If he fails, we’re ready. If he succeeds, we have great trade bait. Much like the Pats did with Jimmy G years ago.

  82. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    simeon Says
“Apparently 5 years of observations isn’t enough to admit he stinks.”

He doesn’t stink. If he stunk, our offense would not keep improving. Yes, he had a complete breakdown this past week, but let’s be honest…getting sacked or almost sacked almost every play because an offensive line that was down two starters…make it difficult.

And for all of this talk about throwing the ball away, he really did not have time to.

  83. JamesisNOT Says:

Tmax must of got ahold of some of that good herb.

  84. Buccfan37 Says:

Games like the last one make it difficult.to support Winston as a game manager QB. Like seeing an eye test cross eyed. For whatever reason this is getting old. More good than bad would be a step up.

  85. 401Buc Says:

QB’s ranked by $ per QBR through Week 6 (got this from barstool):

    28. Buccaneers – $509,051/QBR Point

    Jameis Winston – Salary: $20,922,000.00 | QBR: 41.1

I really, REALLY hope Steven Cheah doesn’t see this. This stat may also look totally different by the end of the year anyway, considering Winston will 100% be benched AGAIN at this pace.

  86. SteveK Says:

From another post, but it applies all the same here.

    July Joe,

To quote the Sean William Scott from the movie Old School, “I like you man, bout you’re crazy. You’ve got a dart in your neck.”

No shot in hell Winston gets a mega offer. How can you possibly draw this conclusion with a sensible logic? Please elaborate, and thanks for the discussion! I have no belief in Jameis to get the job done on a consistent basis. I will be rooting for him and wearing his jersey on Sundays, but the bull crap play has to stop. Win or leave! Too many turnovers. Too, too many excuses and it’s painful.

You deserve a gold medal 🥇 for the mental gymnastics you provide to provide unwavering support for substandard play.

Why not pay a rookie peanuts for the same level of consistency/play, and most importantly results?

I’m sick and tired of the turnovers, holding onto the ball too long, and Jack ass decisions.

  87. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Brady has a 98 QB rating and 10 TDs to 3 INTs, 8 sacks, two fumbles and one lost. He also has lesser targets.

To say he’s been “average at best” than what does that make Winston:
85 qb rating, 12 TDs, 10INTs, and five fumbles with a couple lost.

He’s too reckless with the ball and he needs to get rid of it quicker. I’m rooting for Jameis, but I just don’t see his play ever being consistent enough to rely upon as a franchise QB.

You have to win at least 3 games in a row, possibly 4 to advance through the playoffs and win a super bowl. What makes you think we can win it all of Winston can’t play consistent football?

  88. Ndog Says:

SteveK watching the games help but I’ve told you that before and it’s clear you either don’t watch or don’t know how to. Enough said.

  89. BucEmUp Says:

Maybe if our qb wasnt forced to run plays that the opposing defense already knew he was running.Maybe of Jameis had plays called more that allowed short dumpoffs and screens as the primary target when these wrs continue running deep vetical routes on every…..single….play. I sincerely hope Jameis lands with a good coach, and not a coach that decides he wants to sit back and deligate but an actual coach who still wants to coach

  90. Defense Rules Says:

TDTB … Realistically there’s no way to know how he would’ve done. We had several OCs back then if you remember, and it’s hard to tell how Jameis would’ve performed in their various systems. I seriously doubt that Tony Dungy would’ve drafted Jameis if he’d had the opportunity to do so. That in itself kinda makes it a moot point.

Now, do I think that Jameis’ win-loss record would be better than it is IF he’d had a strong defense, excellent running game and strong OLine? Of course. What QB WOULDN’T benefit from a situation like that? But it should be obvious that what we ‘preferred’ back in those days was a ‘game manager’ type of QB. None were spectacular, but they were ‘adequate’. Only one was ‘adequate enough’ to get us to the Super Bowl and win however … Brad Johnson. He & Jameis are world’s apart. But Brad has the Super Bowl ring & Jameis has yet to make the playoffs.

  91. JameisAlmighty! Says:

All the Mariota lovers are sick to their stomach that Jameis was indeed the right pick. Mariota sucks

  92. Defense Rules Says:

BucEmUp … I agree with you totally. Bucs have thrown 20% deep passes this season. and only completed 33% of those. THAT’S ludicrous. His completion when throwing ‘short’ is right at 67% … TWICE as good as he is at throwing deep. What the heck is wrong with running the ball & completing short passes to METHODICALLY march your way down the field, score points, AND eat up the clock in the process. And oh ya, take far fewer sacks (because of getting rid of the ball quicker?) AND having far fewer turnovers (fewer fumbles as a result of sacks & what should be better accuracy short).

Having the #4 scoring offense is meaningless when you’re 2-4. Better mix of runs & short passing, fewer sacks, fewer turnovers, higher TOP, fewer points charged to our defense as a consequence, and MORE WINS … they ALL go together. Now will someone please tell that to our OC.

  93. Jeffbuc Says:

I just do t understand why every coach employs a Jameis throw deep offense. The patriots have been ungodly good for 20 years doing dunk and dunk to runningbacks and quick slants. Why do no teams including us immulate that. Every game I tell my game watching buddies why not do this. The quick slant to Godwin last game one time was 8 yards ball was out in one second. We have two big bodied receivers and one of the most athletic big tight ends to ever play in the nfl. You would thing quick slants would be a staple. And the other thing where are the running back screens if teams are blitzing us and keeping safeties Deep over top of mike evans why would t you have mike run a decoy fly pattern and throw a screen to that side where a safety and cornerback are 30 yards downfield. I just am sick of feeling like I would be a better offensive coordinator than what I watch every Sunday

  94. July Joe Says:

    Steve K,

    You’re clueless.

You think you’re going to take a rookie QB like Joe Burrows who plays on a LOADED SEC team, throw him behind Tampa’s line with their terrible defense and a coach who expects him to run a vertical offense and he’s going to put up anywhere near the production Jameis is? You’re crazy!

MANY posters on this forum, including you (?), wanted the Bucs to dump Jameis and draft Dwayne Haskins … and where is Haskins? THIRD ON THE TERRIBLE REDSKINS DEPTH CHART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is top 10 pick Josh Rosen? He’s a bust who was dumped by his first team and is a backup on the worst team in the entire NFL!

I just can’t even believe how dumb Bucs fans can be … it is literally mind-numbing.

  95. BucsBandit Says:

    ROFLMAO AOEIGHWEOUGHQEUOAHEFOAEHOUEAHUOWFHAOUHAAAA

Hahahahaha at any talk of Jameis going to New England. What a JOKE.

A close friend is the agent of multiple players in NE. You guys apparently don’t know the discipline and system that Belichick runs.

Jameis Winston is the LAST QB in the NFL that Bill would sign and let run his offense. His schemes run on QUICK READS and getting rid of the ball quickly, which is why Brady doesn’t get hit much. It’s a FAST processing offense.

Winston is the OPPOSITE of a fast-processing QB. He holds the ball and waits and waits for where to throw it.

Winston is NOT going to New England under any circumstances. BOOK IT.

  96. Negative Nancy Says:

Who has fun watching these teams Winston leads? How does anyone want 2 more years of THAT?

  97. DayOnePaul Says:

So John Gruden calls, and says “you know I really can’t stand this Derek Carr guy. What say you take him and his big fat contract off my hands, and give me that Jameis Winston kid?”

Who, here jumps on that deal?

  98. JameisNOT Says:

Hey Dummies. Gruden chose not to come to Tampa because JameisNOT is the QB.

  99. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

I’ve watched every game this year. Are you in attack mode because you are constantly called out for your misguided belief that Jameis is the answer?

I just want to discuss and you infer I don’t know, or don’t watch?

Why do 80% of JBF commenters call you out about your misguided opinions of Jameis? I hope you’re doing well and I Enjoy a debate. Please don’t say I don’t watch the games. I rock my Jameis jersey and watch every one.

If he keeps playing like a disaster, the I might have to break out the Sapp jersey on Sundays.

  100. SteveK Says:

No thanks on Haskins or others.

I just want consistency from my QB

July Joe- was your screen name on here once “NFL Nut”? Reason I ask is because of your writing style and passionate defense for Jameis. I have a lot of the same debates I have with you as I I did with them.

I am not clueless, I am not a sheep. I see an inconsistent QB. And it pisses me off to no end because Jameis IS talented. He just can’t hone in and improve upon the mistakes.

I believe we will see good James for a few games now and the. A complete blow up, probably the next divisional game.

I want the Bucs to win and I want James to leafs us to the promise land.

I do believe that a rookie QB, on the rookie contract $, gives us a better chance to win because we can spend the additional
    Cap space on other needs.

When you pay a QB $25-30 million, and they’re inconsistent as hell, it puts more pressure on everyone else to be better to succeed.

Jameis just ain’t up to snuff.

  101. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Let’s join the game thread in two weeks and we can discuss the game as I watch it. July Joe can join too!

Let’s have a spirited debate about our QB!

And, we can all watch it together, as we have all year.

Please don’t be mad, and attack others for different opinions. I understand it’s tougher as hell to defend the play of ur QB Andrew I commend you for
    It.

And, if you come back with more personal attacks, defensive language, of insults, just know that it shows weakness and insecurity in your projected point. It makes your argument look sadder and weaker.

I don’t want to kick a dog while it’s down, but I will objectively post my opinion as a lifelong fan.

  102. July Joe Says:

    Steve K,

I never participate in the game threads as I like to watch the game rather than type and because I think it’s stupid to praise a QB for one play and the rip him for another, that’s too “prisoner of the moment” for me and just strikes me as dumb.

One thing I will agree with you on. Having a rookie QB making $20m less a year would definitely give the team a better chance to win as they could load the roster with 2-3 excellent players … HOWEVER … that is only the case if that rookie can replace Jameis’ production, be top 5 in passing yards, #1 in scoring offense in the NFC, elite in the advanced metrics, etc … and since that is probably 99.999999%n UNLIKELY, what would LIKELY happen is the team drafts a guy who is far worse than JW and takes a massive step backwards. Just imagine Rosen or Haskins on this team … the team would be 0-6 and have gotten BLOWN OUT in six straight games.

Add to the fact this team has star receivers who want to put up star numbers and drafting a rookie QB just seems entirely INSANE to me as I wouldn’t doubt if by week 4 next year Evans is demanding a trade and Godwin is telling the front office there’s no way he’ll sign an extension, is some rookie QB like Fromm or Burrow is QB1.

I don’t mean to be rude, but I seriously think YOU and MOST of the people on this forum have the “JAMEIS WINSTON DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” thing and it causes ya’ll to be … dumb.

  103. July Joe Says:

BTW, if TREVOR LAWRENCE was in this draft and the Bucs had the #1 pick, I would be 100% IN FAVOR of slapping the franchise tag on Jameis and TRADING him for the best deal possible, drafting Lawrence and handing the team over to Trevor.

But there is NO WAY I would do that for Tua, Herbert, Fromm, Burrow, Eason or Hurts … I’m not high on any of the 2020 QBs and none of them are even close to as talented as Jameis. Trevor Lawrence is a different animal.

  104. July Joe Says:

HOWEVER, just so you all know … Trevor is a lot like Jameis as well and if he was here in Tampa, he’d have some amazing plays, put up some great stats, and turn the ball over a lot, and the team would still lose more than it wins with its defense … but he’s got insane upside and would be 1/4th the cost of JW so it would sense at least.

  105. ufour20 Says:

Winston nut huggers still claiming the garbage we see on the field is not real. You all may need glasses like your messiah, cuz dude is trash.

  106. DalvinCookRules Says:

Yeah, lets not jump on the Trevor Lawrence bandwagon just yet. He is a big super strong armed QB with good athleticism– which all means JACK in the NFL.

Today’s NFL is much more a mental game than ever before. Clemson like FSU of 2013 has bigger stronger faster WRs than any DBs covering them. That will not be the case when TL goes to the NFL. If it were that easy to project, then Winston would be the most dominant QB in the NFL today

  107. July Joe Says:

^ You are proving my point. Winston and Lawrence are both Hall of Fame level “talents” but both could crash and burn in the long-run if they don’t have a good team around them … it’s all about TEAM in the NFL, yet so many fans don’t get it.

Lawrence is a LOCK to go #1 in the 2021 Draft … he’d go #1 this year if he could enter and would have went #1 in last year’s 2019 Draft as well, as he is an elite “talent”, period.

If he has a work-ethic like JW and flames out, it will not be because Lawrence wasn’t an elite talent, but because his team failed him.

Not every QB gets to go to a team who made the playoffs with garbage QBs like the Texans (Deshaun Watson) or to a coach that made game manager Alex Smith an MVP candidate in the Chiefs (Patrick Mahomes) … some QBs go to GARBAGE ORGANIZATIONS with GARBAGE TEAMS (Jameis Winston, Matt Stafford, etc).

  108. July Joe Says:

^ You’re right, the Bucs should dump Jameis, pass on Trevor Lawrence and look for a 6th round guy with marginal athleticism and a decent but not special arm, who will turn into Tom Brady … that should work out perfectly, HAHAHAHAHAHA
