O.J. Howard And The Patriots

October 29th, 2019

“Focus” on Bucs.

So yeah, Joe pointed out that Jenna Laine of ESPN has fresh news last night about a crack in the stance of the Bucs when it comes to potentially trading stud tight end O.J. Howard.

It appears Howard could be had by another NFL team if they cough up the price set by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Last week when it was learned that Licht slammed the desk phone down on his former boss, Patriots strongman Bill Belicheat, who tried to pry Howard loose. Joe wondered what Howard thought about the greatest coach to ever walk a football sideline actually wanting him.

The news didn’t really seem to surprise Howard.

“I am an Alabama guy and he and [Alabama] Coach Nick Saban are good friends,” Howard said. “So he kind of already knew a lot about us [entering the draft]. From that standpoint, it helps a little bit.

“It is one of those things where [the Patrots] like to use tight ends in a certain way and I am one of those guys in that skillset. That’s why kind of attracted” Belicheat.

Clearly Howard wasn’t comfortable with this trade talk. He likes it here in Tampa  and really wants to contribute to a turnaround for this franchise that seems rudderless.

Initially, Howard thought it was “pretty cool” to know he is coveted by the NFL’s greatest coach. Howard, however, wants to get on the field for the Bucs and contribute.

“At the end of the day, I’m here right now and that is my only focus.”

Can we trade Jason Licht for a box of cracker jacks, and a Bud lite?

  2. doctor_berto Says:

Lets be honest, the patriots are more than likely going to have the 31st or 32nd pick in the 2020 draft. That is pretty much a second rounder and we all know Lichts track record with second rounders…

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’d love to trade Jason Licht for Rich McKay…………..

  4. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

OJ is hoping and praying he gets traded. It’s obvious. Who would you want throwing to you? Brady or America’s Grop…..errr

  5. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

What OJ is saying that the unqualified organic Byron Leftover suks

Why is he protected from the Tampa bay media ?

Are they scared of the red faced Grandpa Smurf?

It is not going to happen. Don’t believe everything you read.

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Howard would be a Pro Bowler in less than a year with the Pats

Hilarious how inept this staff is at using talent

  8. 813bucboi Says:

    he’ll be traded for a 5th rounder….

and with brate, auclair and hudson on the roster, licht will draft a TE in the 2nd round….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

I am afraid Jason Lite is a giddy compulsive GM and cannot resist making a trade for the excitement and feeling of doing something….

  10. Rojas Says:

He’s being wasted. BA doesn’t use his TE.. only for blocking. It’s a shame because Howard could be special he’s a mismatch.

  11. Alanbucsfan Says:

I would trade OJ and Jameis to Carolina for Cam

  12. tmaxcon Says:

Any player that gets a chance to escape the NFL’s black hole should jump at the chance… bucs will never turn it around they will always be the dorky kid that is picked last at recess in NFL circles in

  13. Cgmaster27 Says:

@alanbucsfan and you would be a moron to make that trade.

  14. SCBucsFan Says:

A 1 from the Pats is like a 2. Pass.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

LOL…Licht won’t trade Howard because they need him to block. It’s as simple as that.

  16. HernandoBuc Says:

The Bucs will trade him away and waste the talent that was in their grasp just like so many other players that left the organization and became perennial pro bowlers. I don’t care what your offensive scheme is, you use the talents of the players on your roster. It completely shows the ineptitude of this organization year in and out. I swear there is a curse on the Bucs. The Saints must’ve put some voodoo black magic crap on them somehow. It’s a Bucs Life. I’m so over this crap. I feel like I care more about the Bucs then the Bucs.

  17. lowercaseg Says:

    Do it for a 1st and 3rd

Plus, Belicheat was figuring a way to get a great player for zilch. He looks at the Bucs as suckers. Screw him and that whole franchise!

  19. Buc50 Says:

1st and 3rd with the Patriots is really a 2nd and 4th. We should stop doing trades with them anyway. We always hand them final pieces to their puzzle because our QB sucks. Keep your players and fix the QB.

  20. Youngbucs Says:

A trade for anything other than a solid corner or tackle is a complete waste of time imo. The draft gives us the shaft all the time we need seasoned competent players at these positions badly. The Gaytriots have players to trade they can keep they’re picks and groom a player for us to trade for next year ha ha what a joke this “organization” is if you want to call it that.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

i bet bill offered a 2nd round pick for OJ and licht said no….now, bill will low ball licht and only offer a 4th….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  22. unbelievable Says:

    Translation:

I’m a freak of nature but this dumba$$ amateur coaching staff doesn’t know how to use me.

  23. NPRSageBoy Says:

    Trade OJ already. Brate, too.

    Take JayMiss, please!

    Peace out

  24. Brandon Says:

So BA doesn’t like using TEs…neither did Mike Martz so he shipped Greg Olson out of Chicago for a song. If either of them were true geniuses they would see that both Olson and Howard would still be better 3rd WRs than more than 20 teams in the league. Why not let Howard play TE in pro sets and move him out to WR in 3 and 4 WR sets? Despite Perriman and Miller’s speed, Howard is still a better downfield threat than both of them… and he’s a better short option as well.

  25. RTG Bucs Says:

Trading Howard would be just as dumb as drafting Hargreaves so it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

  26. Cometowin2 Says:

Love Cameron Brate but would rather trade him and his large salary. Criminal that this coaching staff thinks Scotty Miller is a better receiving option than Howard or Brate.

Another lost season. Have lost all hope for current year. Play Ryan Griffin. Let’s see what we got with him. Offer Winston backup money at best. Let’s talk draft!!!!

  27. tim1966 Says:

Can we send the Bucs to Montreal and keep the Rays?

  28. Dewey Selmon Says:

If BA is such a great coach why isn’t he devising schemes and plays to get OJ more involved. This is Lovie and stubbornness all over again. Square pegs and round holes. Every other team in this league would love to have him and we are trying to deal him?

  29. TonyC Says:

If they want to “win now’ it has to be for a competent cb otherwise it makes zero sense.

  30. Buccfan37 Says:

Keep OJ! If the Bucs do gift him away and he lights it up then there is another nail in the Licht coffin.

  31. Jean Lafitte Says:

“It is one of those things where [the Patrots] like to use tight ends in a certain way and I am one of those guys in that skillset. That’s why kind of attracted” Belicheat.

did OJ say Belicheat? You evidently injected your personal vindictive nickname into OJ’s quote.

wouldn’t that be considered libel? ..careful Joe

  32. Allbuccedup Says:

Just in Brady told Belecheat if he gets Howard he will play in 2020 and maybe 2021. Soon as Belecheat gets out of the bathroom he is going to call Licht and offer 2 third round picks he has 3.

  33. Defense Rules Says:

Bucfan37 … Licht’s ‘coffin’ doesn’t need any more nails; his incompetence has been proven over & over & over. If JL gifts OJ to the Patriots the whole of Tampa Bay should rise up and DEMAND that he be fired.

Actually now that I think about it, maybe we should do that anyways … in front of Buccaneer Palace with 65,890 PO’d Bucs’ fans (yup, the capacity of RayJay). Protesting the horrific use, or rather misuse, of the talent that we do have on this team.

  34. Tom G Says:

Detroit wants to trade Slay. We want to trade OJ. Do the deal straight up. Seems pretty simple and both teams benefit.

  35. jjbucfan Says:

Trade our 2 for Slay and trade OJ for Trent Williams and move Smith to RT where he belonged for the last 4 years

  36. DalvinCookRules Says:

Bellicheat must know just how stupid Licht is, so I would not be surprised to see us lose Howard. Personally, I wouldnt trade him for anything less than Brady + their 1st 2nd and 3rd picks… And if Mr Cheat doesnt like it then keep it moving.

  37. Denjoe Says:

Hodad thats asking too much for Licht, we’ll just take the bud light!

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

OJ I am sure would be elated to go to a team like the Patriots and play for a winning franchise. Face it guys, Tampa Bay is basically the abyss when it comes to the NFL. This year they are bottom of the barrel with teams like the Jets, Cardinals and Redskins. Think about those teams! If you were an NFL player would you want to go there or the Patriots. The Bucs have been worse than all of them for a long time which puts them in rarified territory. He was actually a little more candid than I thought he would be. However, I am sure he wants Bellicheck to know he is EXTREMELY interested in playing for them. I actually NE is where Jameis will end up and we will watch in awe as he miraculously becomes a winner there while we will suffer through McCown 2.0 or Trubisky 2.0.

  39. July Joe Says:

A #1 and #3 for OJ and a #4 gets it done … but Belichick likely won’t offer more than a #2 and #5, so NO DEAL.

  40. Doctor Stroud Says:

Licht might be able to engineer a trade, and this will put him in good graces with the Patriots. Belicheat will hire him as a scout or any title different than the one that he has now so that he continues to get paid Team Glazer loot, per the language of his contract. It’s the perfect scheme. #PaidFloridaVacation

  41. Bucsfanman Says:

I would be shocked if we get a 3rd for him, let alone a 1st or 2nd. We’re acting like he’s Gronk. He is not making plays neither as a receiver nor as a blocker. And I don’t buy this bull that he’s not part of the offense. It’s not the OCs fault that the QB doesn’t throw OJ the ball.

  42. Iamabuc Says:

Idk…all I’m saying…Imho..don’t look now; but there’s still 9 games to be played in the season…(little ol’ idiotic optimist me thinking all the time about the Bucs somehow someway finally make it, you know , to become a respected force in these days NFL)…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣…hey just Go Bucs, fk-it!!

  43. ITS ABOUT TIME !! Says:

    Son of Kobe Faker Says:

    WELL SAID

  44. Nick2 Says:

What he is saying is Leftwich doesnt know how to use tight ends except to block. Biggest downfall of this offense. I thought they use their players to their best ability???? We have decent tight ends but NONE of them have had great success and yet the “receivers” let Jameis down. Figure out some plays that have the tight ends as a safety valve and this offense becomes better instantly.
