Bucs Plan To Activate JPP

October 26th, 2019

Return expected Sunday.

[Update 12:40 p.m.]

The Bucs plan to activate defensive end/outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul.

Joe reached out to someone with knowledge of the situation and apparently, per Bucco Bruce Arians’ post-practice words yesterday, team doctors are OK with JPP’s workouts the past two weeks and have given him the green light.

If JPP is the same player before his broken neck, which happened in a one-car accident in South Florida this spring, just days after the 2019 draft, this could be a huge help to the defense.

Shaq Barrett, who exploded for nine sacks in the first four games, has been shut down by offenses the past two games and as a result, the Bucs were left with a toothless pass rush.

Now teams have to worry about both JPP and Barrett. This should open things up for a decent pass rush. And Joe has always stated a pass rush can help hide a bad corner but there isn’t a defensive coordinator alive who can hide a bad corner with no pass rush.

The Bucs, based on the first six games, need to hide someone in the secondary. JPP can sure help.

[Update 12:40 p.m.]The Bucs make it official. JPP has been activated.

JPP will make an immediate impact and will play well. I’m sure the usual genius commenters will be trolling his return on here soon.

now when the secondary performs better, you’ll know why…..

pass rush and secondary go hand in hand….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. 813bucboi Says:

imo, the defense will come to play….

will GOOD JW show up or will BAD JW hit the field?….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

Still smells like despsration hoping a guy coming back from some broken vertebrae just months ago will come in and save the team. I don’t expect much I’d he does play.. prob not rest of the year. If we were winning we prob sont even consider bringing him back yet

  6. Anonymous Says:

Who knows which QB shows up but it’s good to hear JPP is back. This defense needs all the help they can get

  7. BA FAN Says:

PFF can and will save the Bucs this Sunday. Put Auclair on the side with their best pass rusher to double team him with the OT on that side just like the Panthers did on Barret, and protect Jameis, and bring in Ogunbowale on third down to block if a blitz and be a first down target if they don’t. Use Vernon to cover their slot receiver who played the slot for us last year, and we can win this game with plenty of run plays for Jones to delay their pass rush and catch some screen passes. It is doable this week coming off a bye week!

  8. Smashsquatch Says:

JPP has heart. You can’t teach it and it’s infectious. His presence will be felt from the first snap. I would never bet against him based on his ability to overcome obstacles in the past. Bucs D just got better, the question is how much?

  9. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“So does the BA/BL twins have a plan to get the ball out quick with short passing routes?

    No?

So what does a 2 fingered broken neck player have to do with winning?”

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

This will be interesting, JPP first game in a Bowles 3-4 defense. Some believe the Giants let him walk because they switched to a 3-4 before us. He is not in football shape yet, I expect to see him on 2nd and 3rd passing downs. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Vea or Suh have a 2 sack game. Titans can’t double everyone.

  11. DooshLaRue Says:

    Great news!
I think the D will be on fire tomorrow.

Predicting JW throws/fumbles twice in first quarter and BA benches his sorry azz, RG4 comes in and rights the ship by simply playing smart and making the right throws……. and no turnovers.
We win the game and put together a winning streak and management realizes Jaboo is finished here, but being the Bucs we’ll have missed our opportunity that trade him to some sucker team for a pick or two.

    Go Bucs!

    Goodbye JW!!

  12. Allbuccedup Says:

Hope he doesn’t get hurt coming back too soon.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Even if JPP only gets very limited snaps, it’ll still be good to have him back on the team.

Noticed on the Friday injury report that Dotson had Limited Participation, and was listed as Questionable. HOPEFULLY he makes it back in there tomorrow.

Also noticed that Adoree Jackson is listed as Out. He’s been getting a big share of the CB snaps, probably at Nickel since Ryan & Butler both have 99% CB snaps. Still, if Jackson is in fact out, that might be something to take advantage of since their other CBs have relatively few snaps.

I’m gonna go out on a limb with DooshLaRue … I also think our D will be on fire tomorrow. Still hoping that TB sits VHIII & MJ Stewart and lets the youngsters get the majority of the snaps. Denver’s defense sacked Mariota 3 times & Tannehill 4 times enroute to a 16-0 win. Denver also shut down the Titans running game (21 rushes for 39 yds & 0 TDs). Tannehill did very good passing against them (13-for-16 for 81%) after he came in late in the 3rd qtr, but they were all short passes except for 3 deep (2 incomplete & the other went for 25 yds). He was 24-for-30 (80%) in the next game (Titans 23-20 win against the Chargers) but he only threw 2 deep passes (both complete … one for 16 yds; 1 for 25 yds). In short, he picked both teams apart with short passes, and that was against 2 pretty good defenses.

Our offense will be facing a tough Tennessee defense, but hey, time to put on the big-boy pants. No turnovers, control the clock with a decent running game & LOTS of short passes, and score some points … 25 would be nice. That should give us at least a chance to win.

I also think our Defense will show up tomorrow…..we are very healthy…..White will play well……look for Nassib to excel…..Go Bucs!!!

  20. Adrnagy Says:

Too much negativity …. if it’s like you guys are the doctors.

Good for him jpp and the team. Jpp is a athlete he wants to plays. Bucs are paying him. So if he clears then make it happen.

I’m more worry about the oline.

  21. NPRSageBoy Says:

    Can JPP play QB?

  22. BucEmUp Says:

Toothless pass rush my ass!!!!! Just like aeasons past, our dbs playing soft limit the time to get to the qb and collapse the pocket!!!

JPP will be a help yes, but defenses who expected a bowles defense in the beginning of the season have learned that the Mike Smith coaching has still NOT WORN OFF!!!!

JAMM THE WRS AT THE LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. BigPoppaBuc Says:

This seems a little rushed. Seems like they’re trying to get him on the field to show he can still play before the trade deadline.

And people get mad when I say we have crappy fans. This dude is a crappy fan. And for the record there is no Bad Jameis or good Jameis there is simply a protected Jameis or a not protected Jameis as that is the only difference.
