Brate’s Last Game?

October 28th, 2019

Tradebait?

Joe hates to write the following, but it is a real possibility.

Could we have watched Cam Brate play his final game as a Bucs tight end?

The NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. tomorrow. He is being terribly underutilized with the Bucs and Albert Breer of theMMQB.com reports this morning there is a hot market for tight ends as trade winds swirl.

Joe already wrote how Brate was one of the last players to leave the locker room. He left slowly on the long walk to the team bus, head hung low the entire trek.

Could it be that Brate also sensed it may be the final time he wore a Bucs uniform; final time leaving a Bucs locker room?

Not only is Brate a strong tight end, he’s an excellent teammate. He’s good friends with a lot of players and the Chicago-area native is putting roots in Tampa, ingrained in the community and purchased a house.

You can tell Brate likes it here, both living and working.

But Brate also probably doesn’t like his lack of usage. Under the previous regime, he rose to one of the top tight end targets in the NFL and became a touchdown machine. Now? Brate is a bit player.

Joe isn’t saying Brate will be traded. But if the Bucs want to shed a salary, Joe can easily see teams in lining up in hot pursuit of the Harvard product.

And that would be a damn shame for the Bucs if he is shipped out.

    It’s business, not personal.

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Brate deserves better than this dumpster fire of this rotten stinkin team!

  3. MTM Says:

It would make Glazer sense to trade away good players in order to keep the downward spiral going. And don’t give me that BS that they would get a good player in return non-sense. The garbage GM is god awful with the majority of his trades. I mean fleeces…

  4. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Unless the Bucs go on a winning streak, I plan on selling my ticket for the last 3 home games.

  5. Rayjay1122 Says:

Trade Winston to Red Lobster for a pound of crab legs.

  6. Dom>Licht Says:

Trade Evans only guy of value and since he is disgusted as the fans and has quit on Jaymiss per his coach might as well get something for him.

  7. Gino Says:

Any player on that team should have slowly strolled out of the locker room eyes affixed on his Buster Browns.

    Don’t overthink this Joe!

  8. Pewter power Says:

    TheBucsAnthem

Pretty dumb comment since he is a contributor to the dumpster fire. People are killing the coaching staff as if the team wasnt 5-11 the last two years.

  9. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

We are getting mixed messages from JBF. One Joe has several times yelled that it would be “irresponsible” if we lost and didn’t start trading guys away. Now it seems the other Joe (guessing here) thinks it would be a “shame” that we trade away a player who is not even being used. Brate seems like a nice guy, but we need to rebuild this team from the trenches first. Having a good 2nd string TE is not going to do much for us. Get a draft pick. Let’s go. But we obviously need a different GM to make those picks.

  10. Joe Says:

Any player on that team should have slowly strolled out of the locker room eyes affixed on his Buster Browns.

Guess you didn’t hear JPP? Seems someone or some players are more concerned with intimate conquests than winning.

  11. LordCornelius Says:

We’re about to be in fire sale mode soon.

I vote for the JBF poll managed team. If you are listening GLazers – please fire Jason Licht and let the fans make the picks via an internet poll. Might as well empower us if we have to keep watching this every year.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Trade or Cut Vh3 while your at it

  13. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Cardinals traded for Drake. They must not be sellers yet?

  14. Jean Lafitte Says:

Brate has value, he’s worth more now than what we acquired him for. I almost guarantee Belicheck would like to have him.

  15. tmaxcon Says:

Get over your love of mediocrity joe you cried about hump too… they’ve lost with brate…losing is the glazer goal they can find another mediocre bum or feel good story to lose with. he’s nothing special raise your standards…. he is one hit away from his next career with those fragile hips…

  16. Etzel Says:

Overrated and overpaid. Won’t get much for him with that contract he’s carrying.

  17. adam from ny Says:

every quality team heavily uses tight ends now in this catch passing league…tight ends are no longer offspring of lumbering lineman with a bit more athleticism…they are viewed as larger more lumbering wide outs…

but noooo…bruce and byron do not get this fact!

  18. Etzel Says:

Kenyan Drake for 5th rounder…… Well.. guess we’ll be seeing more snaps out of Dare….

  19. Sharthappens Says:

Stock up for the draft. Get rid of all of them.

  20. Etzel Says:

This team refuses to win-now and it also refuses to rebuild. We fail to make any big trades or large free-agent acquisitions.. but we also refuse to sell off any older players for draft picks. We have accepted mediocrity for years, and the results speak for themselves.

  21. adam from ny Says:

oj and brate together should have on average:

    10 catches per game for 120-140 yards…

    evans and godwin should have:

    12 catches per game for 125-200 yards…

    especially with no #3 – #6 receivers

  22. Jeff Says:

Must be traded. He won’t be. Way overpriced at $7MM per year. And he’s a shell of his former self. If the Bucs can move him they should trade for anything.

  23. Sharthappens Says:

Great headline by Deadspin: “The Refs screwed the Bucs over by making them rely of Jameis Winston”.

  24. Jean Lafitte Says:

So Joe, who was sent packing in the locker room white girl comment?

  25. adam from ny Says:

brate is built to be a patriot…

i believe they don’t even want oj howard…

i think they are smoke screening the bucs, and will circle back and accept brate as what seems to be their 2nd choice…

however, he’s who they really want as their first choice…

they are duping licht…and will party when they hang the phone up…

  26. OBP Says:

Might as well, clears more cap space for us to go after decent FAs for next year.

  27. NPRSageBoy Says:

    Trade him and OJ both

  28. adam from ny Says:

george kittle is a beast…watch his youtube highlights sometime

  29. Buczilla Says:

I’d trade him for a second round pick as long as the Glazers know that Licht won’t be here next year. If Licht is calling the shots/doing the scouting, it’s pointless to stockpile picks.

  30. Donnie Says:

Why is not everything in the table? I mean; we do not look good. No way we got.500.

QB play is dull, O-Line can’t hold up a curtain and no one wants to play for this team. It’s clear as day.
I don’t see us winning more than 2 more games this year. Licht personnel skills would get him fired in my Madden franchise, if he’s there next year it’s going to be hard to watch this team..

Oh and why is there no ‘like’ buttons for comments? Lots of good statements on here I agree with.

  31. TampaTown Says:

Jason Licht picked up two extra picks last year. Doesn’t matter, he’ll blow them all.

  32. zzbuc Says:

If we trade Brate, the only concern would be, what do you get, and that is a big if…..having two very good TE´s and not using them is like having an ashtray on a harley…….
There is only one thing that is pretty clear on One Buc….SOMETHING´S GOTTA CHANGE!!!!!!! GM? QB? Coaches?, maybe all, maybe some….But this canot continue like this……

  33. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

No decent team would trade Brate or Howard. The question is whether the same jokers running things now will be back again next year.

More of the same? Trade ’em both as a favor to THEM.

  34. Brandon Says:

Trade Winston’s arse and finish the season out with Griffin. It really can’t get any worse if you think about it.

  35. zzbuc Says:

Joe, who was the guy who made the stupid innacurate comment about the white girl that pissed JPP off? That guy should pack his stuff…..

  36. Joe Says:

Joe, who was the guy who made the stupid innacurate comment about the white girl that pissed JPP off?

No clue. Wish Joe knew. Was busy interviewing Lavonte David.

Joe has a hunch but it is nothing more than a guess.

  37. Frank Pillow Says:

Brate never imagined the Faustian implications of signing that contract extension, the poor soul.

  38. Marine Buc Says:

Trade Winston for the #1 overall pick in next years draft.

  39. adam from ny Says:

other teams OC’s must laugh about how we have this amazing tight end group that doesn’t get used at all…even our #3 and #4 seem to be decent, in auclair and hudson…

    it’d freakin’ wild…

    — do our tight ends even lift bro—

  40. orlbucfan Says:

What a load of horse poop. As dumb/egotistical as BA is, anything is possible. What’s the latest on Griffin starting?

  41. adam from ny Says:

if you used them enough they could even cause evans and godwin to get open more…

kinda like humphries underneath and djax over the top did for evans in the midrange passing game…

i’m not saying they will stretch the field like djax, but they can create a bit more downfield for receivers by incorporating a heavier underneath game into the offense, like humphries did…

nevermind…i give up on this team…

    at least until sunday…haha

  42. adam from ny Says:

    i’m so done

  43. Allbuccedup Says:

What a waste of 7 mil overrated and overpaid Bucs will be lucky to get a 7th rounder for him.

  44. TBUC North Carolina Says:

    Marine Buc…, What U Smokin??

  45. Beligerentbuc Says:

If we win in Seattle would that calm people down?

Then off to AZ where Todd and BA will take down their old stomping ground.

The AINT’s are who I am circling…beat them and we are 5-5 @ .500 with 6 to play.

Just beat the opponent in front of the mirror and we are the talk to the town, in a good way.

    GO BUCS!

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would trade OJ before Brate. Brate isn’t going anywhere.

  47. Mark Says:

Does any Buc player with real talent WANT to be on this team? Why would they not want to be traded? Odds are in their favor that they will go to a better situation.

LC, in all seriousness….I like that idea!!

  49. T REX Says:

Arians said this was a playoff roster. He lies. He stinks as a coach too.

  50. Buccfan37 Says:

What the Bucs have and are willing to trade isn’t worth much. The buzzards aren’t even interested in picking the bones.

  51. Pugs&Bucs Says:

The Bucs completed screwed Brate over by drafting that dumpster fire Howard. Brate was a monster who had excellent chemistry with Jameis and Licht passes on a running back which we DESPERATELY NEEDED for a TE who is essentially a liability and can’t get on the field.

  52. 401Buc Says:

Listening to Boston Sports Talk Radio right now and they seem to think Howard is available now with a 1st Rd pick. Hope it’s not true but that would definitely open up a lot of snaps for Brate.

  53. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Player for player…no picks…a starting RT

  54. lambchop Says:

I would trade Brate over OJ. OJ is fast, young, gets YAC, and a better blocker than Brate. If it wasn’t for our lack of talent/cap on this team and if we actually had coaches who knew what a TE was, I’d keep them both. Unfortunate for both of these guys, they have 2 bafoons who can’t scheme a huge target open. I mean a struggling or anxious QB’s best friends are a RB and a TE.

But, apart from vanilla play calling, they’re keeping the TEs close to the line to help out on blocking cuz we have HORRIBLE RBs who can’t block for sheet.

Dare is crap. He’s another practice warrior who looked promising until he faces live game situations.

  55. Jmarkbuc Says:

    “Beligerent”

First, that’s not how you spell belligerent. Second AZ is technically a home game, although there may not be any Buc fans attending. Third if you think we’re gonna beat Seattle in Seattle..I want what you’re smoking.

  56. Pugs&Bucs Says:

lambchop, OJ is NEVER on the field… and when he is he’s butt cancer.

The drafting of OJ Howard set this franchise back 4 years. Change my mind.

  58. Belligerentbuc Says:

    @ Jmarkbuc

    1. Thanks Brah on the spelling
    2. AZ is gonna lose at RayJay
    3. Bucs will defeat the Hawks in Seattle….No Doubt!
    4. Heck yeah you can have what I am smokin…it’s da bomb
    5. Most importantly…GO BUCS!!!…I truly believe we can beat any team out there, Any Given Sunday!

  59. Smashsquatch Says:

Not trading Brate is foolish. He’s overpaid on a team with greater needs than TE and there’s a market for his services; furthermore Tanner Hudson is Cam Brate minus the $40 mil. It’s a no brainer, slam dunk personnel move. It doesn’t get any easier than that. It’s as easy as trading away DJack was last year, oh crap that’s right, our dumb*** GM missed that no brainer move too!

  60. Jmon300@gmail.com Says:

Like i said we ain’t doing crap for trades. We are so close this team has all the pieces just need to be consistent

  61. EK Says:

Cam Brate or a quality corner?

  62. donuts Says:

Who wants Brate at $7M per year? Nobody. Howard is the one on the block. He will be traded 3PM Tuesday. The trade has been in the works for over a week (Im sure his agent told him to sit Sunday). Good luck with the Pats…enjoy the winning.

  63. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Was anyone else watching? Brate got hurt. Looked like his surgically prepared hip. He ain’t going nowhere

  64. BigMacAttack Says:

Brate forgot how to catch. He isn’t helping the team. Let him go.

  65. TDTB Says:

Trade both Brate and Howard. Trade one of them the Pats for high round pick and JC Jackson. Trade 2nd rounder (which will be high) and a Reserve DB if necessary to Redskins for Williams. Trade pick received for Brate to Jax for Fournette. Go Bucs

  66. Mark Alsott Says:

If he goes, hopefully it’s to a team that’s in contention. Brate is great person and top quality teammate, he deserves the best chance of success. Hate to say it, but I hope Belichek and the Pat’s scoop him up. Good chance he gets a ring there.
