Alex Cappa Broke Arm In Second Quarter; Arians Says New Right Side Of The Offensive Line Is Coming Sunday

October 7th, 2019

The injuries have arrived.

And the Earl Watford era is here.

Bucco Bruce Arians praised starting right guard Alex Cappa for gutting through most of yesterday’s game against the Saints with a broken arm, the head coach announced today

Arians added that the injury occurred in the second quarter against the Saints, and he went on to say Cappa likely would miss a couple of weeks and there will be a new right side of the offensive line Sunday against Carolina. Demar Dotson has a hamstring injury and left Sunday’s game early for tackle Josh Wells, the ex-Jaguars lineman aquired a few weeks ago.

Versatile veteran backup Earl Watford is expected to replace Cappa, per Arians.

Ouch.

Bring on Gerald McCoy!

JFC, this season is quickly taking a nose dive.

Props to Cappa for playing through with a broken arm though!

  4. Nick2 Says:

On one play Wells was a statue watching the d lineman waltz by him. I wondered why someone so poor at protecting was even on the field. With Dotson hamstring now we know.

  5. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Anything else??? How bout they lose our equipment on the fight to London!!! WTF?!!!!!!

  6. Figures Says:

Oh boy. This outta be fun to watch Sunday lol.

Poor Winston. Sheesh. This stupid franchise (Licht). 5 year extension for someone who’s not done a good job putting a decent team on the field.

explains alot of the heat that the offense was under on several do-or-die drives late in the game. the character of the team is being tested and it’s up to them to step up. the bucs need to find a way to return to RJS with a 4-4 record, the teams we are playing are persevering through key injuries themselves

  11. tnew Says:

So playing with a broken arm and he still wasn’t near the weak link of this group Heal fast young man..

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Seems like several of us were calling the lack of OLine depth as a major weak link way back at the start if training camp. Hmmm, obviously we were wrong now that Watford & Wells have taken over the duties. Oh wait, we have even less depth now. Whodathunkit?

Guess it goes to prove though that you really do get what you pay for. Donovan, Marpet & Jensen are highly paid and they’re still holding up. Hmmm again, maybe there are some incentive clauses in their contracts.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

hurt or not, rankins and m.brown wrecked the inside while davenport and jordan crashed the ends…..

    entire oline got worked…..

damn I am surprised the PC police and bubble wrap hand sanitizer generation are not losing their minds and organizing protests against cappa fore being a man. i am sure they will be protesting the organization and suggesting boycotts and fines for cappa being a man and not promptly laying down and playing the victim card.

  22. unbelievable Says:

813 you’re getting as pathetic as the Winston trolls.

Give it up already, VH3 is a CB#3 at best.

  23. Cgmaster27 Says:

@813 give it up dude ,your boy Hargreaves sucks and wont be on this roster next year. Thats why you dont draft a slow small nickel corner in the first round.

Cappa’s agent better be researching MRSA insurance for his client….. glazers minor league franchise and facilities have ended more than one career…

  26. DalvinCookRules Says:

For those complaining about lack of toughness and coaching on this team, i hope this story makes you consider that it just lack of talent. As tough as cappa obviously is, if he hadnt bought into this coaching staff he probably would not have stayed out there. I have been somewhat wrong about BA, he is a very good coach even in his twilight years. Under previous coaching staffs, we get blown out by 4TDs….. The Saints were able to identify & exploit the weaknesses BA had been able to mask for the first 5 weeks of the season.

  27. Bucsfanman Says:

813- You’re better than that dude! There are many aspects that lead to this loss. VHIII happens to stand out and it is absolutely indisputable.

The o-line is always an area of concern in terms of depth for this very reason. Hopefully Watford and Wells are up to the task. Pray that neither of them get hurt too!

  28. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsfanman

maybe we should pray they all get hurt. forfeiture is more honorable than their on field play most weeks.

  29. DooshLaRue Says:

    Joe,

Maybe that’s what nasty looks like when describing Cappa?
You were a bit perplexed by that description of him during the off-season.

    Mystery solved.

  39. July Joe Says:

I heard there is a guy named TRENT WILLIAMS that is demanding a trade and sitting out till he gets one … JPP, Brate and a 2nd for Trent?

  40. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

vh3 has been terrible since UF when he got destroyed by amari cooper and treadwell, blake simms was the bama qb so it wasnt the great teddy bridgewater lighting up hargreaves. I Think david carr set a raider record picking on vh3 a few years ago. I love the gators but laremy tunsil was the pick not hargreaves

  41. BrianBucs Says:

Kudos to Cappa for trying to set an example for the rest of this team when in today’s NFL players don’t want to play if they have a hangnail. Good, tough young man

  42. JimmyJack Says:

    D-Rome…….Signing Watford is addressing depth.

And Bruce has coached this guy before so the expectation is that he steps right in and prooves to be solid.

You might have a point with tackle depth. They have rolled through a lot of players their so theirs no telling…..Right now we don’t if our tackle depth is any good or not. We shall see

  43. Pewter power Says:

You could literally have a top tier o line if those cowards would trade for trent Williams. You could definitely shore up the secondary with Ramsey but these guys sit on draft picks like rookies are taking them to the playoffs so stupid, as if the rookie class has them playing championship football right now. For some reason they cant are vets have them competing so dumb what we have to deal with. Coward general manager and a coach who is afraid to rock the boat

  44. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- Look at it this way, this will be a preview of a Dotson-less era. See, silver lining!
Just for statement sake, it would border on criminal negligence if this team does not address RT next year.

813- The entire secondary was horrific yesterday but every time there was a long play to Thomas, VHIII was in tow. I would suggest that they put someone else on him but……who?!
We had no pass-rush and the secondary got exposed…badly!

Good thing the game is at 9am…
By noon, we will be out of our misery.

  48. TampaTown Says:

Pretty cool Cappa. That’s some Jack Youngblood level toughness right thar! Yes trolls I know JB had a broken leg. There’s obviously guys playing more hurt than we know maybe they believe in this thing. Wouldn’t that be a nice change of pace.

  49. SCBucsFan Says:

Defense Rules – 2 starters get hurt, backups step in and you are complaining because we have less depth now. What am I missing? Starters leave and your depth decreases for every team in the NFL.

  50. doctor_berto Says:

people are actually arguing that Hargreaves is decent? LOL. Dude would get shredded in the XFL

  51. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard is very happy that the Saints had their refs on the field and that they were able to help shift the momentum of the game so their team, the Saints, could win!!

Offense did well, Defense did really well, but it was the Saints ref squad that made the difference!

Watched Cappa play 4 years at Humboldt. Sad he broke his arm, but not surprised he kept playing. That is the kind of guy he is.

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If he got injured, who stepped in to play for him? If it was Earl, we’re in trouble.

  56. Allbuccedup Says:

Alex Cappa surprised me hes a tough guy, hopefully he will recover fast.

  57. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Tape that damn arm up, suit him up and put him out there…..

  58. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

    BA Redzone:

What are we supposed to do with our pricey LT if we sign Williams. I guarantee you T Williams will not play RT.

  59. Bucsfan951 Says:

At least it’s the right side and Winston can see the hits coming.

  60. lambchop Says:

    @Bucfan951,

Yes, it’s comforting knowing Winston will see the right side collapse and still hold on to the ball. Smh, the kid doesn’t know when to be a hero and when to play the next down.

  61. BA Redzone Says:

    Response to “The Fighting Schiano”:

Who the EFF knows…. the right answer???

Donovan is not killer LT….maybe we shift him to RT. All I know from the Saints game, is that our O-Line needs adjustment. Big Time! Trent W would be upgrade.

Just wishing, (Schiano), for some kind of relief for a real Bucs O-line, to to protect our QB!

    Trade? My Vote? YES!

JW3 is actually super-productive, when he has a clean pocket, with time to identify best receiver option. JW3 was under extreme DURESS most of Saints game, w/no time to find a receiver, and our receivers were blanketed by Saints CB’s and LB’s….Bad combo = loss!

RAMS Game – Clean pocket by O-Line! Saints D-Line> Rams D-Line.

JW3 made QUICK reads in clean pocket and successful throws vs Rams.

Dak, Brady, Wentz —–all have “Stupid amount of time” to survey field
after snap… in “obvious passing downs. Watch the film. Most of time…..
    3-4 seconds.

    in contrast, JW3 might have 2 seconds….with our O-Line.

Jerrah Jones, to his credit, focused on drafting O-Line talent in first rounds for years, and took some heat for his draft picks.

Dak P. is solid/talented QB —-but put Dak behind Tampa Bucs O-Line, and let’s see Dak QB rating…results/wins. ??? I challenge, that everyone would see a different Dak…..

JW3 reality… vs. Saints —fighting for his life to be in upright position in obvious passing downs. JW3 took a beating….No time….

And Bucs D, continues to make “Back-Up QB’s” seem like super-stars. Constant in our history.

Why??? do we always run Payton Barber for 2-yards on first down? Resulting in need for an obvious 8+ yd passing play? Good Lord —Some innovation, please….Byron/BA….

Byron L has to be more creative. I will take 25% of his salary, to call the plays he is sending in. Mercy…use our speed/talent! Mike E, Godwin, OJ., Brate…..

I still believe Bucs can make playoff run. I believe in Bucco Bruce… feel free to quote me later in year…if we fail. i think BA will figure it out, in time to make playoffs.

  62. Clean House Says:

The Saints our muscled us and whipped our ass. Single handedly decimated half of our offenseive line in one game. They whipped us and are literally beating our division,

Let’s see what happens- JW May have to go back to gunslinging…

  63. Bradinator Says:

Cappa is crazy tough! He was playing pretty well too. Get well soon! The more scary part of this is that Wells didn’t even touch his guy on a sack in the 4th. Since Winston can’t seem to get the ball out of his hands, that’s a bad combo. Three passes in, I leaned over to my wife and told her “The Kid doesn’t have it today”. Up a couple, down a couple. Hopefully this is an “up” week and he can actually find another receiver besides Godwin.
