Bucs Coordinators Rumored For Redskins Gig

October 7th, 2019

Name floated for job.

So we already have the first NFL coaching casualty of the season. And it is Brother of Chucky.

Jay Gruden was launched by Danny Snyder and Bruce Almighty this morning and before Brother of Chucky’s body were even cold, both Bucs coordinators were linked to the opening.

The Todd Bowles rumor was floated as inside intel from Ed Werder of BSPN.

This Bowles rumor was openly mocked by Darryl Slater of NJ.com, the site of record for the great State of New Jersey.

Bowles — who played for Washington in the 1980s and 1990s — would be a terrible hire. And there’s no way Tomlin should get within 1,000 feet of Snyder, the NFL’s clown prince of dysfunction.

Let’s start with Bowles, who is now the Buccaneers’ defensive coordinator. He failed as the Jets’ head coach from 2015-18, going 24-40, including 14-34 in his final three seasons.

You can’t blame all of the Jets’ failings on now-former general manager Mike Maccagnan’s awful big-money signings and draft picks (and he had plenty of both). Bowles very clearly did not have what it takes to be a successful head coach, in terms of how he handled critical in-game situations and how he dealt with problems in his locker room.

Earlier this morning, closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager of NFL Network, while co-hosting “Good Morning Football,” floated Leftwich’s name as a possible replacement for Brother of Chucky in our nation’s capital.

Well, after yesterday’s game, Joe is back on the wagon that Leftwich has much to prove before he is a legit head coaching candidate.

Let’s put it this way: Don’t you think a valid question that needs answering if you were, say, Snyder interviewing Leftwich, is why a runt of a wide receiver who creates no mismatches (Scotty Miller) had more targets than an all-world-talented tight end of a first-round pick (O.J. Howard) in a game to take control of the NFC South?

People used to scoff at former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter for not utilizing his tight ends. But compared to what has happened to two of the better tight ends in the game, Cam Brate and Howard, in the Leftwich Offense, it’s downright criminal how those two guys have vanished.

If Leftwich can’t find a way to use Howard and Brate, how can he be considered head coaching material?

And forget Snyder for a second, shouldn’t Team Glazer be asking questions why local authorities have issued Amber Alerts in the disappearances of Brate and Howard?

Daniel Snyder is too stupid to hire any of these fellas

……….he’ll probably go the college route

  2. tmaxcon Says:

all the coaches will be gone by mid season next year… tampa is just a stop on the Pad the Retirement Tour featuring BA and Buddies… Not to confuse with the same tour by Bad Character Lovie Smith and the Family Plan that swept through Tampa in prior years.

  3. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Please, Washington! Take our OC! We’ll pay you!

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Glazers year in and year out make Danny Boy look like George Halas the difference is Tampa is a small market with an irrelevant fan-base that goes unnoticed and redskins have a large educated fanbase with a huge media presence. bucs simply don’t matter so the glazers complete apathy and incompetence goes relatively under the radar. couple that with the fact glazers have trained low standard bucfan to accept failure and losing with pride

  5. D-Rome Says:

I know that there are only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL but that franchise is a disaster. Every hot shot coordinator should stay away and let Washington hire the retreads. They have a passionate fan base up there but Dan Snyder has killed any good will with the fan base and local area. Every time I feel like I’ve been kicked in the nuts by the Bucs franchise I remind myself that it could be worse. The Washington Redskins are worse in every way apart from tradition and history.

  6. crazyBucs_CL Says:

OC , DC , or any coordinator….. they can have them….. no regret for this LovieS staff like…..pfff…

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

D-Rome- I have to agree. My wife is from DC area so there’s always a little place in her heart. That franchise is nothing like it once was, that’s the sad part. They have tradition.
These rumors are hilarious, though for Washington you never know! Leftwich has a LOT to prove and Bowles is still trying to regain his respect as well. I don’t see it happening.

  8. gp Says:

I hear Mike Smith is available

  9. JimmyJack Says:

D-Rome that is funny. I needed that after the way our team played yesterday. Skins are 0-5 too. Ouch

Was also cool to read the article talking about a dysfunctional franchise that’s not a Tampa Bay team.

When the going gets tough you can always bask in the misery of others. I bet you could go to a Falcons website right now and leave feeling much better then yourself as a Buc fan. They are 1-4 and are got destroyed yesterday…….Them fans gotta be freaking out today.

  10. crazyBucs_CL Says:

“They have a passionate fan base up there ……(Washington)”
yeah…. we have lost that too. When I first was looking for season tickets .. 1999, the wait list was 104000 ….. I got it after 3 years….. I cancelled 2 years ago…. there are plenty now…
there is no stadium in NFL were the traveling team has more fans then home team… right? well, there were more Giants fans two weeks ago in RJ….. so let not talk for good and bad organizations …… is not going to end up good for Bucs.

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  11. Lamarcus Says:

Good. Leftwich too. Send both Vh3 and Leftwich to Redskins like today

  12. 813bucboi Says:

BL or EB would both be great hires imo…..they need someone to help DH….all the young QB’s have young offensive HC’s…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  13. Negative Nancy Says:

    Lovie!

  14. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Seriously OJ needs the ball more!!!

  15. D-Rome Says:

there is no stadium in NFL were the traveling team has more fans then home team… right? well, there were more Giants fans two weeks ago in RJ

crazyBucs_CL, I was at FedEx field for Week 2 against the Cowboys. That was a home game for the Cowboys! The entire lower bowl was a sea of blue and silver. No joke. Did you watch the Cowboys game yesterday? That was a home game for the Packers. Raymond James is not the only stadium that deals with visiting fans outnumbering the home fans. Even though the Bucs are bad there’s no denying the Glazers try by improving the fan experience and they have given much to the community. I think the fan experience at Raymond James is superior to staying at home and watching on TV. Not every NFL team can say the same. If I was in DC and a Redskins fan I’d never pay to go to a game because the fan experience is terrible. The money is better spent tailgating with friends or going to a bar.

  16. unbelievable Says:

Team Glazer would have to actually care in order to issue an amber alert for Howard and Brate…. so don’t count on any accountability happening.

As for Leftwich, I’ve like a lot of what I’ve seen but good lord you have the best tight end duo in the league. Use them!!!!

I’d be super skeptical to hire someone who couldn’t get Howard more than 1 pass a game….

  17. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Take our OC and GM and we’ll package Winston in the deal !!

  18. Colorado Says:

The Redskins organization deserves no success and I hope they endure a Bucs-like decade long streak of losing seasons. Terrible dysfunctional organization that’s so bad at handling players that some will actively refuse to play for them rather than get paid!

I will never forgive them for ruining RGIII’s career, rushing him back out when he was not fully healed.

  19. Figures Says:

    They can have Leftwich.

No excuse to not use Brate and Howard.

  20. gp Says:

I was at the LA game and there was a large number of Bucs jerseys in the stands (about half of them were #3 Winston jerseys…morgus)
Being a “tourist” town we naturally have a larger number of visiting fans
Remember, the taxes they pay while visiting are the reason you and I don’t pay a state tax
And props to those who stick with their team even after moving away
That’s what being a fan is about!

  21. NPRSageBoy Says:

If Snyder wants either Bowles or Leftwich, let one or both go for any secondary help the Redskins have and let BA return to coaching. I know it’s early in the season, but his stand up routine has already grown stale. John McKay he ain’t when it comes to quips.

  22. crazyBucs_CL Says:

“And props to those who stick with their team even after moving away
    That’s what being a fan is about!”……..
yeah, like Rays for example….. which are about to move away, cause the fan base here is Yankee and Red Sox……!!!!!
same for football….. don’t think there are Bucs bar in NYC, or Boston, or for that matter in Buffalo….. like all these team has their bars in Tampa….
it has become pathetic to listen to local radio shows as well…. most of their discussions are for teams, or players that we, Bucs fans, don’t care…..
It is our organization that, did stop our fan base to grow…. not buy not spending money, they do spend money, but by lack of football knowledge.
This organization need a president … to take football decisions….

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  23. pick6 Says:

yes, after Bowles was left to take the blame for a crap organization in NY, i’m sure he’s eager to captain the Titanic in DC. Bruce Allen is a terrible GM with unquestioned authority, and the often-meddling owner is one of the few who has been less successful than the Johnsons in NY over the last 20 years.

  24. pick6 Says:

@crazybucs, the reason is simple. many many many people leave the northeast or midwest for cities like Tampa and never go back. an ever-smaller proportion of people live\grow up here and say to themselves “i need to pack my bags and move to buffalo, pittsburgh, or cincinnati ASAP”.

the traffic from dying rust belt or northeastern cities to the Sun Belt is a one way street for the most part. we do not export bucs fans the way that those cities export theirs. the only way the bucs can\will win fans outside of central florida is is with the kind of franchise + individual success that once got Sapp, Alstott, and Lynch jerseys shipped to many corners of the country and globe.

  25. Tye Says:

Steelers and Chiefs coaches I get… both strong, recently winning contenders…
Both Bucs coaches have proven nothing.. ! failed already as HC and the other hasn’t yet had much IF ANY success at coordinator…
Losing teams remain losers hiring HC from losing teams… SMH!

  26. Buccfan37 Says:

Putting Buc coaches names in the mix reeks of desperation on the Redskins part.

  27. Jean Lafitte Says:

Schiano would be a good hire

  28. Tbbucs3 Says:

    TAKE HIM

  29. D1 Says:

When will Raheem Morris get another interview, not job, just interview.

  30. Jim Says:

    Called “schadenfreude”…

  31. BringBucsBack Says:

“…Clown prince”. That moniker could aptly apply to 1 or 2 individuals within our organization.

Yes Joe, I was yelling to the TV; “why are we forcing the ball to a 5th string receiver?”, all while ME & the TEs’ hands got cold. I did however, see OJ poorly blocking Jordon one on one (I don’t fault him for that.) That was another cause for yelling at my TV.

Who ever the ‘Skins hire will only survive through the end of the season when Snyder consummates his efforts to coax Harbaugh away from UM.

  32. BucEmUp Says:

OHHH NO!!!! Please washington don’t take Leftwich from us!!!! Our season will be over!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. WyomingDude Says:

    Nope to any of these.

Florio threw out Urban Meyer this morning, which as Mike always does, thought through it brilliantly from the ex coach talking head now for Fox, who recruited Dwayne Haskins, knows how to set his career on the right path, plus the name that still carries enough credibility from his college championships, old enough to know what a quality NFL staff should look like, and largely would have enough clout to have Bruce Allen stay out of his affairs.

Florio…wise as h3ll…makes a ton of sense again. Urban Meyer.

  34. rrsrq Says:

Who do Bucs fans want. We are 5 games in, put up 55 on the Rams, probably has one of the worst schedules in the history of the NFL bass on travel, nobody is running on this team, DBs are young, no money when these coaches took over. Yeah BL is still a novice, Bowles needs a chance to mold these DBs and he will (once the softness is rooted out). Guess we should’ve got rid of Dungy after his first five games too.

  35. adam from ny Says:

    this is just crazy…

this is like the realest fake news ever…

maybe they think he can save haskins from himself

    #HaskinsBustkinsNotHitSkins

  36. July Joe Says:

I don’t think Leftwich is ready to be an HC and I don’t see Byron or Bowles leaving Arians after just one year.

Haskins is also apparently a dumpster fire at present and reports are he may not be ready to start for TWO YEARS as he can’t understand NFL defenses at all … and some IDIOT Bucs fans wanted to dump JW to draft Haskins, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ……. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Ed Says:

Highly skeptical rumors, Washington is a big market team, why would there egomanic owner want a “no name” head coach. Are Redskins fans really going to get excited about Byron Leftwich or Todd Bowles. Please stop letting agents feed these rumors so their clients can be lifted up by the news. For either Bowles or Leftwich to get in the interview room for a Redskin hire, they would have to be part of a team that not only improves because of their coaching but posts a winning record. Other than the Rams game, the Bucs offensive yardage is way down and they continue to struggle on 3rd down. The only improvement by the offense has been they’ve gotten better in the Red Zone. Defensively Bowles has made the rushing defense better but the passing defense is still the worst in the league. After 5 games only an idiot would look at Bowles and Leftwich as moving the arrow up. 11 more games to see what they can do.

  38. Survivor camp Says:

Alert!! Redskins just need to pull a Andrew Luck for the season.

  39. Survivor camp Says:

Alert!! Bucs need to be patient and keep these core of players develope them to dominate. Pay close attention to every game played were always in it..
TV watching analyst and Experts back off and let the Coaches and players grow together.

    My Coaching fundamental short list:
“Please forward to Bucs Coaches” lol

    Players play Coaches Coach

Front end works with the Back end

Middle side line to side line

    QB field General that execute

RB/WR/TE show up and show out

OL Dominate and do your job

  40. gambelero Says:

A lot of Bucs fans hoping beyond hope they take Leftwich or Bowles.

I wish someone would take our Owners.

“Redskins, Bucs and (insert anyone except the Browns or Bengals) Trade Owners. Glazer brothers go to Washington, Snyder goes to insert anyone, insert anyone goes to Tampa.

  41. T REX Says:

    Take our 30+ defensive coordinator…lol.

    FUnny.

  42. RustyRhinos Says:

Leftwich as a head coach candidate? I hope he at least wins more than 10 games as a OC before becoming a head coach option. Maybe be in a tight division race and win it. What ever sticks to the wall and gets people talking.
