A Rookie Buccaneer Makes A Public Promise

October 7th, 2019

This isn’t quite Joe Namath calling a Super Bowl victory for his heavily-underdog Jets 50 years ago.

And it’s not Greg Schiano publicly expecting double-digit sacks for Da’Quan Bowers.

But is a public prediction from a Bucs rookie who clearly feels the pain of the fan base, the years of baggage that’s about to add another carry-on. Cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting put his foot down this morning on Twitter.

Good for Bunting. Joe loves when players interact with fans.

Joe believes the more players understand how much they mean to fans the better they will be.

Yes, the Bucs will be better. Joe will guarantee it. Just don’t ask Joe to wager on the year.

Problem is we’ve been hearing this same old quote for far too many years now.

  2. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

“Joe will guaranteed it?” Stop the pain meds!! (just joking….hope you’re feeling better)

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Vh3 would have tweeted but he still in the trail position ….. Running after wideouts that are not there.

  4. Hodad Says:

After that missed tackle at the goal line where he looked totally lame, he should just shut up. Hey that ball fell right into your hands, and you held on, bravo. The rest of the game you, and VH bust looked like dogs chasing trucks on the freeway.

  5. ClodHopper Says:

Everyone knows what it means to cross your fingers during a promise

    vh3bust the ultimate chaser!!!!!!

dont worry young mr two last names glazers will teach you losing is FUN!!!!!! Dance Dance Dance!!!!!!

  7. JimbobBucsFan Says:

This is not the same old Bucs of last year. We have a new regime and some new young players to bring up to speed.

New Orleans remains the power in the NFC South until we knock them off the hill.

On to the the London “home game” against Carolina.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

    its ok SMB…..

we all know all 31 points were scored on VHG and you nor any other DB gave up a catch or TD…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  9. JP_09 Says:

    GET PATRICK PETERSON

  10. Syl Says:

You have to get VH in the slot. He is not big enough for these bigger WR’s. I would have let SMB play Thomas and have someone hang over the top of him. The blitz was not working, and I would have given it up.

  11. tmaxcon Says:

    813 Hawaiian 2.0

your boy has been the worst player on the field for both teams two weeks in a row… it’s ok I have never made a mistake but most people do and I assume they find a way to live with it… too much video to rub your nose in pal let the little fella go.

  12. Bucamania Says:

Well at least there’s hope for SMB. I’m done hoping VH3 can be a quality starter.

  13. Cgmaster27 Says:

813 tske your gaytor jersey off and realize Hargreaves is a liability mo mayter where he lines up. hes slow and small, two things you can’t fix. And youre too slow to admitt it, so i guess you two have something in common.

  14. Dewey Selmon Says:

He gets his first pick(that literally fell into his hands) and now his head is swelled. lol It’s a Bucs life.

  15. tnew Says:

VHIII is a great example of a player being forced into the wrong role due to draft position. He’s a top level slot corner and among the league’s worst on the outside. Numbers and film don’t lie. This is why drafting Stewart drove me crazy. Stewart is a poor man’s VHIII. I wanted Isaiah Oliver which in all fairness is not looking like a great pick either. I like SMB’s attitude here.. Time to back it up

  16. tmaxcon Says:

vh3bust is a garbage player that was drafted as a local feel good story not based on talent. you can’t coach or fix short, slow and stupid pal…. bad pick he should be at 7 eleven not one buc circus tent.

    2 weeks in a row?….lol….

what about the first 2 weeks of the season?…..but im sure you forgot all about that huh….right…..

VHG had a bad game but not as bad as folks are making it seem…..7points were scored on him not all 31….michael thomas is a top 5 WR…..something i thought mike evans was…..

this is typical bucs over reaction…..

week 1 folks praised him for his pick6 and wanted JW to be replaced by ryan griffin….

week2 folks praised him for showing toughness and making the game winning tackle….

week3 d.jone craved up the entire secondary and we couldnt get any pass rush outside of shaq…..but if the kicker makes his kicks none of that wouldve mattered…..

week4 bucs and rams secondary got torched but we came out with a W…..

week5 the pass rush again doesnt show up and folks want to blame all 31points on VHG…..even tho whitehead & SMB got scored on and looked lost in coverage at times as well…..

VHG will bounce back….just like JW after the 9ers game…..

folks just need a scapegoat…..im just surprised no one is mentioning whitehead or mike evans…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

We knew this would be an area of concern. When our d-line gets pressure it helps us overlook it. When there’s no pressure, well…..Somewhere in Louisiana, Michael Thomas is still running free!
We SHOULD get better. We’re expecting a LOT out of a young secondary.
VHIII has been getting exposed here of late. We’re going to have to come up with a better gameplan if we are to be successful.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    in more up lifting news:

The seat beneath head coach Dan Quinn is blazing hot and it feels like there’s a divorce barreling down the pike between him and the Falcons. The weapons that exist in North Georgia currently averaging 20.4 points per game(sound familiar) despite having a former NFL MVP in Matt Ryan, a perennial All-Pro in Julio Jones and a stellar receiving upstart in second-year talent Calvin Ridley, the offense is a key reason the team is 1-4 with no upswing in sight. At best, Gruden could be a potential head coach replacement for Quinn, but this is Dirk Koetter’s second stint with the team as an offensive coordinator and he’s failing as well — possibly leaving Quinn to jettison him and install Gruden in a flailed attempt at trying to save himself.
    **************************************************************

LOL….i tried to tell @joe last week, ATL wants dirk head to roll…..lol….DQ’s seat was somewhat luke warm but dirk has managed to have it turned up to blazing….lol…. The Falcons problem is defense and Quinn took over the D-coordinator role this season. –Joe

    813…

So you dont expect Vernon to cover anyone? What’s your excuse for him In the Giants and Rams game? When the pass rush was getting home and he still gave up catch after catch?

I get that you’re a gators fan but cmon there comes a point when you gotta call a spade a spade…

  22. Defense Rules Says:

tnew … I agree on VHIII. Bucs problem to this point in the season I think is that SMB isn’t ready, Dean has been hurt, and Ryan Smith was suspended. VHIII won the job by default is my guess. However, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him be replaced by one of those 3 for the Panthers game. I know that a lot of fans want Ramsey or Peterson, but that ship needed to sail back in training camp. Too late now, plus the cost for either would be prohibitive IMO. Too many other mouths to feed.

    thats not what im saying….

what im saying is VHG is not revis/ramsey/pat p rolled up into 1….
what im saying is with no pass rush revis/ramsey/pat p would get torched too…..

i dont make excuses for anyone…..talib and peters gave up the booty to mike evans and godwin……arent those 2 CB’s far better than VHG?……and they both got cooked just like VHG…..you cant blame the giants game on VHG….outside of shaq pass rush was nonexistent and if the kicker makes his kicks we’re 3-2 instead of 2-3…..

being a gator fan has nothing to do with it…..

    out of 5games he’s had 2 bad games…..
same can be said for JW….
same can be said for mike evans…..

i know tampa is a fsu city but c’mon man…all 31points werent scored on him….whitehead and SMB got scored on too….

No he is a convenience store clerk who is short slow and stupid impersonating a CB in the nfl… no defense of him sir just let the little fella move onto the convenience store of his choice slinging jull’s and energy drinks to children

  29. Bobby M. Says:

We’ve spent a 1st, four 2nds, two 3rds, and two 4ths on the secondary you see now. Two 1st rd picks for Ramsey seems like a bargain compared to letting Licht continue to swing and miss.

  30. Perimeter Blocker Says:

How much draft capital do we have to spend back there to get it right???

  31. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Greedy Williams was the pick instead of this stiff bunting…..just like laremy tunsil over vh3 toast and dalvin cook over oj howard…but 5-11 gms pick 5-11 players

Forget Patrick Peterson , Get a Dam Right Tackle !!! Who in the Hell goes into a season with a right guard and tackle that the Bucs did !!! I’ve been talking about this as have many others since April and Jason I Wanna Out fox myself Licht has again cost his team , the players, fan base and owners with absolutely delusional decisions!!! What was Arians thinking !!! What a bunch of non intelligent jocks !!!

Btw Hardgraves gave a clinic on why he was the absolute wrong db for the nfc south !!! Boys and Girlioes this Sht ain’t hard Jason Stumble bum Licht makes it hard !!!

Out of 4 years how many good games has he had? I’ll wait.

I’m a Gator and I have no problem saying VH sucks. Actually they all suck in the secondary.

This season s playing out just like the last. Yesterday was our Chicago game from last year. Nobody covered and a backup QB having a career day.

SMB was definitely looking better out there yesterday. Still developing obviously.

On the other handVernon Hargreaves in year 4 is as bad as EJ Biggers was

Yeah, let that sink in. Oh, and our d-line had absolutely NO PRESSURE. Zero.

  39. unbelievable Says:

    “out of 5games he’s had 2 bad games…..”

That’s 40% bro! And that’s just this season. How many GOOD games has he had his entire career?

I’d argue 2 1/2 total…. in 4 years (ok 3 years since he was injured).

He’s too small and too slow. Unfortunately that can’t be fixed. Put him in the slot where he belongs. #1 and #2 WRs on most teams absolutely destroy him.

  40. Kgh4life Says:

Time for the coaching staff to make a change in the secondary. You don’t draft DB’s in the 2nd and 3rd round for them to sit on the bench. Put Jamel Dean in the the starting line up for VHIII, can’t be any worse.

  41. Rick Says:

    An unlikely hero.

  42. SOEbuc Says:

    JoeBucsSheep.com

This is much more on these coaches than Licht. Ppl that say “FIRE LICHT!” are idiots. Licht gets together with these coaches and determine players to draft and who to put on the field. We have a baby secondary with BIG potential that have been in Bowels system through five games and so called fans want to chop their heads off.

VH3 needs to be taken off #1 CB immediately. Patrick Peterson would be a dream to teach up this young secondary and bring his game along with him. Sign an average RT and draft one in the second round next year.

  43. pick6 Says:

Carlton Davis and VH3 are having their confidence eradicated by opposing WRs. the only way this gets solved is by new guys like SMB filling in and doing better

  44. 813bucboi Says:

    Jmarkbuc & unbelievable

the same can be said about winston…lol….

every player under smittys coaching sucked so if your basing your decision off that, then your clueless…..

VHG had a bad game, but he wasnt the only one…..so did JW…..so did mike evans….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  45. unbelievable Says:

No, the difference is that VH3 only has 2 or 3 ‘good’ games his entire career…

  46. 813bucboi Says:

The Falcons problem is defense and Quinn took over the D-coordinator role this season. –Joe

    not so fast joe….lol….

they arent scoring as many points as they were last year…..theyve only scored 30points or more once this season which was also a lose…..

falcons offense is wearing out their defense….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  47. DalvinCookRules Says:

Bucs arent going to be better until they get a new GM. BA is the best coach the Bucs have had since Dungy. The talent shortagr at key positions is truly upsetting and Licht is the singular reason for that. He shouldve been let go the same day the Bucs cut Aguayo.

  48. 813bucboi Says:

    unbelieable

    and JW?……

he’s cost us more games than he’s won us thats for sure…..how many blake brotels records has he broken?…..

c’mon man……i root for JW doesnt matter if he throws 2pick6’s like he did vs the 9ers or 4picks like he did vs CINCY last year…..i say he had a bad game and i move on……i dont sit here and bash him…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  49. 813bucboi Says:

    unbelievable

VHG is in the first year on TB’s system…..lol….you act like the kid has been playing in this scheme for years….lol…

    but i get it…..

every other CB in the NFL can cover WRs without any pressure on the opposing QB……every CB in the league is 6’2 and runs 4.1 and doesnt need safety help or pressure on the QB…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  50. unbelievable Says:

JW has had far more than 2 good games his entire career lol. And when he has a bad game, like SF, or Cincy, I rip him a new one.

BTW everyone is in their first year under these new schemes, not just VH3 lol.

VH3 just isn’t good enough for the NFL, at least not as an outside corner. Too small and too slow. Sorry you can’t accept that.

Obviously pressure is part of it too. But when you’re asked to play man, you gotta be able to stay on your man. VH3 is never close to his WR.

  51. doctor_berto Says:

813, Hargreaves is probably the worst starter on any team at this point, offense or defense.

  52. 813bucboi Says:

Obviously pressure is part of it too. But when you’re asked to play man, you gotta be able to stay on your man. VH3 is never close to his WR.

stay with your man for how long?…lol…6,7,8sec?……not even ramsey can do that?…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  53. unbelievable Says:

It wasn’t nearly that long on most of those receptions and you know that, cmon bro you’re just being ridiculous at this point.

Is he the worst starting cornerback in the NFL? Probably not.

Is he even in the top-40? Definitely not.

  54. Bucfan1988 Says:

Very simple on VH3 and anyone else playing press coverage…
TRY JAMMING RECEIVERS AT THE LINE!!!! Nobody is even trying to do that. WTF??? That is weak-a$$ play…Not trying to re-route, ughhhhh 😩😩😩. That, my friend, is called SOFT press coverage. No one is being physical with opposing WR’s…

Until that happens, this secondary is toast….
Coverage & pass rush have to work together. It’s time for someone to put their foot down and not allow the WR to dictate the route….

  55. HowMuchIsAnEarOfCornInTampa? Says:

Instead of waiting for a press conference to ask the question that Bucfan1988 just brought up about the non-press coverage or SOFT coverage as he called it, why in the hell doesn’t the drive-by-media Joe get off his ass and go ask Bruce, Lefty or the fooking waterboy why this is happening. At some point, I want to know why Joe isn’t acting like a reporter and gumshoeing some information to us instead of waiting for Chris Simms or a fooking media event to ask questions.

  56. Pewter power Says:

When Arians said some guys are soft in the secondary my money is on one guy in particular and that is VH3, the diva of training camp. He’s already been called out on like his first day of practice for BA. Make a move and let the new guys who will be here next year get the experience they need or go out and get a stud to compete this year I dont care which you do just do something.

  57. tnew Says:

Problem with VHIII playing press is his lack of top end speed, same as Stewart and a lack of size to overcome the lack of top end speed. Put him in the slot and he has a chance. Having him as a DB1 on the outside is not gonna work no matter where he was drafted.

  58. Buczilla Says:

Shaq is flirting with dpoy and Rojo is starting to look like a legit running back. The jury is still out on Winston and White, but we have some bright spots. We just need some more damn wins and some serious secondary help.

  59. Jmarkbuc Says:

    VH to the slot?

    VH to the street!

Make an example out of him…definitely not worried about him excelling on another team. Dude is not a player, he’s a poser.
