Running Into A Buzzsaw

October 7th, 2019

Regroup.

Maybe this loss isn’t such an awful thing?

First, the Bucs loss to the Saints in New Orleans might just wake up the powers that be at One Buc Palace that the secondary they chose is not a secondary they can win meaningful games with.

And when Joe writes “meaningful,”  those are wins that get a team to playing January football and beyond.

Simply put, the Bucs had one of their worst statistical games of the season yesterday.

* The Bucs had their lowest offensive output of the season at 252 yards.

* Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones, mistaken by some locally as Gale Sayers and Walter Payton, had 32 and 35 yards rushing, respectively. (The Saints have yet to allow a 100-yard rusher in a game this season.)

* America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, had one of his worst games. He had his second-lowest passing yards (204) and tied his lowest completion total (15).

So what does this tell us? The Saints showed the Bucs just how far they have to go to be a solid playoff team. And the Saints exposed holes on the Bucs that may jump-start team officials to address them. And soon.

This also tells Joe things will get better. On the horizon is the Stinking Panthers, who the Bucs already beat this season. This time the Stinking Panthers will start a backup quarterback.

Wait a minute. A backup quarterback is the kiss of death for the Bucs, isn’t it?

    Unlikely.

  3. DayOnePaul Says:

Our WRs were blanketed all day.

Our OL couldn’t keep Jameis clean.

Our defensive backs were torched all day long.

All the calls went N.O. Way.

    That’s it.

This roster isn’t even close to playoff caliber.

  4. 813bucboi Says:

pass rush and secondary go hand in hand…..

doesnt matter if we have ramsey on 1 side and pat p on the other….if QB’s can make a ham sandwich in the pocket, CBs will get cooked….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  5. adam from ny Says:

it’s hard to beat a divisional opponent twice in one season…splits happen often…

    just sayin”

  6. tmaxcon Says:

that oline laid down and played dead yesterday joe. that can not be ignored…. it was across the board. marpet was destroyed and I hate me some dotson but i even felt sorry for dotson yesterday. it was truly sad how embarrassing his play was yesterday. on a positive for dotson at least he had vh3bust craping all over himself again to outshine his suckness. the winston held onto it to long crowd have a point some weeks but not against the saints. he was running for his life on the snap.

  7. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“What we have received/seen yesterday from the punchable face Sean Peyton

is the blueprint to defeat/expose/embarrass the Bucs and the Bucs coaching staff

*They will double/chip Barrett every down to make him ineffective

*defenses will play 2 high with their safetys. 2 centerfielders playing top of ME and Godwin. No more go routes for ME

*With our QB coach Intern Leftfoot forcing our TEs to block and his lack of slants and short pass routes

the blueprint is easy see and apply

As long as Cam Newton doesnt play

Bucs are going to get torched”

  8. adam from ny Says:

mike evans was in a freakin’ haze yesterday…

not sure what he was actually doing out there….

on that pass he didn’t catch over them middle, he was scared he might get hit by an oncoming defender, so he didn’t extend himself…

    check the replay…

he kinda played shook all game…

as if someone texted him “beware we are gonna helmet to helmet you son”

  9. Coburn Says:

Wasn’t able to see the game but based on highlights and box score ypc looks like our running game was doing just fine. Guess some failed 3RD nd short pass completions and falling behind will make those attempt numbers low but both backs had almost 5 you if I recall.

  10. DayOnePaul Says:

    MJ Stewart just can’t play.

  11. JP_09 Says:

GO GET PATRICK PETERSON. @Joe & Ira y’all need to plant the seed in Arians head during his press conferences. Ask “Bruce have you talked with Jason about trying to make a trade to add a veteran presence in the secondary, like a Jalen Ramsey or Patrick Peterson?”

  12. Bird Says:

Oline worst game. They didn’t do Jameis any favors

  13. Lamarcus Says:

Mahomes said he can’t beat man coverage. Teams are single man covering his guys and needs to fix it. Can we get one of Colts undrafted corners please?

  14. Bird Says:

“But he fought to the end”. With tears in his eyes cause he is a child aka Ndog

  15. Lamarcus Says:

Then this overrated oline who plays a good game and gets busy into Canton and then when they play bad it’s all crickets and blame towards the coaching staff. D Simth is still the worst starting LT in the league and we have the worst tackle situation in the league right now

  16. TOM Says:

All around bad game. Looks like Licht will have to draft a few more CB’s in the earle rounds of the 2020 draft again. And like BA & Licht says OL is just fine. This team is still a joke. Have a long way to go.

  17. BamaRich Says:

    Patrick Peterson on line #1

  18. Lamarcus Says:

Please for the life of me. I’m screaming way from Vegas. Please Please Please get some new guys to play corner. It’s bad. It wasn’t Mike Smith. These guys are sorry. 2 coaching staff same results. We need them out of the starting line up. PLEASE start with VH3

MJ Stewart is an ALL PRO compared to vh3bust

  20. ElioT Says:

    Sign Jason Licht for life!!!

Trade Shaq Barrett and use all the picks for more DBs in 2020!

  21. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Joe, sure would like your take on Winston slamming Cam Jordan’s head to the ground after the play was over.

  22. Hodad Says:

No this loss isn’t awful, next weeks will be. The team we beat in Carolina has a back up QB!! We all know what they do to us, we don’t stand a chance. We’ll see who Winston is too, this is a good defense.

  23. AMI_Chris Says:

Where can I make a prop bet on Kyle Allen as next week’s NFC Offensive Player of the Week?

  24. passthebuc Says:

why is everyones back QB better than our starting QB.

  25. gilhealy Says:

@Morgus Prickness, you mean after he grabbed Winston’s facemask and wasn’t called for it? Good for Jameis.

  26. DalvinCookRules Says:

As long as Licht is here, this team will continue to reach for players that should be taken in later rounds and miss on the future probowlers that get teams to the playoffs.

  27. tnew Says:

Pass… because our secondary is the worst in the league, by a far amount. Right now ranked 32nd and its not close. Nearly 30 yards clear of the next closest team. For a comparison, the Patriots defense needs over two games to reach what the Bucs average in one. Let that sink in. This is one of the big problems with Winston’s perception since he has been here. Pretty much the entire time the defense has been the worst in the league vs the pass since he has been here. Most fans watch highlights and the Bucs games. They see QB’s get to make the simplest of throws like the TD to Guin yesterday and think it should be that easy. I didn’t think it was possible for a WR to be that open.

  28. JimBuc2 Says:

Starting not to care anymore. Bucs work overtime to maintain irrelevance. Think I’ll get out my cue stick and work on my nine ball game. Bucs suck, period. Last year, year before that, last decade. Ok, rack ’em up.

  29. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Gilhealy prickness….didn’t ask for your take. But if you like what Winston did, fine….it was LOW class. But that’s not anything new with him, is it?

  30. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Bucs had their lowest offensive output of the season at 252 yards.

    M Thomas – 11 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. M Evans – 0

Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones, mistaken by some locally as Gale Sayers and Walter Payton, had 32 and 35 yards rushing, respectively

    Player ATT YDS LNG
    A. Kamara. 16. 62. 16

    L. Murray. 7. 28. 12

    Bucs did stopping run

Bucs have injuries and inexperience on D- they were not going to win with 24 points, and Evans needs to be a factor

  31. BucsBandit Says:

    WILL THINGS GET… WORSE?

One thing Joe isn’t addressing is the fact that the more FILM opposing teams have on the Bucs, the easier it becomes to game plan against the Bucs.

The Bucs starting the season will the element of the UNKNOWN. Other teams didn’t want kind of plays we’d be calling on either side of the ball.

No other teams have a solid idea and can game plan to exploit our weaknesses and our tendencies.

The Bucs have very few advantageous matchups from a personnel standpoint with the exception of Evans and Godwin that can both beat many great DBs. But teams are finding ways to take one or the other out of games completely while still being able to pressure Winston into bad throws.

  32. BucsBandit Says:

    ^^^ TYPO CITY.

Meant we started the season as a big MYSTERY on both sides of the balls as to what types of plays/schemes we’d call. No other teams have FILM on us.

And our personnel weaknesses on both sides of the ball are now clearly known as well.

  33. SJ_Bucsfan Says:

    Bucs Being Bucs… Sigh

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Joe says:

“And the Saints exposed holes on the Bucs that may jump-start team officials to address them.”

The Bucs have had more exposed holes than a golf course and the Mons combined, for a long time. The Saints get no credit there.

Our front office has done nothing, and I don’t expect they will. Gimp thinks these guys are great, and BS thinks everything’s is fixed.

Things never change here in Bucville.

  35. BucEmUp Says:

Runs up the middle and constant vertical deep routes.

Imagine what the saints offense would look lime without their short passing game..Defenses would easily know if it were a deep pass or a run up the middle. Sound familiar? The rams coaching is worse than we thought, and.are the bucs. We could use an uograde at corner, but that crap show by the offensive line yesterday coukd have been countered with better playcalling. Its what I expected to see.from leftwich. The saint’s knew he would come with the same game plan and he did just like he said in his presser. His words”It dont matter what coverage the defense showin…as long as we execute we gon be ok, we gon be allright.”

I dont know about you guys but I would prefer to have Arians…a coach that schemes his offense based on the defemses tendencies and what they do and dont do well, calling the plays.

  36. isrBuc Says:

So if we are so far away, as you suggest, how can we possibly pay one guy 30$ ? Does anyone on a team that is so far away worth 30$ per?

Exactly, only the stubborn FSU nuthuggers would be alright paying him that. He is barely worth half of that!

  38. Defense Rules Says:

The trenches drove the day more than anything else IMO. New Orleans’ OLine kept pressure off of Bridgewater all day (Bucs had ZERO sacks, only 3 QB Hits, and TFLs). New Orleans DLine pummeled our OLine (and Winston) all day long (Saints had SIX sacks, 8 QB Hits & 8 TFLs).

As a consequence of that beatdown, Saints had 70 offensive plays (which our defense had to defend against) to 59 offensive plays for the Bucs (makes it easier on the Saints’ defense?). That 11 play differential is bad enough, but it’s actually MUCH worse because sacks, etc are counted in there (we really only had 22 rushes and 27 passes, while the Saints had 31 rushes and 36 passes … an 18-play differential). Four 3-and-outs plus two 5-and-outs for the Bucs, all ending in punts, pretty much tell the story of the game IMO.

Bucs’ running game never got untracked largely because the big guys forgot how to run-block. Our passing game REALLY stunk it up, again largely because our OLine also forgot how to pass-block.

  39. #1bucsfan Says:

Pathetic effort by our team. The whole team not just 1 player or a few players everyone except our kicker played pathetic. Get it together crew or it’s more of the same S H I T DIFFERENT DAY

  40. unbelievable Says:

The stinking panthers who have a better record than us?

The stinking panthers who have more sacks and QB pressure than us?

Tell me how Cappa and Dotsons replacements are gonna fare against the stinking panthers… lol at the premise of this article. Just lol.

  41. Cobraboy Says:

    What is the big deal?

The Bucs got a tail whuppin’.

    N.O. is a good, Super Bowl-potential team.

WE see where the Bucs stand, and what needs to be done.

We should thank the Saints for the early-term exam.

  42. Buccfan37 Says:

The Saints were fired up to smash the Bucs and went out and did so easily. The Bucs had no answer. The final score did not reflect the severity of the beating.

  43. NYC Bucs Says:

Going against the best player in the NFL. McCaffery.

  44. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

The defense is getting worse each week. Joe, you spent two years basking on the D coordinator and convinced many on this site that coaching was the problem. They were all convinced that those problems were behind the team as long as he was gone. Many of the fans really paying attention knew that lack of talent was the real problem. Amazing the amount of draft capital we have put into the secondary and none of it, NONE OF IT, is any good. Licht should already be fired. We have been wasting 2nd rounders like nobody’s business, and all these picks on corners that sucks. It is so frustrating. My son who isn’t very interested in football at 13 was finally watching the game with me yesterday. I was so happy to be spending some one on one time with him. When the Saints marched down the field he realized these were the same old Bucs that he has watched lose for years and he just went back upstairs to play video games. The Glazers need to do something because they can’t cultivate a fan base when they play like sh!t year after year after year.

  45. gilhealy Says:

Morgus, everything you post is low class. But, that’s not anything new with you, is it.

  46. teacherman777 Says:

New Orleans defense is made up of THUGS.

Our defense is made up of “high character” nice guys.

Defenses in the NFL must be gangster to be great.

    Our defense is soft!

  47. Billy_45 Says:

    VH3 is the joke.
Some of the worst CB play I have EVER seen.

Even when Thomas was doubled he caught 1st Downs.

    That was embarrassing.

Plus throw in the fact officials all feel the Saints have been robbed and are afraid to call the game right.

Obvious fumble and recovery and obvious PI.

Those 2 timeouts might change the game, not to mention play.
