Warrior Chris Godwin

September 29th, 2019

Playah.

By the label slapped on him by the team last week, Bucs receiver Chris Godwin was questionable for today’s game.

But Godwin all but had his mind made up he was going to play. It’s in his DNA, he told Joe in the happy Bucs locker room.

“This is something I take pride in,” Godwin said of answering the bell today. He had 172 yards receiving and two touchdowns. “I try to be a well-rounded player.  I want to be a good blocker. I want to be in there and battle with my guys. I take a lot of pride in that.”

And the Bucs ought to take a lot of pride that Godwin very well could be the best No. 2 receiver in the NFL. It was clear that Los Angeles defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was scared of Mike Evans as Evans often drew double-coverage.

That left Godwin with single or no coverage and he made the Rams pay dearly.

Joe knows people like to bang on Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht for his drafts. But in picking Godwin in the third round, Licht and the Bucs hit a total home run.

You see what happens when we win?ESPN is giving us a lot of air time as is many networks. Winning is everything. They can’t believe we did it. Now..How come we cannot be consistent? defend Home? Do this and the networks will cream in their pants. But can we/ Saints up next baby. Great Win. And yes, even I..doubted us. WHY? Because we are not..consistent. Lets see if we can continue to upset many apple carts.

  4. Bosch Says:

Agree Joe. No team is stronger at receiver than the bucs.

  5. MadMax Says:

Our second #1 Wideout!!!!! Its so nice to have two of them!!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Godwin was big….I think Whitehead will also be a star…too soon on Edwards…but he looks good

  7. Sunny Says:

Imagine if we still at humps at number 3 , I hate Perriman , he is a liability and nothing exiting after him , Just hope ME13 and Godwin don’t get injured . . . That said I would like to see brate and OJ get more balls instead of the RB’s and Perriman

  8. Cometowin2 Says:

Chris is definitely a #1 receiver in addition to Evans. No divas either. Great position to be in. Go Bucs!!!

  9. mark2001 Says:

The more receivers Jameis feels comfortable throwing the ball to in critical situations, the better. He lost Adam, but he apparently feels comfortable with Evans, Godwin, and Brate…Jones and Barber out of the backfield…..he doesn’t have to force it to any one. If we can add Perryman to that list, we should be firing on all cylinders.

  10. mark2001 Says:

Before some of you anoint him as the number 1 receiver, understand, the D’s have been challenging us to find someone other than Evans and have been helping to defend him. Nothing wrong with having a 1a and 1b receiver, with Chris being a 1b at this time. He keeps playing like this, and he will open up the field more for Mike and the other receivers. Great Job Chris… they are learning they can’t play you with their second best DB and double Mike.

  11. Bobby Says:

Mark2001….Godwin is a true #1 receiver…period. I knew it when we drafted him and I’ve been touting him as such from day 1. Arians knew it too which is why he said Godwin would have a 100 catch season. With Evans and Godwin we have the best receiving Corp in the NFL. We also have two of the best TE’s if we can get them more involved. Our weapons are ridiculous. We are absolutely loaded on offense and if Winston can stay accurate and the O-line stays healthy we’re going to score a ridiculous amount of points.

I’ve been smiling since Suh ran back the fumble for the TD.

    It feels good!

  13. ElioT Says:

Godwin plays the game the right way.

Seems he and Evans have a good relationship and neither has a diva attitude like so many others.

That hit he put on Talib to get to the end zone was a thing of beauty. Stuff like that will turn this team into a winner.

Thank you Chris! Keep it up dude.

  14. BucsBandit Says:

mark2001 – Godwin has been a ‘legend’ ever since we drafted him. He has torn up every training camp since he was drafted. He consistently performs at a high level.

What a blessing it is to have #12 & #13 They both give it 100% & are gentlemen off the field the total opposite of OJB & A Brown The clown!!!!

  18. #1 BUCFAN Says:

I think the Bucs are finally seeing just what the BA Offense is all about.

The Defence was awesome. Keep grinding.

  19. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

87, the image of that big man running so darn fast to the end zone will forever be embedded in my brain.

Chris Godwin. Please Buc Luck, back off this man! I know squat about college football so stay out of the draft raps. But I knew he was for real from the time he came here. Not surprised that he and ME13 respect each other. I have been waiting for 3 years for this offense to start blossoming with the talent amassing on it. DK drove me nuts. No wonder BA came out of retirement.
