“This Is Kind Of The Worst I’ve Felt”

September 4th, 2019

Aging

Maybe Demar Dotson can call Dr. Oz for cutting-edge supplements, or perhaps he get a new massage therapist.

Personally, Joe find the wings at Abe’s Place invigorating.

The straightest-shooter in the Tampa Bay locker room, Dotson said today he’s been feeling all of the 33 years and 11 months in his football body.

Nowadays he’s pacing himself far more often, Dotson said, and it was a rough August.

“This was an interesting year for me because like I said, I’ll be 34 here next month, you know and this probably was the worst I’ve felt [through training camp],” Dotson said. “But you know how to pace yourself and push yourself and know when to go hard and know when to kind of just back up. … I kind of learned some stuff, you know, this year.”

Keep that head on a swivel, Jameis!

No, those were’t the most inspiring comments from Dotson as it relates to his ability to grind out a 16-game season plus a few playoff games.

Joe won’t worry about Dotson until later in the season, though Father Time is relentless and undefeated.

On this topic, Joe will leave you with the candid words of Bucco Bruce Arians five months ago when Joe asked about hims scrutinizing Dotson’s game film.

JoeBucsFan.com: What did you see from Demar Dotson on film, studying him and making the call to bring him back?

Bruce Arians: I mean he can still pass block. I mean, to me, that’s where you start. Can he get better in the running game? Yeah. But, you know, sometimes you’re asking a guy [and] he just physically can’t do something. I’ve had a couple of tackles that were really good pass blockers that couldn’t cut off to the left. Don’t ask him to. It’s no secret. We’ll run some plays just one way. Alright. It’s the only [play] in the game and we’re going to run it right. They know it. We know it. Stop it. You know, but don’t ask him to do a bunch of that. You still have to do some of it. But don’t ask him to do a bunch of it because he’s going to lose. But he can still block.

all dotson knows how to do is lose and drop to the fetal position any time a defender gets near him. if he can not collapse to the fetal position fast enough he just holds the sucker…. get this has been that never was out of here BA….

  2. BigMacAttack Says:

    Good guy, time to go

  3. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

His height used to be a strength because of his long arms. Now I think it is working against him, he just can’t bend like he used to and looks stiff all the time.
That right side of the line is scary.
And this is the year where Jameis has to prove it all??? Good luck young fella!

  4. DooshLaRue Says:

I smell a long term contact extension coming!

    Joe,
Wings can be many things, spicy, filling etc….. but invigorating?

    Really?

  5. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

Im telling you Hawkins will take his spot real soon and I also feel Bailey will slide in at RG as well moving Dotson and Cappa to the bench. I just don’t see Cappa as a RG I think backing up RT or LT will serve him better. Bailey making the team says soon to be starter to me as well. Resigning D. Smith may prove to rewarding though if they get him to move to RT.

  6. Big_Buc$ Says:

@ Tmaxcon I just wanna say you really open my eyes to the bucs. I use to think that you were just hateful to McCoy but then I started paying attention more and more and you were spot on with it his play and how he disappears in the 4th quarter and wasn’t good against the run. 23 offensive tackles were drafted in this past draft. 13 went in the first 3 rounds. You mean to tell me you couldn’t find a solid tackle with 4 picks in the first 3 rounds? I thought Dotson would have been cut back in Feb before the season started. I just don’t understand how they can say they are fine with the right side of the offensive line.

  7. Delawest Says:

    I have problems with Dotson.
    SMH

  8. Jean Lafitte Says:

I would move Hawkins to RT and make Dotson the spot duty swing tackle. That would keep him fresh.

  9. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

    Go home maxi pad…you’re drunk.

  10. SmoothBayRider Says:

I wonder if there is a player on this roster that Tmax thinks is good . He sure seems like a real life Silky Johnson to me .

  11. Isaac haggins Says:

I would make 12 pieces of this team available to every team in the NFL and get my ass two good lineman and that includes draft picks for a three yr contract guy !!!

Do these teams really trust their scouts ……… NO

That’s why is burdensome to do deals

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Dotson has done his job as a pass blocker but he was bad this preseason. Saw him get blown up a few time and saw him miss assignments allowing a free rusher to the QB.

If he hasn’t felt good this off-season it certainly showed. My first hope will be that he plays well and earns his contract, if not this coaching staff better not be like the last one and will yank his ass out of the game if he cannot do his job. And if they don’t have somebody prepared and ready to step in it’s nobody else’s fault but their own.

A quick look at Benechot last year’s shows they went all year with him as a problem and had nobody prepared to step in and the issue went unaddressed for 16 games. There’s ton of guys looking for work and 32 practice squads filled with tackles. Other teams can find competent OL during the season(Washington last year for example). No excuse is acceptable.

  13. StonedBuc Says:

Its going to be a looooong year.

  14. Hodad Says:

If he’s feeling it from August, how’s he gonna make it for 17 weeks? Answer, he’s not. Should’ve been replaced years ago. Risner was sitting right there in the 2nd round, but Licht took Bunt Cake who’s listed as the 5th corner!! Can’t make this sh#t up.

  15. firethecannons Says:

wow this is Lichts fault!, and some nutritionist needs to start the collagen rich chicken foot bone broth for this old dude! I’m dead serious that stuff is unbelievable for joints. Anyway Licht needs to trade Cam Brate and make a deal for Melvin Gordon and hurry!

  16. LordCornelius Says:

Glass half full take = “i wasn’t trying or giving a sh*** in training camp or preseason but will go hard in regular season while practicing minimally.”

I forgot who it was but some old guy on the Broncos OL didn’t practice once the entire year the year they won the SB. He just played on game day lol.

Dalton Risner was there for the taking in R2. Can play any spot on the line and would have been terrific backup / competition for RG/RT. Oh well.

    GO BUCS!

  17. Bucnjim Says:

It’s the excuse caboose! Strong statements followed by the well you know excuses, excuses, excuses, and finally another excuse. McCoy already started his own line of excuses in Carolina for anyone who hasn’t followed his preseason antics. Speaking of McCoy shouldn’t we have an article about Nassib being voted team captain?

  18. Rayjay1122 Says:

    He needs to retire yesterday!

  19. bobbo Says:

Dot is smart as hell, that’s how he’s been able to overcome his age. Unfortunately time is catching up to him.

  20. SmoothBayRider Says:

Waiting to come across a player that TMax likes .

  21. Isaac haggins Says:

Oh Carolina is going to get a full basket of I love the camera, blabber mouth, talk before I think, oh look I’m the nicest guy on the team, I’m a victim …….Gerald McCoy ……. I hv not paid attention but you know it’s coming !!!!

  22. Adrnagy Says:

Good dude but his days are over like 2 yrs ago. First test Dee Ford , nick boss if they play will be a force changing between Dotson and smith.

Idk if it’s smart to lay out your RT weaknesses out in public for opponents to have it that easy. No wonder Jameis has been slinging it all this time. No oline no rb no defense.

  23. Slugglife Says:

I guess there aren’t any UDFA available. Can’t tell me it ain’t worth beinging some big boys in for a look. If he feels that bad now, Jameis ain’t far behind.

    Dial up those screens BL.

  24. Christopher Schiefen Says:

“PLUS SOME PLAYOFF GAMES”…you did it Joe! Optimism! 😉

  25. Rod Munch Says:

You dopes had better hope Dotson is able to play well since there is straight up trash behind him.

You dopes had better hope Dotson is able to play well since there is straight up trash behind him.

just because dotson might be the best turd in the bowl that does not make it acceptable or edible pal… he’s garbage and should have been replaced 8 years ago… sure he’s a starter for bucs but that’s like being the janitor for the patriots….

  27. 813bucboi Says:

    lol…..

well at least our staff is smart enough to not trying to force a square into a hole…..the previous staff wouldve just kept running to his side…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. tmaxcon Says:

    SmoothBayRider

i have a tremendous amount of respect for most of the buc players but that does not make them NFL talent or good…. cancer93, lvd and dotson have been the leaders of the losing culture for nearly a decade I have been fairly consistent with my disdain for those 3 for better part of 8 years…. i once had hope that LVD could be salvaged but he was too far gone 3 years ago…. the others that I have issues with have earned the crap i throw there way. Vh3bust is an embarrassing fragile little punk who celebrates overthrows right after he gets torched for 6… the others I take shots are also well deserving either for laziness or pure stupidity like in the case of the dumbest player in recent nfl history our drivers education instructor and resident fireworks expert jpp…

lowering standards or rating players on a curve just to be happy is pathetic…

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch…..Have you actually saw this tackle we traded for from the Steelers or are you just talking out your ass?

  30. DB55 Says:

    Joe

I will bet you a bucket of wings that if jbf and by extension Ira ignore this guy he’ll retire. Stop feeding him….every time he’s on the field JW is closer to a stretcher. Do you want that on your conscience?

  31. Sydney Says:

You know he has to block Pro Bowl DE Dee Ford, right? Anyone else watched him play? 13 sacks last year. Beast. A tired “old man” might have a bit of a problem handling him.

    Here’s Ford’s 2018 sack compilation on youtube: https://youtu.be/gyPiDgNYShs

    Watch and cringe.

  32. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Oh man, almost 34 year old guy is tired before the 1st game. WOW, just WOW. #itstrulyabucslife!

  33. BucsFan727 Says:

    Hey Terdmat. Buc U

  34. Mike10 Says:

Every other article here reminds me of the million dollar question: how in the heck is Licht still here?

How do you not have ANYONE behind a 34 year old.. riddle me that

  35. Gofortheface30 Says:

Lord Cornelius – that was Gary Zimmerman. A hall of famer, and legit one of the top 5 left tackles that ever lived. He can take the week off and bang my sister for all I care, he can do what he wants. Demar freaking Dotson? He can kindly go F right off. I’m sure Dotson is a nice dude, but that ain’t the kind of talk that I wanna hear from THAT F’ING GUY

  36. Howard Cosell Says:

How do you not have ANYONE behind a 34 year old.. riddle me that

How do you let an NFL franchise sink to this level of disarray? Riddle me that too. Answer: You have a team run by brats who never had to work a hard day in their lives and are completely disconnected from reality…oh……and they love soccer but could care less about American football (except as means to make money)

  37. BigMacAttack Says:

When a player says he’s hurting before Game 1, you have a serious problem. Dot’s comments should be throwing up red flags all over 1BP. He’s had camp and maybe 45 minutes of preseason play. At this rate, he should be bedridden by Game 3 and 6 feet under before the Bye.

  38. rrsrq Says:

Bucs won a super bowl with Kenyatta Walker

  39. TampaBay55 Says:

Sweet baby Jesus! This team is go to be out of the playoff race by the time the “home” game in London rolls arouuuu……. I HAVE TO BARF!!!

  40. Howard Cosell Says:

    Real game tomorrow night Yeah!
Two teams that are probably going to be better than the Bucs this year!
    ROOODDDGGEERRRS!!!!!

    Winston+Common sense+epic deep ball = Aaron Rodgers

  41. Joe Says:

Bucs won a super bowl with Kenyatta Walker

    As a starter!

    This is always forgotten.

  42. Trubucfan22 Says:

Sounds like he needs an appointment with Tony in south Florida.

  43. JimmyJack Says:

Howard. That is exciting. I just really hope the Bucs don’t destroy my interest in the NFL again this year. I find that on years when we are awful is is extremely difficult to have any interest in watching more football. 3-4 hours of Bucs games must just wear me out.

When the Bucs have a competitive team I get pretty excited to watch the other teams and check out our competition. Especially the prime time games when they feature powerhouse teams.

  44. BA FAN Says:

Well that explains why we now have a Steeler Swing Tackle who can start if needed. Dotson will likely face Bosa who has been hurt. If he can’t keep him out we have an experienced backup. Dotson is always honest and has been our best OL for years. Don’t count him out yet.

We’re about to licht up the 9ers

  49. adam from ny Says:

i think dotson knows he’s kinda fading out…and his comments are to protect himself…if he and cappa get steamrolled in the first few games like they did vs. cleveland, you might just see a early season retirement from him…if he simply can’t hold down his spot after 3 games he might hang it up right in the middle of the season…

  50. adam from ny Says:

comparing our linemen to tires is how it should be…haha

    on point or nah ???

  51. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Love Dotson but he is on the decline due to his age. At 6’9″, he has always had trouble bending his knees to run block. Awesome reach to pass block though, but getting to slow to pick up the fast DE.

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This is probably Dotson’s final year.

  55. unbelievable Says:

I’ll be shocked if Jameis makes it to week 10 without getting killed by this o-line.

    Shocked.

  56. Tony1775 Says:

Go Bucs. Do it for the glory, the bragging rights, the nay sayers, your family. Smash them in the mouth. Lay it on the line every play.
