Jameis Returns To Team Captaincy

September 4th, 2019

Bucs players shocked a lot of people last season when their team-wide vote for captains did not include Gerald McCoy and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Times have changed.

The votes are in and players have chosen 2019 captains. They are as follows, Jameis Winston, Mike Evans and Ali Marpet on offense, Lavonte David and Carl Nassib on defense, Dare Ogunbowale on special teams, per Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com.

Nassib is a bit of a surprise, especially with all the responsibility heaped on Devin White, the gravitas of Ndamukong Suh, and the tenure of revitalization of Vernon Hargreaves. Heck, Joe has heard of the dedication of Jordan Whitehead, and even he wouldn’t have surprised Joe.

Good for Nassib. It’s a great sign that he had a better camp and preseason than it appeared.

As for Jameis, Evans and Marpet, it’s no surprise. Jameis is back in the driver’s seat like most franchise quarterbacks. Now where will he lead the Bucs?

My boy Jamies be like “I am the captain now”. Haha haters!

  2. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Kind of scary that a second year free agent pick up is our team captain. Hopefully that says more about him than it does about this team.
It’s just crazy we don’t have any established talent on defense besides Lavonte (Suh and Barrett but it’s their first year).

I think Dare Ogunbowale is the big surprise. That kid came out of nowhere.

Jameis haters will make excuses now.

  5. Dapostman Says:

What’s going to happen to the WDS simpletons when he signs a 5 year deal and has his face back up on Raymond James Stadium? Oh boy this is going to be fun.

  6. Lamarcus Says:

    Terrible news for JW haters.

  7. Barbosa Says:

Good for Winston. B.A. said it is his team. Malcontents are gone. Time to suit up and go to battle.

  8. LordCornelius Says:

Some secondary players just HAVE to establish themselves as forces in the league at this point right lol? I mean even Gump can’t wiff on everything

    CB-Calrton Davis year 2
CB-VHIII might as well be year 2/3 with the injuries he’s had / scheme
    CB-Jamel Dean rookie
    CB-SMB rookie
    nickle/S-MJ Stewart year 2

    S-Justin Evans year 3
    S-Jordan Whitehead year 2
    S-Mike Edwards rookie

out of those 7 names – can we get at least 2 studs and another 2 starters then depth beyond that? That’d be an OK batting average for me and dramtically change the defense overnight.

    GO BUCS!

  9. 813bucboi Says:

looks like nassib might be resigned joe….lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  10. 813bucboi Says:

    whats up with nelson?….IR?..PUP list?….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. doctor_berto Says:

Thank the lord its not finger wagging, dance practice Hargreaves.

  12. D-Rome Says:

Jameis haters will make excuses now.

What excuses? The Buccaneers phased Jameis out of their marketing all of last year and didn’t have his face up on any of the Ray Jay player murals. He didn’t deserve to be captain last year. This year is different. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  13. Phil Says:

I would like to see Dare Ogunbowale as our starting running back.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

mentally weakest player in the league defensive team captain… laughable… No one blows leads like an LVD / Cancer93 led defense.

  15. Jameis’ next door neighbor Says:

I know it’s just a dream, just like me winning 5,000 dollars a week for life. But, I would like to see Bruce Anderson and Rojo in the starting backfield.

  16. T REX Says:

Eat some W’s? I hope he keeps his mouth shut. Win games please.

  17. July Joe Says:

Of course he is. Arians unlike Koetter isn’t an idiot.

  18. Tval Says:

Take your meds, Rex. It’s not ALL on the qb. We know who unstable nimrods like to blame. It’s time to move on, sir. Good day.

  19. Smashsquatch Says:

Carl and Dare earning respect from their teammates so quickly speaks volumes. Neither has a great pedigree which makes it even more impressive.

  20. firethecannons Says:

I like it all the way around! Nassib may not be great but he plays like it–think about that–plays all out and does all he can to win every play, he is good because of that. Hoping this year he might get to great, wish JPP was more into giving pointers and watching from sideline, I think he could help Nassib.

    Dare has a following! cool!

Devin White does not need to be captain to be captain–he already is captain and they all know that.

  21. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Now earn it on the field Jameis

  22. Pittsshore Says:

Hey Joe. Great line at the end, “Jameis is back in the driver seat“. Isn’t that what got him in trouble to begin with? Should he not be in the back seat “leading from behind”?

  23. Pittsshore Says:

    Rankings for 2019:
JW aka Apples McGoo. 24th ranked QB
    The Bucs team: 29th
In a nutshell: you will always have a terrible team when you have a terrible QB. There are some one-offs but those are usually associated with an injured QB trying to tough it out or a tenured QB playing past his prime.

    I agree Phil.

  25. Jean Lafitte Says:

He|| yeah with all this winning he deserves to be captain. If you don’t want to be labeled a hater you must fall in line. How dare any of you have any doubts.

  26. DBS Says:

I don’t care who has the c on their uniform and who does not. Some of the same same people have worn it and the ship still sank and could now. So shut up and show me on the field.

  27. BrianBucs Says:

The Captain always goes down with the ship

  28. Darin Says:

Some of ya dont get it. Ignore the haters. Give em attention and theyll keep talking. They dont like themselves how could they like others. Behavior is simple and predictable. And yeah Nassib is a surprise. Love his effort. He could have a huge year…..hopefully

  29. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Winston…….still, and un-arguably, the one player that has divided the Buccaneer fan base more than any other in history…and he will never have a Super Bowl ring. Never. And to Pittsshore…..GREAT line about “driver’s seat” !!!

Very true. Makes you wonder why ownership would consider dividing a fan base but it was all in the name of wins. What is our record since 2015? Not good. The Glazer kids care about one thing and that’s $$$$, the sold their souls for wins and it backfired.

  31. Bucnjim Says:

I have never really gotten the dislike on here for Nassib. I myself have always been a huge fan of the blue collar players you know the Rudy’s of the world.

  32. Bucnjim Says:

Or the great Rodney Dangerfield would say I still can’t get no respect!

  33. BucEmUp Says:

Alaskan thats a dumb comment, the guy played less snaps than jpp let him play a full season as a starter. Pretty sure the players know something you dont

  34. BucsBandit Says:

LOL at all the Jameis-huggers implying that nearly EVERY NFL ANALYST is a “hater” since they also state that Jameis sucks.

Just remember… Jameis Winston was BENCHED due to his incompetence last season for a reason.

  35. Ndog Says:

Just remember Drew Brees was let go as was Doug Williams, Brad Johnson, Chris Carter, Warren Moon and many others. And yes those we’re all idiotic decisions as well. Good point Bandit there are people as clueless as you out there.

  36. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    BucEmUp
Not sure what triggered you but everything I said is true. Calling it a dumb comment does not add anything to the conversation.

The guy is cut by the browns and the next year he is our team captain. How is that not a indication of the lack of established players in our defense?

    It’s called reading comprehension

  37. Lamarcus Says:

    Bucbandit

    Hahaha. You mad bro?

  38. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Hopefully Jay Miss will not be “eating W’s” this season, just earning W’s.

  39. Clean House Says:

One teams trash is another’s treasure- I’m really glad for this guy Nassib. Must be a real honor for him- what a turn of events

  40. Old School Athlete Says:

Not terribly concerned who the captains are. Leaders will not tolerate their teammates laughing, joking, cutting up on the bench when we’re down by two or more scores in the 4th quarter. I saw that last year and it still bothers me.
Play with pride, passion and urgency or don’t play at all. The biggest change I want to see this year is EVERYONE on this team, including coaches, showing me that they hate losing and will do everything within the rules to prevent it.

  41. Brandon Says:

All I’ve seen is Nassib carry out his assignments to a Tee and do them well. From what I understand, he has been very vocal and helpful since the departure of McCoy. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he had a nice 8-10 sack year.

  42. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Brees is not comparable to jameis. Brees tore his shoulder up, chargers for the #1 pick and they franchised Brees the following year before he went to FA. In FA, Brees first met with Dolphins/Nick saban and the story goes that they were interested in medically and not having a visit getting to know Brees. The rest is history when Brees took over the Saints. With Sean Payton.

Brees also holds NFL completion % records. He gets rid of the ball quickly too. Those are two things Jameis does not do particularly well.

  43. mark2001 Says:

This means little to nothing for the Jameis haters or lovers. The proof in the pudding, as we used to say, will be seen by week 16 or 17. Then the lovers can rejoice…or the haters will gloat. He will receive a huge contract or be cut loose and we will draft or sign a new QB. The rest of us will be happy or disgusted, depending on how the team does, not how Jameis does individually. And frankly, for the later group of fans among us including myself, the “haters and lovers” thing is really silly bordering on pathetic.

  44. WestChap Says:

Nassib is occupying the spot that would have rightfully gone to JPP. Good for him… I hope he raises his level to JPP but I’d bet on Shaq Barrett being the leading sacker on this year’s crewe. Very impressed by the love shown Dare by team… like others, I’d love to see him as our top 3rd down RB.

  45. BucsBandit Says:

    SteveK,

Little Ndog knows all that, yet he uses dumb examples to try and prove points he wants to make even though they always fall flat and are completely stupid.

He’s trying to say somehow that if the Bucs let Jameis go that he’s destined for greatness elsewhere. LOL.

If/when the Bucs let Jameis go he won’t have to worry about harassing Uber drivers because he’ll be one.

  46. Buc1987 Says:

BucsBandit ….talk about “falling flat”…If/when the Bucs let Jameis go he won’t have to worry about harassing Uber drivers because he’ll be one.

    What a clown. Yes YOU!

Wow look at everyone’s laughter that followed…..crickets…

Jameis just got a 20 million dollar 5th year option to play for this crap hole of a franchise and you see him driving for Uber.

Clown. Except clowns are funny….yer not funny…you want to be…but nope.

Will you root for Winston to succeed this season? I highly doubt it. Ya know what that makes you?

    You guessed it………… a clown.

Go Jameis! (Cause I choose to BE a fan)

    Go Bucs!

  47. RustyRhinos Says:

Joe, Why do you always write disrespect for Carl Nassib? And you wonder why players take less money to play someplace else. Just a little respect goes a long way. I do not get it.

  48. Allbuccedup Says:

Jameis says my first action as captain is free crab legs for everyone and free uber rides to the bar. HAHAHAHA

  49. Pittsshore Says:

    Spot on BucsBandit.

  50. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

The comment above correlating Winston with Drew Brees is typical of the Winston apologists. Dummies.

  51. Onetrickpony Says:

    Good one Allbuccedup 🙂
