“Jason Licht Needs To Be Fired”

September 23rd, 2019

“Look, Glazer, these local radio guys just don’t understand what we’re building.”

A former voice on the Buccaneers Radio Network has reached his breaking point.

He’s seen enough and he just can’t take it any longer.

Veteran local sports radio voice Tom Krasniqi, who hangs his hat WDAE-AM and hosts a Bucs postgame show with former Buccaneers blocking icon receiver Michael Clayton, let it all hang out for his beaten down Bucs-loving audience last night.

That groin-stomp home loss to a bad Giants team yesterday capped by a Matt Gay kicking mess should be the end of the Jason Licht era, Krasniqi said.

“I’m at a loss for words. I’m going to say something that’s probably going to get me in trouble. Jason Licht needs to be fired,” Krasniqi said before he began to scream. “That’s it. That’s it. It’s over. It’s freakin’ over. I don’t care how many years you have left on your [contract]. You can’t draft a kicker. You can’t draft anybody in the second round. It’s over. Guy’s got one job.

“… It’s not my, you know, problem that the Glazers love to pay people not to work. Guess what? They’re going to have to pay another guy not to work pretty soon because it’s not working. And it wasn’t just the field goal at the end of the game.”

Krasniqi went on to say Gay’s missed extra points lost the game and that’s all on the general manager. “I blame the guy who put him in that position,” he said.

Hey, Joe can’t defend Licht’s record on kickers. It’s been a circus sideshow.

One could make a case that the Bucs’ 28-55 record under Licht isn’t all on him, but it’s never all on any GM — win or lose. What is clear is that the Bucs have been a league joke for far too long.

Krasniqi joins JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman in the fire-Licht club. Ira wrote his fire-Licht column in mid-December.

  1. Corey Richardson Says:

    Go get Louis Riddick

  2. Jmarkbuc Says:

I’d post on this, but it would be boring..like “Water is wet”

Wake me when the Glazers are ready to sell….

  3. Lamarcus Says:

At worse. He drafted a guy that wasn’t good at something and that said player was put in that thing that situation he wasn’t good at it TO WIN A GAME!! ……and LOST!! in the most inevitable way possible. Licht is not good at being a gm. You don’t bring in players to lose games. Licht should be in embarrassed

  4. knucknbuc Says:

welcome to the club plenty of room on the bandwagon eventhough you guys are like 3 years late. you finally seen the licht. best draft pick hes had is mike evans and the best fa pickup hes had is shaq barret. between those two its a crap ton of inconsistency and swings and misses.

  5. FortMyersDave Says:

TKraz nailed it but its not just the kicker, its draft pick after draft pick being wasted on a sieve of a secondary, its 5 failure FA signings for every bright spot like Shaq Barrett. Look Glazer lads, you do not have to fire him, simply reassign him to dome job where he can not derail the team anymore. Hire a president of football ops to right the franchise. Bucco Bruce crowed about accountability but is that just smoke and mirrors like Sam I Am Wyche put out their with his 6 dash 10 teams????(?

  6. BUC CHEEKS Says:

I’m with you guys ^^^Sell the team and sell United too!!! But 1st… Fire Licht, and take your kicker with you. The fans of Manchester United want the Glazer’s heads as well! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

  7. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I don’t get it. Why can’t they get good people to run their teams. usually a team as bad as we are would be because of too much meddling but our owners never do that.

  8. Atlanta Says:

Passing on Dalvin alone should have gotten him fired.

  9. Daniel Says:

Of course he should be fired. Should’ve been fired last December

  10. TSmitty3000 Says:

Yea Santos wasn’t great long, but reliable inside 50. I’d rather have reliability than banking on a rookie. Moreover, there is no excuse for a team to be in salary cap hell when going 5-11 on consecutive seasons.

  11. TDTB Says:

Been saying this for awhile now. To be a successful franchise, a team must draft four starters each year. If you don’t you end up with salary cap issues because you have older starters on second and third contracts as well as free agents. It’s simple math. The team has to turn over every 5 to 6 years to keep out of salary cap jail. For 2019, White is a starter, but he’s out. Nobody else from the 2019 class is a starter other than Gay…and he was missing kicks in college just like he did on Sunday, so why they expected different results escapes me. 2018’s draft class has 4 starters, but a couple players wouldn’t be starters on a better team. 2017 produced 2 starters. 2016’s draft class has 1 starter who, I believe should be a sub at nickel. The 2015 class produced 4 starters, but Kwon is gone so they only have 3. Winston, Smith and Marpet remain. This has to be the worst draft performance in the league.

  12. Buczilla Says:

It’s starts with bad ownership and the fact that they brought some bad karma to the team after neglecting it in favor of soccer for a few years. Since we can’t fire them (a gosh damned shame), I’ll settle for the gm.

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Tbucsbro

Pretty simple. The Glazer clan inherited this organization. Their family business started out as trailer park landlords…They’re not football people. Malcolm saw a good investment opportunity and took it. He was extremely fortunate to have McKay and Dungy..kinda lucked right into that.

Our current situation is a direct result of Chucky getting McKay run, and installing Bruce Allen. Those two began this setback and we’re still paying for it, especially after Malcolm passed. Lights are on but nobody’s really minding the store.

The great teams have football family’s.. McCaskey, Rooney, Mara, Hunt etc etc. and Robert Kraft who somehow made the best hire ever in whoever hired Belichick. Football people, not slumlords who hire whoever to watch over their investment.

They appear to be gullible. Maybe they just really don’t care, as long as the checks keep rolling in. I bet the boys never picked up a football in their childhood..too busy counting beans.

  14. Pepsi Says:

Devin White, Sean Bunting, Jamel Dean. Our first 3 picks in the draft have contributed nothing in these 3 games.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s not really about Matt Gay…..Gay may actually turn out to be a good kicker.

It’s about the overall body of work from Licht…..he has had several misses in the 2nd round…..I seems to always want to get cute with his picks….MJ Stewart…..SMB (perhaps)…….fans shaking their heads when 4 or 5 obvious players at the position are still on the board….
Simply thinks he is smarter that all others…..and fails.

Why in the world the Glazers gave him 5 years is beyond me…..I could see him getting an extension that matched BA…..that’s it.

  16. Wesley Says:

    He’s absolutely right!

  17. Wesley Says:

I feel bad for the Glazers they want to win, I mean they always spend to the cap. They’re just not good at hiring a g.m.. They need to hire Tony Dungy as team president and let him make the hires.

  18. snookman Says:

A lot of this has to do with………”Tampa”. Not the Bucs, Lightning, Rays..Etc… But Tampa. You see Tampa is a not a true sports town. Nobody is from Tampa. Tampa is a paradise that people come to…..live……..and die from other places. The overall attitude from most people in this area is……..im better than you because I came from.. Now how does this translate to the 1-2 Bucs………..Its the mentaility of the owners, the coaches, the players………and most of the fans. We are a bandwagon transplant community. Oh and its not just Tampa……….look at Jacksonville, and Miami………..same situation. Nobody is a true Floridian……….so there is no passion, loyalty, and Pride when it comes to our sports teams. This translates to the product on the field. Look at how much national attention we get from the Media. The freaking Giants, Steelers and Redskins were winless before week 3……..The media still thinks they are relevant. We are a Joke. Nobody cares about Tampa. When a big name free agent comes to Tampa in all of our sports……..they are just here collecting a check……..I.E. Desean Jackson, Revis, Grimes, Keyshawn Jackson, Albert Haysnworth, and so on. We are a joke of a sports town. Hell the Tampa Bay lightning, who are one of the best run organizations and successful hockey teams of the last half decade……..don’t even get mentioned on the NHL network, its always NY Rangers, Blackhawks, Islanders, Redwings, Maple Leafs, Bruins…………etc. All inferior teams but in much more viable sports markets. Before you hit me with why don’t you get out of here if you don’t like it…………….I love Tampa and I will never leave………but I am a realist. I will always be a fan of Tampa Sports teams because I belive you root for your home team…………even though I will not waste a dime on watching the Bucs play because it is a crappy product. ……………This is reality.

  19. Lamarcus Says:

I agree with Jmark. It started with gruden missing draft picks since he was here. No reason for Michael Clayton on the 15th pick. I’m still confused by that pick. It’s a gruden pick through and through. Then Dominick who I thought had some pretty talented teams in Bucs uniforms is better than Licht.

  20. Anonymous Says:

He’s gotta go. I said the same thing

  21. unbelievable Says:

It all starts at the top.

The Glazer children are simply incompetent when it comes to football.

And gimme a break about Dom. His record was 22 – 52, EXACTLY the same as Licht. And he had multiple seasons where we didn’t even make it to 5 wins. At least Licht only had 1 of those (and it was before he was actually in charge of anything).

Reality is they are both losers, who were good at some things and horrible at others.

  22. BigMacAttack Says:

Nothing drives JoeBucsFan traffic like the boys choking away a win. Yeah it sucks but Joe is laughing all the way to the bank. Seriously though it isn’t that bad at least not like last season. This can easily be fixed but you have to get a new kicker because this clown will cost you more games. He has one job to do and can’t do that. Defense is fine. Offense is fine. Special teams needs an overhaul and the kickers has to go now.

  23. MadMax Says:

Mr Licht DOES NOT need to be fired….he’s why BA is here who is why Mr Bowles is here….it takes time….just let the jit play out….hits and misses happen.

  24. Tye Says:

The Saints going into Seattle to play the Seahawks without Brees… Many thought they would lose and even expected it and likely would have accepted it… YET, they WIN!

The Panthers just looked bad their first 2 games and they play the Cardinals with a backup… Many saw it going either way.. if they would have lost it would have been, hey Cam is hurt so we’ll survive until he gets well… NO! With backup QB (Kyle Allen (WHO?) THEY WIN!

The Falcons struggle week 1, play well and beat the Eagles week 2 and play good (for o-line with holes) but lose by a few points to Colts backup, Jacoby Brissett (who?)

The Bucs putrid in the 1st game, scraped by in the 2nd but against the Giants who are one of the worst teams and starting a rookie in his first start, should have won.. LOSES!

Last in the NFCS until someone can evaluate talent from HC on down is brought in!

  25. Joe Says:

We are a joke of a sports town. Hell the Tampa Bay lightning, who are one of the best run organizations and successful hockey teams of the last half decade……..don’t even get mentioned on the NHL network, its always NY Rangers, Blackhawks, Islanders, Redwings, Maple Leafs, Bruins…………etc. All inferior teams but in much more viable sports markets.

TV networks have a very simple goal and there is nothing sinister about it. It is all about eyeballs. For example with the NFL Network you will see much more chatter on that outfit about the Steelers and Packers not because of the size of the market, it is that there are more fans of those teams that watch the network.

  26. Rayjay1122 Says:

Yeah, he is why BA is here but I am not so sure that is a good thing. Rich McKay was our last good GM.

  27. Petty Officer Buc Says:

We’ve been cursed. Not with Matt Bryant or Doug Williams, but during that final game in 2014 when Lovie pulled the starters and lost the game intentionally to the Aints just to guarantee the number 1 overall draft pick.

When you tank/lose intentionally, the football gods will punish you. Only question is will the Glazers allow a goat to be sacrificed at Ray Jay?

  28. ElioT Says:

    Kickers and BUST FA’s aside.

The entire secondary is loaded with premium drafts picks that couldn’t beat a rookie QB with a relentless pass rush. (Thank you Sack Barrett, you’re a Man on Fire).

How this guy got a 5 year extension is beyond me.

Seems pretty easy to take the Glazier’s guaranteed money.

    #lichtmyb*lls

  29. Adrnagy Says:

Imagine dee ford or frank clark with shaq vea and suh … Licht has been missing trades and picks.

  30. I know why Says:

Licht record is worse. Was before the season and still doesn’t have more wins. Dominik drafted three first team all pros. Licht zero, Allen zero. How about those Doug Williams/Bruce Allen Redskins tonight

  31. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

They had to finally fire Noah Spence to make room for SMLB, another dead 2nd round roster spot.

TKraz was just the 1st to pee on the Gumpster Fire!

  32. Rayjay1122 Says:

I saw the interviews with Arians. He gets this grin on his face and says no changes will be made at kicker. Makes me want to,kick him in the face on my TV. He has not suffered like us fans with the ineptitude of this franchise for over a decade. How dare he take this so lightly. Screwhim and Gump!

  33. snookman Says:

Game # 3 and people are already complaining about BA. Its a never ending vortex of failure with this team. Worst franchise in the history of Pro Sports……….its a fact.

  34. Destinjohnny Says:

Get a monkey to draft players and he will do better than Jason

  35. CPN Says:

[Given recent history, any linkage of a certain pyramid schemer to the Bucs isn’t wise. Sorry. — Joe]

  36. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

I was willing to give Licht Weight one last “chance” when he landed BA. Since then, he butchered the draft and drafted yet another kicker. Given Gay’s unfortunate history with anxiety/depression ( which is no joke )…how will he recover from this? Licht’s cavalier attitude and false bravado fueled by the Glazers’ inexplicable extensions of his contract are embarrassing. The Bucs are embarrassing and yet…here I am…and will continue to watch.

  37. Buc727 Says:

Just don’t let him draft any kicker, period. Also make him always trade out of the second round and we will be playing the SB in no time.

  38. Rayjay1122 Says:

The only way the Glazer owned Bucs will go to the Superbowl is if they are part of the halftime show.

  39. adam from ny Says:

the most amazing thing to me is that licht has finned out on that ron burgundy blazer he always sported…

    but…

it seems like he has actually passed it off to jameis – as jameis
is now often seen at his post game pressers offering up the
cheese-alicious ron burgundy sports coat…but with a crisp shirt and tie…

you’d think jameis would go for a smarter look than the ron burgundy movie garb…

especially after his gm wore it into the ground first…

    #WhoWoreItBetter #TheJameisAndLichtBurgundySheetShow

  40. adam from ny Says:

matt gay ruined everything for jameis, mike evans, and shaq yesterday…

he stole the thunder with his kicking blunder…

    #GayThunderBlunder

  41. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

This is why we can’t have nice things!

  42. westernbuc Says:

28-55 record over three coaches in 5 years. There is one common denominator in all this.

Licht is happy to celebrate when we beat a broken down Cam Newton on a short week but nowhere to be seen when his 2nd drafted kicker misses a field goal my dead grandmother could make. After his (2nd) coaching hire completely bungled an 18 point lead away.

I’m sorry, why does Licht get a blank slate? For hiring Arians? Stop making excuses for him. There was no reason to clean house without sending him packing. Complete waste of a year. I almost hope we have a fire sale and give away our great players. Lavonte and Evans deserve better than this.

  43. richbucsfan Says:

All this ink means absolutely nothing. Licht is going nowhere, the Bucs are going nowhere. It is what it is.

  44. BigZ Says:

Had season tickets for 16 years and when they fired Gruden and gave me Raheem Morris I knew they threw in the towel. As for the general manager he should have been gone two or three years ago. All you have to do is watch a dozen or so college football teams and you can scout talent from them is quite obvious, such as a handful of SEC teams, a couple of ACC teams a few Big Ten teams, Notre Dame, a few Big 12 teams and a couple pac-10 teams and that’s it. I watch a lot of college football and I say man that guy would be good for the Bucs and then do we ever draft him not really.

  45. D-Rome Says:

Backstabbin’ Jason Licht with all his hubris wasted another valuable pick on a kicker. Matt Gay was NOT the best player available at that moment. For his entire reign of terror he has REPEATEDLY overestimated the talent on this roster and Sunday’s performance PROVES it was not a coaching issue all these years. That’s not to say coaching hasn’t been a problem but it’s not the only problem.

This team is not talented enough whether via draft or free agency. The cap is a disaster and this team is not winning all thanks to the backstabber.

  46. Chip Chipperson Says:

Tkraz still has a job? Guess they don’t care about ratings.

  47. Doctor Stroud Says:

“I don’t care how many years you have left on your [contract].” If the Glazers give you a contract extension, that is a sure sign that you are about to be fired. Team Glazer has had multiple coaching staffs under contract. That’s just how they roll. Do they suffer from collective guilt? Are they trolling the fan base?

  48. nick Says:

Its clear Santos should have been kept over Gay, but no one was saying BOO when the decision was made.
Now, after. a barely missed by a foot kick, we’re panicking.

We don’t have a chance in this game if we don’t have Shaq (Sack) Barrett.Thats a pickup by licht.
Rookie abs making first start usually do have good games, you have no film on them. Its early the year, this Bucs team is a good one, give them time to work out the kinks.

And I don’t care about a fan who is ready to throw in the towel. I have been a Bucs fan. far longer than that guy, just as invested, I threw the towel in too many times. it’ll get better.

  49. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Steelers GM is a free Agent after this year…

Dude knows how to draft and worked with Arians before. Gotta keep that in mind as Bruce only hires people he’s worked with that’s how we got stuck with Leftwich

  50. Defense Rules Says:

Must say that reading comments to articles like ‘Jason Licht Needs To Be Fired’ is a GRRREAT way to start off a Tuesday … with a laugh. It’s hard to really pick a winner, but Lamarcus is leading the pack right now with his …

“Licht is not good at being a gm. You don’t bring in players to lose games.”

So simple and direct and to the point. Uhhh Lamarcus, do you REALLY think that JL drafts players with the SPECIFIC PURPOSE of losing games? If so, then I’d say he’s a pretty good GM. He met his goal.

  51. Tbbucs3 Says:

I hope the #FireLicht movement picks up steam. We’ve been calling for it for years and years now and it’s finally about time it happens. Dude consistent puts bad football teams on that field. Can’t even put together a mediocre average fb team.

  52. Dan Says:

Only the Glaziers would give a guy an extension who was 27-53. They love to reward loosing here in Tampa.

  53. Hodad Says:

We don’t have a kicking curse, we have a GM curse! Was Santos so bad last year we had to even draft a kicker? Bring in a vet to compete, but Santos was more then good enough. Licht made a problem where there was none. Some games are lost on missed FG’s, but Licht’s won, loss record shows it’s more about him not being able to field a good enough team. Licht should’ve never been hired, and should’ve been fired three years ago. Instead he was given a new contract by the three stooge Glazer boys.

  54. Anonymous Says:

Most fans wanted Licht replace.Well –you might have better luck flying a kite in a major hurricane.Save your breath —it will never happen.Truth—the team has improved–Jameis—errrr—not much better–more whispering needed.

  55. Pickgrin Says:

Idiots – the lot of you. Right there with TKraz…

    Over-react much Bucs “fanbase”????

  56. Isaac haggins Says:

I think Santos had a lot more value as your 53 rd ,as a second kicker to this team than another 53 rd ( proven) . For this team two kickers are necessary because Gay is a very valuable asset being able to make a 70 yard field goal ( strongest leg in the league ) . Gay struggles with the 3/4 easy kicking stroke and the answer is to kick 50 balls a day from the 5 yard line until you make all 50………….. the target is center beyond the posts .

  57. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

The common thread in the continued malaise is the Glazers…SELL the team

  58. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Pickgrin

Funny how you think the calls for Licht to be fired are a sudden reaction over 1 missed kick. Where have you been the last 6 years?

The Jason Licht trainwreck digs a lot deeper than 1 missed kick.

  59. Allbuccedup Says:

Glazers have to keep Licht because they have no clue. Their father was the only one that cared anything about football. When Arians retires this year they need him to find the next head coach.

  60. Pickgrin Says:

How about a reminder/comparison of Bucs drafting over the last 15 years then?

Bruce Allen drafted 3 good players in 5 years – Cadillac Williams, Davin Joseph and Aquib Talib – all 1st rd picks…

Mark Dominik drafted exactly 2 good players in 5 years – GMC and Lavonte David

Discounting 2019 draft because its way too early to judge – in 5 years Jason Licht has drafted Mike Evans, Jameis Winston, Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet, Kwon Alexander, OJ Howard, Chris Godwin, Kendall Beckwith (stud before his unfortunate car accident), Vita Vea, Carlton Davis, Jordan Whitehead…. signed UDFAs Brate, Humphries, Barber… Brought in FAs Barrett, Suh, Nassib – traded for Jason Pierre-Paul…..

  61. D-Rome Says:

    Pickgrin,

According to Joe it was Lovie Smith that drafted Evans, D. Smith, Marpet, Winston, Kwon, Brate, Humphries. Besides all that, I wouldn’t put Whitehead, Davis, or Nassib into any conversation of great Licht moves but it looks like this team has a keeper in Ronald Jones. I admit I was wrong, which is rare when it comes to this team.

  62. Brandon Says:

Licht sucks at finding kickers. True… but he found us Shaq Barrett… Evans, Godwin, Howard, Brate, Ronald Jones, and Peyton Barber… he also got us Humphries, Alexander, and other defenders that have played well. Blame the loss on Licht all you want… the kicker should’ve made the kick… the kick should’ve been from the 8 yard line, however, and that’s on Arians. Get to the LOS, spike the football, run a play to change the hash, not take a 5 yard penalty. His clock management has been disgraceful. He tried to lose the Carolina game with bad clock/timeout management.

  63. NO FEAR... Says:

    WHEN WILL THE BLEEDING STOP…….

  64. Buccfan37 Says:

Hear tell it everybody knows this is nowhere..

  65. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

People defending Licht Weight on here…calling it an overreaction no less…have extremely low expectations. I’d hate to see the jobs/spouses they’ve settled for. The ultimate football definition of a “give up slide”. You would have thought The Bucs won a Super Bowl vs Carolina with all the back slapping, chest bumping, full body hugs Licht handed out. That’s what winning 1 out of every 3 games looks like I guess. I’m no doubt hatin’ and trollin’ for expecting more with less embarrassment.

  66. widerightandleft Says:

    Joe,
There are over three million people in the greater bay market that’s 6 million eyeballs.
The way I see it is if you as a team win once in a while those eyeballs as well as others will watch.
Twelve sorry arse seasons in a row ! No excuses, and you cant blame the networks for not televising sub par football.

  67. JP Says:

Devin White has graded the lowest out of rookie class according to PFF. Another miss by Licht when able to choose Josh Allen instead… Licht is terrible

  68. Bnice Says:

LMAO the comments on here are hilarious.. JP is already calling White a “miss” because of PFF grading that take into affect missing games.. Licht has done a good job so far. You clowns need to go back to the circus where you find your phony information.

  69. Allbuccedup Says:

Bnice yes Licht has done a good job thats why we are in the playoffs every year. LMAO at these people defending a team GM that gets us a top 5 pick every year.
