Game 3

Giants (0-2) at Bucs (1-1)

Kickoff: 4:05 p.m.

TV: WTVT-TV Channel 13, DirecTV/NFL Sunday Ticket Channel 714.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region; 97.9 FM ESPN Radio in Tallahassee (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa); SiriusXM Channel 83.

Weather: Pretty awesome day, per AccuWeather.com. Tailgaters will enjoy weather in the mid- to upper-80s and by kickoff the temperature should be 90. That will be the high for the day. As the game rolls on, temperatures should slide back into the mid-80s, all under sunny skies.

Odds: Per the Mirage in Las Vegas, Bucs -5.5, O/U 48.

Outlook: Bucs icon Ronde Barber will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor at halftime. … Good teams beat bad teams. And the Giants are a bad team. Their defense is lousy, there are few offensive weapons other than running back Saquon Barkley and the Giants just benched franchise legend quarterback Eli Manning for Daniel Jones, who most draft analysts scoffed at when the Giants selected him No. 6 overall. Very few good teams bench their healthy starting quarterback in September. And very few good teams let a rookie quarterback making his NFL debut beat you. It is no more complicated than that. If the Bucs don’t play Santa Claus like they did two weeks ago against San Francisco, they possibly win that game. This is very much a winnable game if the Bucs don’t beat the Bucs. If the Bucs don’t give the game away, the Bucs should win. It would be nice for tight end O.J. Howard to get on track. He’s had the worst start to his NFL career. And aside from Chris Godwin, none of the Bucs’ skill position players have played good football. Yeah, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, played OK at Carolina. Bucco Bruce Arians brags about the running game but that sure hasn’t looked anything special to Joe. Again, just OK. Maybe. The offense seems to be sputtering and it sure isn’t moving the ball like it has in recent years. Joe just doesn’t see this being a high-scoring game. Joe expects Barkley to get his and maybe two touchdowns along the way. The only way Joe can see the Giants winning is from Bucs turnovers or Barkley goes bananas, which isn’t far fetched.

Trinkets:QB Daniel Jones (rookie) makes first career start. He was selected in first round (sixth overall) in 2019 NFL Draft. … RB Saquon Barkley had 135 scrimmage yards (107 rushing, 28 receiving yards and a rushing touchdown last week. Aims for his fourth in a row with at least 135 scrimmage yards. He had 152 scrimmage yards (142 rushing, 10 receiving yards) and 3 touchdowns (2 rush, 1 reception) in his only career game vs. Tampa Bay (November 2018). Barkley has 100-plus rushing yards in 3 of his past 4 road games. He has 2,302 scrimmage yards in 18 career games and needs 198 yards from scrimmage to tie Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson and Edgerrin James (19) for fastest to 2,500 scrimmage yards. … TE Evan Engram led the Giants in receptions (6) for second consecutive game. Aims for his third in row vs. Tampa Bay with at least 60 receiving yards. Looking for his for fourth in row on the road with 75-plus receiving yards. Engram leads all tight ends with 17 receptions in 2019. … WR Bennie Fowler tied his career-high with five catches in Week 2. … WR T.J. Jones had a touchdown catch last week. He is looking for his third game in row with a touchdown catch. … S Antoine Bethea led the Giants team with 10 tackles last week. Since 2016, he is one of two defensive backs (Landon Collins) with at least 300 tackles (305). … LB Marrkus Goldon had his 20th career sack in last week. He has a sack in 2 of his past 3 games. Golden had a sack in his only career game against the Bucs with came in September 2016. … LB Alec Ogletree had a pass defended last week. He had 15-yard pick-six in his last game against the Bucs. Ogletree is the only linebacker with 50 or more passes defended (53), 10 or more forced fumbles (12) and at least 10 picks (11) since 2013. … CB Janoris Jenkins looks for his third game in row against the Bucs with multiple passes defended. Since 2012, Jenkins is tied for third among defensive backs with 92 passes defended. … QB Jameis Winston had a touchdown pass last week. He has 5 touchdowns against the an interception in 3 career games against the Giants. Jameis has 13 touchdowns against 4 interceptions in his past five games against NFC East teams. He has 2 or more touchdown passes in 4 of his past 5 home starts. … RB Peyton Barber rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. He had 106 rushing yards and a touchdown in his last game against the Giants. … WR Mike Evans has 19 receptions for 337 yards (112.3 per game) and 2 touchdowns in 3 career games against the Giants. Evans looks for his third in row against the Giants with a touchdown catch. Since 2014, Evans is 1 of 3 WRs (scumbag Antonio Brown and Deandrea Hopkins) with 6,000 or more receiving yards (6,192) and 40 or more receiving touchdowns (40). … WR Chris Godwin set career-highs in catches (8) and receiving yards (121) and had a touchdown catch in Week 2. He has 4 receiving touchdowns in his past 3 games and 7 touchdown catches in his past 10 games at home. … TE Cam Brate had a touchdown catch in his last home game against the Giants (October 2017). Since 2016, Brate is 1 of 3 tight ends (Zach Ertz and Travis Kelce) with 20 or more receiving touchdowns (20). … LB Shaq Barrett had a career-high 3 sacks in Week 2. he is the first Bucs linebacker with 3 or more sacks in a single game since Broderick Thomas (September 1992). Barrett is looking for his third game in row with a sack. He also had a sack in only career game against the Giants (October 2019) while playing with Denver. … LB Lavonte David looks for his third in row against the Giants where he has eight or more tackles. Since 2014, David is 1 of 3 LBs (Chandler Jones and Khalil Mack) with 15 or more forced fumbles (16) and 15 or more passes defended (24). … CB Vernon Hargreaves had a career-high 12 tackles and a pass defended last week. Hargreaves looks for his fourth game in a row with a pass defended. … DT Ndamukong Suh had his fifth career fumble recovery last week.

  1. Tye Says:

Bucs showed a promising running game and a stingy defense to trust in and rely on..

The Giants start a rookie, poor o-line, no star receivers, only a skilled running back but poor defense..

Can the Bucs really lose this game?… It WILL NOT get any easier than this game for them to get a win this season!

  2. Jean Lafitte Says:

The Winston led Bucs haven’t won a home game in how long? ..and Vegas picks us by almost a TD?

    R.E.S.P.E.C.T BABY!!! Go Bucs!!!

I believe the Bucs win by 2 touchdowns or two scores.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Clean House … OK, you got me thinking, ‘When was the last time we won a game when we inducted a player into the Bucs Ring of Honor?’ According to Mr Google, there have been 12 Ring of Honor inductees to date. Check out the date they were inducted and our won-loss record in those games:

    1 – Lee Roy Selmon (8 Nov 2009) – Bucs beat Packers 38-28
    2 – John McKay (5 Dec 2018) – Bucs lost to Falcons 28-24
    3 – Jimmie Giles (4 Dec 2011) – Bucs lost to Panthers 38-19
    4 – Paul Gruber (14 Oct 2012) – Bucs beat Chiefs 38-10
    5 – Warren Sapp (11 Nov 2013) – Bucs beat Dolphins 22-19
    6 – Derrick Brooks (14 Sep 2014) – Bucs lost to Rams 19-17
    7 – Mike Alstott (4 Oct 2015) – Bucs lost to Panthers 37-23
    8 – Doug Williams (6 Dec 2015) – Bucs beat Falcons 23-19
    9 – John Lynch (3 Nov 2016) – Bucs lost to Falcons 43-28
    10 – Malcolm Glazer (5 Oct 2017) – Bucs lost to Patriots 19-14
    11 – Jon Gruden (18 Dec 2017) – Bucs lost to Falcons 24-21
    12 – Tony Dungy (24 Sep 2018) – Bucs lost to Steelers 30-27
    13 – Ronde Barber (22 Sep 2019)

We’ve got a lousy record in these ROH games in the past 5 years (1-6) but that’ll change today. No time like the present to start a win streak. Happy birthday BTW.

  17. Jeagan1999 Says:

This feels like one of those trap games where …on paper… the Bucs should win big, but too often in the past, they ended up beating themselves. Hopefully the defense shows up today, and the Bucs offense doesn’t turn the ball over. A win would give them some confidence moving forward.

IMO, this game could set the table for the rest of the season.

Lose to the Jints, and you have problems.

Win bigly and grow confidence. Kick ass and it could be the turn-around we’ve hoped for.

  24. July Joe Says:

Just watched Patrick Mahomes throw two passes right to the Ravens … the first the Ravens guy couldn’t catch … the second was picked by erased by a pass interference on a receiver not even involved in the play … then Mahomes throws a screen-pass TD … gotta love lucky bounces.

Then, right after the screen-pass TD I flip over to the Patriots game and watch as Tom Brady throws a stupid pass into triple coverage … somehow Josh Gordon skys over everyone and makes the catch … gotta love lucky plays.

I haven’t seen Jameis have one of those since the bomb to Humphries for a TD against the Cowboys a long time ago … but I have seen him have a bunch of unlucky bounces, like the OJ-Howard dropped INT this year.
