Five Things

Joe’s weekly Monday column looking back at this weekend’s game.

For the ages

Joe witnessed history in a historic stadium.

The Bucs have never scored 55 points. Until yesterday.

America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was on fire. Chris Godwin was always open. Mike Evans toyed with the Rams’ defense. The running game was solid. The offense line was — gasp! — dominant. It was the most complete offense Joe has ever seen from the Bucs.

It was worthy of an Olympiad championship in a facility that has hosted two Olympics.

Joe doesn’t know how the Bucs can improve on this offense. But what was interesting is Bucco Bruce Arians said he told his team at halftime not to let their foot off the gas, which is what happened last week against the Giants. (Arians also told them the same thing last week at halftime).

Joe is sure before the season few expected the Bucs to beat the Rams, which is why so many believed if the Bucs were not 2-1 through the first three games, the team was just about doomed as this gnarly road trip begins. Most folks expected the Bucs to be 2-2 after four weeks. And so they are, just not the way it was expected to happen.

The Bucs rang up 55 points on the road in the City of Angels against one of the greatest defensive minds in the game, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

So impressive, Joe is struggling for words.

Keeping Shaq

So Joe learned at Ira Kaufman’s World Tour of Buffalo Wild Wings in the Tampa Bay area yesterday, Bucs fans chanted “Pay the man, pay the man… ” a reference to Shaq Barrett.

Joe has a strong hunch, knowing oily Drew Rosenhaus reps Barrett, the slippery agent really wants Barrett to hit the open market. The way Barrett is playing, he is looking at $17 million a year.

The best way to keep Barrett? Re-sign Jameis.

If the Bucs get Jameis to sign a new contract, then that means Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht can use the franchise tag on Barrett for up to two seasons. And with a new CBA coming after the 2020 season, who knows how much the salary cap will go up? So it is likely the Bucs can buy time to sign Barrett by franchising him.

The way Jameis is playing, only his blind devout haters want to run him off.

The red brick wall

For those who habitually throw empty beer bottles upset about the offensive line, are you happy now?

The Bucs’ offensive line was, well, dominant. Who expected the great Aaron Donald to become such a non-factor? Who expected Jameis to barely be bothered to move a step or two when dropping back to pass? Who expected holes for Ronald Jones to run through so often?

If the Bucs offensive line keeps this up, this offense is going to be hard to beat.

And if you are not happy with the offensive line, Joe is guessing you will never get over your hangup about the line.

Chris Godwin: Stud

How many teams would Chris Godwin be a No. 1 receiver for?

Godwin just balls out each game and is getting better and better. And to think he has a bad hip and his status for yesterday’s game was in doubt. We should all be so hurt. He is now on pace for 104 receptions for 1,544 yards and 16 touchdowns this season.

Godwin is starting to turn into a receiver Arians molded in Pittsburgh, Hines Ward. The former Georgia quarterback turned into a dangerous, dependable receiver with the Steelers and a ferocious blocker. Godwin is becoming almost a carbon copy of Ward.

Godwin told Joe that he was determined to play yesterday. And he seemingly was open all day long. When is the last time the Bucs had a third-round pick become such a dependable, valuable player?

The Bucs are damn lucky to have him.

Suh-flex

You know what was fun in the play that sealed the win yesterday? Ndamukong Suh looked like the old Suh when he just tossed people around.

When Shaq Barrett forced a fumble of Jared Goff (a Goff Goof), Goff tried to recover the fumble and Suh looked like a classic grade school bully when he tossed Goff aside, grabbed the ball and raced to the end zone.

When was the last time we saw a No. 93 make such a play to seal a win? Probably not since the Bucs beat the Chiefs in Kansas City in 2016, when Gerald McCoy tipped an Alex Smith pass that fan favorite Chris Conte picked in the end zone, locking up a key Bucs win.

Joe sure hopes we see a few more plays like that from Suh.

Bonus Item No. 1

Joe is a big believer in building up draft picks. Draft picks are the lifeblood of a team. But when a team demonstrates time and again it cannot draft a decent player at a certain position and that position is liable to bring a team down, then it is time to start trading picks to get proven players at the position.

The Bucs’ secondary is horrendous. It is Mike Smith bad. Just brutal beyond words. Now on paper, yeah, Jalen Ramsey would be a good addition. But there is something about this Ramsey guy that screams “Malcontent Jackson.” If a team is willing to trade a young talent like Ramsey, then there is a helluva lot going on behind the scenes than we know, and that may be too much baggage for Joe to stomach. The Jags are not tanking.

There has to be someone out there that can play corner.

Look, when a team goes up 45-27 in the fourth quarter and still is biting their collective fingernails hanging onto a shaky lead because the defensive backs can’t cover receivers, you’ve got a problem. A major problem.

Would it be nice to get Ramsey? Sure, on face value. But Joe has to believe there are a couple of decent corners available that could be had without giving up an arm and a leg, guys who would be an upgrade over what the Bucs have now.

Joe’s trip to Los Angeles

A bonus item!

Joe took off early to Los Angeles because to take in a few things because Joe has never been to the city before as a tourist.

Joe did a bucket list item by finding Curly Howard’s grave and paying respect to a man who had given countless hours of humor, entertainment and escapism to the world. Curly’s grave, though he passed some 67 years ago, was perhaps the most decorated grave in the cemetery, which speaks to his lasting impact on society.

Then Joe took a tour of Warner Bros. studios. Joe’s not a huge movie guy but that was fun as could be. Joe knew it would be a good tour when the second item of interest from the tour guide was a site where a scene from “Blazing Saddles” was filmed.

There was even a warehouse that would have been Gerald McCoy’s dream come true. It housed three Batmobiles, a Batmotorcycle, and a 12-foot statue of Batman. Visitors even got to shine the Batlight on the ceiling that had a Gotham skyline backdrop. Joe strongly recommends this tour. It was so fun.

The main reason Joe went was, of course, the Bucs. And Joe wanted to visit the historic Los Angeles Coliseum. Carl Lewis ran there. Knute Rockne and John McKay coached there. Sandy Koufax pitched there. Deacon Jones crushed quarterbacks there. O.J. Simpson ran there, Mary Decker bawled there. If the walls could talk, man.

It is a way cool stadium. And Joe got to watch history there with the Bucs racking up 55 points.

It was the Bucs’ final appearance at the grand old stadium. The Rams’ new stadium opens next season. What a way to go out.

Between visiting Curly’s grave, the trip to Warner Bros. and seeing the Bucs rock the Rams on a field that just oozes sports history, it was a helluva weekend for Joe he won’t soon forget.

I have but 1 critique aimed squarely at Mike Evans. Please sir… Stop the Pre-TD theatrics and act like you’ve been there before. Because you have, A LOT. The play speaks for itself, the showboating does too.

  2. TheCollegeBuc Says:

    Hey Joes,
I will eat my words. Jameis is looking hot. Sorry I attacked you guys earlier this year. I think we all know how stressfully this team can be. Looking forward to more coverage from you two and Ira this year! Hopefully there are no hard feelings. Also I’m graduated and actually think I took too many classes lol. Will go by “TheAcccountantNeer” from now on.

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

Agreed. We simply cannot sustain putting up these kind of points to cover for an awful secondary. They did, however, make just enough plays to help us win.
Shaq is the edge rusher we have been craving since the Simeon days. It would be a travesty if we couldn’t figure out a way to retain him.

  4. Coburn Says:

Yeah I love me some Evans, but it seemed a bit much. Just play man. As for offense, I guess those saying just give them a couple games to gel hit the nail on teh head. I’m sure we’ll still have the odd game that’s a head scratcher but seems like going forward we can expect to put up a lot of points. Wish we had that offense the first couple of games.. man. Just need to get defense playing like they did those first two games.. although one might think we’re sorta exposed in passing game now…. trial by fire?

  5. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

No problem with what Mike Evans did while scoring because Marcus Peters is a punk and was probably running his mouth all game at evans and evans just reminding peters and the NFL that evans is top 3 WR in the NFL and to let the NFL Dbs and peters know to keep their mouths shut when playing against him and the bucs

  6. Hodad Says:

McCoy, if you were watching, that’s how a real DT pro bowler ends a game. Not by being pushed into the end zone for the go ahead score. Let me add thing six Joe. These are the maddening Bucs. World beaters one week, losing to rookie QB’s the next. Time for this team to make it’s mark. Want to be a contender, and not a pretender? Beat N.O. at their house too. Beat two playoff teams in a row, then go to London, and beat a team you already beat. Fingers crossed, but I’m not popping the cork after just one upset win.

  7. Christopher Schiefen Says:

You’re forgetting about Patrick Peterson. You know Bruce wants him.

  8. #1bucsfan Says:

Sounds great joe glad you had a good time let’s go Bucs #endthedrought

  9. ChanEpic Says:

Agree to disagree Dusthty Rhothdes. Not because what you’re saying isn’t true, but Mr. Evans is now a vet, a role model in that locker room. The example he should set, IMHO, is the same on field demeanor that Tom Brady and other elite players display. The elite don’t need to showboat but again, that’s just my opinion and if that gives Evans the edge, so be it.

  10. Ryanbucsfan Says:

Can Dean please get healthy! Hargreaves just can’t survive on the outside!! Give Dean a shot! I’d even say give Ryan Smith the nod over Hargreaves out there! He just doesn’t have the speed or size to hold up on a regular basis!

  11. miken Says:

Cool weekend Joe…. Glad it was a great trip.
With godwin we have 2 pro bowl 1 wrs. Before the season started, I didn’t think rojo belonged on an nfl roster, damn does he look good too. I thought we would be 2-2 at this point with 2 home road wins and 2 road losses… we might be catching the saints at the right time after their big win last night.

  12. JabooBuc Says:

Umm, I know how you can improve this offense and JW to boot. Do it consistently. JW is famous for his highs and lows. His ceiling is greatness but his floor is a bum. He still has too many San Fran/Cincy games for us all to feel comfortable giving him $30 M a year.

I do hope that the BA can help even him out and thus far he seems to be showing improvement. Now, can he make it so that he is not the worry each week? Time will tell.

  13. FortMyersDave Says:

Just win baby and keep your foot on the ****ing gas!! That is the mantra Bucco Bruce needs to be instilling into this young team. True, the secondary is as porous as Swiss cheese but if the O can control the clock and find the end zone (not just the red zone) a few times than the Bucs have a decent shot at knocking of a Bree-less Aints team and the early Vegas lines opened at NO by 6.5 but that line has already been bet down to 5 indicating some love for our Buccos. Seeing what the ATL did yesterday makes it safe to say that the dirty birds are now the worst team in the division (curse of Dirk or simply the fact that the ATL was not much better than the Bucs last season and did not really improve their roster?) and the Bucs have a legit shot at being relevant deep into the season for the first time since 2016. BTW, nice bounceback game for Gay, after last week I thought he could go Catzanaro but he performed admirably yesterday which does not atone for his contribution to the disgusting loss to the G Men but its a start, I just hope he doesn’t jake another chip shot or XP this season…..

  14. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

SMH….after 3 TDs last week and no game win…let the guy have a little fun…sheesh! NoOne deserves it more!!!

Maybe he didn’t need to use the theatrics…..but keep in mind he was running out the clock…..he probably had another 5-10 seconds he could have run…..so, ultimately it was a smart play.

  16. BUC CHEEKS Says:

My exact words from last week!!!!!!!!! DONT TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS!!!!!!!!! PEDAL TO THE METAL BABY!!!!!!! THATS JUST MADE MY DAY.

  17. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Good on you, Joe! Sounds like a glorious weekend…much deserved. You’ve needed a stiff upper lip and granite chin to navigate the pewter pirate ship this last decade +. Happy for you, Sir…

  18. danr Says:

that corner deserved the dancing mike evans did. He went to the sideline when Mike was still on like the 10.

You quit on a play like that, and you deserve to be mocked. Dont want him to mock you, dont quit on the play.

  19. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Joe

Congrats on a successful trip and way to return with an historic win!

BTW Blazing Saddles is one of my all time faves…favorite scenes cowboys sitting around the campfire eating beans and farting(loudly and frequently) and ask…”More beans Mr. Taggart”
“No boys I believe you’ve had enough beans”. Just thinking about that scene makes me laugh.

And for DB55…2nd favorite scene was when Cleavon Little is introduced at the new sheriff in an incredibly racist town and their reaction when they see he’s black. And Little’s great line…Where are the white women at?

DB55 How long do you play at CW Post? Did you like life out on the Island. I didn’t get there. Of course main campus in the heart of Brooklyn there was just too much to do in “The City”.

Used to spend 20 cents to get on the IRT or BMT subway…ride to the old Gardens and pay a whopping two bucks to sit in the top two rows to see the Rangers. Besides not getting tickets for the Rangers..two bucks wouldn’t buy a coke or pack of gum now.

  20. ChanEpic Says:

Tampabaybucfan you and another poster made that point, and yeah it’s a good one. I hadn’t considered the clock during that play.

  21. passthebuc Says:

what does keeping Barrett have to do with signing JW.

  22. Aceofaerospace Says:

Hopefully last weeks embarrassment was what was needed to wake up the offense to never let up. There’s no such thing as running up the score in professional sports. Please Jameis, please be the franchise quarterback we need. One last thing, does the schedule look a lot more winnable now? Or is it just my wanting it to be?

  23. Snook Says:

Hang on a second… don’t the Rams have “great” corners? What’d they do yesterday?

The Bucs secondary will be just fine. Its 2019 in the NFL. QBs will throw for 400-500 yards now. Get used to it. But going and trading for Ramsey doesn’t change anything other than add a malcontent who truly only plays for the money. And that comes from an FSU fan.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

If our DBs are bad, I wonder what you think of the rams DBs because they got lit up by a offense that was 5-11 last year…..

Our DBs are still developing and learning how to play in this system….they’ll get better….rams WRs ain’t lousy…..they were just in the SB….

    GO BUCS

  25. tmaxcon Says:

    813bucboi

please accept my condolences you were so high on that little fella impersonating a CB and he flat out sucks….. He is “The Receiver Chaser” not the cover guy that you hoped for.

  26. Joe Says:

what does keeping Barrett have to do with signing JW.

A lot. Pretty sure Bucs were going to use the tag on Jameis. Now they probably would rather use it on Shaq. Explained in story why you don’t want him testing the market. Also, we don’t know if Shaq is a fluke which is why the tag could be two more prove-it years. Can’t tag Shaq if you tag Jameis.

  27. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

you need to throw your whipping boy Gholston a nice post

Barrett and Suh have quadrupled the 4th gtr plays in 4 games that cancer93 had in 9 years…. One day joe you will have to tell us why you blindly kissed cance93’s arse and never once were objective about her play.

  28. Buc4evr Says:

And Talib wouldn’t have rubbed it in given the chance? Let big Mike showboat, like Bucs get this type of play all the time. Let’s win and win big and rub it in every chance. Look at all the teams that do it to us, screw’em. Lol.

  29. Defense Rules Says:

One of the wonderful things about winning is that everyone gets to praise the obvious, and oh ya, to make trite statements. So the ‘Bucs’ secondary is horrendous’? As in like it’s ‘Mike Smith bad’? And oh ya, ‘just brutal beyond words?’ Really Joe?

After 4 games, we have the #4 ranked offense and #30 ranked defense in terms of POINTS SCORED & POINTS ALLOWED. Wow, that’s ‘Mike Smith bad’. Oh wait, Bucs have allowed 117 points, of which 27 were off of Pick-6s from the Bucs’ OFFENSE. So the DEFENSE has given up 90 points in 4 games (22.5 PPG). Last year through 4 games our defense had given up 139 total points … 34.8 PPG. Hmmm, 2019 looks quite a bit better to me. Certainly not ‘Mike Smith bad’.

But dig a little deeper still. Bucs this year have allowed opposing QBs to complete 111 passes out of 182 attempts (61.0%) for 5 passing TDs. Last year through 4 games, opposing QBs completed 121 passes out of 177 attempts (68.4%) for 13 passing TDs. Somehow me thinks this year’s defense, including our Secondary, is doing quite a bit better.

Last year our defense had 8 sacks & 5 turnovers through 4 games. This year we have 11 sacks and 9 turnovers to our credit. Hmmm, I wonder who benefitted most from those turnovers. Maybe our offense because we’ve been converting them to POINTS SCORED that get credited to the OFFENSE? Just a hunch mind you.

Todd Bowles’ Secondary is playing with a bunch of inexperienced youngsters. The most experienced of the lot … Vernon Hargreaves … is the proverbial ‘weak link’ in the group (followed closely by MJ Stewart as of late). Both make lots of tackles, and it’s not hard to figure out why … they’re both too SLOW to keep up with elite receivers. And I’ll be glad when Devin White gets healed up, because he SHOULD be much better in coverage than Kevin Minter because of his speed.

And BTW, Bucs defense was on the field for 98 defensive snaps yesterday. Our woeful Secondary played almost the entire game … Edwards (98 snaps), Davis (98 snaps), VHIII (96 snaps), Whitehead (92 snaps), MJ Stewart (90 snaps). SMB, D Stewart & Bucannon contributed another 19 snaps back there. Looks like the first 5 are being asked to pretty much play the whole game. 98 defensive snaps, wow. Wonder if they were pooped out by the time the game ended. Hmmm, also wonder if that was why they seemed to be allowing a bit more ‘cushion’ as the game went on. Oh well, Rod Munch must be happy today; Ryan Smith just finished his suspension (sorry, couldn’t resist Rod).

  30. Rads Says:

    Passthebuc,

Franchise tag needs to still be an option when negotiating with Jameis or he’ll have us over the barrel.

I have but 1 critique aimed squarely at Mike Evans. Please sir… Stop the Pre-TD theatrics and act like you’ve been there before. Because you have, A LOT. The play speaks for itself, the showboating does too.

    —————–

I fully believe that he was not showboating but trying to run down the clock. These games often come down to the last few seconds. With a lead like the Bucs had, Evans was playing smart football. I wish he had stopped and stood at the corner before the endzone before stepping in right before somebody hit him to waste more time. That’s called smart football.

  34. tmaxcon Says:

let Evans showboat playing for the worst franchise in sports history does not give him the opportunity to showboat very often….. remember these players and this team are the laughingstock of the sports world let them have some fun when they are not embarrassing themselves…..

  35. DB55 Says:

Jameis isn’t re-signing with the Bucs. At least I hope not. He owes this team zero loyalty. Zero.

It would be the absolute worse decision of his football career.

Find someone else to score 55 points to win a game or 36 for that matter.

  36. Pugs&Bucs Says:

Just to put something in perspective: it’s not giving up 40 points. It’s giving up 40 points, while only giving up 17 yards rushing, with 3 ints and a strip-sack fumble. Literally ALL THEY DID WAS THROW.

  37. TampaTown Says:

Joe hoping you could give a shout-out to all the Buc fans at the Coliseum. I was wondering if it was a lot of people who made the trip like yourself or mostly the West Coast Bucs Fan Club. Either way is was awesome to see!

  38. stpetebucsfan Says:

    DB55

“He owes this team zero loyalty. Zero.”

Zero? Really. I get your hurt feefees over posters dissing JW.
But you get carried away bro.

I was pleased to at least see you give some credit to the OL.

Meanwhile how about credit for Buc’s management. So they spent months sorting through the MAJOR mess JW had made of his life off field in Tallahassee. They did their due diligence…determined JW was just immature…and then Licht put his ENTIRE rep on the line by using a #1 draft pick.

So they signed him in spite of rape and other allegations…some bogus some valid. And how does JW repay their loyalty?

During his first off season he goes out with two known bad actors…one who is in prison now for what charge…RAPE…the very allegations hurled at JW! He’s so drunk he does not remember what happened…according to him.

Forget the Uber mess and suspension that followed. I don’t know what happened. But where he was…his drunken condition..in his FIRST off season after facing rape allegations is just mind numbing. It’s in the category of run Forrest run.

If after all that you think he owes the Bucs no loyalty…I’m not sure I’d want to be in the foxhole with you. But hey YMMV

I’m happy JW has put his life together! According to reports JW struggled with immaturity and perhaps a drinking problem. Now that he’s a mature family man as a snowflake I’m thrilled for him. We all LOVE stories of redemption. And that’s all personal. I’m genuinely happy for JW the man not just the football player.

As a Buc’s fan of course I’m glad he’s grown and is now able to actually use his obvious talents.

Just so you understand…I’m from the D.R. school…it’s a team game…no JW didn’t lose all those games but he certainly did his part…he didn’t win yesterday’s game but he certainly did his part. He has the talent and now hopefully his head is on straight and he benefits from the improved coaching.

  39. Reach87 Says:

Winning football. Team football. Complimentary football. We have to enjoy the WIN today and make adjustments for next game. It appears (and I hope its true) the missing link from the past years (making adjustments week to week and game to game and series to series) has been addressed, such that we have a chance to win every game. As the coaches said in their pre-game news conferences before this game when asked about Donald and the vaunted Rams special teams and Gurley, “we have a plan…we’ll be alright.” You have to do that week to week. If we keep it up in that area and stay healthy, we will continue to have a good chance to win (despite fake fans who bet against the team…oh, got it…you have a right). Players still have to make plays, but it starts with a good, focused updated and comprehensive plan. Go Bucs!

  40. Buc1987 Says:

Pugs&Bucs…that’s kind of what I’ve been thinking about. Everyone keeps worrying about the secondary (perhaps they should?)but they were facing an onlsaught of passes yesterday. Like 70 attempts right?

I think fans need to lighten up on this young kids.

And Teddy Bridewater aint no Jared Goff. Quit worrying.

  41. Buc1987 Says:

    Yikes more typos than Joe…

  42. D1 Says:

    Defense,

Question, are you suggesting that turnovers and takeaways have some sort of role in winning or losing?

If you say , the turnover margin is as important as kicking, sacks, pressure , running game, Pass protection, coaching , pre 25th Yr old yardage totals and completion percentage is right up there along witg air yds/attemps. And let’s not overlook the importance of selecting former players and HOF”ers with nu,mbersthat appear similar to our current QB. But it’s not possible to win with historically bad defense, special teams and no running game. So I don’t know how much more clear cut it could be.

Wins are somehow related to our connect somehow into the teams w , l columns. ……I don’t know. …about that.

The numbers seem pretty convincing but you know what they say about stats.
    Seriously, what do they say?

  43. Cobraboy Says:

    I thought Barrett has a one-year deal.

How do you franchise a free agent?

  44. D1 Says:

    Buc1987,

The secondary isn’t terrible. Inexperienced players, new scheme and inconsistent lineups is responsible for many of the breakdowns . its 4 games into the season if The same players can lineup week to week things will improve.

Last week and the almost every other week for 6mos everyone was positive the offensive line was going to be horrible, Cappa needed to lineup at tackle, if he had a prayer of remaining in the league. The fact was licht was going to sign 3 veterans at the absolute latest final cut down day and the roster in July wasn’t even close to what it would be opening day. Add a pro bowl vet running back and that’s what we heard all summer long.

I’m suggesting that as right as the those statements turned out, why listen to the those same experts today about the secondary. They havent been right and reading the comments don’t appear be coached up on this positional group either.

  47. Defense Rules Says:

D1 … Just a thought. MAYBE, just MAYBE, IF your team is winning the turnover battle AND controlling the clock, then MAYBE you’re playing some good football as a TEAM? Seems like (just my opinion now) that IF you’re winning the turnover battle, then TWO things are going right. FIRST, you’re forcing your opponent to cough up the ball (INTs, Fumbles, whatever). SECOND, your TEAM is NOT coughing up the ball as much. And that’s a very good thing.

Could say similar ‘stuff’ about TOP, but feel free to connect the dots on that one. BTW, I HOPE you were being facetious about stats. Believe it or not, they DO TELL A STORY in the big scheme of things.

  48. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

“The numbers seem pretty convincing but you know what they say about stats.
    Seriously, what do they say?”

They say there are small lies, there are big lies and then there are statistics.

@chanepic After Peters took himself out of the camera shot so he wouldn’t be heckled on social media, Evans had no obligation to stop the clock by scoring quickly.

@joe Next time in LA visit the Peterson Automotive Museum on Wilshire or on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, you can literally visit Valhalla, The Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard. They concentrate on the Art Deco Era of French cars of the 1930’s. Featuring a Bugatti Atlantique and many others. You can check it out on Youtube.

  49. DB55 Says:

Look up the video of Mayfield’s arrest and tell me if that was Winston he would have been pick #1 overall.

Allegations were all proven wrong by professionals and by judges mostly importantly by the medical examiner. The Uber incident is inconsistent at best based on the texts sent by the accuser.

If anything Winston took that suspension in order to appease certain people imo it was the wrong thing to do.

It’s a lengthy discussion that requires cited sources for argument sake and this is not the time nor place. But your certainly entitled to your position.

  50. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

  53. ChanEpic Says:

Hey everyone, I wasn’t THAT mad at Evans and his Pre-TD tom foolery, but the point being made is a great one. If he’s going to do that to eat clock, I’m all for it too. I can be swayed with a good argument.

  54. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

Thanks for the clarification on Mike Evans showboating, Dusthty. When do you ever see Mike behaving like that? Never. I knew there had to be something that had been going on during this game that led to it.

I invite some of you to to go listen to Winston post game press conference at Buccaneers.com. You will be able to “read between the lines ” regarding a couple of his remarks’ about Evans and Godwin’s games.

Never played at CS post came to Tampa instead. I got tired of the cold.

  57. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I had no issue with Evans doing what he did, however, the refs might next time. He stopped forward progress and it appeared like unsportsmanlike conduct.

Imagine if they had called a penalty there and we ended up not scoring. Not really worth it then, huh?

And you know the refs hate us.

  58. THETRUTH Says:

You guys don’t understand what Evans was doing if I was him I would have stood at goal line longer he was wasting clock and peters had ran to other side of field. We scored quick and needed to use clock also so he probably could have killed another 20 seconds before they realize it. It’s ame as falling at 1 yard line and not going out of bounds.

Plus I’m sure Peters was talking smack most of game he is suppose to be the best in the game.

You guys cry when the buc players are nice and complain when show swag and attitude.

  59. Zeusdach Says:

Is the secondary bad, or is Bowles just blitzing so much that someone is always open? Later into each game, I feel like we’re blitzing more, more, more and thats why the Giants / Rams were finding open receivers. I LOVE this new style of defense but maybe we need dial it back just a bit.

  60. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Brandon/Truth

Exactly, I wish he would have stood there longer as well, but I suppose you run the risk of some penalty happening, with players coming on to the field from the bench…not exactly sure how that works..

And I do think he was showboating a little, but so what. He was skipping and hopping cuz he actually got some YAC……

Other than Whitehead, IMHO they are pretty bad. VHIII particularly.

Wise decision. Long Island in the winter can be brutal.

Where did you grow up? Here?

  63. Clw JB Says:

I blasted the RG position and thought Dotson was washed up, but they have responded rather nicely

ROJO was just on fire yesterday, two poorly called penalties or he has 150 yds

plus almost 400 passing – we saw the fire of the BA system yesterday called to perfection by the OC

    Hats off

Hell must of froze over, the Kobe clowns posted something that wasn’t anti bucs

  65. Alanbucsfan Says:

Jones and Goff are good qb’s and Rams offense is top 5 of NFL.
If we get solid Jameis, Bucs beat the Saints. Jameis is better than Bridgewater when he is on.
This is Bowles’ defense-stop the run, blitz, get turnovers, get burned sometimes.
Davis may develop into an elite corner- this is secondary’s 1st year under Bowles.
Bucs are stopping the run- most important- gives D more opportunities for turnovers. Vea , Suh and Barrett are playing at pro bowl level.

  66. Jean Lafitte Says:

It could have been to our advantage anyway had Evans been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. They would have tacked 15 yards onto the extra point try. Right in Gay’s range.

Do I sound like I grew up here. I grew up in NY. Newburgh to be exact.

  68. Buc96NYC Says:

I think the Bucs should try to go after Patrick Peterson. Arizona said they weren’t gonna trade him before they went 0-3-1 LOL. I think they need to start rebuilding & things have changed. Call your good friend Steve over @ Arizona & get Peterson over here now; as he still has to miss 2 games.

That means he has to bye week to brush up on things & work out the rust.
