Caleb Benenoch Waived

September 9th, 2019

No reason to smile.

UPDATED 7:12 p.m. – So this is an interesting move.

Caleb Benenoch, who is a tackle but proved to be one of the worst right guards in the NFL, didn’t even make it to Week 2 for the Bucs, which comes Thursday night.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bucs have washed their hands of the backup tackle/lousy guard.

We will see how much of a market there is for Benenoch. But the question is, who did the Bucs sign or will sign? Or are the Bucs swinging a trade? ProFootballTalk.com says veteran backup tackle Josh Wells, who was cut by the Jaguars 10 days ago, is en route to Tampa.

(It’s safe to say Jason Licht’s conversation with former Bucs guard Ian Beckles didn’t have legs.)

The Bucs don’t have any decent backups at tackle. Earlier in training camp, Bucco Bruce Arians openly groused about how the team was not developing young tackles. Guess he gave up on Benenoch fairly early.

Enjoy watching a guy who cannot find a job school Benenoch in training camp back in July. Both are now former Bucs.

  1. Bucs Fan Says:

Thought they signed a tackle that played with Jags

  2. tmaxcon Says:

should not the headline be Dotson waived oh wait i forget Dotson gets a free pass while benenoch gets all the blame.

  3. Hodad Says:

Bucs signed tackle Josh Wells, and also placed safety Justin Evans on IR, so there you have it Joe. Benenoch sucks, but at least he’s younger then Dotson who also sucks. Evans has made a nice living on IR, only with the Bucs baby can you make so much by doing so little.

  4. Joe Says:

Bucs signed tackle Josh Wells, and also placed safety Justin Evans on IR, so there you have it Joe.

    Thanks!

  5. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

We gave our GM an extension….. I’ve been a Bucs optimist and Licht apologist through all of our suffering…. But no more! We are a DUMPSTER FIRE. BURN IT DOWN AND START OVER.

  6. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

A year too late, but Buc’s logic tells me this guy is a future Pro-Bowler.

Hopefully this is BA sending a message without losing actual talent on the roster.

  7. Buc believer Says:

    About DAMN time!!!

  8. NPRSageBoy Says:

This is happening a year too late. I suspect both Dotson and Crappa will follow shortly

    Let the dumpster diving continue…..

  9. knucknbuc Says:

didnt lying licht say like 3 weeks ago he was getting alot of trade interest for benonoch. hmmmm… sure he was

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

I can’t really defend Dot any longer, he gave us a good run. The tank looks to be empty. Benenoch is a lot younger and couldn’t beat him out, that tells you all you need to know about his chances.

  11. Rojas Says:

Too bad Dotson didn’t follow him out the door.

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Jason Licht been put on waivers yet? NOS BOS you still got internet or did jameis get that intercepted too

  13. lowercaseg Says:

    There is a God.

  14. Bird Says:

    “That boy good ..he good…”

    “Uhhhmmmhmmm. Good and terrible “

Adios Caleb. Don’t get another QB killed

  15. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

I don’t get it! I thought that once the season starts, their salaries are locked in.

That gives them no cap relief at all.

    Tell me I’m wrong.

You mean they couldn’t see this coming a week ago?

    SMFH!!

  16. Pancake block Says:

Jerald Hawkins better get up to speed toot suite

  17. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

watching the texans and saints is very refreshing compared to that crap the bucs throw out each week

  18. Season Is Over Says:

Why would he generate real interest if he is useless on the Bucs? What would he bring to another team the Bucs are unable to get out of him? Why would Arians and Leftwich wait until now to put the team in a bind? This is more BS to use as excuses. I’m beginning to wonder if Arians was even at training camp. How can this team be a laughingstock once again? Jason Licht is the worst GM in professional sports.

  19. ElioT Says:

Time to give Jason a lifetime contract!

    He’s earned it.

What in the holy hell is going on here?

    #epicfailure

  20. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Season Is Over that made me laugh, but I agree, the bucs hired a coach that didnt want to coach. Then tell him to pack sand. This franchise is a joke

  21. Anonymous Says:

Can someone tell me…if Evans place was taken by wells, who will take Benenioch’s place? Sounds like we have an open roster spot on the 53.

  22. mark2001 Says:

So if Wells replaces Evans on the 53, who replaces Benenoch? Sounds like we have an open roster spot.

  23. Lamarcus Says:

I thought Licht he could get a draft pick for him? Did he forget to trade him?

  24. SteveK Says:

Seriously thinking that a JBF contingent of fans could be at least equal to if not much greater at attaining winning results than the “professionals” calling the shots! lol!

  25. mark2001 Says:

Don’t think so, StevK. But maybe with the new HC in town, we can finally evaluate talent, build a D, and straighten out the mess created over the last almost twenty years.

  26. TOM Says:

WOW! Finally some good news. Its kind of funny that the Bucs org. finally decided to get rid of Bennoch something the fans knew two years ago. Makes you wonder. Now how long will it be before they realize that Dotson & JW need to go. The fans know.

  27. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Lamarcus

All your getting for Caleb Bennoch is a pretzel and some doughnuts.

    Licht sucks

  28. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Jason Licht cycle never ends

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Woe is me!

Two roster spots created. One filled. Someone else must be on the radar.

  30. mark2001 Says:

BB…exactly what I was speculating about in the post about fifteen minutes ago.

  31. mark2001 Says:

So who can we sign for a few million in cap space we created in the Evans restructuring? Unless we have Dotsons replacement on the roster, that is the first place I’d look.

  32. Jarhead Says:

It would be so awesome if the Saints lose tonight. It would basically mean a fresh start to the season as all NFC South teams would be 0-1!!!!

  33. Sport Says:

BA will either fix you or fire you. Pay attention JW, DD, DS!!!

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust

  34. The Buc Realist Says:

What happened to the “coaches are going to coach them up”????????? Seems like all they are doing is replacing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on the sheep that said it was all coaching for Tampa’s problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real’ fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. Echase Says:

2020 draft licht drafts 4 more slow DB’s. Worst GM in the nfl. Will be 2-14 and still in salary cap hell.

  36. Billy_45 Says:

    @Echase
    What?

He drafted literally the fastest DBs.

We are talking about O Line here.

Yes Licht is an idiot but not there.

  37. Jason Licht sucks and Bruce Arians is WAY overrated Says:

The dude with the ridiculous hat is just here for extra loot for retirement and Jason Gump ISNT the dumbest GM in the league he’s the smartest. Hell he got a 5 year extension with the WORST record in the league! THATS pretty damn smart!!

  38. WestChap Says:

Joe, given the difference in accrued years (CB at 3, DD at 10) does cutting CB create cap space while cutting DD would not? All very confusing…

  39. 1sparkybuc Says:

Bailey coming up from the PS?

  40. DB55 Says:

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That actually made me laugh out loud

  41. MadMax Says:

My God its so nice to watch a REAL QB make great throws with fast decision making, even on the run in Brees…we need a brees type of player!

  42. DB55 Says:

I talked to Steve Young and Doug Williams today and they said JW is garbage and should be cut. Maybe he can find a back-up spot on another team. They said they weren’t good enough to play in Tampa and neither is JW.

Then Dilfer called but I ignored his call.

  43. Capt. Tim Says:

Surprising that our Gigantic, crack coaching staff- didn’t notice that we don’t have a Rt, or backup Rt, until now

Of course- they failed to notice our lack of a QB, too!
Or LT, after the way Smith played.
    At least Cappa looked good.
We got 2 guards, a center.
    And thats about it

  44. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

MadMax…. Watson is friggin outstanding too

  45. DB55 Says:

    Mad max

How many times has breeds been sacked, concussed, hit or pressured?

I see the RBs have 100 yards on 10 carries. And his defense is playing well.

    Any blocked punts?

Help me out I’m not watching thanks.

  46. DB55 Says:

Cappa looked good? Omg wtf are ya watching. Smh

  47. MadMax Says:

He was under pressure and running when he threw that last TD, about 25 yards.

  48. MadMax Says:

Lol, and he’s 40 yrs old!

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Speaking of worthless offensive lineman, for those with NFL Gamepass, go watch the coaches film on the 3rd INT thrown by Winston. The stupid angry ginger Jensen runs out and picks Dare, totally blowing up the play. I have never liked that dummy, but I really don’t like him now.

Also what happened to all those 3rd round trade offers that Licht was getting over Benenoch? Wouldn’t you take one of those offers over just releasing him straight out?

  50. ElioT Says:

    Give me Jason’s email, please.

I’d love to ask this guy so many questions…

I’m sure he has forgotten more “football” than I could ever know, but I’ve tried my best to forget more of his blunders than any single human brain is capable of.

Mr. Licht, you sir are in charge of the most embarrassing franchise in ALL of professional sports.

You are making the “Rockstar” look like a hero and that’s no easy feat.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a complete disaster and you are unable to do anything about it.

Sock away that guaranteed money, there ain’t no candy for you after the Glazier fools fire your a**.

No NFL Radio or ESPN gig for you.

May god have mercy on your soul.

  51. Glazers suck Says:

    Making room for kapernick.

  52. Broy34 Says:

Mad max you’re right we need a brees type of player. “We need a first ballot hall of fame quarterback that’s gonna hold the all time td record” yes everyone needs that. Jesus joes is this seriously the fan base

  53. DB55 Says:

    Broy

Yea they’re just as dumb as the San Diego fan base. Lol. See what I did there? Cuz SD traded Breese away. Chances are he would have sucked there cuz that franchise ain’t about winning just like ours.

  54. DB55 Says:

    Max

Shouldn’t Breese be losing or getting cut? He threw an interception for Christmas sake 😱

  55. MadMax Says:

a fan can wish broy34…..suck it.

  56. MadMax Says:

yep, that was a great game….glad i had a little time to catch the 2nd half!

Look DB55, you dont get it…its ok.

  57. PhillyBuc Says:

The Glazer Boys spend money but have no idea How to run a franchise. Draft pick after draft pick fail, coaching turnstile, and everyone’s still getting paid. BA is playing them for the fools that they are. All the while, the dedicated fans keep getting $crewed.

  58. Broy34 Says:

Yeah a fan can wish. But stating we need a player like brees is up there for the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. I’m a fan too or I wouldn’t be here

  59. Broy34 Says:

And now we have people blaming the glazers. They hire football people let them run the show and get out of the way. The roster is full of talent. And don’t worry about the cap. So much money can be moved around. Evans restructuring is just one way. Brate Gholston Jensen Dotson just to name a few.

  60. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Demar Dotson rumored to be traded to the Madrid Matadors for the rights to Anthony Collins. Stay tuned!

  61. Stanglassman Says:

Isparkplug- Bailey made the 53 team. He was never on the Practice Squad.

  62. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

This is only the beginning of the weeding of the offensive line. We picked up another T once we waived him as well. I hate J. Evans is on IR but I feel he may return at elgible date and finish an inspiring return. As far as Beneoch well he’s one more player gone off the team from the 2016 draft class. That bad draft set us back guys like Beneoch were never meant to last for years. I honestly feel if they would have kept him at T the whole time he probably could’ve manifest and develop. We have one roster available I believe a practice squad call up is coming. I feel Dotson may be next sooner rather than later.

  63. adam from ny Says:

thats was some game tonight between the saints and texans…those teams can ball, and we play then both…3 games in all vs those 2 teams…yowzers

  64. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

It is never as good as you think when you’re flush , but never as bad as it seems when you hit the skids. There was actually a lot of noticeably good things in the game Sunday like the fact that it appears that the Buccarinos now have a D , who woulda thunk it. It also appears the New and Improved ROJO is that breakaway threat at RB that we have not had. VHIII looks like a much improved player.
Let’s face it , Cam Newton ain’t what he used to be , and the Panthers D isn’t all that. As far as the last pick by Winston , ball was thrown exactly where the receiver should have been. Play calling was an issue all game , lack of Evans targets is inexcusable and only throwing to OJ once while he was actually running and not stationary is just stupid.
BEAT THE STINKING PANTHERS and ALL SINS WILL BE FORGIVEN.
