Bad Blocking, Bad Hands

September 8th, 2019

Rough day for the 2017 first-round pick

Very rough day for the Buccaneers’ first-round draft pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Bucco Bruce Arians himself talked after the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network about how he thought the offensive line played well but the tight ends too often failed in blocking. Those watching the 31-17 loss to the 49ers know O.J. Howard was on his mind.

Howard was eaten up too often today, certainly atypical for him, and his muffed red-zone catch that fell in the hands of a 49ers defensive player had Ronde Barber raising his voice on the FOX broadcast: “O.J. Howard must catch that football.”

The Bucs served Howard up a big-play opportunity and he didn’t deliver. He finished with four catches for 32 yards on five targets.

Hopefully, it’s just one bad day for a guy who’s supposed to have a breakthrough year.

    Dalvin Cook was the pick.

OJ Howard was a wasted pick.

You will never convince me otherwise.

  2. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Maybe that’s why he did catch at Alabama

  3. Figures Says:

    Pathetic.

  4. Zzbuc Says:

OJ has a bad day but we already know that he can play!

Things are Gerona pregunta clear to me!!

  5. Tampabuscsbro Says:

man you people want a injury prone running back taken 20 picks later over a solid tight end. You FSU homers never cease to amaze me

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Sorry OJ

But Jameis threw the ball high again…..you were at the top of the Tree…..

If you had an accurate QB who would hit you inbetween the numbers then maybe you and mike evans doesn’t have to climb ladders for every flippin pass from Jameis.

It’s not your fault OJ………….I got yo back jack!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Figures Says:

Lol yea can’t blame ya lol hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

If Winston cared at all about his teammates, coaches, city and Bucs fans, he would have a press conference and announce his retirement immediately from the NFL. Go play Baseball!

  9. Pugs&Bucs Says:

Dalvin has been a solid running back and he was on fire today.

OJ can’t stay healthy. Can’t catch. Can’t block. He gave two balls away on his own today.

Dalvin was the pick….. change my mind.

  10. Snook Says:

Agree on Cook statement. This guy is a big house with no furniture inside.

    Should’ve taken Cook.

I’m sure they’re just busy scouring the game tape to find any and all excuses for their hero.

Sadly, they will be back….so enjoy the quiet.

  12. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Someone saying OJ can’t stay healthy when cook has missed more games is a moron

  13. TonyC Says:

I’m sorry but if we had a competent QB this guy’s name wouldn’t even come up. I get that you’re trying to spread the blame around but honestly JW wasn’t throwing catchable balls. What’s up with Leftwich and Christensen?

  14. Petty Officer Buc Says:

If Leftwich has another game like this, Arians needs to be the man that Koetter wasn’t last season (with Mike Smith) and take offensive duties from him sooner rather than later.

It doesn’t matter if he is your friend or if you are hoping that he gets a break with a job somewhere else.

  15. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Rod and NDOG are both the super dueschbags duo of this website

…….they must be related or have some kinda connection to Jameis to keep on defending this unfranchise QB

  16. Pete I Says:

This is Jameis Winston’s 17th career game with multiple interceptions, passing Blake Bortles for most in the league since Winston entered the NFL in 2015.

    21-34 America’s QB

0-1 No biscuit and his golf cart

  17. Jean Lafitte Says:

4 catches out of 5 targets isn’t bad, it was the rest of his game that suffered

  18. Frank Pillow Says:

OJ played like a roll of Charmin today. The kid needs to start grinding.

  19. Pelbuc61 Says:

Man, the RayJay is truly the Den of Depression. USF get routed and the Bucs lose consistently there and away. Perhaps the NFL knew what they were doing giving the Bucs a home game in London. Now maybe the NCAA will give USF home games in the Ukraine.

  20. Wesley Says:

The hell is he smiling about?

  21. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Clyde Christensen is the same anemic coach that he has always been, and dragged down Dungy’s teams in the late 90’s. Another example of loyalty to bad coaches that the Bucs Head Coaches seem to always have.

  22. Tye Says:

Well the silver lining in all this: soon this sight will get back to being Buc fans and the ’jameis groupies’ will fizzle out so they don’t continue trying to sell Us a fake QB…

  23. DB Says:

I feel sorry for any receiver trying to catch a JW ball. No wonder they get injured so often because he leaves them so vulnerable.

  24. TheBucsAnthem Says:

We used to have a real PRO NFL team in Tampa when Gruden was here

…..and as much as I hate Gruden atleast he would have enough sense to move on from crappy QBs after he’s seen the light

5 years of this garbage is far too long

  25. Figures Says:

Yea Clyde Christianson isn’t worth the toilet paper I use to wipe my as s

Was never on board with that guy.

  26. Adrnagy Says:

Turnaround starts today watch. We will win division and go to playoff. Flying out from LA to go watch my bucs vs. giants.

  27. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

petty officer i was thinkin the same, it looked like mike shula’s bs offense out there. nos bos where you hiding my man, you did a ton of chirping about how great this team was i think u said 11-5….5-11 licht

  28. Petty Officer Buc Says:

What do you want to see in your next QB coming out of college?

    1. No “off the field” issues (that is putting it very mildly)
    2. Completely in control all 4 quarters, no “heroic” comeback victories due to multiple turnovers in the first half by said QB
    3. Accurate, deep ball throwing ability.
    4. 2 really good seasons. Not just one really good season and one okay season.

  29. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Garbage team. Licht is trash. GARBAGE

  30. Buchead407 Says:

Horrible drafts by licht Continues to neglect the trenches

  31. Ndog Says:

I post all game guys and the OFFENSE sucked all day. The WRs could not get open, they dropped balls, ran poor routes and didn’t take care of the football. First pick was off OJs hands, the second pick was a crappy route as it should have been run at 5 yards and was run a 7 that’s why it looked behind him and the last one Jameis should have thrown away BUT the back also shouldn’t get caught inside. It’s really simple, they all played like crap and while Jameis was not horrible he wasn’t good either. People forget the ridiculously great play/throw Jameis made to Brate for a TD that was called back. See certain people want to blame one player but again as I say time and time again it’s a team game and the offense as a whole was poor today all the way around.

  32. D-Rome Says:

Oj had a bad game but that is not the norm.

Jay-Miss on the other hand had another typical day at the office. That IS the norm.

  33. JimmyJack Says:

No excuse for OJ at all on that drop/tip to INT.

But if you evaluate the throw on that it was higher then it should have been.

High throws over the middle tend to lead to picks. Yes OJ should have caught it no doubt. But a more accurate throw does not result in a INT there. A high throw to the sidelines or something, OK……But over the middle if you are inaccurate it becomes a risk and liability.

Go ahead and take an INT off of Winston’s plate if you wanna…….but if you are playing that game then you need to tack one on for the free be he put in Kwon lap.

While we are at it chalk up 2 more fumbles to Winston BS day. And I do t know who was at fault for the bad snap exchange but it’s pile on Winston Day so I’ll just go ahead and blame him for it.

  34. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Adrnagy, whatever. I went to the game today and really wish I could get a refund. I am finally done with Winston and will not spend another dime on this team this year. Once they have a new QB and provide some hope I will consider coming back.

  35. BrianBucs Says:

The interception that he tipped was thrown high and behind him.
Why do you think in the draft he fell to the Bucs at #16?

  36. JimmyJack Says:

OJs hands have never impressed me.

And our receivers since last year have been putting balls on the turf. No doubt other teams have seen this and exploited it. Let’s hope this issues gets addressed cause it certainly wasn’t last year.

And while we are addressing issues fix the freaking punt blocking. Utter BS we had to watch our first one get blocked. We sucked all preseason at it. That’s freaking bad coaching. Fix it!!!! Sick of this BS!!!

  37. JimmyJack Says:

Christ Almighty dude shut the heck up about this!! Our freaking QB was absolutely awful today. 28 QBs have already played and Winston played the worst game in the entire league.

And he had a chance to win it in the final miute and threw one up for freaking grabs!!!! He was freaking terrible. Quit the freaking nonsense. It’s nauseating.

  38. Adrnagy Says:

    @touchdowntampabay

I rather fight dying than die crying. Just watch the stadium be full of blue jerseys. And you can see giants will suck too this year. But a fan is Loyal no matter what. Or bandwagon fan only when team wins. Turnaround starts today. ! If you all watch football and know football it’s not all on Jameis. If Brate TD wouldn’t be called back it would of be a different game. If the offense would of play better as a whole it will be different. We need something to spark a turnaround. And I think this is it.

  39. JimmyJack Says:

And the saddest part was that Garappollo played bad himself. Any decent QB gives us a two score lead by half time.

Their freaking QB hands us a pick six and a halftime lead while Winston scores zero for a entire first half, again.

Their QB plays a real bad game and our QB one ups him and plays even worse.

  40. Figures Says:

    @ndog

Lmao Haha hahahaha are you SERIOUS?

    Winston wasn’t horrible?

I swear I’d like to smack some sense into your DUMB STUPID FKING IDIOT MOUTH.

YOURE A FKING IDIOT. STILL BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE.

    WINSTON SUCKED DI CK TODAY.

STFU YOU FKING DUMB FU CK.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

    NDog

You are very fond of telling people they don’t know anything about football….

How about you do us all a favor and STFU

  42. Clw JB Says:

F- , he looked horrible today – as did the entire offense – sans ROJO in the second half

D looks light years ahead – they gave up 17 and 3 or that was off the blocked kick and scored a TD – hats off to Bowles

  43. Ndog Says:

Cause I actually know what I’m talking about and you don’t, simple Jmarkbuc. Like usual I make points and there is no actual response just uneducated yelling as usual. There is no blaming anyone when the entire offense sucked cause they are all to blame including the QB.

  44. Figures Says:

I dare NDog to tell me I don’t know anything about football.

I’d like him to tell me to my face. Little bit ch.

I’d smack his punk as s. Always talking sh it. He wouldn’t do that if he wasn’t in his moms basement behind a keyboard

  45. Alanbucsfan Says:

Jameis threw 2 pick 6, and when Arians trusted him to go for a td on 4th down instead of the fg, he almost threw another pick 6, plus the pick Kwon dropped right in his hands- face it- Jameis was absolutely terrible and the number 1 reason they lost- unacceptable for starting qb.
He is the reason the National Media has no respect for the Bucs and with good reason.- I honestly think he is getting worse.

  46. Blackmagic00 Says:

@pug, really? What world do you live in? OJ and dalvin have BOTH been injured. The fsu Homers are pretty much stupid in my book. Seems anything out of fsu is pretty much injured, useless or stupid. By the way, I’m on the west coast and don’t follow college football. Honestly, if anyone wants to bit ch about something? Kamara should’ve been one of our picks……I love Ronald Jones though and had a feeling it would take a year or two for him to break out. Actually, I think Ronald has 10 times more to show as time goes on. Peer athlete.

  47. DB Says:

You bleeding heart Winston fans make me sick. In fact all you bleeding heart people make me sick. It was a total waste of 4 hours today.
I haven’t bought Bucs merchandise in years and I won’t spend my hard earned dollars at your sorry ass games. I guess this early in the season I have to start recording and fast forwarding.
Dear Season ticket holders I admire your loyalty, you should feel duped, robbed and insulted.

  48. Figures Says:

    Where it go?

  49. Blackmagic00 Says:

Ndog call it night man. Winston needs not glasses, not bifocals, but microscopes and a robotic arm to be accurate. Dude plain sucks! Wish so bad I could defend him, but I can’t! His throws are all over the place, from accurate to the other team.

  50. Figures Says:

    Ndog

Stfu. With your blaming someone else.

Winston sucked and its obvious to anyone with eyes.

    You’re a pathetic idiot.

All you do is blame someone else. Can’t hide a turd forever.

Your boy sucked all day. And you suck too.

You shouldn’t even be speaking. And where’s ROD?

    Yea. Hahahahahahahahahhahahahaaaaa you idiots

  51. Blackmagic00 Says:

Got a hunch we might see some Freeman 2.0 soon if Winston can’t figure out what it is that ails him.

  52. Figures Says:

I bet Ndog sits down to pee.

  53. Ndog Says:

I love you guys avoiding anything resembling a conversation. So you guys think the rest of the offense played well today? We had three dropped passed, a TE fumble the ball in the red zone along with a ball going off his hands for a pick and blow like 4 one on one blocks, guys running trash routes all over the place and your good with that? It is easy to blame the QB and that’s fine cut him whatever I just want to win, but if anyone thinks we can win with any QB with guys playing around the QB like this then you are sadly mistaken. So go ahead and move on, if the play overall doesn’t improve winning is not an option.

  54. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Ndog

Take the Jameis nuts out of your mouth and come back when you know the sport

  55. Blackmagic00 Says:

Think it would be so cool if fans didn’t attack eachother with the name calling and insults. We’re all here for the same reason, yet with different opinions. If this was a winning organization we most likely wouldn’t be attacking eachother.

  56. Ndog Says:

Figures you don’t know anything about football. Happy to be told the truth?

  57. Ndog Says:

Loyal I forgot more football than you’ll ever know sir.

  58. Ndog Says:

Blackmagic00 it is because they are both clueless and classless.

    ___________________________________________________

Seriously. Get over Dalvin Cook already. OJ is a beast, and had a very bad day. Stop acting like this is normal for him.

@ndog- cmon man, I’ve been a Jameis supporter but he looked straight up awful today outside of 2 drives.

Both pick-6s were on him. His footwork and mechanics look terrible.

    Simple as that.

  60. Dreambig Says:

I’ll be a OJ Howard fan when he outplays Cameron Brate. He needs to earn the hype. So far he has been decent, today he was not. Brate on the other hand continues to deliver day in and day out.

  61. Phil Says:

Howard is a major disappointment. We should trade him for whatever we can get and move Tanner Hudson up the depth chart. Brate & Tanner would be good. Maybe we can get an offensive lineman for Howard.
