New RB Signed!

September 2nd, 2019

Roster move.

Well Holy Flirkingschmidt, the Bucs signed a running back!

It seems the Bucs brass is laboring on this here Labor Day. And true to Bucco Bruce Arians’ words, the team scoured the unemployed to find a player and lo and behold they found one. A running back no less!

Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, the Bucs dragged off the sidewalk signed a running back today.

Source tells me that the Bucs have claimed running back T.J. Logan, who was waived by the Cardinals. In order to make room for him, the Bucs have waived Pat O’Connor, per a source.

So the Bucs playing days of former wrestler pass rusher Patrick O’Connor were indeed numbered.

Logan has two career carries for two yards through his two-year career.

Joe finds it almost encouraging that Arians may very well have picked up the phone and summoned Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to his office, telling Licht he’s not overwhelmed by his running backs and needs help there.

  1. Jmarkbuc Says:

And we signed a Div. III center to our practice squad.

Licht’s Div. III fetish is unhealthy. There’s gotta be an SEC UDFA OL that is better than DIV III, no?

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    Yipeeeeee!

    Melvin Gordon…..oh wait.

    T.J. Logan.

    Sigh.

  3. El_Buc941 Says:

TJ who?is he even a 3rd down back joe?

  4. Todd Says:

I’m a fan of this due to the fact back in 2019, T.J. Logan led the NFC South in rushing with 1,669 yards from scrimmage. For the Bucs.

    Back from the future.

    You’re welcome.

  5. HeavyE Says:

    Why????

  6. Rayjay1122 Says:

I am so excited! The great T.J. Logan is now a Buc! Superbowl bound baby!

  7. Mort Says:

And if he is on the field, we’re screwed.

  8. HeavyE Says:

Man, I’m sick of this Sh*t!!!!!!

  9. BuccaneEric75 Says:

He was drafted by BA in Arizona. Coaches always bring former players on board. If you like BA, it’s a good move, if you don’t like BA, he’s pulling a Koetter-Rodgers. I hope he’s better than Ellington, another BA connection.

  10. WyomingDude Says:

If you put “TJ Logan” in the title of this article, clearly we wouldn’t have had to….click….in here at all. But wait….

    Yep.

  11. Licht is the WORST GM ever Says:

Dumpster diving Licht does it again! Ones mans trash is another mans treasure.

  12. BucBeliever Says:

Ok O’Conner may have been a former wrestler but you know what else he did, showed promise (2 sacks, 4 TFL). Why are we limiting our D-line depth for another RB when we have 2 RB’s on the practice squad already, one named Bruce Anderson?! Who IMO should have gotten all of Ellington’s reps to see if he could have become a starter.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Does anyone still think that Licht is in charge of personnel decisions?

  14. firethecannons Says:

    he is a return specialist

  15. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Defense Rules “Does anyone still think that Licht is in charge of personnel decisions?”

Nailed it. Licht is a coaches GM. I don’t think he calls the shots on who the Bucs hire. He let’s the coaches pick them and he signs them. Probably only makes a few picks in the draft.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

sign all the running backs you want until you upgrade that pathetic right tackle it really does not matter.

  17. Durango 95 Says:

Joe’s next story will be about O’Conner getting signed to another teams active roster. Insult meets injury.

  18. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

T J Logan might be a player to watch. He has straight line speed – ran a 4.37 seconds in the draft (2017). Most impressed with his 3 cone drill at 6.59 seconds, which is the fastest I have seen in a long time, meaning the kids has hips to shift. Not sure how good his vision is but he might have potential to move to the #2 on the RB position.

He had a wrist injury in the first year with BA. Did not do much the last year as he was 3rd running for Arizona. Did pretty good this preseason playing with second and third stringers. Good pickup.

  19. Buc4evr Says:

@jmarkbuc. Exactly, I’ve also been saying that. There are UDFAs from the SEC every year that are better then DIV III guys that Gump insists on drafting. I went to high school with a guy that was better than Cappa is now. Lol. Cappa is a disaster and he is going to get Winston killed….

  20. Ben real Says:

    Licht bright

  21. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Ok, now we have the RB position solved……man this team sucks during the offseason too.

  22. Hodad Says:

Who? Pat O Conner is twice the player boy band wanna be Scotty Miller is, yet they let him go for who? Another trench player gone, but lil beotch Miller remains. Way to build a SB team Licht.

  23. Zzbuc Says:

    Licht is a joke!!

  24. Buc4evr Says:

Like TJ Logan is better than who ? Wish BA and Gump would quit screwing around and get a veteran RG and RT.

  25. BuccaneEric75 Says:

It’s a BA move, not a Licht move.

  26. Buc4evr Says:

Hope Pat O’Connor can get signed to the practice squad. Seemed to play well in preseason.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

BTW, we swapped a defensive player for another offensive player. Now sit at 26 offense (all healthy) and 24 defense (several banged up). If we lose the first game because we lack defensive depth, BA will get the blame, not JL. Pretty risky play with Vea down.

  28. NOSBOS Says:

What Firethecannons said. Didn’t really take much research either.

  29. Cobraboy Says:

Logan will be thre return guy.

  30. adam from ny Says:

    tj logan………..???

does he even lift bro ?

  31. Waco Says:

Until proven wrong, I am going to trust BA to make the decisions.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This guy may be returning kicks for us…..not sure about punts…..other than Bobo, who do we have that returns punts?

We are pretty heavy on Offensive skill positions.

    3QBs
    4RBs
    6WRs
    4TEs

This can’t make Bruce Anderson very happy…..

  33. BA FAN Says:

We do need a run back specialist and this guy is fast and quick and already knows BA’s system! Trust BA.

  34. Cobraboy Says:

    Buc4evr Says:

Like TJ Logan is better than who ? Wish BA and Gump would quit screwing around and get a veteran RG and RT.

    Alright, genius boy, like who?

  35. Jean Lafitte Says:

The diminutive RB T.J. Logan Jr.. he’s the smallest of all our backs

Arians and Licht just signed their kick returner.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Why am I thinking Vita Vea is healthy & ready to play Sunday….

Let O’Connor go instead of putting Miller on the PS…..

  37. geno711 Says:

This guy looks a little small but he is clearly football fast.
For those fans that wanted us to take Darrell Henderson in the draft — this guy is quicker.

Henderson’s 40 was 4.49 on his pro day (incorrectly reported initially as 4.37.
TJ Logan combine 40 was 4.37.

Logan’s 3 cone drill at his pro-day was 6.59 that puts him only behind Christian McCaffrey’s 6.57 that year.

His 17 bench presses at the combine put him behind James Conner’s 20 and ahead of McCaffrey’s 10.

Don’t know if he will work out but worth a shot.

  38. BigZ Says:

    4 and 12

  39. Darin Says:

If the Oline can run block the RBs will be fine. We will see what mindset was instilled in less than 7. See ya there

  40. Wesley Says:

    Yay?

  41. DalvinCookRules Says:

We can deduce that Logan was probably very high on Licht’s draft board when he came out. Given Licht’s drafting record, we can also feel very confident that he will add absolutely NOTHING.

  42. Joe in Michigan Says:

If we get beat on Sunday, we get beat. It most certainly won’t be because we switched out our 53rd guy, who would’ve been inactive anyway.

  43. K2 Says:

Every time we get a player change (or not) there are calls for Licht’s head. Hopefully, a few guys begin to realize that player personnel is a combined effort between scouts and coaches. Many of the picks were selected because some coach want them. Let’s see how this group plays before we fire all the players, coaches, and staff.

One thing that seems certain is that the defensive coaching staff was bad. They didn’t know what they wanted or how to use talent. Some blame Licht for all the roster mistakes…..just not realistic. The current draft class selections were heavily influenced or chosen by BA and Bowles. Previous draft classes and free agents were influenced by Koetter and Smith. It appears that Koetter had a positive influence and Smith had a negative influence.

So far, it is realistic to expect defense and special teams to improve. Even if offense is about unchanged it wouldn’t be the end of the world. However, I believe that the Bucs will be less predictable and that should provide better results…especially in the red-zone.

If the Bucs fail… I will probably join the group calling for heads to roll…however, that’s not a starting point.

  44. Buccaroo Says:

I must admit this hurts Bruce Anderson’s chances with the 4th RB being a KR. It was the only real shot a UDFA had to break ranks and the drafted hierarchy pecking order. Am I a little P”oed? yeah maybe a little, but not if T.J. Logan is worth it. Maybe he’s the KR weapon we need? I hope so! Go Bucs!

    Goodluck BAlll 🏴‍☠️

  45. NOSBOS Says:

Track meet. The league hasn’t seen this type of overall team speed since the 99 “Greatest Show on Turf” Rams. 6 and 10 or 7 and 9??? Like jbf is predicting.. Hmm,😊. We gone soon about that.

  46. K2 Says:

August 16, 2019. Logan….returned three kickoffs for 71 yards during Thursday’s preseason defeat to the Raiders.

  47. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Arians is in charge now, not Licht. If you don’t like the signing, at least blame the right person.

  48. mark2001 Says:

Joe…I think this guy is more about kick returning.

  49. Chesapeake Bucco Says:

So many of the “fans” on this site are just…miserable

  50. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It will be interesting to see if we suit up 4 RBs on Sunday……if only 3, I guess Dare will sit.
I am guessing that Logan returned punts in practice because he returned 2 or 3 in preseason…..he got some work at RB but not many carries….only 3 or 4 per game…..average was good.

This could mean that Bobo will sit on occasion.

  51. jjbucfan Says:

Now trade for for Trent Williams- give up a 1 or 2 this year and Brate- skins need a TE- Jordan Reed is ALWAYS hurt. This hurts but cut JPP for the money and uncertainty. Move D Smith to RT and be done with it.

  52. Bucnjim Says:

China has face recognition and Bucs fans are Crazy for name recognition. Please get over the big name players all they do is raid the team salary cap and leave us in our current situation. A very wise coach said NFL teams DO NOT let talented players walk! The players walking are actually hindering their teams in some way shape or form.

  53. TDTB Says:

If he was signed to be a kick returner, maybe it’s bye bye for BoBo.

  54. Buccaroo Says:

    TDTB

    a sure possibility

  55. Buccaroo Says:

    or maybe BA wants 2

  56. NPRSageBoy Says:

This the best our Dynamic Duo of Dumpster Diving can muster? Good Grief!

  57. crazyBucs_CL Says:

    @ BucBeliver
“Why are we limiting our D-line depth for another RB when we have 2 RB’s on the practice squad already”
Our OLD HC looks only in the pass…. Arizona… that’s all he knows, that’s all he remember. Even his achievements were very limited in my view.
the guy is obsessed with Arizona, stocked in his past, proud for his short years as HC.
The guy ignores the future, the guy is dried out. I’m tired with “Arizona” sh..

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  58. Adrnagy Says:

Stop with the dink and dunk and go for the slam dunk ! Melvin Gordon. Send barber , jones and a 2nd rounder. Release gholston , Brate and sign him to a 5yr.
You need a 3 headed offense and 3 headed defense
    Winston
    Evans
    RB ..who?

    Suh
    David,white
    Secondary who?

  59. Brandon Says:

For all.the @^#$ers that don’t know who Logan is. The fastest RB in the draft in 2017. He was/is a tough runner for his size, has good hands, return ability, and decent open field moves. He could easily be a 3rd down RB/WR type like Bush, Sproles, etc.

  60. BucHead588 Says:

    This kid will
Be our KR an PR guy bet on it more
Moves to come O Conner goes threw waivers he will be back tomorrow on PS an activated to 53 once a Injury happens he wouldn’t be active on Gameday anyway until a injury happens watch mark my words
    Good move
Special teams returning wasn’t good in preseason bring in someone who can do
That you also noticed the added a RB the Falcons Cut to PS because he can do return job

  61. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Saw TJ go 59 yards for a touchdown in preseason. Never saw anything like that from Barber or Jones.

  62. JimmyJack Says:

They got him for a reason and they obvisously think it’s a roster upgrade. Save your overreactions for what he does on the field.

  63. Bucnjim Says:

Melvin Gordon? Seriously? You do know how things work right? Gordon has zero desire to come to the Buccaneers so he would reject playing for this team or anyone he doesn’t want to go to. Not to mention cap issues. I love the positive articles and the wish list but there is a thing called Reality. The Joes have their wish list of players they would like to have on this team which all fans do, but the reality is the good bourbon has already been poured and we are patiently waiting for the rest to age.

  64. SC Bucs Fan Says:

It’s amazing how many stupid people post here. Gordon? He wants to be paid. We don’t have money. Well that settles that.

  65. cmurda Says:

Did we really waste the 4th overall waiver position for this dude?

  66. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

TJ LOGAN is an Anagram for Tank for Lawrence

  67. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We have definitely gotten younger and absolutely gotten faster…..

  68. Rojas Says:

I’m okay with the move.. hopefully we can sign O’Connor to the PS.

  69. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Cmurda, no, we got beat out on any waiver claims we might have made. He’s a FA like all of the guys that went unclaimed.

  70. Billy_45 Says:

So BA believes in his own talent evaluation.
Let’s see what he’s got before we judge.

  71. B-Rad Says:

Going to be another rough season. When will we be competitive again with a real chance to win? The Sapp/Brooks years feel like eternity now.

  72. VegasBuc Says:

Kid’s got wheels and good vision. Def made the team faster. Special teams signing im sure

  73. BucsFan727 Says:

His going to return kicks. KICKOFF RETURNER is his specialty. And they grabbed another back that was in Atlantas camp this preseason.

  74. Buczilla Says:

Better than nothing and I wouldn’t be shocked if this kid has a big role by mid season considering his competition. He’s seriously fast too.

  75. cmurda Says:

Ah, got you. Meh, why not I guess.

  76. Bobbo Says:

    Yea return guy all day.

  77. miken Says:

patrick oconner could rush for more yards than this guy.

  78. Elita Vita Says:

TJ was an excellent kick off return specialist in college. Showed splashes at the pro level. Arizona has several players that can fulfill that role now. Just a numbers game situation for them. BoBo can still be a punt returner.

  79. DB55 Says:

All this is moot without an oline.

  80. Dewey Selmon Says:

We had to get Logan cause Scotty Miller couldn’t secure a job he was basically handed.

  81. Cobraboy Says:

    Miller is going nowhere.

You don’t cut a rookie with 4.3 speed that pulled a hammy. You develop him.

  82. DB55 Says:

    Cobra

2 teams cut Emmanuel hall with 4.3 speed and great hands coming out the sec. mizzo is sec right?

Scouts: with his elite speed and quickness he can get behind anyone in the secondary.

    But yea it’s a bucslife

  83. BucsBandit Says:

    SUCCO BRUCE ARIANS WAS RIGHT.

We aren’t rebuilding, we’re going with the same garbage team.

  84. Rod Munch Says:

Elita Vita – A kickoff return guy, good info to have and would make a lot of sense. I expect there’s more turnover to come once David proves to be healthy and Vita is back.

  85. T REX Says:

    6-10

  86. Rod Munch Says:

Reading some Cardinals blogs and I’m happy to see in the comments that the Cards fans seem pretty universally p/o’d over losing Logan – all think he’s a very good return specialist. Makes sense to get someone after the very poor showing they had in the preseason with everyone except for Bobo in the return game.

  87. ArgYeMaties Says:

Why can I see Arians saying to Jason Licht, “Let’s trade a really good and dominate D-lineman for a running back that hasn’t done diddly squat in the NFL, yeah that’s the ticket.” Okay, I know I’m going to hear, “But-but Logan can run real fast, and he can return.” After what I saw in the Cleveland game from O’Connor he will sign with another team and the Bucs will, as usual, regret it.

  88. CalBucsFan Says:

Would rather see them sign RB Elijah Holyfield out of Georgia.

  89. D-Rome Says:

That Pat O’Connor video was amazing!

  90. Ndog Says:

I am not sure why the guy let go wasn’t Bobo Wilson since Logan is a return man and that basically all Bobo is going to be.

  91. mark2001 Says:

If some would just do a little research on a guy, they wouldn’t sound ignorant and think he was brought in to just be a running back perception, or an excuse to just throw some more Sheet at Licht, the O line, and such. Must stink to live in a way where that is about all there is….a smoldering hatred for everything the Bucs are trying to do. Love them or hate them folks, it is the only team in your back yard…the only team you are anything more than a long distance “who are you?” fan.

  92. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

How long is the commitment to a player claimed off waivers?

Obviously, that is the roster spot that will be used to tryout new guys.

I honestly believe that unless the Bucs sign a well-known name the fan will complain every time. There is no pleasing Tampa fans.

  93. webster Says:

Wait a minute…did someone just refer to o’connor as a dominate dlineman? This is truly the dumbest fan base

  94. mark2001 Says:

You have a point webster. Have to admit though, that he did look good…against third string and waver wire O linemen.
