Ronald Jones Is Not A Kick Returner

August 23rd, 2019

Joe has seen enough and hopefully Bucco Bruce Arians has, as well.

Ronald Jones is not a kicker returner. He doesn’t look smooth and decisive, and his speed isn’t showing up in that role. And it’s not like he’s a fierce load to tackle for defenders.

Enough already. Let this three-game test lead the Bucs to find someone else.

Joe liked the idea of Jones getting the first touch of the preseason while lined up to return kicks against the Steelers, just to get Jones dialed into the game. But please, Coach, no more.

They probably have better options on the roster (wanna bet Jordan Whitehead would be better?) and Jones returning kicks just jacks up the odds he gets hurt of loses confidence.

Dirk Koetter sold fans and media for the past three years that kickoff returning wasn’t very valuable and general manager Jason Licht appeared to buy right in to his chosen head coach. Joe never bought it.

Arians might think the same way, considering he didn’t address the position in free agency or the draft.

They’d have one if they’d give him a chance.

    Bruce Anderson II

…….and Scotty Miller looked scared on punt returns.

I haven’t seen much from anyone else either….

5-11 and Arians and James are both gone. White should not even be a starter week one, he has done nothing. The Defense is fun to watch and the secondary looks good.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

No hes not a returner. But I did think he was one of few bright spots on offense tonight. Couple of nice runs. He keeps it up and he will break a long one for us in the season.

Why is it that the bucs as a team hold on to these players and “hope” they somehow will become better players. Good freakin players are just good players. The last two “franchise” qbs should have been dumped after year 3. We always say oh well he needs more weapons…. anyone remember the 55,555,555 million dollar contract for a receiver for freeman. I wanna see griffin get some starts in the regular season and let’s just start a rebuild. Stop holding on to these stupid QBs like they are something they are not

    Big fan!

    This kid can ball.

Saw it last yr but he looks dialed-in rn.

The pick was nice but the PD in the back of the end zone was stellar! Not only does he blind the receiver he muscles the ball out all in one motion. Fn BRILLIANT and the dude was literally 9 inches taller. I’m Looking at you VH3, you scrub.

  13. Petty Officer Buc Says:

This offensive line is not NFL caliber. Don’t worry, I’m sure Licht will draft another D2 lineman next year and call it a good draft.

  14. DB55 Says:

At easy petty officer …. 🔥 Fire 🔥

  15. DB55 Says:

    *ease

  16. Waterboy Says:

That’s ok he needs to get used to NFL contact.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Just looks like he’s looking downfield for his blocks and not running anywhere near full speed – and his game in college was speed. He showed good burst on a couple of carries so I don’t think he is suddenly slow, but he just isn’t running fast on those returns.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Want a good returner?

Wait for Kelven McKnight to be released from the Broncos in the cuts. He’s a WR, but he’s fast and has good hands.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It looked to me like Jones was gradually adapting. That last one would have been a great one, but the dude got a good grip on his foot.

I wouldn’t make him the regular returner right now, but experience might lead to improvement. Of course, I’m all for letting him just run and catch right now.

But I would remind people…last year he would have dropped so of those kicks.

  20. A Train Says:

The reason they run fast in college and don’t run fast in the NFL is because in the NFL, everyone is faster and most are both bigger and faster.

  21. firethecannons Says:

we need to not run it when possible and just take the 25 yd line. that way no penalties or injuries and better field overall, we do not have a kick returner as Bobo is the best and he aint anything
    Rojo-NO! Scotty-No so far
    Maybe emmanuel hall–the new guy?

  22. Rod Munch Says:

A Train- Jones is supposed to be a low 4.4 guy, his timed 40 was inflated because he pulled a hamstring while running it. But in any case he just doesn’t look like he’s very comfortable returning kicks, and Bobo did a pretty good job of returning kickoffs last year when he had a chance. Pretty sure Bobo is going to be on the team (assuming he wasn’t talked himself off the team), so once the regular season games begin I’m guessing he’s back there.
