No Issue With Offensive Line

August 9th, 2019

Impressed early.

It seems a sect of Bucs fans have a favorite hobby: Holler about the offensive line.

Well, the way the Bucs’ first-team offensive line played to open the game tonight in Pittsburgh, those same people might need to pick up knitting.

There was nothing Joe could see with the much-maligned first-team offensive line that would give anyone a reason to whine. They opened solid holes for running backs. They gave America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, plenty of time to throw.

The only time Jameis had to dodge a sack came on a whiff of a block not by a tackle or a guard, but by a tight end.

If this is what the 2019 version of the Bucs’ front line is to look like, the Bucs are much better off than last year.

    No depth!

  2. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Alls I know is we have 4 solid TEs and a lot of Humphreys ghosts at WR on the field. Go Bucs!

  3. 813bucboi Says:

Starters played good….benenoch sucks….I saw him get beat multiple times….

    GO BUCS

  4. Frank Pillow Says:

OL/DL depth is a major concern of nearly every team in the league—it’s just that most at least attempt to address the matter in short order; whereas we’re over a half decade in with almost nothing to show for it.

  5. JimmyJack Says:

Thanks for this write up Joe……..If people still wanna complain about the OL after this game then they will never shut up.

But I see the first comment somebody is actually complain. About depth. I guess the starters musta have played the whole game in that case cause we played really good all night. To be fair we did break down in them last ten minutes and gave up too much QB pressure……….not sure if that was from substitutions or what but it was a very good total effort up front tonight.

  6. Cobraboy Says:

Until one of them gets hurt.

Benenoch was terrible, as was some huge slug of a down-depth OT.

  7. Swampbuc Says:

The issue is lack of depth. It’s hard to imagine Benenoch having a job even as a 3rd stringer for much longer. Poor Griff did an amazing job with no OT help at all in the final two drives.

  8. Pete Says:

I am happy and hopeful after preseason 1!

  9. Jean Lafitte Says:

As much as you like to stick it to other fans I wouldn’t call it a victory yet Joe. One drive in their first preseason game does not define them. Yes they did well for Jameis to start the game but poor Griffin was under siege. Let’s see how they do to open the season in a full 4qtr game. I saw a lot of poor blocking, and holding. How many did Cole Boozer have? This team showed potential but they also showed they still have a long way to go. Any word on Bryant Mitchell’s injury?

  10. firethecannons Says:

awesome tight end play by Hudson and Schnell–really impressive abilities–they put on a sweet show! especially considering Ryan Griffin was falling apart at the seams. O-line looked solid early on. Happy with Jameis and check downs and running the ball — all of it was good. Happy that Matt Gay made the big one.

WTF happened to our secondary being fixed? major work needs to be done there as we got exposed.

  11. tmaxcon Says:

Offensive line is garbage America’s Quarterback is carrying them similar to the way sapp carried those back ups you people so adorably call legends…. maybe it’s a good omen…

  12. July Joe Says:

I think cutting Benenoch might be addition by subtraction and send a good message to the rest of the O-Line … as long as there is a capable replacement to be had out there.

  13. FireJasonLicht Says:

    T Maxipad is still here?!?!

  14. Pryda...sec147 Says:

No depth yeah right we almost came up with the 2 Pointer at the end to tie it and go to overtime. No depth ha we have a few players that didn’t even suit up just I’m going to enjoy watching our Bucs Grow!

  15. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Refreshing to see the first line doing good.

BA hinted, for the young guys, either they get exposer or get exposed. BA is known to pick up one or two decent Olineman after the 53 cutdown.

  16. IsrBuc Says:

How was cappa? How many drives was he in for?

  17. OBP Says:

Starting O-line looked solid, then again most of the guys they were going against were back ups but outside of that one PB run where Donovan got steam rolled them held up nicely.

  18. Kobe Faker Says:

“Get the ball out quickly…helps the oline

Peyton Manning made all his left tackles a allpro where ever he went”

I didn’t see/hear the first string, but watched/listened to most of the game until the final quarter. Ogunwale (sp?) has won a roster spot. Also, once he settled down, Griffin looked good. Not sure what’s up with all the complaining on here tho the site has its trolls. Definitely BAD call on the Griffin “grounding.” BA better get used to the refs, preseason or not.

  21. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I watched Cappa on every play of the first drive and I like what I saw. He held his own in one on one blocks, recognized a late Blitzer on the missed deep shot, pulled adequately on a run, got out front and made a block on a screen pass and finished strong on several blocks. In one drive I got to see a full game from what had to be the biggest question on the o line. The running game didn’t look like the giant turd we’ve been sold all summer either.

  22. TexBuc Says:

OL looked like they played with better leverage and technique.

  23. LargoBuc Says:

Good job oline. Keep going. We’re going to need a huge outing against San Frans dline week 1. Ford vs Smith.

  24. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

Depth is going to be a really issue on the OL. There will be serviceable veterans cut this month. Don’t be surprised if BA picks up one or two of them for depth. Benenoch is just not a good football player.

  25. Hodad Says:

Thought Zach Bailey looked good at RG when he finally got his chance. Benenoch, Boozer, E.Smith looked like crap, so I’d be concerned Joe. If we lose a starter on either side of the ball we’re in big trouble. Glad you can sleep at night Joe.

  26. Easy Says:

TBH, they played against mostly Pittsburgh backups lol. But it was still nice to see
