Can One Play Secure A Job?

Though the Bucs running backs showed good signs tonight, Joe isn’t ready to anoint the team as a ground-and-pound outfit.

So yeah, the team isn’t exactly deep at running back. When 30-year old Andre Ellington is the best guy off the bench, look out.

That’s what made the 10-yard touchdown run by Dare Ogunbowale interesting. He zigged and zagged to juke Steelers linebackers for what looked like an easy run for six.

The way the Bucs’ front line blocked in the opening drive, moves like Ogunbowale had with an alley to run through could result in some explosive running plays.

That is a man who knows how to hit the hole. Dare > Rojo.

  2. BucEmUp Says:

Im not impressed with Ellington. He needs to be cut before the season starts. He is here to help teach rojo and that should be all. There are better backs beung cut by other teams here soon. Let him teach get a small pay day and move on

  3. MadMax Says:

I’d def keep Dare, he plays intense and drives forward instead of dancing. I like him.

  4. cmurda Says:

I don’t know about Dare > Rojo. I like what I saw from Rojo too. With that said, it would be stupid to have guys like Ryan Griffin and Benenoch taking up roster spots and a guy like Dare not sticking on our roster.

  5. Cobraboy Says:

The top 4 backs looked solid.

Barber made a nifty move I didn’t think he had in him.

    Jones will be fine.

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

I thought they looked pretty good overall. Can’t expect too much from guys that won’t make the team. But doggone if Schnell isn’t the second coming of Humphries 😂

  7. GrafikDetail.com Says:

Dare problem may be not knowing the new offense well enough… couple of plays looked like he was confused and saw Griffin was upset with him

  8. firethecannons Says:

Dare rammed it in for another one too–he should be #2 on the depth chart competing with Rojo.

  9. ATLBucs Says:

    He cuts going full speed

  10. TDTB Says:

    Agree with cmurda.

  11. John Says:

Please Joe, inform us of the man making big plays wearing number 83. Schnell looks like a serious find.

I’m not gonna lie i liked what i saw from ryan griffin. Dare should get a roster spot. Ellington be cut. Our secondary is scary. Seems like they’ve been slumping for about a week per reports from practices. 2nd half pressure was non existent aside from a handful of plays. They gave loads of time to pass. That could be why our secondary looked bad. Schnell would be a great signing. Mike Edwards was playing over top that play he flies in on the rb (devin white helped clean it up) but that looked like his college tape. Was a good play but its dangerous for pump fakes. Looking forward to next week. Ps this 3-4 system we are utilizing is helping jameis find the holes we have to face. Could be the prep he needed

“Few weeks ago, Shaman Kobe Faker Dare say so

That Ogunbowale will be RB starter during the season

Kobe Faker likes quick north south 1 cut physical runners”

    Kobe Faker

  14. Clw JB Says:

Very positive start – 1st team did their jobs well – then it turned into a pre-season game -depth on the Oline is definitely an issue and the D looked shaky after the first qtr, but again – the 1st team played well without VV or LVD -two key gogs for sure, not to mention JPP – thought Spence looked VERY good

It’s not like we were playing the Bengals, overall good game against a tough opponent, on the road

The O is going to be just fine, it’s all about getting that D back in shape and being more consistent on special teams

Can’t wait to see it in person next week!!!

  15. Dreambig Says:

A good start but the reality is our secondary might be loaded with future studs but right now those guys are way too green. After the first series the D was pretty overwhelmed for most of the night. How many 3rd and 20s did pitt make it out of? Felt too familiar.

2nd coming of humphries? Does every white receiver the bucs pick up have to be compared to humphries? Come on buc fans that is lazy. Scotty miller skill set is different than humphries and snell is 6’5. Wouldnt that put him in the mold of evans or if we are using the white comparison, adam thielen? How about jordy nelson? Smh

  17. webster Says:

I stand corrected. Schnell is only 5’9. I guess he is humphries lol. But he seemed more dynamic to me. Explosive. My point is every white receiver is not humphries. Let these players define who they are. We already had a humphries, im excited to see what a scotty miller looks like.

” Can’t expect too much from guys that won’t make the team. But doggone if Schnell isn’t the second coming of Humphries 😂”

    Agree

  19. Conte Piscatelli Says:

And if Schnell is that easily compared to Humphries it will make a lot of people eat Crow about Licht. Letting Hump walk was the right call because he is easily replaced without that inflated contact he stole from Tennessee.

  20. Smashsquatch Says:

Barber looked liked Barber, steady but nothing great. Rojo looked better; although I’m not ready to believe he can keep it up. His anticipation and vision needs improvement if he’s going to break out this year. Ellington is another Quizz and will prevent us from developing Dare who looked good.

  21. mark2001 Says:

How about Badger Dare and Redbird Schnell? Very proud of our guys. Can’t keep Buckingham and Reggie down, can you.

  22. TOM Says:

Dare, Schnell & Hudson looked really good. Thought Ledbetter played a good game.
