Leftwich: “Everything Is Going Just As Planned”

With the defense, especially the secondary, off to a great start through five days of training camp, a few have been left concerned with the offense.

Not Byron Leftwich.

The Bucs’ offensive coordinator stood at the podium Tuesday fielding questions from reporters and he was immediately asked about his impressions from the first few days of camp, especially the defense getting the best of his offense.

“Well that’s always a good thing,” Leftwich explained. “And that’s how camp always tends to always start off in the first couple days. Defense gets downhill quick, they get downhill quick, especially early in camp. But I think we responded well after the first day. A lot of good stuff though, a lot of good stuff that we’re doing. We got some things that we do, just got to get off the tape, but it’s a lot of good things that we’re doing over there on both sides of the ball. Great competition every day, it should be ebb and flow of this whole thing. You don’t ever want it to be one-sided so it’s a good flow, everything is going just as planned.”

To hear Leftwich say everything was going just as planned was a bit surprising. He did mention certain drills and plays are meant to go a certain way and media and fans just can’t see it because they don’t truly know what the coaches are asking for.

So, while one might think the offense has done a poor job thus far, nobody truly knows for sure except the coaches and players.

And if you ask them, the offense is humming just fine.

*Yes we are intentionally putting our players in positions where the outcome will be deflected passes, sacks and picks.*
-Sounds like the opposing team’s game plan on Sundays, never heard of that strategy from an OC in camp…

  2. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Great reporting, kind of wish this regime would stop treating the fanbase like a bunch of rubes. Come out & say “we sucked at this phase but I guarantee it will be fixed, by Sept 8

  3. LordCornelius Says:

99 – too bad that isn’t an actual quote.

This is pretty true around all camps every year. D has an early edge typically unless it’s the Tampa defenses of every year prior to this season. Both teams installing new systems / trying new sh1t.

    GO BUCS

  5. K2 Says:

If you combine those comments with the positive results from the last practice it looks much more realistic.

  6. Kobe Faker Says:

“We bring in the coaching staffs of 3-13 Arizona cardinals and 4-12 NY Jets

and Kobe is supposed to be confident?”

    Kobe Faker

  7. NOSBOS Says:

Lord these people are clueless. The man said “we are not gameplaning or trying to attack any particular part of the defense in practice, we are simply calling plays” he also said he is not concerned with passes right now more so with the QBs decisions. Is called practice for a reason. By in large I feel most posters are knowledgeable but many round here football IQ sends kindergarten at best.

  8. BigHog Says:

Slow down haters…allow this staff to at least get thru training camp!!!

  9. 813bucboi Says:

    i’ll find out who’s right soon enough….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  10. Eric Says:

You mean these guys are building up the confidence of the QB and offense, rather than trashing them like the previous regime?

    What a concept.

  11. Neal Says:

“-Sounds like the opposing team’s game plan on Sundays, never heard of that strategy from an OC in camp…” God forbid the OC get the team read for what the opposing team might try to do on Sunday’s. This stuff if foreign to us because we are Bucs fans, and haven’t seen real coaching in a decade.

  12. NOSBOS Says:

What Neal said. Coach Lefty mentioned he and BA already bouncing things off each others heads concerning opponents 3 and 4 weeks into the season. Professional coaching.

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

Its not surprising at all!!!!!!! Everyone knows that the coaches cannot say one bad thing or cannot display any critics of any kind towards the fragile, game manager qb!!!!!!!!! or he will fold like a lawn chair because “someone does not have his back” or whatever he cries about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can’t wait to hear the “coach speak” and “excuses” that will occur when the failures on the field during the “real” season start to occur!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hold them accountable???? Not in the least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Don_RyJo(e) Says:

“Believe what I say, not what you see.”

    Ummmm, no.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The Buc Realist, back to your old ways, huh? lol

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Hope you do extremely well Mr. Leftwich. Just remember..If Arians gets rode out of Tampa on a rail? Its on..Your back there sir.

  17. Old School Athlete Says:

Realist, tell me exactly when BA has ever been afraid to criticize someone?

  18. orlbucfan Says:

Buc Realist is actually named Buc Bozo. He gets what he wants on here: attention. Another troll for the road.
