“He Does Not Look Like Himself And He’s Not As Accurate As He Was”

August 30th, 2019

First up for the revamped Bucs defense

There’s a real Buccaneers football game in nine short days — nine!!

So Joe is all dialed in to the 49ers.

Earlier this week, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was praised and skewered by ex-Bucs QB Chris Simms, who breaks down all things NFL for NBC Sports. Simms said Garoppolo has “messed up feet,” and he actually stood up and detailed it with a ball in his hand.

Garoppolo, who has had an up-and-down preseason that ended in a strong showing at Kansas City last weekend, also drew firm criticism from another former Tampa Bay quarterback: Bruce Gradkowski.

Gradkowski now works for SiriusXM NFL Radio and ProFootballFocus.com, where he’s tasked with breaking down quarterback film. That recent film study tells him Garoppolo isn’t the Jimmy G that dazzled 49ers fans late in the 2017 season.

“When I watch him throughout the preseason, and I have to grade these guys, he does not look like himself and he’s not as accurate as he was,” Gradkowski said. “I mean, he’s not forcing balls, he’s just missing on the back hip and accuracy issues like that.”

Bring on the inaccurate QB to face the Bucs at the Den of Depression (or wherever opening day might be relocated to). Joe loves the sound of that now that Bucs defenders actually are in the same zip code as receivers.

Joe knows many fans will say it’s not, but opening day against a suspect and banged up 49ers team absolutely is a must win.

  2. Pittsshore Says:

Nice work Joe. Let’s hope they wilt in this Tampa humidity. Wish the game was at 1

  3. TOM Says:

I know they say you can’t judge a season after one game, but in the case of the 49’s game I don’t think this is true. That first game will decide the fate of the Bucs season.

  4. Todd Says:

And wassup with our boy Kwon? Did he play at all this preseason?
Played in the third preseason game only. Looked quick. Played fearlessly. –Joe

sounds good now until we run into Jimmy G…lol….

as long as we focus on us, we should be fine….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    Sounds like……….. well, you know.

  7. SB Says:

I don’t give a dam about Jimmy G or the 49ers offense. I am worried about their Defensive Line. If the OL continues to play as it did in the preseason Jameis may not last the game.

  8. Waterboy Says:

He’d only played about 6-7 games before getting that big contract. Maybe we’re just starting to get a better sense of who he is as a player.

  9. EvolvingBucsFan Says:

I remember the last times we opened the season with the 9er’s at home, was the start of something Great.

Sapp tackled Jerry rice in the backfield and put him out of the season back in 97……..22 years ago, man it’s been a while.

  10. Cgmaster27 Says:

Wait ,you mean a qb ,who has left the patriots system and doesnt look as good? Shocker.

  11. DB55 Says:

Where’s all the Jimmy G fans? He was supposed to be light years ahead of the ATM. What happened?

  12. tickrdr Says:

Have been agreeing with you for awhile now.
Absolutely a must win game vs. Niners, or else likely 3 – 13 for the year.

This game for me is just too difficult to pick the winner, but a Bucs win would be fantastic and get this ship sailing at high speed. Go Bucs!

  14. BigHog Says:

Should have called back Colin K. ….then again we should have called up Colin K.

  15. Buddha Says:

No such thing as a must win the first game of the year. Absurd. We have a new offense and defense. I expect a slow start and a very good finish this year: 2-4, then 7-3. 9-7.

  16. Darin Says:

No its not. Can lose it then win the next 15. Theyre all basically must wins yet theyre not at all. Thats one reason we live n die with em. Bout to find out what theyre made of, Arians served.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

our Bucs should not have a problem with the 49ers at all. Notice I said Should not rather than will not. After all, we are..The Bucs. And with us it’s like Russian roulette. You never know. I’d be a tad more confident if we had a great pass rush. We shouldn’t need one against the 9ers though.
