Gabbert Lost With Dislocated Shoulder

August 23rd, 2019

Out

Look for the Bucs to add a quarterback by Sunday morning.

They’re in the QB market, Bucco Bruce Arians said moments ago after the Bucs beat the Browns at the Den Of Depression. No. 2 QB Blaine Gabbert went down with a dislocated left shoulder after being tackled on a scramble early in the second half. He clearly was in pain and was seen waving to the sidelines for help. Chatter at the stadium was that Gabbert could need surgeyr.

No. 3 QB Ryan Griffin has played well in preseason, but he turns 30 in November and has never thrown a regular-season pass.

It’s no surprise that Arians would want more insurance than a guy who hasn’t accomplished anything. Arians has said all along during his Bucs tenure that he’s re-loading, not rebuilding. Gabbert has made 48 NFL starts.

Joe wonders if the wild and wacky world of the Bucs soap opera will somehow see Jon Gruden keep his new pet Nathan Peterman as the Raiders’ backup and cut Mike Glennon, who would then find his way back to Tampa.

Bad news for Gabbert but good news for us.
    Griffin ain’t bad…..

  2. Bucfan593 Says:

I would be fine with Griffin as the only back up. We need so much depth everywhere else

  3. Race to 10 Says:

RG4 gonna go out dancing tonight

  4. Rayjay1122 Says:

Griffin will know the offense better than any new QB signed and he has produced so far. He should be Winston’s back up now. No brainer.

  5. K2 Says:

Griffin vs Glennon…about equal. Griffin might be better

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Tom Brady is 42. Griffin is still young at 30.

And frankly, I wouldn’t assume he’d be a bad option at backup just because he doesn’t have regular season experience. The kid is highly improved since Arians came in.

Arians talked about how things just fell into place for this job…well, they just fell into place for Ryan Griffin too.

Frankly, if Griffin doesn’t get the #2 job, then Arians is a hypocrite.

  7. DooshLaRue Says:

Aren’t Gabbert and Griffin the same age?
    Why mention it?
If he can play he can play.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Ryan Griffin would be a good #2…….and, he should have had some snaps in the NFL……he’s been on our roster for 4 years…..there were at least a couple of years where we were out of playoff contention early……that is when you send in a QB like Griffin to get some experience…….didn’t happen.

And, how is he ever going to get an NFL snap if he isn’t the #2 backup?

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    #1 backup, if you will>….

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I mean, what else does the guy have to do to prove himself? He was the best player through this preseason!

  11. firethecannons Says:

Glennon is ok but Ryan Griffen is# 2

in past games JW#3 would of been desperate to throw the ball open and get the drive moving and thereby throwing interception or spitting the ball out during a sack. So even though he was sacked multiple times, we lived to play another down. He looks better. Our O-line was awful and we have to get better somehow or we aint gonna have Jameis for long. Jameis needs to get his timimg with BP. Happy with defense overall.

  12. Rayjay1122 Says:

Even without the injury to Gabbert, I would have chose RG4 as Winston’s back up. He has shown a ton of improvement. Why keep pushing him down?

  13. Rayjay1122 Says:

Glennon? Please no. I can’t deal with him on the Bucs again. No better than Mclown.

  14. Frank Pillow Says:

It’s regrettable that an injury has to save a coach from his own bias. It doesn’t matter that Gabbert has NFL starts under his belt, not really. What the hell good does it do anyone if you’ve started games, performed up to your ceiling (which is mediocre, at best) and lost a poop ton of games? Give Griff a chance, coach!

  15. MadMax Says:

    Garrett Gilbert from the Browns!

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Arians has no reason to want Glennon.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Arians says he’s looking for a QB for Thursday night’s game because he doesn’t want to play Griffin much……will we see Testeverde?…….

  18. Rayjay1122 Says:

Look at it this way, RG4 has produced behind our awful stating OL’s backups. He should be a hall of famer for that feat. Lol

  19. SteelStudBuc Says:

Is there an editor employed here? The spelling mistakes are frequently missed… sometimes even whole words are missing.

  20. Jean Lafitte Says:

and the thing is, they don’t give Griff a chance he’s probably played his last game ever in the NFL this last preseason game if they don’t give the whole game to Testaverde Jr.. Tonight might’ve been his last.

  21. SteelStudBuc Says:

How old is Fitzpatrick? Kind of irrelevant don’t you think?

  22. Jean Lafitte Says:

    So true Rayjay

  23. BetterBucFan Says:

    Kaeperick time!

  24. Rayjay1122 Says:

Kaepernick. Lmao. The worst QB, American and human being of all time! Lmao

  25. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Where is the Beard when you need him?! Oh yeah, or HOF “backup” is a starting QB week 1 once again, starting for his NFL record eighth team.

  26. DB55 Says:

By my count that’s at least 4 broken shoulders by QBs that this oline has allowed or better yet produced.

  27. DB55 Says:

Why wouldn’t you bring in Kap for a try-out if nothing else?. While your at it why not sell the team to Jay-Z?

  28. Brandon Says:

Could be a blessing. If there is no additional damage to the shoulder, full recovery time is six weeks. Gabbert can be placed on IR and be recalled later in the season or kept there. This will allow us to keep 3 QBs but only have 2 on the active roster. I suspect Vinny’s son or a QB from Arian’s Cardinal days will be quickly signed to take the brunt of the snaps in our mast preseason game. Of course because a dislocated shoulder heals fully in six weeks, Gabbert may stay on active roster because he’d be 100% by week 5 and probably able to play by week 2 or 3.

  29. ModHairKen Says:

Great. Now the Bucs can be part of the Kaepernick idiocy. However, given this O Line, our QBs are going to be on their knees quite often so maybe he is well suited.

  30. Jean Lafitte Says:

They bring in Kaepernick and I’m done. That’s the kind of drama we don’t need.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

    Josh Freeman is available.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

They’re not bringing in Kaepernick, anyone talking about that piece of garbage is fake news.

  33. T REX Says:

Zero depth on this team. Over the season you will see that play out

  34. D-Rome Says:

I would never root for someone to get injured and it’s a shame he is. That said, as a player Gabbert is trash and Griffin deserves the job.

  35. teacherman777 Says:

    Griffin is awesome!

    Keep him!

  36. Defense Rules Says:

If our OLine plays like it did last night during the season then we’d better sign 4 or 5 backup QBs. Playing behind an OLine like that Jameis would have trouble lasting half a season.

  37. Buc4evr Says:

I’d give Griffin a chance, it’s not like the Bucs are going to win much this year with our pathetic O-line. Give him some reps in a regular season game and then decide.

  38. Lostinpa Says:

If there is any place for Kaepernick it is here. If our o-line lets Winston do a mobile QB might stay upright long enough to score.

  39. Mike Johnson Says:

    Calling Mr. Kapernick anybody?

  40. Slugglife Says:

Take a knee on that stupid idea.

  41. Slugglife Says:

    Bring in Tebow.

  42. Hodad Says:

Forget about bringing in QB’s, bring in some O linemen who can actually block someone!!

  43. Kevinator24 Says:

Come on guys, it’s gunna be Vincent Testaverde who gets the call. I wouldn’t mind Griffin being our #2 for the year. Trust him WAY more than Gabbert.

  44. Howard Cosell Says:

    he was a real american

  45. Nate Says:

Ryan griffin has showed he can lead teams to a win in preseason give the man a chance winsto. Has t showed me anything except the same stuff and he hasnt fumbled yet i will give him that

  46. Nate Says:

Trade winston and pierrie paul for a oline man and somehow bring in clowney with cap space will be fine with griffin sign kapernick as back up problem solved

  47. Buccfan37 Says:

I’ll just go with the Browns are touted as playoff favorites by many and seeing that D convinces me they likely win their division. Changing of the guard from Steelers or Ravens.

  48. Iamabuc Says:

Hey Joe, your voy Johny Manziel is available!…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  49. Iamabuc Says:

    *boy

  50. Nick2 Says:

Griffin should be the number two either way. He’s done nothing but perform well in the last two preseasons and deserves a shot if Winston goes down. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that but if so let him play. It’s funny but he kind of reminds me of the the guy he watched for two years. Questions of a weak arm but all he does is perform. Either way Gabbert and his 48 starts of futility will give us no hope Griffin does.

  51. BA FAN Says:

The Browns third QB was the mvp of the Orlando team coached by Steve Spurrier and he is a great QB. If the Browns only keep two grab him. Under no circumstance bring back Albatross Glennon and Kaepernick would cost you to lose a lot of your fan base! If Gabbert comes back it should be as the third QB but we would be better off giving him an injury settlement. Better to take back our former Mississippi State QB as soon as he is well as our third QB who has more potential than Gabbert and would be a lot cheaper.

  52. BA FAN Says:

Now that BA has trained Jameis to avoid turnovers work on improving his long ball accuracy and your makeover is done!
