Filling In For Lavonte David

August 6th, 2019

Bucs LB Deone Bucannon.

Bucco Bruce Arians sure didn’t seem overly concerned with star linebacker Lavonte David and his “little meniscus tear.”

Joe is guessing not all Bucs fans are sleeping comfortably tonight.

For the immediate future, Arians suggested an under-the-radar free agent pickup this offseason will take David’s place. That would be pass rushing specialist Deone Bucannon.

“Deone stepped in for right now,” Arians said yesterday after Monday morning’s practice. “We’ve got about four or five guys [that can fill in]. There is really good competition at the inside linebacker position. All of those guys are position flexible, but Deone has jumped in first.”

Clearly, Joe is no doctor but when hearing “tear” in relation to a knee  gives Joe the shivers. Research last night reveals David may have what is known as a “meniscectomy.” Per OrthoInfo, this procedure “requires less time for healing — approximately 3 to 4 weeks.”

At the end of the day, Joe really doesn’t care what the issue is so long as David is healthy and ready to rock and roll by the time the Bucs host the 49ers to kick off the season.

Wow. 3 more seasons like his first 7 and he’s second only to Seau’s 20 season total in career run/pass stuffs. Sad that the Bucs have done so little around that production, hope it changes this year

  2. Gerald McBezos Says:

I’ve never seen that stat referenced before…

That said, the top players on that list in “stuffs per season” since 1982 average around 10 stuffs per season.

The glaring outlier is Lavonte David, who averages over 12 stuffs per season.

So, without knowing exactly what the referenced stat measures exactly, it seems David is the best of all time since 1982 at it.

    So that’s good.

  3. Buccaroo Says:

He’ll show up! David just needs a tune-up!

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Don’t forget the 8 basement titles and captain of some of the worst defensive units in nfl history…. all those meaningless stats don’t over compensate for mentally weak play and basement titles…. object is to win not accumulate meaningless numbers…. cant cherry pick stats without including wins or lack there of.

  5. BigHog Says:

Up this morning to to start my day with a meaningless dump!…feels so good to be able to do such a beautiful thing…getting rid of a Tmax-Turd!

I imagine by now the seasoned head coach realizes he took over a team that has absolutely no chance of recovering. If players can’t make it through training camp what possibility is there for them to make it through a season where there are high impact collisions every play? By mid-season they’ll be hiring talent off the street. Contraction, maybe?

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

I’m as excited about this defense as anyone. HOWEVER, David has been a total non-factor for years. Sure, he makes occasional plays that make you sit up and take notice but I think he has as much to prove as one of the few elder Bucs still on the roster.
Heck, we cut one of the top 5, STATISTICALLY, DTs in football.

  8. #1bucsfan Says:

He’s a stud an will come back an have a great season no worries here PS. T M A X I P A D has no clue what he is talking about dude is a troll an a cancer to the world plz someone get this cry baby a happy meal

  9. JA Says:

    Meniscectomy.
Obviously “tomy” is defined medically as “surgical removal of” and I’m guessing, without venturing too far out on a limb, that “meniscec” means meniscus.
Unless I’m way off here, if David had that procedure he’s going to be out for awhile.
Also, they virtually halted full meniscus removals (unless absolutely necessary) in lieu of repair or partial removal years ago. This was done because patients, although healthy and functional after the full removal, were suffering painful arthritic conditions later in life.
    What gives?

    @tmaxipad

What were you saying about Lavonte?

    Check the Archives.

    I created “tmaxipad.”

    Boom!

Jah bless Lavonte with his healing process.

    “Yehoshua (Jesus) was a HEALER.”

    Go Bucs!

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

David’s time with the Bucs will be ending before too long, so I hope a backup jumps on this opportunity. Now that Jack Cichy is healthy, I’m hoping he shows up. If not him, then someone.

Now would be such a great time for Kendell to return.

  12. tmaxcon Says:

lvd had 1 good year under schiano and is a self admitted mental midget that chokes when it matters most and can’t recover from bad calls or big plays… came out of his damn mouth ladies….

you people sure love some mediocrity and no one and I mean no one confuses popularity with greatness like a bucfan

  13. Brandon Says:

A meniscus trim is not a big deal at all right now. It’s three to five years down the road when it will start to become a problem again. And again in 10-15 years if the meniscus continues to wear and erode. Not always, but a meniscus trim is often a prelude to a knee replacement 20 years later.

  14. NOSBOS Says:

Interesting LVD ranks higher than lue keekly on yet another list but here in Bucland keekly gets waaayy more love than LVD. Funny because LVD is the only player in the NFL since 2012 (y’all familiar, the year he and lue keekly were drafted) with the 500,20,10 and 10 stat line. I will continue reminding y’all of that.

  15. Gerald McBezos Says:

David is putting up the same numbers Derrick Brooks did, to this point in his career. McCoy’s production is 50-60% of what Sapp did.

We’ve been acting like the guy we talk about the most iwho makes the most money s our best defensive player, and that simply hasn’t ever consistently been the case.

David is the best player to play for this franchise since Brooks retired. No, Revis doesn’t count.
