Lavonte David Not Happy With News

May 20th, 2019

Not down with GMC move.

The move just about every Bucs fan expected happened tonight when the Bucs announced they were washing their hands of stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

That didn’t mean it was a popular decision.

GMC’s teammate Lavonte David tweeted out an angry emoji in response. Nothing more. Initially.

Of course, the GMC haters are having a jubilee with the news and they came back at David. They picked the wrong fight as David stuck up for his former teammate.

So there is one Bucs player that is anything but happy about McCoy’s release.

Joe is eagerly waiting for the next podcast by ex-Bucs lineman and popular radio personality Ian Beckles, who likely will run laps around his home studio in celebration. No one in the Tampa Bay area wanted to dance on GMC’s grave more than Beckles, who for years has howled at the moon for the Bucs to run off GMC.

His wish and the haters’ wish finally came true tonight.

I don’t understand why everyone saw this as a surprise or is upset. We went 5-11 back to back and expect absolutely no veteran roster changes. Our arguably best defensive player would be considered mediocre to most teams. 13 mill a year for 6 sacks?? Top 15 DTs make that money and produce more

  2. Tbbucs3 Says:

Not easy losing a longtime teammate but it’s a business and the move had to be done.

  3. DooshLaRue Says:

Then I guess you’ll be next to go next year LVD.

Like ya, but you need to worry about yourself and your play this year bro.
Excuses are gone along with Softie93.

  4. LakeLand Says:

Deep down inside Lavonte probably wish it was him.

    9 years a Buc

    Sounds like a horror movie

  5. Timbo Slice Says:

It’s always hard to lose a work friend. Tough break McCoy/David.

On a different note, BA may not have wanted a rebuild, but it looks like his hand is being forced. Hoping he toughs it out and tries to make lemonade out of the lemons that have come his way since joining. I’m scared he’s just padding the bank account and he’s just coasting during his time here.

Appreciate your ongoing coverage Joe, I’m new here but love the site.

  6. Bogiedr Says:

Dude’s fault was the he was no Warren Sapp, very unfair, there will never be another 99!! GMC, go get a ring … can you say Saints? Better yet, team up with his good buddy Michael Bennett in NE, (There goes Joe, going nuts about releasing for no good reason!!!!!) I am sure Bennett is already lobbying for GMC. Haters, we will chat at the end of the season!!!!!

  7. Zzbuc Says:

Come on LVD, you know Joe this works!! You are a grown men!!

  8. Clw JB Says:

Had to happen..get ready LVD, your cap number is going to be too high very soon also

It’s the lay of the land in the NFL

  9. Lubby Smith Says:

English, Lavonte, do you speak it?

  10. Bradentonbuc Says:

    No respect

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Have some appreciation for the friendship they likely developed…but, LVD will realize it’s a business…..not a social fraternity.

  12. Bird Says:

Clowns above now taking shots at LVD

    You guys are pretty classy

  13. Buc believer Says:

Better just worry about your own self or you will be next!

  14. Bird Says:

Do some of you guys root for anyone or anything positive on this site ?

    Oh
But I’m a buc fan and have a right to whine like a little girl
    Bunch of babies

  15. macabee Says:

Careful, careful. This could be deja vu all over again. There’s a LB in the 2020 draft that’s being touted as the next Brian Urlacher named Paddy Fisher/Northwestern. They say it’s not a rebuild but could turn out that way. However, I do understand a close teammate’s remorse. Go Bucs!

  16. mark2001 Says:

I think this is a clear message… you don’t produce, for the price you are paid, and you are history. Wake up call, Bucs. The days of softee Koetter are long gone. Buckle up the chin straps.

  17. Race to 10 Says:

Hahaha lavonte david is the same dude who threw a temper tantrum when love Smith was fired lol don’t. Convince him it’s a good thing tell him to be quiet and play ball, this is above his pay grade. I sure hope the Glazers were smart enough to step in and say make a decision and live with it.

  18. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Have to believe he got an offer to stay but why take a pay cut to stay here

  19. Jason Parker Says:

Leonard Williams in a trade or free agent Ndamukong Suh.

  20. Buc believer Says:

Bird you and I have had differences in the past and I respect your takes and also your loyalty. But there is NO away to convince me that what hattonight was not a step in the right direction and Lavonte crying about it is wrong and he should just worry about himself and start to produce for a change.

  21. Unimpressed Says:

    2-14

  22. mark2001 Says:

No one wants to lose a nice guy teammate. But this is more thant that. This team requires a rebuild…produce or get out…and Bruce isn’t playing. Anyone that doesn’t produce will be history…. Hope that won’t be you next, Lavonte.

  23. DooshLaRue Says:

    I’m a Bucs fan.
    I really like:

    Chris Godwin
    Cameron Brate
    JPP
    Ali Marpet

and I think I like newer players like:

    Devin White
    Jordan Whitehead
    Sean Bunting

See, I’m not looking to dog on all our players….. just the puzzys and crybabies!

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Finally!!! Most JBF posters agree…..

Well…..many like GMC but think this was a necessary move.
Many dislike GMC and think this was a necessary move….

So, most JBF posters agree….this was a necessary move.

  25. tmaxcon Says:

go away with cancer93 lvd, you co captained some of the worst defensive units in nfl history and have had 1 good season in your career…. overrated!!!!

  26. Bird Says:

    Buc Believer

It was time for McCoy to go at 13 mil. I agree with that and said the same in posts.
Arians handled it poorly though .

All Lavonte was doing is sticking up for a friend. Those 2 have been on Team the longest. Maybe Dotson too.

To make fun of Lavonte for sticking up for his boy is classless in my opinion. All I’m saying man

  27. rrsrq Says:

LVD is seen JPP, Kwon and now GMC go, these were his teammates and friends, so you really think he is going to celebrate, what he will Be is professional on the field, but the 🥜 that are going after him are insanely ignorant. The problem with sports, is every fan and sideline wanna. E wants to crack on these guys who worked hard and very talented at their craft, because I am sure most of you would love it if you were under a microscope on you J-O-B

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    DooshLaRue

Can we add Carl Nassib to that list?

  29. Larry Woods Says:

Crazy how everyone is on the this is business tip but not once have they said he should’ve been traded last year so we could at least get a ROI. Licht should’ve been shown the door along with Koetter and the glazers too smh

  30. GauisfrakkinBaltar Says:

LVD needs to point the blame squarely at his GM.

  31. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

If Arians wasn’t the coach I would be convinced the team was tanking for Tua, or someone else with the number one pick. Arians has to be regretting this decision. While he will be able to pad his bank account, his image will be tarnished when the Bucs win one or two games next year. All the guys saying coaching will turn it around are going to turn on him very quickly when reality sets in.

  32. Bird Says:

  33. Tbbucs3 Says:

Maybe some of the clowns taking shots at LVD should know that Lavonte David isn’t viewing the Bucs from a fans perspective. He is a player who just lost a teammate he’s been going to battle with every Sunday for 9 years. The last thing LVD is thinking about is contracts and the Bucs salary cap situation, players don’t think that way.

Some of y’all on here are really pathetic, personally attacking Bucs who are upset about losing a teammate.

  34. westernbuc Says:

Licht totally bungled this. Should’ve released him before free agency. Didn’t draft a replacement, burned more picks on corners, and used Gerald’s contract as an excuse to do nothing in free agency.

Let’s be clear, Licht gave Gerald this “expensive” contract where he pays a 31 year old thirteen million. Anyone who thinks Gerald was overpaid, ask Licht why he thought giving a 31 year old that much money was a good idea.

Our defensive line is barren, his first round corner looks like he’s about to get benched, and we just got rid of Koetter/Monken, who orchestrated the greatest passing offense in team history. We have no running backs worth spit, even though that’s been an issue for years, and we just hired a coach who’s sole purpose is to salvage Jameis Winston’s career, a guy Licht picked #1 overall.

There’s no reason Licht should have a job. This is worse than 2-14, it’s worse than anything Lovie ever did.

  35. Pittsshore Says:

They should have packaged in JW. We could have picked up some DB help.

  36. Evo2706 Says:

Its not that he wanted GMC gone. He wanted him to play better. If GMC was the leader he said he was. Play better on the field. Make an impact play. That’s all beckles and most fans wanted.

  37. DooshLaRue Says:

    @TBBF

    Nassib?
    Absolutely!

    How did I forget him?

  38. GauisfrakkinBaltar Says:

@ tbbucs3: nothing will change here. Because the ownership here allows this type of toxicity.

  39. Buc believer Says:

    Bird
I understand that players develop relationships that hopefully will last their lifetime. That’s the way us fans feel about our team. When us say US fans I include yourself and myself and every other poster on here who is rational and not just a troll trying to get under skin. With that said I don’t think I made fun of Lavonte all I said was he should just play his game and not worry about anyone else because he could be next. That’s one of the things I like about this coach… he doesn’t care who you are or your status if you don’t play and play well your gone.

  40. Billy_43 Says:

This site easily wins the award for classless PO dunk whiny babies.

Maybe if an article on ” I hope Henderson doesn’t thrash us” LMAO or ” Tighter Windows now that Humphries is gone” wasn’t ALWAYS on the mind?

How about a deep dive into what could be.
    STILL something Blockbuster coming.

  41. Old Sombrero Kid Says:

  42. Nick Says:

    *******He can go next. *******

You should be tired of losing.

  43. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

LVD if you wanted him to stay the d should’ve stopped giving up the booty every week

It’s a production league you don’t produce to your level of pay you gotta go

Who the hell is Ian Beckles and why would anyone care about his Podcast?

  50. Lakeland Steve Says:

What a bunch of classless jerks! I believed for a couple of years now that McCoy needed to go. But to insult him and Lavonte David for sticking up for his buddy is wrong. All of you tough guys hiding behind a computer talking smack when, let’s be honest not one of you would say the things you have in here to either McCoy or David’s faces. David knows what time it is and also knows his cap number next year might push him out the door too. This is their livelihood, it’s how they earn a living. What if one of you coward posters goes to work tomorrow and your boss says, I know you have been here almost ten years but I have to fire you so I can get someone in here who is younger and I don’t have to pay as much. Wouldn’t you and your buddies who work with you be a little angry? I know this is professional sports and without the fans these teams don’t exist so it is different, but let these guys go through the same emotions any of us would if we lost our job or were fired. Instead there are a bunch of keyboard cowboys out there who have to make themselves feel better by running down guys whose jock straps they couldn’t carry on there best day.

    9 years a Buc

    Sounds like a horror movie

    Brilliant

  52. Red86 Says:

One thing none of you can’t honestly say is that the “haters” didn’t tell the truth about the lack of production in the 2nd half of games. Even B.A. said it. Sad that telling the truth get you label as a hater. But hey i call a spade a spade no matter what.

Fan didn’t get him release his tapes and salary did.

  53. Defense Rules Says:

This whole sordid affair was very poorly handled from start to finish. That’s a reflection on Arians; that’s a reflection on Licht; that’s a reflection on McCoy. Nobody came out a winner. GMC toiled for 9 yrs here & never even sniffed the playoffs, although he has become quite wealthy in the process. I like Bucco Bruce, but the way that he & Licht handled this ‘negotiation’ … in the media … was shabby. The players WILL take notice, just like Lavonte did.

But on the good news side, Bucs now have $13 mil available to pay their remaining rookie class AND hopefully have about $8 mil left over to find GMC’s replacement OR do something else with. Suh wasn’t the answer for the Rams last year & he wouldn’t be the answer for us this year … releasing 1 high-priced old guy for another high-priced old guy doesn’t sound like a Win-Win to me.

  54. D-Rome Says:

Watch out Lavonte, the slack jawed mouth breathers will be coming after you next.

  55. Bucsfanman Says:

I’ll say it again: The Bucs are in no position to allow even average players to walk out of the building.
    This move was about $$$.
I suppose fans think that Gholston will replace GMC’s stats?! Allen?!

  56. Bucsfanman Says:

Defense Rules- “Fans” will tell you Suh is a better player because he’s “meaner”. Yet, stats and facts say otherwise. PRODUCTION>attitude. Hard pass on Suh.

  57. GhostofSchiano Says:

It’s a business lvd, produce or be replaced by someone who will, simple as that.

  58. Bucsneedhelp Says:

I guess if he doesn’t play at pro bowl level this year he will be gone too. Then they can pay their pro bowl quarterback 30 mil a year.

  59. Ed Says:

McCoy was a very good defensive lineman in his prime except for the fact that when he was in his prime his shoulder and other assorted upper body injuries kept him from being the best defensive player in the league. I believe he never fully realized his potential because of a lack of upper body strength. To be a great defensive lineman you need more than speed and quickness, no doubt about it he is one of the quickest defensive linemen to ever play the game. Yet from a number of tackles, quarterback hits, sacks, pressures he simply was a good player, not the superstar all Buc fans were looking for. He will always be linked with Suh as both drafted at same time. Different players, Suh earlier in his career was a superstar. He faded when he hit free agency. McCoy played at high level longer than Suh. His past 2 years his play declined significantly. Now he is a middle of the road defensive lineman. NFL GM’s are bad at valuing players, Licht is really bad, Dominick was worse.

  60. Bucnjim Says:

Whether you like McCoy and or LVD the fact is this has been one of the worst defenses in the HISTORY of this franchise and they have both been captains. What stands out the most to me is the amount of times this D has straight up QUIT mid game. It’s happened to each of the last 4 coaching staffs so get young and change the quitting culture!

  61. RustyRhinos Says:

    Hey, Clw JB
“It’s the lay of the land in the NFL”

Sure is especially when you have to pay the most NFL ready QB to come out of college in years, who has to have a decision on this seasons play that may make him 22+ million a season for the next 5 seasons. If he earns it after the big contract year season. In my opinion there will be a few more releases if we have to pay that every season for the next 5 seasons. I hope he has a good season I just am not excited about the prospect of who gets cut due to that overpriced contract.

    Go Bucs!

  62. bucsfan561 Says:

For fans to think Gerald isn’t getting it done its crazy that teams still double & triple team him.. He influences so many plays that allows others to get QB sacks (like JPP & Nassib)… Its crazy that the first yr the bucs get him a legitimate coach & help on the line that the fumbke the ball & cut em.. But yall gone see real fast how much his presence is missed when qbs are playing 7 on 7 out there like back in the lovie days

  63. T REX Says:
