JPP’s Status Change GMC’s?

Sticking around?

Now that the Bucs will be desperate for any sort of quarterback pressure with the news that Jason Pierre-Paul’s season is in jeopardy with a serious neck injury, does this change the status of in-limbo stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy?

As we know, the Bucs have been in a contract squabble/holdout with GMC this offseason with the team sticking to the line that they don’t know if GMC will return and GMC taking to social media to gripe about someone or some people griping about his work ethic.

Despite JPP breaking the Simeon Rice curse of not having a double-digit sack season after 10 years by producing 12 1/2 sacks last year, it was GMC — not JPP — who had the most quarterback hits with 24.

Right now if you get rid of GMC, your two best pass rushers are a guy who the then-winless Browns didn’t think was good enough to stick around as a backup, Carl Nassib, and a rookie inside linebacker who has yet to take any sort of snap for the Bucs.

The word “brutal” springs to mind.

Yes, GMC’s contract is hefty at $13 million and sadly the Bucs are in salary cap hell.

Did JPP’s uncertain status make GMC’s status certain?

Curious that on the day after GMC beat his chest that he’s a worker and dedicated to his craft, he posted video on Instagram of being at an NBA game in Houston. Last Joe checked, that’s not an easy drive from Tampa.

(Yes, Joe’s being sarcastic and knows full well GMC works his rear end off. Joe’s seen it first hand.)

Did GMC get word yesterday that he would be brought back to the Bucs so he decided to treat his son to an NBA game and let out a giant sigh of relief he won’t have to move?

  1. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Still wouldn’t pay GMC $13 mil…..even if we lost our entire Dline…..but he is certainly worth $9……

  2. Guinness8 Says:

Maybe he was traded to the Texans for Watt!

  3. Dominican 🇩🇴 Bucs Fan Says:

JPP was the only capable Body able to go inside on 3rd Downs and Rush the passer from the 3-Tech on the roster. This is getting worse by the minute.
Next post from Joebucsfan.com would sound like this: Now Josh Allen value to the Bucs is even bigger of a need

  4. Anonymous Says:

i mean we also have shaq barret but yea i see your point

  5. Bird Says:

    McCoy probably stays now
    Terrible buc luck.
Jpp career probably done. Neck surgery for a trench player that already lost fingers.

    Who is out there ?
    Ziggy Ansah ?

  6. Bird Says:

We don’t have guys driving in cars late night

  7. Bruce Blahak Says:

Oh! just lovely…we lose JPP and get the whiny, soft ice cream man back. Could any scenario be any worse? Another f’n curse!

  8. Bird Says:

We don’t have good luck with guys driving in cars late night

  9. Brandon Says:

We have to pay him. He can still be cut next offseason. Either way, today’s news solidifies we are drafting a DE switch the first 2 picks next year. I hope we sign another Nassib player off the street or trade for one. Suh is still a free agent, but he plays DT.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

This injury doesn’t change the fact that we are entering a new era on defense and the old leader is no longer needed.

This is Devin team now. Don’t need Gerald clinging around thinking he still runs the show. He still needs to git.

  11. Totally Exonerated Says:

Florio had a premonition about the wrong injury

  12. Sarasota Garey Says:

How much money do we owe JPP if he has a non football injury?

  13. Marine Buc Says:

Joe. Please stop being a putt and messing with my posts. You are being as stupid as JPP holding fireworks in his hand and driving like an idiot.

  14. pelbuc Says:

Just cut GMC and try to get 1 or 2 FA Dlinemen like Onsah for less than what GMC wants. Even if JPP is lost, bringing back GMC would be a huge mistake. GMC and JPP are not the future of this defense.

  15. Marine Buc Says:

Oops. Sorry Joe. Im meant to call you a putz not a putt…lol…

  16. DB55 Says:

    Cut McIceCream

  17. Sarasota Garey Says:

    I rather go get Suh.

  18. Mike Says:

Assuming Bucs don’t have to pay JPP’s salary, they should be able to keep McCoy and pay their rookies.

  19. Marine Buc Says:

I still don’t want GMC here. This team will suck even worse with him here. Get rid of Bat Boy asap…

  20. DBS Says:

I love people crying for Suh. Same people that were crying to get fat Albert. There is a reason Suh is moving from team to team and not being kept.

  21. D-Rome Says:

Even though I think the Bucs should have drafted a DE in the first round I will not use this injury to lay any blame on Backstabbin’ Jason Licht. I think it’s absurd to do so. That being said, now the advantage is with Gerald McCoy. GMC is still an excellent player. Backstabbin’ Jason Licht has essentially played a game of chicken with McCoy’s camp and now that JPP may be done for the year it turns out GMC won that game. This, of course, is another gaffe by the backstabber.

  22. JimmyJack Says:

McCoy has Captained teams that quit. Multiple times.

Leadership does matter. Dump McCoy and the team improves.

Stats aren’t everything……Gerald don’t even put up stats no more anyways.

  23. Jean Lafitte Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation Says:

Pressure? According to Joe, he can hardly get dressed after each game much less be at least 90% ready for the next. This team is doomed and it’s because of a lack of insight. We had 2 true pass rushers going into our draft. That’s it.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

D-Rome…….I doubt it’s ever been a game of chicken.

I bet Bruce’s first order of business was to dump the Captain of this disgraceful defense. The only way to rebuild it is to get the old leadership out and get new leaders.

McCoy is not a excellent player like you claim but that has nothing to do with it……………If I’m right y’all will soon realize that Gerald was never wanted by Bruce. There was never a negotiation cause it aren’t about salary. It’s about leadership.

  25. Joe Says:

According to Joe, he can hardly get dressed after each game much less be at least 90% ready for the next.

Will never forget that. Dude was so beat up he could barely get dressed. Only seen that one other time from a player.

You see something like that, you get an appreciation for the physical abuse these dudes go through in a game.

  26. Marine Buc Says:

    @ D-Rome

“Gerold McCoy is still an excellent player”. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. That is a good one bro!!! Dry that comment out and you can fertilize my garden with it… Come on man!!!

  27. Hodad Says:

Cut both McCoy, and JPP. Use the money to sign our draft choices, and maybe one or two top F.A. still available. Ziggy two years younger then JPP, has all his fingers, and toes, and no fractured neck. Maybe use the Money saved from McCoy, and JPP, and we can get it done .

  28. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Joe

Spare me the BS! I could barely get dressed for a college division IAA game. This guy is getting MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!! Get the F out a here with this BS bro!!!

  29. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

I think we will end up re-working GMC’s contract. Give him upfront money and fill it with incentives that will allow him to make up the difference on annual value. With JPP out we cannot afford to lose another talented player. McCoy may not be a top 3 DT anymore but he’s still better than anything we could replace him with.

We have several guys we can cut, guys who should’ve already been cut IMO, to pay for our picks and GMC.

Terrible news about JPP though. I just hope he is ok and it doesn’t affect his everyday life

  30. Cobraboy Says:

Cut both JPP and McCoy, and you get over $20 million in instant cap relief, enough to sign the rooks AND maybe a FA DT or DE…

  31. Cobraboy Says:

    @Hodad: just saw your post.

  32. Chris Simms 2020 GM Says:

I don’t see any change to GMC’s status. He’s a DT, JPP is an edge rusher.

Now Gump will find out just rare and valuable drafting a premier DE and locking him up for 5 years is.

    Lee was absolutely correct.

    Fire Licht tonight.

  33. Buc believer Says:

We will be winless this year

  34. Jean Lafitte Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation Says:

I think Ansah would thrive in this Fla. weather

  35. Joe Says:

I think Ansah would thrive in this Fla. weather

    ????

Ansah plays (at least) nine games a year in a dome with the Lions. Weather in upper Midwest is still warm in September.

  36. Marine Buc Says:

Ansah sucks. I would rather have JPP with a broken neck and GMAC with a broken heart…

Ansah sucks. I would rather have JPP with a broken neck and GMAC with a broken heart…

So you are basically saying that you appreciate the current basement title run the glazers have put togheter

  38. Jean Lafitte Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation Says:

Fla. weather is more indicative to Africa’s weather. Just saying. I’m from Haiti and I don’t like the cold weather and I’m sure our African brother feels the same.

  39. Marine Buc Says:

    @ tax

Yeah you genius. Check all my comments. That’s exactly what I’m saying… wow… SMFH…

  40. tmaxcon Says:

    i was being sarcastic sir!

  41. Brandon Says:

And this is why you draft a Josh Allen. You’re one mishap away from having ZERO pass rush.

  42. Maddog Says:

Wish they would either put him to work or cut him, this isngetting silly

  43. Bruce Blahak Says:

It’s a full blown “Defensive Rebuild” …Option now is cut JPP and GMC. Full on youth movement. Be better for the team in the long run…

  44. Marine Buc Says:

Let’s be real here. They tried to trade GMAC but no one in their right minds except the Bucs would pay him $13 million. They will be releasing Bat Boy soon. Regardless of the JPP situation. We will running a ton of 3-4 this year anyway.

  45. Lord Cornelius Says:

There’s really nothing in FA worth much. Suh is going to loaf here. Ansah more a 4-3 DE like JPP but will cost a bunch and be a band-aid at best.

Maybe Nick Perry OLB/DE but he looks like he’s toast.

This franchise is so terrible man

  46. 813bucboi Says:

    i cant believe it….

    its a bucs life….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  47. Buc4evr Says:

I think it’s time for Bucco Bruce to realize this truly a rebuilding year. And oh while we cut GMC and JPP, get rid of Gump. Just don’t blame JW when he is trying to come back from 20 down in the first quarter. Bucs= perpetual dumpster fire.

  48. Defense Rules Says:

Bruce Blahak … Despite what BA& Licht said, we’ve had a “full blown Defensive Rebuild” going on since the start of free agency. Check the roster.

Having a team of all youngsters sounds great, until folks realize that you’ve essentially got a college team having to play against ‘the BIG BOYS’. This defense has lacked FIELD LEADERSHIP for at least this past decade. I was blessed to have worked for & learn from some incredible leaders, and one of the key characteristics they all had IMO was that they held people ACCOUNTABLE.

On the Bucs, Warren Sapp held players ACCOUNTABLE. So did Derrick Brooks. And so did several others. GMC’s a very good player IMO, but not a great leader because he doesn’t hold teammates ACCOUNTABLE. Neither does LVD. Nor Jameis BTW. Kwon tried, but there was often too much bluster involved IMO. And besides, I’m sure that it’s hard for veterans to accept a 22-year-old matador as their ‘savior’. JPP I think was coming close to filling that FIELD LEADERSHIP void, and this might’ve been the year he took the reins. If Bucs don’t fix that FIELD LEADERSHIP issue, especially on defense & in each position group, this’ll be a LOOOONG year.

  49. ATrain Says:

JPPs accident is Joes wet dream

Yaaa another reason to keep this average overpaid DT who cares less about winning

YES GMC COULD CARELESS ABOUT WINNING JUST LOOK AT HIS SODELINE DANCES OR LOCKERROOM SMILES AFTER A LOSS

  50. GetOverIt Says:

See if a modest restructuring can be done on GMC. Make nice and bring him back. JPP to non-football injury list… Cut Will Gholston… 3 moves that solve the salary cap problem (for this year anyway).

  51. unbelievable Says:

How many seasons in a row have we blanked on playing just DEs the entire season, and praying they both stay healthy?

    Too fkn many!

GOOD THING WE DIDNT WASTE A PREMIUM PICK ON A DEFENSIVE END!!!

    Right? Rightttttttt?

  52. unbelievable Says:

*banked on just 2 DEs playing the entire season… ^

  53. BucsBall80 Says:

If McCoy was lashing out at the coach then he is gone. His locker is already packed up. They need to figure out if JPP is going to miss this season. If so I think we dont have to pay him all his money. Because he got hurt not playing football. Ziggy and Sue are the biggest names left. Im trying to stay optimistic. It starts up front on both sides of the ball. So if we lose both of those guys. Wheres the pass rush? JPP might be gone next year. And he probably wont play this year. Its a Buc life.

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Free Agent DEs out there:

    • Nick Perry
Age 29. Sack Career Annual Average: 4.6.
Injured at some point during all 7 of his career years.

    • Ezekiel Ansah
Age 29. Sack Career Annual Average: 8.
Currently injured. Expected back mid training camp (heard that before). Injured in each of the last 3 seasons.

    • Shane Ray
Age 25. Sack Career Annual Average: 3.5
Only one full season free of injuries…3 years ado.

    • Derrick Morgan
Age 30. Sack Career Annual Average: 4.9 (17 in last 3 years)
Missed 3 games with shoulder injury last season. Only two injury free season out of 9.

    Defensive Tackles

    • Ndamukong Suh
Age 32. Sack Career Annual Average: 6.2 (5 per year over the last 4 years)
(In comparison for the McCoy haters, GMC Averages 6.1 sacks per year for his career, but over the last 4 years? Average is 6.9…that’s .8% sacks better than Suh the last 4 years.)
Extremely healthy…some say because he takes plays off.

    • Muhammad Wilkerson
Age 29. Sack Career Annual Average: 5.6
Missed 13 games last year due to injury. Has not had a full season since 2015.

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    BucsBall80 Says
“If McCoy was lashing out at the coach then he is gone.”

Aside from being pure speculation on your part, McCoy was addressing the fans in his video…no member of the Bucs staff has questioned his commitment.

And actually, if you take a moment to think about it, the only ones to state there are any troubles between him and the team are media (speculation) and fans (worse than speculation).

  56. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    unbelievable Says
“How many seasons in a row have we blanked on playing just 2 DEs the entire season, and praying they both stay healthy?”

    Too many.

But if it is any (slim) comfort, the Bucs have 9 defensive ends on the team right at this moment. Of course, some are future cuts, but you never know.

My concern is that this will buy William Gholston another year…him being here is a waste of a roster spot and an opportunity someone else is not getting, because he will never be any good.

I want him gone more than I want Spence gone.
