GMC Talks Bucs (But Not Much)

May 11th, 2019

Speaks.

There is one question Joe is getting a lot of lately and it has nothing to do with the neck of defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.

What is the question?

What the hell is going on with Gerald McCoy?

Well, aside from cutting an Instagram video mocking people who fall for the massive sales job of drinking tequila and eating tortilla chips and salsa on Cinco de Mayo and ragging on an unknown critic, we haven’t heard anything from GMC about his status with the Bucs.

Until now.

GMC, who has not shown up for voluntary workouts with the Bucs since offseason training began on April 1, was cornered by Mike Cairns of Spectrum Sports at Dick Vitale’s annual gala in Sarasota to raise money for the V Foundation.

There, Cairns directly asked GMC if he will play for the Bucs this year. You can watch his answer below.

So the drama continues. Will he or won’t he?

We need players who are all in and not mentally weak players who feel sorry for themselves.

Veterans don’t suddenly change at this point. Gerald Mccoy is what he is, a stat padder who gets 6 meaningless sacks a season. Suh > Mccoy because Suh actually plays a full game and doesn’t get manhandled in the run.

  2. Sport Says:

The negotiation continues…. GMC’s physical response shows me he still has options and a final decision has not yet been made. He still has a pretty good position. Especially with JPP’s injury.

  3. DB55 Says:

    I miss him already 🍦

  4. #1bucsfan Says:

We need all the help we can get

  5. bucs4ya Says:

Defense has been bad with him no one on that defense deserves 13million. Cut him and use the money somewhere else. He’s ok with losing time to change the mindset of the team. I don’t believe it can be done with him on the team.

  6. MisterBuc Says:

The guy above who thinks Suh is better than McCoy is truly an imbecile.. If you think McCoy is a liability, instead of an asset to ANY TEAM in the league, you don’t know much about football. We are a better team with him here & are lucky to have a player like McCoy on the Bucs. A part of me actually wants McCoy to go to one of our division rivals and wreck our linemen. The same ones that are trying to run him out will be the same ones saying how we let another good one go win a Superbowl on another team and how Licht was an idiot for letting him go.

    Typical fair weather fans!!!!!

  7. LakeLand Says:

    What a dysfunctional franchise
A 5-11 team in cap hell afraid to free up $13 million
    SMDH

  8. Nick Says:

He’s only about the $$$ we given this clown over 100 million he’s given us zero you think he could do the right thing. We let Mr. Brooks walk this clown needs to go !

  9. richbucsfan Says:

This season is shaping up to be a total disaster. Perhaps the NFL should contract and drop the Bucs. They seem to have leadership that is so pathetic that all they can put on the field is a crappy team. Really too bad.

  10. Br luceletdadogsloose Says:

So tired of this over hyped , over grown child !if this has become what it is as the circus it is then by golly gee willickers Batman time to move on ! I’d rather lose without him !he gets to much thought into anything as far as the bucs for what little production he has and at this point it’s just better for me to not look at his face ! There she goes again with that great big smile from nowhere , same as his ultra fast get off step to nowhere and that’s exactly where he put his career , NOWHERE ! Bye Felicia !

  11. FortMyersDave Says:

I could say something sarcastic but since Dick Vitale’s noble cause to help eradicate cancer is a focal point I will just point out that what Dickie V is doing is first class all the way. I normally do not concur with Lakeland due to his”positive” view of things but the guy is right about the coin; the club is in cap hell and it is idiotic to pay GMC 13 million considering this…. It is about as sensible as drafting a kicker or making some guy called trollmax the head of the GMC fan club. Insaity fellow Buc fans….

  12. JA Says:

    It’s over! Boo-f-ing-hoo!
My iPad gets wet from all the crying that goes on here. Lucky for me I am still lured to this site for the entertainment value offered from insane comments and downright idiotic statements.
    For instance:
    1. Fire Licht immediately!
Anyone with a tenth of a brain knows there is no chance of that happening until the 2019 season plays out. Yet you harp on it like a child in a car screaming, “when are we gonna get there?”
    2. BA is too old!
In truth, he’s six months younger than Belichick. Think they want him out in New England?
    3. The Glazers are cheap and only care about Manchester United!
Cheap? This might be the dumbest of all takes. They might not have the best football minds in the business but they are far from cheap—often paying two HC contracts at the same time. They currently have the largest coaching staff in the league and are in salary cap hell. To claim they are cheap makes you a damn fool. What are they supposed to do to make you happy? Pay for your lobotomy reversal?
    4. Cut McCoy loose now and use the money for Suh!
Don’t you think that topic has been discussed in the front office? Are you friends with Suh? Do you know how much money he wants or where he is willing to play? Do you think Licht saw your post and thought, “hmmm, there’s an idea. Never thought about Suh before. Thanks JBF poster?”

    And so on …
Crazy is almost impossible to fix, so I don’t expect any epiphanies from my scribble—just more cross-circuited hatred and tears.
Time to wipe down my iPad …
Wait! Can’t forget the good guys:
To all of those that entertain with logic and positivity, I thank you …

  13. Bird Says:

    13 mil is to much

But you can’t rely on Jpp to maybe return in October – best case

They need to keep him another year.
Just wish he would be willing to redo deal as he always claims to be a team guy

I know players don’t have any obligation to do that ; especially in a violent sport like football . But the Bucs have made him a rich man and he has missed a lot of time and put up average numbers of late.

I think bucs have no other option. He plays for Bucs this year.

  14. El Buco Realisto Says:

I don’t get the ” keep gmc at a reduced rate”!!!!!! The Bucs are finally allowing the Defensive Coordinator to run a different scheme this year!!!!!! GMC has complained EVERY time that she had to play something different in the 4-3 as the defacto UnderTackle that featured she-mc!!!!!!!!!!!!

She-mc is not going to be here next year!!!!!!! There is no difference between 3 to 4 or 5 wins except for the draft pick!!!!!! Where are the Bucs going this year????? No Where!!!!!!!! So why have She-mc complianing and being passive-agressive about not be “Higher ups” already, and got her way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs have only 2 winning years in McCoy’s 9 years with team.
Fans expect and demand more of 3rd pick in draft- that’s the way it is.

Maybe a “disrespected” and po’d McCoy will produce more than the happy go lucky, Game of Thrones talking McCoy.

  16. Hodad Says:

Please end the drama, send the drama queen packing already.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

One more time. The NFL is a BUSINESS to the players, coaches and owners. GMC and the Bucs have a contract in-place. Deviating from that contract can be done, but requires a renegotiation. BOTH SIDES right now are playing hardball. … For good reason. There are millions of $$$ at stake. To them, not to us. Let it play out.

  18. Eric y Says:

And there’s your McCoy …. bye bye McCoy fish

  19. Eric y Says:

If this was Warren Sapp in this moment I would be crying … but he’s not even close to 99 ….he can go

  20. Mort Says:

Yep, let’s lose our two best D-linemen this year and see how that goes. You ding dongs who want to send him packing, would you rather start Beau Allen? Cuz that’s stupid. Real stupid.

  21. Elita Vita Says:

Darn, losing our two best D-linemen has just torpedoed our chances of Super Bowl glory this year! (Sarcasm). Let’s face it, if this team will be a contender it won’t be for a while yet. Goes to show you…breaking up is hard to do. Time to look forward and to be smart about it!

  22. Bucnjim Says:

    Mort,
You can’t get worse than last which is where we’ve been. Maybe it’s time to just go young for the entire D. We’ve tried the veteran way for the last 5 years or so and it hasn’t worked. Since McCoy was drafted the Bucs have averaged 25th in Defense. It would be worse but we were actually 10th one year.

  23. Greg Says:

GMC has been a great pro for us his whole time here. Hes one of the very few pro-bowlers over the last decade, has been through way too many coaching changes, has contributed to the community, and has dealt with ignorant bloggers who are always negative thinking it makes them sound clever. We waisted this guys career by not putting any other pass rushers around him for a decade. Sapp was a 1st rounder but so was McFarland, Rice, and Spires may have been a 2nd rounder. GMC never had that support on the field. He may have played his last season with the Bucs but he deserves a salute not the finger.

  24. jb™️ Says:

It seems like McCoy has some extremely hurt feelings, since most fans expect a helluva Lot more than what he’s given this team for the $Millions they’ve paid him.
Just watch, if we release him he’s gonna sign with the Saints, Falcons or Panthers outta nothing but pure spite.
I say good riddance and don’t let the door hit ya where God split ya on your way out.

  25. rrsrq Says:

Outside of JPP, name a decent defensive lineman that he has played with. Oh yeah, Michael Bennett. Name a decent DB, oh yeah Darrel Revis. He couldn’t do it all by himself. Suh has had Ziggy, Cameron Wake and now Aaron Donald.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Tbbucs3 Says

McCoy actually averages more sacks than Suh over the past half decade. But you know…let’s not allow actual facts warp your biased opinion.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

McCoy is not showing an attitude…

He is simply being honest. He knows that the Bucs have shopped him and his agent is probably in negotiations. So he doesn’t actually know if he will play in Tampa this year.

You haters try to twist everything. Here’s an idea…why not jump on your 4-5 usernames to support yourself and your bad opinions?

  28. DooshLaRue Says:

    @AlanBuc

Not likely he plays better. At this point in his career he’s only looking to pad his bank account and not get seriously injured.
    Dump him.

    Addition by subtraction.

  29. Eric Says:

I translate this to mean he is gone.

Normally s guy would say “I really want to be here but it’s a business so we’ll see”

  30. WillieG Says:

Is it possible that McCoy is coming back, and the Bucs know, and have known, he’s coming back and everything has been worked out salary-wise? Maybe this is all to keep opponents guessing (for awhile at least) about McCoy’s status as well as exactly what defense the Bucs will play?

Think about it. McCoy is leaner than he’s ever been. Sounds to me like he’s preparing to play a different role in a different defense. Also, the Bucs have yet to definitively say that they will be a 3-4 team. Yeah, it looks like that’s what they will play, but they sure seem reluctant to actually say it.

  31. Tbeartbb Says:

    JA – EXCELLENT

  32. Steven007 Says:

Realist, calling GMC she is rich coming from the jbf exclamation Queen. GMC has more man in his pinky finger than you will ever have. Sorry for your luck.

  33. gotbbucs Says:

Does anybody really care what this guy thinks anymore or where he ends up so long as it isn’t on this team?
I just want it to be over so everyone involved can move forward.

Otherwise he’s going to show up for mandatory workouts and ruin any vibe that these young cats have been able to establish.

  34. rrsrq Says:

JA – bringing logic to JBF posters.
These are same guys that call Beckwith a bust
ROJO after one year a bust
Carl Nassib the next big thing, not realizing that he and Spence are pretty equal total sacks, even though Spence has probably less games played
I really think the fans watch one football team in the pros and one other football team in college (likely UF or FSU)

  35. Smashsquatch Says:

So nice he apologizes to the QB and lays off the hit. So nice he allows JPP to come in and break the double digit sack drought in one year. So nice he allows other teams to steal games in the final 5 minutes. So nice he’s not going to be a Buc anymore. So nice……

  36. Snook Says:

Just when I thought this guy couldn’t get any more soft?

He truly represents the last decade of losing Buccaneers football.

Good luck finding someone you pay you more than $6M a year, softy.

Good riddance. Bring Suh in here so we can see a DT actually play with passion.

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

How quick we losers..Bucs fans..thats right WE..are losers..the team that is.
turn on players. GMC has played his heart out for these Bucs over the yrs. So now he’s the..Whipping Post of the franchise. Many here want GMC to speak out of term, display a negative attitude. But he’s still himself and knows, somebody is gonna pick him at a salary these Bucs are not willing to pay. What a cheap sad franchise we are. GMC’s situation has not been handled well at all. But then again, Our (Buc) history is frought with misteps. Anybody remember a superbowl QB named..Doug Williams? Like I’ve said, I hope he does leave and go on to a contender. He deserves it. A lot of you guys really do need to..wake up and smell the coffee.
