Brate, Dotson And Allen Talk Gerald McCoy

May 21st, 2019

The wise men at FOX-13 TV smartly cut a check to JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman each Sunday for his work on the Tailgate Sunday pregame show.

It’s a beautiful thing. Sage wisdom in your living room.

Another beautiful thing is FOX-13 sports reporter Kevin O’Donnell patrolling the post-practice sidelines today at One Buc Palace to get reaction on Gerald McCoy getting cut last night.

O’Donnell caught up to Beau Allen, Demar Dotson and Cameron Brate for some of their personal memories of teammate McCoy.

It’s all neatly edited in the Twitter video below. McCoy wasn’t a very effective leader, but he certainly commanded a lot of respect on both sides of the ball.

  1. WillieG Says:

My only beef with 93 was his willingness to tolerate “players” like Baker. A real team leader would’ve put a foot in Baker’s ass before the season started. Hopefully Suh has higher standards……and a willingness to enforce them (like Brooks, Sapp, Lynch, etc.).

  2. Slugglife Says:

Time to move on from Gerald McCoy.

He’s no longer on the team.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yes….let’s move on from GMC…..how ’bout we talk about Josh Freeman….

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

Now that we have Suh it makes me wish we had JPP as well. I would’ve liked to seen how they played together.

  5. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Funny, two of those guys might be the next one out the door, and then there is Allen who signed a restricted contact for a roster guarantee.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

all cancer leaves behind is a legacy of quitting on coaches and basement titles

Yes….let’s move on from GMC…..how ’bout we talk about Josh Freeman….

at least freeman was just a failure not a fraud like cancer93

  8. Bucnjim Says:

All neatly packaged into a lets not hurt anyone’s feelings box. The players, fans, and coaches who actually tell it like it is are ridiculed as haters. That is why in 2019 just about everyone would rather keep their mouth shut!

  9. DB55 Says:

Demar Dotson has to go! Like tomorrow

  10. Bird Says:

Beau Allen and his pretty hair.

They said he looks substantially bigger this year. (Especially muscle wise )
    Extra protein shakes maybe ?

  11. tmaxcon Says:

their comments mean less than nothing. career losers with no understanding how to win nor be great… they can follow cancer93 out the door we’ve lost with them

  12. OneBuc55 Says:

I think being a nice guy isn’t a bad thing day to day but on the football field being a bada#@ is very necessary… Assuming Suh is a done deal we get a huge upgrade in the bada@# dept.

This is a tough fanbase to please an Gerald found that out the hard way… every Bucsfan I know is literally celebrating right now

  13. BucEmUp Says:

Out with the old, in with the SUH

  14. Bird Says:

Agree. Let’s stop talking about McCoy taking plays off

So we can talk about all the plays Suh has been taking off over years (which is clearly documenting on every team he has been on ).

But Suh is mean. Mean = better player
    ——

Again the move had to be done. And we hopefully got discount of at least 3 mil.

I Just think it’s funny of all these posters bashing the old guy on the team and welcoming the new guy when they are almost the same player. But one guy steps on your hand while the other offers to pick you up by your hand.

  15. Clw JB Says:

I hoped he could carry us, he can’t

Time to move forward and wish GMC the best

I like the new DT combo much better than two days ago

  16. Stanglassman Says:

Will the Bucs give Sue #93?!

  17. SC Bucs Fan Says:

I root for whoever wears the uniform. I don’t like Suh as a person but I will root for him.

  18. Bird Says:

    McCoy career stats :
    123 games 6 FF. 54.5 sacks . 296 tackles . 79 tackles for a loss. 140 qb hits

    Suh career stats :
    142 games. 4 FF. 56 sacks . 481 tackles . 107 tackles for a loss. 166 QBs hits

    —///

Don’t get me working. Being available to play on Sunday’s in Suh’s favor. And McCoy missed a lot of games. He played thru a lot of injuries as well . Suh played in 19 more games. And yes he clearly has more tackles. But we talking about tackles ? because for almost 20 games difference look at sacks and hits on QB. And that’s what McCoy got dogged for. Not getting the QB in the end.
Suh has more talent around him. McCoy never had jack except JPP for a year.

Again posters saying good riddance to one and how stoked they are for the other is funny. It’s like letting John Smith go to pick up John Smith jr.

  19. Snook Says:

    Never heard him swear…

WOW. What a legacy McCoy has left.

Geez. Move on people. The losing culture has left the building.

His upgrade has arrived. Suh is statistically better in nearly every category. Even 1st team All-Pro – 3 vs 1.

  20. Bird Says:

    ^^^

    Don’t get me wrong*

  21. Isaac haggins Says:

McCoy is more talented than Suh but Suh plays way stronger and plays way way tougher and is so much more mentally ready on the field and better for other players it’s not even a discussion!!

McCoy prob buys more donuts and ICECREAM 🍦!!

  22. DB55 Says:

What are you guys going to say when they pay Suh 14 mil and give him #93? #ROTFL

  23. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs love to overpay for these old bums

  24. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Yeah LakeLand because there are a lot of young FAs who have been all pro that are released and can sign here.

In your words, smh how negative you are. Must be terrible to be you,

  25. Buccaneerscotty Says:

What is your dumb a@@ going to cry about now! Scumbag

  26. Billy-43 Says:

If they pay SUH even $12 million I will laugh my a$$ off.
    Shows what BA truly thought.

    MOVE ON

  27. Slugglife Says:

I’m buying every one of you d-bags a Suh Jersey.

Won’t cost much as most of you have the buil of a youth medium.

    Send your addresses.

  28. Slugglife Says:

Y’all don’t mind if it’s dolphins, lions or rams do you?

  29. Billy-43 Says:

Also wouldn’t surprise me in the least if we have 2 guys get 10 sacks now.

  30. #1bucsfan Says:

The only cancer is the cancer that tmaxipad lives an breathes sorry tmaxipad there’s no hope or help for ya bud

  31. LakeLand Says:

You have to be negative when discussing the Yucs. There’s nothing positive about this piss-poor, so-call franchise.

  32. LakeLand Says:

Jason Licht had 6 years to get this roster right. In year six he’s reaching for a 32 year old has-been DT.

    Pathetic

  33. Jeffbuc Says:

Lakeland yeah he is reaching. He just signed a defensive tackle who is like Ian likes to say is a dog. In the last 5 years he is second in defeylineman in tackles for loss only to Donald. So we got rid of a soft fan favorite. And not calling Gerald soft as a football player. But soft as a person. Which is great for an insurance agent. But is the last thing you want from a defensive nfl player. And we saved enough cap to sign are draft picks. So if you don’t think we got better today you are delusional. I bet if you ask cam, Matt, and drew if they would rather face McCoy or suh I think we both know what that answer would be. We just got a guy who literarily is old school and still makes offensive lineman and qbs have a sleepless night before they face him. In all of sports it is always a mind game. If you have a guy that you don’t know if he is going to stomp on your head. Or a guy that you know is going to help you up all game and apologize for anything that might hurt you. I think you would look forward to playing against the nice guy. As a bucs fan if you are not happy about this move today. Then something is wrong i would bet that everyone upset today with this is happy with youth sports not keeping score and everyone gets a trophy. Every bucs fan knows no matter how much they wanted it to be different is suh is better than McCoy all around. Yeah McCoy has a great get off. But like a comment I read earlier he gets up field to quick on run plays and totally misses his hole. He played every play like a pass play let’s get up field as fast as I can and not contain my hole

  34. Ed Kerber Says:

I don’t think this is a BA move. This is a McCoy move. They said “you are worth 7 million tops.” He said “for 7 million I wanna win a ring! McCoy walked. He wasn’t pushed. Good move for both sides.

  35. FanO’Bucs Says:

GMC is a better player than the Bucs org is a team.

Funny to see all the focus on one player yet the team continues to suck.

It’s too bad he was on the front lines of this trainwreck organization.

    Fans can be so dumb.

  36. Mike Evans Goat Says:

He beat me a few times.

    He’s really nice to rookies.

    He doesn’t swear.
    LMAO that’s all they had

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    LakeLand Says
“Jason Licht had 6 years to get this roster right. In year six he’s reaching for a 32 year old has-been DT.

    Pathetic”

I’m curious. Did you feel the same about Rich Mckay when he was here? Mckay succeeded in building a defense, but failed in building an offense.

Licht has succeeded in building an offense, and thus far has failed at building a defense.

Mckay had fewer good picks than Licht, but was much better in free agency.

You’ve been around a while, and lately, you’ve been a pure hater. But I don’t think you are a troll. I think you are a fan who is tired of being disappointed. I get that.

I get a ‘Don’t say it. Do it!’ viewpoint. I feel that way myself.

But you’re outright assuming the team will suck, so I have to ask, “Why are you even a fan anymore?”

  38. Dreambig Says:

Bird is spot on. No matter how the Bucs do this year I suspect the same knuckle draggers who think poor sportsmanship means a better player will be calling for Suh’s head. If he was worth his BS, he wouldn’t be on his 4th team now.

  39. Dreambig Says:

Our D needs a infusion of toughness but I am not sure Suh is going to help more then he hurts us. He is clearly not a team guy. A loser who steps on and kicks players is going to be a A*hole off the field and in the locker room. DJax was a prince compared to this guy.

  40. FanO’Bucs Says:

:/ Maybe the skrit clubs will take some of that head stomping out of Suh.

  41. miken Says:

Those uniforms in the pic look soooooo much better than what we have now (but not as good as the creamsicles)

  42. Mike Johnson Says:

When its all said and done. GMC will be inducted into our..Hall Of fame. His name will be right up there on the rafters with brooks and sapp. Watch and see.

  43. unbelievable Says:

    @Bird,

The other issue is that Suh’s stats have been when lower over the last few years compared to McCoy. But hey he’s mean to opponents, so obviously that’s better while he’s also taking plays off 🙄

  44. jmarkbuc Says:

    Bonzai

“I’m curious. Did you feel the same about Rich Mckay when he was here? Mckay succeeded in building a defense, but failed in building an offense.”

Dungy/McKay’s offenses averaged the same amount of PPG as Gruden’s, almost exactly.

If Bert Emmanuel didn’t get screwed or Ricky Proehl doesn’t make the catch over BK, Bucs history would be totally different

  45. Bucsdelight Says:

haha. We got a DT that is the same as McCoy in production (Sacks) because that’s all you have talked about for McCoy. Also, Suh was still available in FA for a reason. Nobody wanted him.

  46. Jackpc1 Says:

What is wrong with being a nice guy? Derrick Brooks – my all-time Buc favorite – was and is a super human being. He wasn’t very local – Sapp was the vocal leader – but unquestionably Brooks was respected by his play on the field. I hope Suh brings his best not his worst (that has gotten him fined and/or suspended). I have appreciated GMC’s play on the field and pray that he doesn’t join the Saints and haunt us two times every year.
