“I’ve Always Been In Search Of That”

New Jameis fan

Jameis Winston has a new fan.

And it’s a guy who has worked with many, many quarterbacks and coaches in a hearty handful of NFL offenses.

America’s Quarterback has impressed his understudy, journeyman Blaine Gabbert.

Joe asked Gabbert this week for his impressions of Jameis.

“He’s been awesome, extremely hard-working. He’s extremely diligent in his preparation,” Gabbert said. “He takes the job very seriously. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know him on and off the field, practicing, working out with him, hanging out with him in the locker room and meeting room. It’s been great so far.

“This is such a fun offense to be in. There’s so much put on a quarterback but that’s all we want at the position, just throw the football and be in charge. And I think Jameis is enjoying that aspect of it, just like I am to be back in this system.”

Gabbert was very quick with his answer and sounded sincerely impressed by how dialed in Jameis is.

In March, head coach Bucco Bruce Arians said 29-year-old Gabbert is more talented than any of the quarterbacks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

“We all go to a workout and he’s probably going to shine more than anybody in this year’s draft or last year’s draft because of his talent,” Arians said.

Joe brought that up to Gabbert, who said he hasn’t lost anything when it comes to talent or confidence.

“It’s just about finding consistency and playing good football and I’ve always been in search of that,” Gabbert said. “This is the first time in my career that I’ve been in the same offense for more than a year.”

Gabbert, who played for Arians in Arizona two seasons ago, was drafted in 2011 and has played for eight head coaches (none interim) but just five teams. Wrap your head around those numbers for a minute. That might be some kind of NFL record.

Gabbert, like Josh Allen, would’ve been picked right in-between Kyler Murray and D Joseph in Rd 1 of the draft this past year, based on talent, and everybody else would’ve slid down… I agree with that assessment and wouldn’t consider it hyperbole by Arians.

  9. DB55 Says:

None of this matters unless you upgrade the 29th ranked offensive line. Specifically Demar Dotson and the RG.

There’s not a darn QB in nfl history who has been successful with only 3 lineman blocking for him.

  10. Casual Observer Says:

DB55 has a good point. The right side of the line need attention. I suspect that a change or two is in the offing. Which is a good thing.

“just throw the football and be in charge.”

May I get in the way-back machine and have him slightly edit his quote please?

“just complete the football to our receivers and be in charge.”

There. The Mandela Effect is alive and well.
