Sittin’ On Sitton?

March 14th, 2019

Could do worse.

If you are tossed aside by the Miami Dolphins, you are either overpaid terribly or are damaged goods.

If you are a beggar, then you cannot be a chooser. Thus, there is a guard that just got flipped overboard into Biscayne Bay. That would be Josh Sitton.

Sitton was cut yesterday by the Dolphins after his first season in a two-year contract. For most of his career in the NFC North, Sitton was a workhorse, rarely missing a start. Last year he only played in one game as he blew up his rotator cuff.

Now Joe isn’t sure if Sitton is the answer, a soon-to-be 33-year old, four-time Pro Bowl guard who missed 15 games last year with a bum rotator cuff.

But every time Joe tries to shoot this idea down in his head, Joe always comes back with two words:

Caleb Benenoch.

The Bucs need Caleb to find a new career choice. If he can’t play guard why would anyone believe he could play tackle?

  2. DooshLaRue Says:

He’s white, burly and has a beard.
    Jason says…….”That’s our guy”!

Now just over pay him right Licht?
    Ha ha

  3. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Sitton was a workhorse.” Operative word is ‘WAS’ Joe. Draft a Guard in Rnd 3 (hopefully with more upside than Cappa this time). Personally I’d also keep Evan Smith in the fold (for $2 mil he’s cheap as a G/C backup … he’s been ‘adequate’).

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

I still can’t believe that week in, week out we trotted Caleb Benenoch out at RG and the GM that couldn’t figure out that we needed a RG still runs the team!

  5. Bird Says:

Benenoch was the definition of failure last year …cant believe nothing was done and week after week he got to start.

Unacceptable that there wasn’t someone working at McDonald’s that was better then him.

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

Bird- I cannot accept that someone on the sidelines watched this guy all year, and out of sheer desperation, didn’t try something else.
    Mind-boggling!

  7. SCBucsFan Says:

Rise and shine Bucs fans! It’s another day to start your whining and moaning.

  8. StoutGospel Says:

Geee, wonder where this suggestion for addition to the Bucs came from yesterday??

And incidentally, Miami is cutting bait or non-renewing a lot of people to put operation tank-job into full effect for the #1 pick in 2020 Tua/Hebert QB lottery. They’ve already said so. It’s not at all an indication on a player’s worth/health necessarily, see JaWaun James their stud RT they just let walk to DEN for a fortune.

Sitton was a definite stud for years on the Green Bay line just like TJ Lang…and I’m sure his rotator cuff has healed after all that time out. He would be a #2 option behind Lang first, with Fluker 3rd if his hamstring checks out, Iupati 4th. Yes, a Bradbury or Lindstrom in the 2nd round could be an option also, maybe a decent one in the 3rd, but Lang/Sitton’s experience is so much more valuable than a 1st round guard even.

Licht…better not be dark…by not cutting Brate by close of business Friday!! Re-sign him later for much cheaper if you want.

    Go Bucs! Get Quinnen!

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Apparently, if a player is injured here, we must replace them. If they are injured elsewhere…it’s okay to sign them.

  10. Loyaltotheend Says:

Licht is the worst GM in football

If you aren’t good at self evaluation then you can’t improve properly

The player evaluation on this team is horrible. Until Licht is gone I have no hope for a winner

  11. Bill Says:

They could do a lot worse. Dude can play both guard spots. I’d sign him.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    StoutGospel, you really are stupid.

  13. AlteredEgo Says:

If Licht had started with the admittance 5 years years “we are rebuilding” and gone with younger cheaper prospects instead with flash bang big bucks signings….we might actually have a solid foundation on both sides of the ball….

  14. Danny Says:

Joe what is it with you and these old players you want. We need players we can mold, I would rather play Cappa than get this old, over hill, bum shoulder toss out. I would rather draft a guard, like the BC guard.

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

    “Could do worse”!!!!!!!!!

Any truth to the rumor that quote will be the official slogan for the Bucs 2019 season??????????

2019 will reveal the answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans alredy know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sign him to a 1-year non-guaranteed contract…..but no matter what we do….draft Oline in the first 3 rounds…….

  17. VeeJay24 Says:

Its worth a shot; shouldn’t cost you that much what’s the alternative?

  18. TheCollegeBuc Says:

Looks like a typical Licht bargain bin FA. We’ll give him a 2 year $14m contract, cut evan smith, and our line wont be any better.

  19. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsfanman

Dont blame the right guard playing next to one of the worst right tackles in all of football is tough. Dotson is garbage and will always be garbage just another feel good story not a nfl player. soft delusional bucfan loves the feel good stories more than winning.

Shaping up to be another quality basement title run…. the delusional optimists better start working on their excuses to justify and accept failure

6-10 and BA wslks away from this minor league franchise by week 9

  20. StoutGospel Says:

    @Bonzai…

    🙂

Remember ….that the white stuff goes in the salt shaker, not the pepper shaker, cause the black and grayish stuff belongs in the pepper shaker. And don’t forget to push the chairs back in, once the table is clean.

Lord if you even understood how much of an actual moron you are. 🙂

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

“The player evaluation on this team is horrible. Until Licht is gone I have no hope for a winner”

Yes…that’s exactly why Belichik had him as his college scout for a year and then PROMOTED him to his national scout the next season.

And GM’s across the league routinely pick players in the 4th round and find UDFA’s who totally CASH IN at the end of their contracts. How did a moron find those two players.

Licht is guilty of one thing. Too much dabbling in the FA market which is always a seller’s not a buyers market!!! He let the desperation of this losing organization force him into desperate moves and that has burnt him. His draft record is actually very good as this year’s FA indicates. Not only the two who walked but another UDFA at TE who may be a cap casualty as well.

Buy low and sell high!!! Its true in any investing including players…and it’s how Belichik has DOMINATED this league.

Ultimately Licht’s future comes down to ONE player. If JW blows up this year Licht will be fine. One more dalliance with the ladies off the field or another horribly inconsistent year on the field and it’s bye bye Licht whose career as Bucs GM totally hinges on a #1 pick in the entire draft.

BTW before NDOG or 87 come here to bash me IMO JW will finally blow up this year!

  22. Widerightandleft Says:

Tmaxcon:Sad thing is ,Dotson probably graded out second best on oline last season.

  23. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

StoutGospel theres absolutely no way if we cut brats we could resign him for way less. If we cut him ind or Cleveland or somebody with tons of cap space would snatch him up n pay him a ton. Now we could try to restructure but no way I’d take a chance of letting him go. I like oh but hes yet to play a full season n if he went down n we didnt have brate wed be SOL

  24. Stanglassman Says:

Has anyone on here had a torn rotator? I have, did all the rehab and 15 years later it’s still not right. About 60% strength and shoulder pops out all the time now. I’m sure it’s better for those guys than a civilian but don’t assume his shoulder will every be 100% again.
