Eagles Have Check For DJax

March 11th, 2019

Next step?

He has already waved goodbye to Tampa Bay, and malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson may already know where he’s going to land later this week.

It sure smells like the Eagles want Jackson badly. Per long-time Eagles insider Howard Eskin, it sounds as if Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has a check written out with Jackson’s name on it. The only thing he is waiting on to complete the check is for Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to either pull the trigger on a trade, or pull the trigger on Jackson’s employment with the Bucs.

Of course, earlier today Jackson waved goodbye to Tampa Bay.

This has Joe cracking up. Jackson told former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms during one of his podcasts from the Super Bowl that young quarterbacks don’t understand him, and that young quarterbacks don’t understand that he doesn’t need work.

Jackson then said he wanted to play for the Rams, a team with a starting quarterback (Jared Goff) with less NFL experience than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

If Jackson does wind up in Philadelphia, that means he will play for a quarterback (Carson Wentz) with less NFL experience than Jameis.

Man, this cat Jackson really despises Jameis. And to think he came to Tampa Bay because he wanted to roll with Jameis.

Sort of some serious talking out of both sides of the mouth here, isn’t it?

Should Wentz be worried if the Eagles sign journeyman backup Ryan Fitzpatrick?

not sure about this…. they have anglor and alshon and didn’t they just get tate?

  2. zzbuc Says:

I don´t care where he is going….I just care that he is gone first of all, and then what do we get………

  3. Alstott up the gut Says:

Is this just releasing him or is there any chance we get a late round pick for him?

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

Give us guard Stefen Wisniewski and we’ll call it even.

  5. miken Says:

@alstott… just cutting him. No one seems to want to pay 10 million for him and give up anything when he is about to get cut.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

On behalf of the “real” fans, we are sad to see an explosive player like that go!!!!! And we know that it did not work out, because the Bucs do not have a franchise qb!!!!!!!!!

    Good luck to you Djax!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. AlteredEgo Says:

Licht is going to have to swallow hard….

  8. Rod Munch Says:

People don’t want to pay D-Jax $10m, but will pay Hump $10m when he can’t get open versus starting corners? LOL! The personal hatred of D-Jax is coloring your opinion. Of course the Bucs shop him around and see what they can get, but if the Bills will give a slightly better pick, then you ship him to the Bills. Or just keep him until the preseason when he can’t get a contract worth anything if you really hate him and want to spite him.

  9. Alstott up the gut Says:

Fine…. let’s get to it so we can get in the free agency game.

  10. Jwil8027 Says:

When I first came across this guys tweet, it sure sounded like Philly really wanted a reunion. With Bucs still owning rights, I smell a trade. Thanks for running the story Joe!

  11. Wausa Says:

Now this is a clear case of tampering assuming the Bucs have not given him permission to speak to other franchises.

  12. Season Is Over Says:

I thought he left from there for being too toxic?

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Going, going, gone!!!…..Oops….not quite yet………

  14. Loyaltotheend Says:

This offense wasn’t the same without DJAX and Howard…

Gonna be another bad year for us

  15. Bird Says:

    Crazy money out there.

Gotta think Humphries will get 10 mil per

  16. SCBucsFan Says:

Why would the Eagles give us anything if they know they can get him for free. Expect DJAx to make himself cancerous in social media to make sure the Bucs can’t trade him.

  17. Cgmaster27v Says:

Bucs realist, explosive? You do know this guy has 3 1000 yard season in his last 9? And hasnt scored more than 6 tds but 1 time in that same span. Outside of catching a long bomb or two, this guy is far from explosive.

  18. Jwil8027 Says:

SCBucsFan the longer we hold on to him, his options get fewer and fewer. Two can play that game right?

  19. Kyle Says:

i thought there would be more movement on the roster at this point? (I mean, releasing some dead weight to free up cap space).

Joe, do you think the bucs want to hold on to players until they have deals sorta in place? I know you dont want to dump everyone and then get stuck not being able to attract free agents.

  20. El_Buc941 Says:

O hope Jason Licht Rob’s the Illgles of a 3rd round pick in exchange for DJax.lmao

  21. SCBucsFan Says:

Jwil look how well that game worked for the Steelers with Brown and Bell

  22. Not there yet Says:

Chance to trade was last year and that’s why a check is ready for 3 years. He wouldn’t give up one year 10 million o unless cut. Licht you are the weakest gm in the league and tired of watching you get manhandled

  23. Costa Rica John Says:

You have to play this like you would play poker. Let the other teams know your not giving him up for less than a third round pick. Your willing to eat his salary in the hopes that after next years free agency you will get a third round pick as compensation. Once they understand how you feel they will either deal with you or we keep him.

  24. Jwil8027 Says:

    Well said Costa Rica John

  25. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s kind of weird he can’t get a trade done. He would likely get $10M or more on the open market. They aren’t saving anything by waiting out the Bucs.

I’d love to send him to like Buffalo or the Jets lol

  26. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I’d keep him until the first week of the season, out of spite. Hopefully someones #1 receiver goes down with year long injury.

  27. miken Says:

Explain to me again why we didn’t take the deal for a 3 or 4 at the deadline?????????

  28. pelbuc Says:

Another great “character guy” picked by Gump. And we wonder why this team is so dysfunctional. By the way, if Glazers are paying attention, look what a real GM did in Cleveland in ONE YEAR!

  29. Knucknbuc Says:

good for djax at least he wont be stuck toiling his career with this toilet bowl franchise known as the bucs aka. the cellarneers ran by jason dump.

  30. pick6 Says:

if they’re working out a deal hoping for his release that is the very definition of ILLEGAL tampering, no? DJax is not a free agent and thus not part of the “legal tampering period”, unless the bucs have given philly permission to work this out ahead of a trade. in that case, i’m all for it as it means the bucs are getting something out of this breakup

  31. Lord Cornelius Says:

“look what a real GM did in Cleveland in ONE YEAR!”

The Browns have had sh1t loads of draft picks for years – probably 3X the amount of the Bucs – and it’s taken them a while to finally field a talented team.

Still didn’t make the playoffs. They also lost to the sh1t 2018 Bucs and the coach was fired mid season so it’s not like a great year but they are definitely on the come-up as long as they don’t f*ck up their front office personnel

  32. Figures Says:

Get ready for another 5-11 6-10 season Bucs fans lmao
Not gonna land anything of real value.
Better hit grand slams in the draft

  33. tmaxcon Says:

djax gets the last laugh he escapes the nfls blackhole and worst ran small market wanna be franchise…. he’ll be in the playoffs next year and you fools will be making excuses and justifying another basement title.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

pick6 – Jackson put up the “seeya later” message earlier, so I’d assume that means the Bucs told his agent he can shop around for deals. I seriously doubt any team is going to be negotiating a deal with a guy under contract who doesn’t have permission to do so, that’s a huge no-no and would get them into a ton of trouble.

Just wait a day or two or three and see what happens.

  35. Doctor Stroud Says:

    Just another #PaidFloridaVacation

  36. Rod Munch Says:

What’s funny is that I was one of the few that didn’t like the D-Jax FA signing, I figured he’d be injured for at least a few games a year and it would take time for him and Jameis to get on the same page, and then he’d start whinning. People said I was wrong, it’s a great pickup, etc, etc, etc.

Then when it turns out D-Jax was not as bad of a fit as I thought, and he was opening up underneath for a guy like Hump, who was playing against backup safeties and LB’s because people had to respect D-Jax when he’s on the field, well I said his value to the team is about more than the stat sheet. Obviously if him and Jameis hated each other, and from Hard Knocks that seemed to be the case, then you move on from D-Jax, but in any case I was fine with Arians trying to make it work if he thought he could.

But what’s funny is all the people who thought this was a great FA signing, who earlier this year was saying we needed to resign Fitz to a huge deal and were worried that D-Jax only had a year on his deal, are now saying don’t even try to shop him for a pick, just cut him. LOL! The mood swing of people on this message board is borderline bipolar.

  37. Tval Says:

The eagles are DONE for the next couple years, and it has NOTHING to do with djax. The “self admitted” selfish Wentz divided the locker room with his inability to stay healthy and lackluster play, minus legarrette, combined with his holier than thou, preachy, nonsense. Time will tell but they bungled the Browns/Wentz trade, so badly it made Baker look good with the pieces philly gave up, and “doubled down” on dumb keeping Wentz over Foles. Trade Foles for Ramsey and MOVE ON!! Tate is a free agent

  38. donuts Says:

If AB is worth a 3rd and 5th, what is DJAX worth? Probably no compensation or a 6th at best.

Licht once again being tooled by all the other NFL teams. He should have traded him mid-season to a play off team if he wanted anything of real value.

  39. StoutGospel Says:

    @miken…

Tate is a free agent now. And they were shopping Agholor at the Combine, so say many outlets.

They didn’t trade DJax at last year’s trade deadline out of spite, because right before DJax was trying to publically push his way outta town, telling Josina Anderson of ESPN then that this and that was happening with Koetter, squabbles, and lack of chemistry with Jameis. Licht thought he was being cute, and spiteful.

MANNN….look at all the wholesale changes we have made. We are DEFINITELY destined for 11-5.

OHHHH DANG!!! DJax traded to EAGLES.

    Did @Joe’s job!

    Go Bucs!

  40. Alstott up the gut Says:

    Traded!!!

  41. Chris K Says:

It’s a done deal. Wonder what the compensation is. If it’s a fourth I’ll be thrilled.

  42. Bird Says:

Raiders and lions making big moves right now. Geez.

Raiders going after Leveon Bell too.
Think someone will give him around 15 a year. Crazy.
And 2 or 3 years guaranteed

  43. miken Says:

Trade is done….I was 100% wrong. Didn’t think a trade would happen to phily (or anywhere).

  44. Alstott up the gut Says:

Anything is a win…. late round picks are all it takes to move up in those important rounds 2-4, so this is house money to me!

  45. Easy Says:

    Glad he’s gone

  46. The Real Drew Says:

Hoping at least a 5th, but anything better than nothing.

  47. Aaron Says:

This is for a conditional 2020 draft pick – watch

  48. The Buc Realist Says:

The only thing worse for a team then looking for a “franchise QB” is thinking your team has one, when it doesn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. Steven007 Says:

Perhaps Licht, or Gump has so many of you like to call him isn’t quite the doofus you think he is.

  50. StoutGospel Says:

    UMMM….

WHERE’S @Defense Rules right now?!???! Hmmm?

I believe this morning it was 5 minutes after THIS GUY posted that there would be draft pick trade compensation for DJax, and @DR proclaimed RIGHT AFTER…”I seriously doubt there will be trade compensation given for DJax from anyone, maybe for a player straight up”!!

Huh. Maybe…YOU ALL will learn, from now on. Just be real, real careful, and real, real quiet….around THIS GUY 🙂

    Commence pointless noisemakers squawking.

    #DeafEars

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  51. Rod Munch Says:

Shocking… all offseason you dopes said to cut him – and I said he had trade value and they’d get something for him. That’s also why you don’t talk down a player in public, even if they had no intention of keeping him, you pretend like you love him to make people think you might keep him, thus offer more if they really want him.

Anyways we’ll see what we get, but this again proves why I’m the message board MVP and your leader.

  52. Tony G Says:

Traded to the Eagles no details as yet👍

  53. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe’s poll had 93% of us agreeing that we should not have matched SF’s offer for Kwon…

That sort of makes me wonder about the other 7%……

  54. Rod Munch Says:

On Twitter the deal that keeps popping up is the Bucs got two picks, a 2019 6th and a 2020 7th…

We’ll see if that’s real or fake news…

  55. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Details released on Jackson trade…
    We only got 2019 6th round & 2020 7th round.
Better than nothing I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

  56. Rod Munch Says:

Bucfan1988 – Two draft picks is a lot more than nothing…

  57. StoutGospel Says:

Good thing @Rod’s got a sense of humor, cuz parts of that we’re real funny.

    Go Bucs! Get Quinnen!

  58. Rod Munch Says:

So now the Bucs should check back with Hump and see what is happening. I’m still staying in the $6m range, tops, but who knows what the market is going to be. It is an awful WR market, so maybe someone pays Hump, and considering the insane amounts of money being thrown around so far maybe someone even pays Hump $10m, which would be insane. But I really don’t like that WR depth chart with Hump and D-Jax gone, you go from a strength to a weakness.

  59. Costa Rica John Says:

    The trade has been made

  60. Bucfan1988 Says:

I guess so Munch….Thouggt we coulda snagged at least a 5th for him….I think that contract for $10 milly was hurting ability to trade him…

  61. miken Says:

@rodmunch… draft pick are assets, untill Jason uses them… then they become nothing.

  62. Jwil8027 Says:

And the trade. Saw this coming a mile away…

  63. Lord Cornelius Says:

Better than nothing. Those 6th / 7ths can be used to move up in the 4th if needed.

We also had no 6th rounder I think before this deal.

Once Adam Humphries signs a big deal, we’ll hopefully have gotten:
    2019 6th round draft pick
    2020 3rd round pick
    2020 3rd or 4th round pick
    2020 7th round pick

All for doing nothing lol. Got to actually make good selections with the picks to make it worth it tho.

  64. DB55 Says:

Can we fire licht now or later? A 6th n a 7th? Come on bruh

  65. Rod Munch Says:

Bucfan1988 – It’s less than I thought, but considering how the media was convincing everyone that D-Jax was going to get cut, it’s not a bad return. Also in most years you can turn a 6th and 7th into a 5th by just waiting a year to draft. Most years you can find someone that will give up a 5th next year, for a 6th this year and a 7th next year. Heck, you can then wait until the next year and trade that 5th for a 4th the following year, then the following year trade the 4th for a 3rd the following year, then repeat for a 2nd, then finally a 1st. I do it in Madden all the time. So D-Jax, if you’re willing to wait, can turn into a 1st rounder.

  66. AlteredEgo Says:

    Coulda …. Shoulda… been a 3rd last October….

  67. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If true, I’m glad we got something for him…..we don’t have a 6 round pick because of the BA acquisition from the Cardinals……so anything is better than nothing…..we could have held out and gotten zip.

  68. Rod Munch Says:

Lord Cornelius – Hump and Kwon comp picks all require the Bucs making no moves in FA. We shall see if they go that route or not – and even some scrub garbage FA signings like Licht LOVES to do (he thinks three 3rd rate players = one 1st rate player) will hurt the comp formula.

Anywho I wouldn’t start counting on those comp picks until they’re announced.

  69. richbucsfan Says:

The Buccaneers and Eagles have agreed to a trade that will send receiver DeSean Jackson to his preferred destination, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

The Eagles gave up a sixth-round choice this year and a seventh-rounder next year,

    This is per PFT.

  70. StoutGospel Says:

    True @LC…

We had no 6th rounder before the DJax trade. It went to ARI for Arians. Now we do.

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen.

  71. StoutGospel Says:

    GUYS….EVERYONE….

Let the Comp Pick issue go. IT ONLY WORKS for perennial playoff teams. Truthfully. That have killer coaching staffs, and killer scouting departments. LET THE ISSUE GO.

Just worry about GETTING TO the playoffs.

    Go Bucs! Land Quinnen!

  72. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Rod

For sure. I’m definitely jumping the gun lol, knowing that playing time & accolades also are part of the formula; but it mostly seems to be driven by salary.

Guessing if we lose Kwon + Hump for $22M + and then signed like 4 guys that add up to $12M – we would still net a 3rd rounder.

Also still other potential cuts. But I’d be shocked if we don’t get at least a 3rd or 4th out of this offseason purge

  73. Jeffbuc Says:

    Hump signed with the titans

  74. Costa Rica John Says:

They are reporting a swap of our 7th and Jackson for the eagles 6th round pick. That’s a bad trade. I would have kept him and let him walk next year. Licht got ripped off in this trade. Now Humphries is gone to the Titans. Gonna be a new team next year.

  75. Jeffbuc Says:

And the trade for Jackson isn’t two picks. We traded Jackson and our 7th for that 6th. So we moved up like 15 spots from are 7th round pick

  76. Jeffbuc Says:

Coasta rica John how did we get ripped off. Every one new we were releasing him. We needed his 10 million for other players. They could have said screw you we will wait until you release him he wanted to go to philly. So they would have to put bid anybody. We were lucky to get anything for him. The only thing we can say was dumb is we could have traded him last year before the deadline for a 3rd or 4th. Should have pulled the trigger then.

  77. Arian Nation Says:

Djax and his agent have put the Bucs in a very strong negotiating position.

No matter what the Eagles are offering, the Bucs can now shop him around for a better deal/compensation.

    Genius!!!

  78. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

    Tampabaybucfan Says:
“Joe’s poll had 93% of us agreeing that we should not have matched SF’s offer for Kwon… That sort of makes me wonder about the other 7%……”

The other 7% was all GMC and his sock puppets voting for his dance partner.

    This x 1,000,000!

2019 is the year that Jamie’s Winston ascends into a “franchise” QB, or the Bucs are going to start talking about the QB position.
