Bucs Ready To Sweat

March 27th, 2019

Coming to Tampa.

The Bucs aren’t fooling around. Nor should they.

Top shelf edge rusher Montez Sweat will begin making his personal visits for sitdowns with NFL teams this weekend. And guess who is first on his list? That would be your Buccaneers, baby.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Sweat begins his tour of interested teams at One Buc Palace.

Joe has made it clear: Edge rusher, edge rusher, edge rusher. The Bucs may not have Gerald McCoy much longer. Jason Pierre-Paul seems to have a short shelf life as well (Joe would be mildly surprised if JPP is on the roster next year when the salary of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, skyrockets).

Hopefully the Bucs don’t draft at No. 5 or higher for years to come. Now is the time to pounce on that game-changing, game-wrecking edge rusher that is needed to win in today’s NFL.

It’s time for the Bucs to rid themselves of this weird allergy to young pass rushers.

But didn’t u say it’s gonna be a dt the last few days? Hmm

    I’d be cool with sweat.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

i really want QW or EO to replace GMC and create good quality depth but i could live with sweat @5…..

gerald willis, d.mack, i. buggs are all good DT’s…..

im hoping we select QW or EO in the 1st and jachi polite in the 2nd….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. JimmyJack Says:

Is Sweat going to be an elite Passrusher? Is he skilled enough to make a All Pro team?

I’m only drafting player that have yes answers. Especially at the passrushing position. It’s the deepest position of this draft so it’s the dumbest to reach for.

  4. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Hoping to trade down a few spots and pick up another DE. This year is loaded with edge rushers. Either way, I would be happy with Sweat.

  5. doolnutts Says:

Interesting draft for sure. I am honestly thrilled with any one of the big 3 DL that should be at our pick when the time comes. (Allen, Williams, Bosa) It is crazy to me that we should will have a shot at either one of the three.

  6. Larry Says:

At #5, Sweat is the best bet!! He is a beast. His heart will not be a problem. He could be a Buc for 5 years without breaking the banking. From what I see though it will be Devin White. Pity!

  7. Noles Says:

Lots of Noise about Oliver moving up baords bc Donald has made the lighter 3 technique vogue again. Especially w all the passing. His tape is LEGIT, mock draft last night had him at #4 to Raiders. That would make Williams available. QB’s usually go fast in top 5 w trades be interesting to see if one of the big 4 Fall to us.

  8. SeffnerSal Says:

The thing about any (even supposedly currently “minor”) heart condition is that no one can really regulate how much it will worsen, under which conditions, at which time short term or long term, etc.

Best just to pass on that perpetual unknown for such an important pick in the 1st round, when they’re are plenty others who will suffice, perhaps another DE in deference to a much better DT, with the lesser but still good DE being in combination with obtaining the DT first.

God rest Gaines Adams’ soul of course, but in general, just don’t need to take that kind of chance at any time, with Sweat’s issues.

  9. SeffnerSal Says:

Remember gang, the Bucs have 30 player visits allowed in total, many of which will be distractions as smokescreens this time of year.

  10. cspann Says:

I think it should be Sweat at 5 that is if Josh Allen does not falls to 5.

  11. Loyaltotheend Says:

Aren’t your LB’s your primary pass rushers in a 3-4?

  12. #1bucfan Says:

Edge, DT or linebacker I agree with eye-rah that we need a linebacker that can play sideline to sideline an cover all these pass catching RBs in our division

  13. SCBucsFan Says:

SeffnerSal that is not true at all. The heart condition could be something simple like a murmur which is not going to change and won’t effect him at all. Without knowing the condition it is just wrong to avoid the guy because of it. All heart issues are not created equally.

  14. donuts Says:

There is no next year for Winston unless he breaks out this year. He needs 9 wins or more to stay in Tampa. I think Buc fans including JBF should stop assuming anything when it comes to the new regime and BA. BA has no loyalty to Winston. Zero. Licht is nothing more than a do-boy for BA. Its the BA way or the highway!
Why else would Winston show up at BA golf tourney? The problem with Winston is he still thinks the stuff he did in college (i.e. schmoozing with coaches) works in the NFL. Not For Long…..is the NFL. No guarantee. Pro bowler…lmao. Winston’s nickname should be the 3 win QB. Winston has won 3 games in each of the past 2 years. Let that sink in. Its all about the Ws. Its the only thing people remember…did you win or lose.

You are what your record says you are. – Words of wisdom.

    “could be”…

Apparently someone that used the term above of “could be” meaning also could not be, missed the phrase that I used above in my original take of “no one can really regulate”.

Thus….chance is a huge part of it. So, with so many other viable options at the position, the wise and prudently professional thing to do is move on to a non-major-medical player.

  16. Dewey Selmon Says:

You try and draft guys you think will be pro bowlers. Quinnen Williams, and Devin White will be perennial pro-bowlers. Then Bosa, Allen, Oliver and Sweat should have pro bowl years, just not as consistently as the first two I mentioned.

  17. pelbuc Says:

Something about this guy reminds me of Julius Peppers.

  18. The Coroner Says:

Joe, what do you mean “allergies to young pass rushers”? What about Noah Spence – LOL. 🙂

  19. SCBucsFan Says:

SeffnerSal I don’t think we disagree the Bucs shouldn’t draft a player with heart issues – what I’m saying is unless we know what that condition is we shouldn’t assume it makes him undraftable.

  20. Bucsdelight Says:

Based on grades, here are your top 5 players.

    1. Quinnen Williams – 6.70
    2. Jeffery Simmons – 6.67
    3. Josh Allen – 6.66
    4. Nick Bosa – 6.55
    5. Rashan Gary – 6.4

6.50-6.99 meaning Chance to become Pro Bowl caliber player
6.00-6.49 meaning Should become instant starter

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

SCBucs I’m sorry but I have to agree with Sal. Sweat is an excellent player but he’s not really “generational” and so I hesitate to take any risk when the draft is loaded.

We have Docs on this site who can clear it up but if it’s a murmur that’s a definite no no. My wife had one since childhood. On one hand she did last till her late sixties before needing open heart surgery to repair her mitral valve…OTOH she wasn’t playing NFL football.

If the Bucs dropped down significantly and picked up multiple pics perhaps Sweat but definitely not a 5. Just one QB ahead of us means we get White or Allen.

  22. Buc4evr Says:

Possible Heart Condition? and based on past situations and mistakes, I don’t trust Buccaneer medical staff. Hard Pass.

  23. SCBucsFan Says:

Buc4evr which situations and mistakes are you talking about? Beckwith with the car accident? Adams with the heart condition the Bucs, Bears and the entire NFL missed? The MRSA that no one could find? Please, enlighten me.

  24. Lord Cornelius Says:

Interesting the 49ers and Raiders are interviewing him – 2 teams picking top 4.

  25. BringBucsBack Says:

No worries about his heart. I’m sure our top-flight medical staff will evaluate Sweat accurately, as soon as they get Sweezy off of their examination table.

I’m on the Q. Williams train. If you want Sweat (or White), he may still be available after a trade-down.

  26. SCBucsFan Says:

stpete there are all kind of murmurs, some which will worsen, some which are incidental and cause no problems. Sounds like your wife had MVP which would preclude you from drafting him (if that’s what he has) and a number of others (AS,AR) would too but a murmur like a 2 leaf valve instead of a 3 wouldn’t change over time nor require any treatment.

  27. Bucsdelight Says:

    Walter Football Mock Draft:

    1. Cards – Kyler Murray
    2. SF – Quinnen Williams
    3. NYJ – Nick Bosa
    4. OAK – Dwayne Haskins
    5. Bucs – Josh Allen

  28. Pigsueybucsfan Says:

Why does nobody mention Simmons? Is he that big of a personality risk?

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The other day….it was definitely Allen because Bowles took the time and money to travel to his pro day……yes…..it was Allen….
    NOPE…it’s Sweat……

  30. diggler Says:

Waaaaaay to high for this stringbean, heart is great but when you don’t have the frame or strength, he’s going to get ragged dolled every play. He doesn’t have an inside move. Josh Allen Josh Allen Josh Allen!

  31. SeffnerSal Says:

@SCBucsfan….what a lunatic. He makes it soo much harder than it needs to be. The loon acts like Montez Sweat is the ONLY DE in the draft. You let some other team take that risk. Period.

@stpetebucsfan…..sounds like we’re rolling rational and wiser. So many DE’s out there, but we need QUINNEN anyway. Go get that cat!

  32. JimmyJack Says:

Joe the rumbling for Q are getting louder by the day.

The fans have spoken and we need you to deliver!!!!! Throw us a bone and write-up a Q article. One article on Q every three days please.

  33. SCBucsFan Says:

Sorry to educated you Sal. No charge for the free consult.

  34. 813bucboi Says:

martez ivey visiting the bucs 4/12…..LT…..he would be a decent 4th or 5th round pick….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  35. Buccaneerscotty Says:

I’d be surprised if Winston was on this team next year!

  36. Buccaneerscotty Says:

We should be talking a Qb at 5!!! And ya’ll know it!!!

  37. Dapostman Says:

    @donuts,

Blake Bortles won 10 games in 2017. It’s not all about the QB. Aaron Rodgers is 10-12-1 over the last two seasons. When your team gives up 29 points a game your team has bigger issues than the QB.

    #stillthestupiestfanbaseintheNFLbyfar

  38. Jamaal Stanley Says:

Loyaltotheend to answer you yes they are. These people seem to believe otherwise. They’ll become believers draft night tho😊.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

    Bucsdelight….I like that!

  40. pertain Says:

SCBucsFan – “Buc4evr which situations and mistakes are you talking about? Beckwith with the car accident? Adams with the heart condition the Bucs, Bears and the entire NFL missed? The MRSA that no one could find? Please, enlighten me.'”

Have you forgotten that the medical staff gave Licht the green light on Sweezy, who had an existing back issue? How about giving the OK on Unrein, whose concussion history was well documented. And let’s not forget about Winston and Spence both being cleared to play with shoulder injuries.

I’m not sure you’re thinking of the same medical staff…

  41. Pryda30.... sec 147 Says:

Double digit sack guy in SEC runs a 4.41 yesss pleaseeee

  42. El_Buc941 Says:

Take hosh allen if hes there at #5! And in the second round if Sweats somehow slips get him there again!we have a high 2nd rounder so get him if hes available! The way this defense has played we need 2,TWO,DOS EDGE RUSHERS!

  43. Kobe Faker Says:

    “2019 Draft Busts

    Rashan Gary

    Montez Sweat

    Jachai Polite

    Elijah Holyfield

Kobe is expecting Gump to draft at least 3”

    Kobe Faker

  44. Bucsfanman Says:

Lots of defensive talent in this draft. I will continue to beat the drum asking why Clemson d-linemen are never mentioned. Dexter Lawrence? Clelin Ferrell? Christian Wilkins? Did anybody watch the National Championship?
It is highly unlikely that we land Q, Allen, or Bosa. Is Sweat that much better than Ferrell, or Lawrence?

  45. saskbuco Says:

Only way we don’t take this guy is if (hoping not) we draft a LB at 5. Unless another team trades up fro another QB, Allen and Williams are gone (unless a Chubb mini slide occurs).

I think there is a very strong chance, Sweat is the guy at 5.

  46. geno711 Says:

I was a Sweat fan before the combine but who really knows. Its not that I had him above Bosa or Allen. It was that I had him above Clelin Ferrell. In my opinion DE’s do not drop. There will not be a special one in the 2nd round so I agree with Joe. If you think he is special go after him or one of the other ones before a LB.

I like an Edge guy in the 1st round and then a Mack Wilson in 2nd at LB instead of Devin White in 1st round and Polite or Winovich in 2nd.

    How bout
    1. Montez Sweat – Edge
    2. Mack Wilson – LB
    3. Tytus Howard, Conner McGovern or Michael Dieter – OL
    4. Darrell Henderson, Ryquell Armstead -RB
    5. Mark Fields, Jordan Miller CB
    6. Joe Giles Harris LB
    7. Martez Ivey – OL

  47. saskbuco Says:

    @Pigsueybucsfan

Simmons tore is his ACL, or would be being talked about as much as Sweat at #5.
Hoping to snag him in top of 2, pair up them up, no way Simmons makes to 2nd round even with the ACL.

  48. Mike Evans Goat Says:

    Saskbuco
He could make it to the 2nd round. But if not there will be plenty of CBs and interior O Line left at the top of the 2nd. So that’s a nice consolation prize.

  49. SteveK Says:

Quinnen Williams is my favorite player in this draft. If he’s there at five- we better take him. He’s the man! Freak athlete, and from the interviews he sounds like a wonderful kid.

Put him next to Vea and we have the #1 DT tandem in the NFC S! Eat your hearts out, stinking panthers!

  50. SteveK Says:

Give me the 303 pound man that runs a 4.79. I want that SEC baller on my team! Quinnen at five would be a dream come true for this fan.

  51. westernbuc Says:

Jameis isn’t going to get a huge contract unless he plays his best season. Too many question marks, plenty of talent out there.

  52. Jeagan1999 Says:

I’d be ok with Sweat at 5…if Allen, Williams and Bosa are already gone… But if Miami or DENVER wants to give us some extra picks to move down a handful of spots, I would be fine with that too. Get a guy like Oliver in round 1 plus shore up our Oline and LB corps in round 2.

  53. Pigsueybucsfan Says:

    Thanks good info

  54. cmurda Says:

I talked to Licht and he is scouting kickers. He made it clear that he’s willing to jump on one at #5 overall. Think about the potential. There’s a good chance we could draft the best kicker available unless of course Chucky gets to him first.

  55. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Unfortunately Joe it is looking very much like the Bucs will have another top 5 pick next year. In fact I would venture to say that #1 overall is very much within reach.

  56. D1 Says:

    Bucsfanman,

Totally agree with you. Buc fans seem hyper focused on 3 guys. 3 guys which most likely will be gone. Then what!

That why I think You’re right on point, that group is solid across the line. The First round is 32 picks it’s a shame that only 3 guys are worth a damn.

    Sorry to educated you Sal.

Let’s all re-read that. Hmm. Someone that speaks like that, in sure in the position to be “educating” people right? Especially loosely translating his WebMD horsepit that no can prove/disprove, and he doesn’t even know up or down on Sweat.

    Keep educating you illiterate punk.

  58. Z31 BUCS Says:

^^ LOL saw that last night, Sal.

It is always fricking HILARIOUS when someone tries to throw crap around like SCBucsFan did at you….. only to then come off looking like they have the IQ of a grapefruit.
