Josh Allen Love

February 14th, 2019

Defensive end porn.

Joe is of the mind the Bucs should not trade down from their No. 5 draft position.

There are two reasons: First, we all should hope the Bucs never pick this high in the draft for a long time. The second is the Bucs have a shot of getting a generational player.

The two most important positions on a team are quarterback and a pass rusher. Joe loves Jason Pierre-Paul and cannot thank Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht for thieving him from the Giants. But JPP will be 32 when his contract expires after the 2020 season. Even when you are planning for today, you have to play for the future.

Monster defensive end Josh Allen of Kentucky makes Joe drool thinking of him for years wearing the ugly alarm clock numbers the Bucs have made famous in the NFL.

Joe isn’t the only person in love with Allen. Consider what closet Bucs fan and current co-host of “Good Morning, Football,” Peter Schrager had to say.

Shoot, Joe thinks Allen would be such a key addition to the Bucs, Joe wouldn’t mind if Licht even traded up for him.

If he is there at 5, we have to take him…..but, I doubt he’s there.

  2. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’m fine with staying at 5 if that’s truly the scenario (i.e. generational prospect especially at a premium position like DL/edge rush).

Right now it looks like Nick Bosa / Josh Allen / Quennin Williams = the only guys who fit that category.

Just depends on how the board falls on draft night.

When Barkley/Chubb/Nelson were all gone last year it was the same thing for me. Would be super interesting to know how Derwin James would have done as a Mike Smitty Buc in 2018’s historically bad defense. Probably would have converted him to punter or something or had him playing 65 yard away from the LOS

  3. Bruce Blahak Says:

Every “expert” has: Bosa-Q.Williams-Allen as the top 3 in the draft. He wont make it to #5 probably…

  4. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Joe being from Kentucky I watched this kid every game this seasin. He is a Beast and a Franchise Changer. On top of his skills he is a Kat of high Kharcter! A role model for all the kids in Kentucky!! Licht better listen to Joe on this one and get this guy!! Know Jason does what he wants and honestly in my opinion he makes crazy choices for the team. He chooses this kid and the Bucs will become so much better Defensively solely on his presence!!! Better listen to Joe Jason!!! Plus you take him I’m back on Board even if Tandy got screwed!!!

  5. DB55 Says:

Jaylon Ferguson, your welcome. Allen will be gone at 5

  6. Bird Says:

Agree with above. Those 3 guys should be top 3

We won’t have chance so why not trade back a few spots and get more.
Don’t think the best offensive tackle from Alabaman or Florida is 5 pick worthy.

Also, not sure about Olivier at 5 either. Think he is guy close to 10 pick. Let’s hope teams want that qb at our pick if those top 3 gone.

  7. 813bucboi Says:

it’ll be just our luck the raiders snag him at #4….lol….

all jokes aside, i dont think he’ll make it pass #3…..

i think bosa might slip tho….or at least i wish…lol…

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  8. Not there yet Says:

As a buc fan I am praying that the quarterback class have over the top successful combines and pro days that force multiple teams to fight and move up to draft 2-3 quarterbacks in the top 5, that’s the only way this kid gets to 5

  9. Darin Says:

Im all for trading down…IF Allen and Bosa are gone. Also for trading up for either. I hope 2 teams trade into the top 3 for qbs. And hope Gruden takes one at 4. Be sitting pretty.

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @DB55

Just saw he got dis-invited from the combine but it was over some sh1t from like 4 years ago at a McDonalds and he’s been a clean guy his 4 years at Louisana Tech. Been on the radar as a R2-R3 pick. Maybe he’s a guy you can get in R4-later possibly now but I doubt it if the scouts really love him.

Jeffery Simmons ACL tear also opens up a late round add potential.

Steroid to the d1ck lineman draft:

R1-move back after top 3 dudes gone, get DT Ed Oliver
    R2-OT Andre Dillard
    R2-OG Chris Lindstrom
    R3-RB Benny Snell
    R4-DE Jaylon Ferguson
    R5-DT/DE Justin Simmons

Something along those lines would be cool

  11. DB55 Says:

    Q Williams at 5

  12. SOEbuc Says:

Bosa and Allen are no doubt gone by #5. Depending on QB needy teams it comes down to Williams or Oliver. Broncos were a QB needy team but they just got Flacco to give them some leverage and Locke who Elway really likes has a good chance to still be at number 10.

  13. StoutGospel Says:

If Allen and Quinnen Williams are somehow both there at #5 due to any number of QB/trade/ Gruden surprise nonsense in first 4 picks….then we should take Quinnen Williams. Immediately and longer-term he is much more important to our DLine, and his uniqueness at his position is by far much more extraordinary than Josh Allen. The Donald-like push up the middle is so much more important down in and down out for our DLine pressure. And go look at Allen’s frame (height/weight/bulk) and his ability to add bulk or not. They’re decent, but NOTHING like Quinnen Williams’ build/stature already.

Quinnen is the pick, above all, if there at #5. BAR NONE. (of course GMC will be gone regardless of Quinnen or not).

    Quinnen! Go Bucs!

  14. Joeypoppems Says:

For the “he wont be there” crowd, this time last year Darnold was the #1 pick and Bradley Chubb wasnt getting past the Giants.

Anything can happen in the draft.

I do agree that he should be high on the Bucs list for sure.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

    Bruce Blahak

Not giving you any attitude, but every “expert” had OJ Howard going 8-12. You and I are just as equal to those guys mock drafts. My mock’s beat Mel’s every year. Don’t understand it. He gets paid way more and I have much better hair.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

    StoutGospel

Williams and Vea would give an image of Donald and Suh.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

    joe

i know this is off topic but it’s extremely relevant and urgent given the state of the union. Have you heard how the NFL plans to implement the GREEN NEW DEAL seems to me cows Flatulence is the least of the problems considering stadiums are filled each Sunday with 10’s of thousands of cheap beer drinking – junk food slamming gas producing real people! Seems like the NFL could be facing the same fate as automobiles and jet airplanes.

  18. Lamarcus Says:

Josh Allen is a elite player…..in college. He unproven in the NFL never taking a single snap. So how is a can’t miss player?

    Bucs better do your homework

  19. Joe in Michigan Says:

I want a fierce pass rush. Not sure Allen will be there at 5, but I never expected Bradley Chubb to be there at 5 last year for Denver. One of Allen, Q Williams, or Bosa. If not, Devin White of LSU.

  20. joestang Says:

trade up if possible, allen is worth it. Licht will screw this up, I hope no field goal kickers are available.

  21. scbucsfan Says:

Never make it to 5. If we are going to lust players we can’t have let’s lust Bosa.

  22. scbucsfan Says:

Joestang that’s funny about the kicker. Sorry, I mean that’s not funny. Let it go, get some new material.

  23. SenileSenior Says:

The Football Gods smiled on us when O.J. Howard fell to us at pick 19. They smiled upon us when Dirk Koetter was given one more year and then Arians decided to come out of retirement and come to lead us.

Imagine if just one of Bosa, Williams or Allen were “fated” to fall to us. Which one would the Football Gods bestow on us? Who knows if they still love us?

All this is part of my version of “fantasy football” at this time of the year.

  24. LocalJoker Says:

Something will happen unexpectedly. Watch and see!

  25. Jean Lafitte Says:

We have so many holes to fill. Trading back would give us more draft picks on what is going to be a very deep DL draft.

  26. DB55 Says:

    LC

You on point as always. I’m liking the OSU speedster Parris Campbell in the 2-3. And I found Humps replacement Andy Isabella from UMass.

There’s about 4-5 WRs running a 4.4 or better. I like Emanuel Hall out of Missouri too.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

    that’ll be a great draft….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Like I said before, if you want Josh Allen at 5 you better send him a bong and a camera NOW!

  29. The Coroner Says:

    Trade up – exactly!
Throw in GMC as part of the trade.
Extra incentive and also adds $13,000,000 to the cap space.
    OR
Trade GMC and a pick to the Jaguars for Leonard Fournette.

  30. Trench War Says:

That young man is a beast, but unfortunately I don’t see him being there at 5 and we can ill afford to spend picks to move up. It’s not like we have a bevy of compensatory picks to use as collateral. We need half a football team (exaggerated) and we only have 6 picks.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Allen is a true possibility. All four teams ahead of us will probably be getting trade offers for QBs

If not we are getting trade offers. This is shaping up to be a very exciting draft. Just like last year when we made a big trade.

  32. BUC IT Says:

Joe get a grip man. We aren’t trading up for him. That would be a ridiculously dumb move. We have ALOT of holes.

  33. TDTB Says:

If Allen or Williams are there at 5, it’s a no brainer. If not, trade down and pick White out of LSU.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

If Allen is sitting there at #4 I would be hoping a trade was announced, not a Raiders pick.

Bucs trade up one spot to get J.Allen future Bucs HOF!!! That would be a lot of fun with actual expectations for a change. That’s a Riscuit right there baby!!

Never watched J Allen play before but look forward to if the Bucs manage to get him.

Got the College Championship on DRV too. Quite a few possible Bucs playing in that game.

  35. AlamabaBucsFan Says:

No way Josh Allen falls to # 5. Should trade down if the top 3 DL are gone.

  36. Jeff Says:

    He’ll won’t be there. Top 2 pick . Keep dreaming .

  37. BucsFIRE Says:

    ^^ “He’ll won’t be there?”
    Nice English.

  38. RickinFtMyers Says:

if Josh Allen is there at #5 get him. Trading up would, in my mind, depend on what it costs to do so. I don’t agree with Joe, however, that a pass rusher is the second most important player on an NFL team. I’ll stick with version of priority espoused by actress Sandra Bullock in the opening to the movie “Blindside,” paraphrasing as any good housewife knows, the first bill you pay is the mortgage (a franchise quarterback) and the second bill you pay is the insurance (a good blindside tackle) to protect the original investment. So in my list of priorities for an NFL team a top-flight pass rusher comes in third place at best.
