Throwing Shade

January 17th, 2019

Who is he talkin’ ’bout?

Feel free to let your mind wander with this one.

New Bucs coach Bucco Bruce is on a media whirlwind. Everyone wants to talk with him and Arians seemingly wants to talk to everyone so he can pimp his charity golf outing in Arizona — and let the world know the Bucs’ offense will be led by America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

In a very interesting interview with uber-NFL insider Jay Glazer of The Athletic, Arians sure seemed to be throwing shade when Glazer, in so many words, asked Arians if he can fix Jameis.

Obviously, with the Bucs, your big thing is you’ve got to get something out of Jameis Winston. Why do you think you can do it as opposed to someone else?

I’ve always believed in him since the eleventh or tenth grade. I had him in football camp, he’s extremely bright, very athletic, he’s got a great arm, he’s in the office at five o’clock in the morning so it’s just a matter of him knowing his coach truly trusts him and that it’s his team. I think he really will bond to that.

Well now, Joe has two people in mind where this answer was indirectly pointed. The big name is a certain wide receiver who is scheduled to pull in eight-figures of salary in 2019, the guy who did his best to wreck Jameis, throw him under the bus, and see to it he was benched for good. And who might that receiver be?

Could it be the same receiver Ian Rapoport of NFL Network claimed Arians was going to try to sweet-talk into staying?

You know, malcontent DeSean Jackson?

He also said to Schefter a bunch of comments that lead you to believe he thinks dirk grossly underperformed
Yes, Joe shared these same quotes/comments here from other sources, as well. https://www.joebucsfan.com/2019/01/bruce-arians-on-jameis-some-of-those-things-will-go-away/

  2. RustyRhinos Says:

We will see how long that trust lasts, if Winston keeps up his lack of ball security and has WAY to many INT’s again we truly see how much faith Coach Arians has in Jameis. The NFL really is not for long if you dont win.
    GO BUCS!

  3. Stonedbuc Says:

He has to fix that relationship so it doesn’t linger in Winston’s head for the rest of his playing years.

    Koetter was a wet noodle.

  4. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

BA has Winston’s back and I believe it will make all the difference in the world come ‘19 season. JW was screwed coming off suspension while Fitz caught fire and won 2 Offensive Player of the Week Awards. Fitz won it elsewhere and is streakier than a set of skivvies after an all you can eat wingfest @ Abe’s . 🙂

  5. 813bucboi Says:

i think bruce is throwing shade at dirk…..

dirk never really seemed to trust winston or tell the media this was his team….with dirk it was always, “we’ll see how practice goes”….which imo, lead others like djax to run the locker room….

if the HC doesnt fully trust you, the players wont either….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  6. Not there yet Says:

Why would that have been meant for Desean Jackson sometimes I don’t get the logic. It’s almost as if your saying we can’t win without d jackass you know kinda like you were saying last year when you wanted the bucs to resign grimes even before the season ended. That is clearly meant for the coaching staff if for no other reason they benched him twice

  7. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

i think bruce is throwing shade at dirk…..

    This, all day long.

  8. rrsrq Says:

Makes you think that Jameis may have been communicating with BA all along, especially last year when he could have no contact with his teammates about football, I’m sure BA the broadcaster wasn’t off limits. You see he wasn’t asking for Jameis number because he already had it.

  9. AlteredEgo Says:

BA is going to meet his match in fixing Jamyth….I don’t know what he was like in 10th and 11th grade…..but since FSU & the Bucs….INT’s…fumbles….stumbles….and bonehead play on and off the field…this will be interesting

  10. Bucfan118 Says:

At what point do we hold Jamis accountable, it’s always someone else made him a bad quarterback. Bunch of snowflakes, maybe all he need is a trophy to make him feel like a real football player.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

I like how Bruce keeps telling us how this is Winston’s team.

I think Bruce has keyed in that sentiment knowing that it needs to be this way for Winston to succeed. Dirk never really talked like this about the team and may not have ever felt the trust that Bruce is talking about.

Full confidence that Bruce is going to change the environment for the team. Also confident that it will lead to a solid football team we will be watching on Sundays this year.(for a change)

  12. Bruce Blahak Says:

Love the coaching hire but going all in on Jameis could be a disaster. He will need to be a QB whisperer with Mr.Turnover machine…

  13. JimmyJack Says:

Bucfan118…..how do you want to hold Winston accountable?

You want him gone? I can understand that but their are still a lot of fans who believe in Winston. That means you have to consider both sides.

The decision has been made. It’s done with. So how do you wanna hold him accountable now?

All I can tell you is that debate aren’t going nowhere til Winston throws a pass again.

  14. Fire Light Says:

DJax is a piece of human garbage

  15. Loyaltotheend Says:

Same WR who Jameis couldn’t hit 95% of the time…

Same receiver who fans expected to make acrobatic and one handed catches on poorly throw balls by our supposed franchise qb?

Same receiver who was damn near uncoverable in man or press?

Dude doesn’t deserve all the blame he gets from the guys who wanted the Bucs to draft Johnny Manziel

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

The sheep can blame 1 wr all they want!!!!! If the offense does not take off or even worse takes a step back, Then angry fans are going to be wanting more than just a new QB next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was brought in is suppose to be an immediate upgrade with a very short term payoff!!!!!! They cannot flub it up this year and then have fans to wait thru a “reload” next year as welll

    The clock is ticking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Joseph Mamma Says:

Hey Joe should you really be using the word uber as an adjective to describe anyone?

  18. Joe in Michigan Says:

Man, a lot of you guys like dredging up the past. What does it help? Let’s talk about our bright future!!

  19. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

This is what BA is doing.

He has already started changing the losing mind-set of this woeful franchise.

1: He is using psychology before camp to change the culture. Ingraining over and over that Winston is his QB, and this will empower Winston as well as put the team on notice that this is the way it is …no if’s and/or but’s. Like it, great. Not like it, cya.

    2. All that talk about AB, again, basically telling every receiver on the Bucs that Divas will NOT be tolerated. You can bet Deshaun has taken notice of that.

    3. BA knows this is a mentally weak team, and he is starting to lay down the law, accept it or get out.

    4. Non committed about 93. Letting everyone know that NO ONE is safe.

I’m glad to see it, finally someone will hold these weak minded players accountable and also stand behind the ones that put the effort in.

  20. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Dirk……he never wanted him as the #1 pick…..thought he had too many off field issues and interception happy…

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Arians is throwin that shade at Koetter. Listen to that interview closely with Adam
Schefter. He’s tryin to be a little coy bout it though.

  22. Howard Cosell Says:

Lol Don’t let D Jax trigger you Joe.

I see Arrians Arains working his Phil Jacksonish magic already Lol. Man, I feel vulnerable and exposed when I feel confidence in the Bucs…..

I hope we don’t get fooled again

  23. DBS Says:

That should read former Pro Bowler. After all if Golden Tate is a former so is Jameis. Why is it the only player on this team that has been to a Pro Bowl is always called Pro Bowler? If anything he should be called Former Backup Pro Bowler.

    #813KNNOWSNOTHING!!!!….#KRISWASN’TTHEPICK!!!!….

  24. Howard Cosell Says:

    *Arians

(trying to be cute w/ the strikethru and I misspelled it again!)

    Arians
    Arians
    Arians

  25. JimBuc2 Says:

I watched Arians ‘Football Life’ youtube segment. Over and over. Today I put in a few tough hours of yard work. All day I’m singing “I’m gonna kick somebody’s a$$” while I raked and hauled. I effing love it. Buc fans, Team Glazer finally got it right. “If you don’t leave me alone, you better send me on home. Oh, I’m gonna kick somebody’s a$$.
    Go Bucco Bruce Arians!!

  26. Defense Rules Says:

A Lot of great one-liners in here …

@RustyRhinos … “We will see how long that trust lasts.”
@813bucboi … “if the HC doesnt fully trust you, the players wont either.”
@AlteredEgo … “BA is going to meet his match in fixing Jamyth.”
@Bucfan118 … “At what point do we hold Jamis accountable, it’s always someone else made him a bad quarterback.”
@AKickintheBucNuts … “He (BA) has already started changing the losing mind-set of this woeful franchise.”
    @HowardCosell … “I hope we don’t get fooled again.”

Starting to see a trend here. And that trend is all over the place. Personally I’m with Howard, but I’m still ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ it’ll all work out … this time.

  27. down in the dirt Doug Says:

I think Jameis will come out of his mistakes and troubles with the help of this great coaching staff.I am proud of Jameis for weathering the continuing storm about his character.I don’t feel he ever got the support he needed from Koeter.TAKE US TO THE PROMISED LAND SIR–AND CAN WE SEE A SMILE THIS SPRING.

  28. “That guy” Says:

Stop casting shade joe, at least wait till our first loss of the coming year. Smh.

  29. tmaxcon Says:

again if the Glazers had a sack they would never allow their team to fall into disarray. good owners, good leaders would have stepped in right away and ended this BS…. but no the spineless and incompetent glazers throw season after season away because A) they have no clue what they are doing b) zero leadership from the top. spineless owners, spineless organization and spineless on the field. it all starts at the top and that has not changed.

  30. BringBucsBack Says:

The psychology is a little ambiguous to me, here. BA is completely behind #3, all-in, 100%! Great! “…so it’s just a matter of him knowing his coach truly trusts him and it’s his team.”

Until this past year, he has had NO competition, it’s always been his team; it was handed to him. BA may trust #3 more but, Koetter worked with #3 far more and contrary to what many believe, Koetter showed a lot of trust and patience in #3.

I thought with the new sheriff in town, everyone was on notice; everyone had to earn their job and be challenged and compete for their jobs- culture change & all that. #3’s first real professional competition came last year and he stumbled fairly badly and earned his benching.

Are we back to gifting #3 his job in spite of the many reasons to honestly consider an upgrade via REAL competition? It sounds that way.

#3 is just good enough that we won’t replace him. Stated another way: plenty of talented QBs will become available and move on to other teams while we still hope and pray that all conditions are made perfect for #3 to become the player we expected him to become three years ago.

Oh yes, if ONE (1) more woman comes forward, it’s curtains!

  31. Howard Cosell Says:

These are frightening times for Winston haters

  32. lambchop Says:

BA’s quote was all about Koetter, you know “coach”? Where’s DJax in all of this?

  33. LargoBuc Says:

To be fair, its easy to say Dirk should’ve trusted Winston. I’m sure Dirk wanted nothing more than to trust his starting qb. The one who holds/held his job in his hands…fingers crossed!

  34. LargoBuc Says:

And as for DJax im kinda indifferent to him. If he buys in this time then cool. If not, don’t let the glass doors hit ya where the good lord split ya!

  35. Jean Lafitte Says:

yeah that should make him more accurate after 4 seasons

  36. unbelievable Says:

LOL well if Jackson is one of those 2 names, it’s pretty damn obvious that Dirk is the other…

  37. D1 Says:

BA is creating a safe space for Winston . Koetter treated Winston like a man.
BA should be far more successful with that approach vs Koetters.

  38. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

The man is trashing Koetter. It’s sad to me too. Bruce Arians and this entire team has been bashing and trashing Koetter. Koetter got burned here if you ask me. They tried to hire Jon Gruden last year so they have been looking for that splash hire for a while. They were probably talking to Bruce Arians since last season ended and he just wanted to sit back for a year. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole team came back for a few more seasons including McCoy but they are down on him though because of his passion the same passion I had questions about when we drafted him. Just go back to everything Brent and Miko said, everything Djax did to Koetter, and the lack of fire from McCoy and Winston at the end of the season. TBH I think Koetter may have even put Djax up to hyping Fitz in the media I say because Djax ain’t riding with Fitzmagic now. He’s still bonding with the team though as if he’s coming back next season, but McCoy may either be out or that brass is really putting the pressure on him but he sounds like a different player these days like it’s not just about suiting up and having fun anymore.

  39. Destinjohnny Says:

So jameis will see the field next year and be accurate ?
The o line will be good and Ronald jones will make the pro bowl?

  40. ChipBuc Says:

As John Gruden would say Jimminy Christmas. What a bunch of negative people we have on this board anymore. How about letting the people who see promise in this hire, have a few weeks to feel good. We get it some of you hate Winston, big surprise. Lets see how things play out before all the negative talk. You yahoos will have plenty of time to bitch later on when things don’t go smooth. Just saying!!!!
