Interesting Fit

January 7th, 2019

Bruce Arians.

Yes, Bucs fans are geeked over the likelihood of Bruce Arians coming out of retirement to be the head coach succeeding Dirk Koetter.

By many accounts and reports, not just Joe’s, Arians is the clubhouse leader to land the Bucs job. And in the mind of Field Yates of BSPN, there may not be a better fit.

In fact, Yates seems to think the Bucs offense under Arians might just be Koetter’s on steroids.

And Joe can just about guarantee the running game will be beefed up. We will find out fairly quickly if Ronald Jones has untapped potential or if he is a colossal bust.

Another interesting move for Arians would be if he wants to put up with the nonsense from malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson, or if Arians will wash his hands of Jackson and go get a medium-priced free agent wide receiver to replace Jackson.

Can we trade dramatic malcontents? I’ll take L-Bell over D-Jax.

  2. Hodad Says:

Don’t need a FA receiver, just resign Hump, and bring Bobo, and Watson along.

  3. VFL98 Says:

SMH!! Unbelievable!! How many other teams are trying to get Arians??? Thought so. ZERO!! Only in Tampa can they turn an old retired coach who has only won ONE playoff game as a HC into some genius and get the fans fired up. Joe you should teach a Marketing class. Great job! Only time will tell who is right.

  4. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

    ^ agreed

  5. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Also took him having a future hall of fame WR and Qb to score one decimal better than Winston and mike Evans?? C’mon now guys.

  6. Tampabucfan88 Says:

^dissagree you don’t know what how meany teams reached out him he could have easily denied to interview

  7. Pete I Says:

Must admit “geeked” is not how I would say it. More like resigned and hoping a retread will not make us look foolish for passing on a hot young coach.

Interesting that Cardinals fans who are looking for a coach generally aren’t interested in having Arians back…and it seems clear he is not interested in going back.

Arians record is nothing special but this is all to try to fix Jameis, an ongoing mess.

Hope it works out but doubts…I’m full of them.

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

“Larry Fitzgerald to teach MeMe Evans how to run routes and use his body position to catch short passes…might as well bring David Johnson. BA demands his RBs to catch and our backs make druggie Martin look like Marshal Faulk”

    Kobe Faker

  9. Jeff Says:

Grimes and DJax need to go. Nothing personal, but those kind of attitudes have no place in this rebuild, IMO.

  10. Bird Says:

    Kobe

I don’t think anyone needs to teach mike Evans anything

He was first in NFL history to 6,000 yards. Safe to say he is pretty good.

  11. Andrew Says:

He’s a two-time NFL coach of the year and has coached a star studded list of QBs. Age isnt ideal but come on people, this is a proven guy. He also had a third string qb during one playoff run.

Finally we may unleash OJ Howard. No more of this 3-5 targets a game and 60% of the snaps.

  12. mdsbuc Says:

I think Joe that it is good that you did not say, “All Bucs’ fans are are geeked over the likelihood of Bruce Arians coming out of retirement to be the head coach succeeding Dirk Koetter.”

    That would bring the syllogism:

All Bucs’ fans are geeked over Bruce Allen
    I am a Bucs’ fan
    Therefore, I am geeked.

The fact is, I am not geeked…

Therefore, “Some” Bucs’ fans are geeked…

  13. mdsbuc Says:

    *Arians

  14. zzbuc Says:

Jeff agreed on both, specially on Grimes, who started spekaing out when he will not be in next year, talking stupid things on the coaches, I used to like him, but he showed us what kind of person he is…..those things have only one place to talk, and is the locker room, you pathetic piece of sh*t!!!! And in your wife´s podcast…..just unreal…….I hope whoever the next coach is, brings some old school coaching……..That´s what is needed at One buc ….No primma donnas tired of this twiter/instagram, divas, full of negative ego, always me first and the team last………

  15. Ndog Says:

My goodness some of are never happy.

    You think Jameis sucks.
    You the Arians sucks.
    You the GMC sucks.
    You think Koetter sucks.
    You think Djax sucks.
    You think Vea sucks.
    You think Smith sucks.
    You think Barber sucks.
    You think Rojo sucks.
    You think Licht sucks.

At what point are you people just negative babies that need to grow up?

I get that some suck and I completely agree and have said so myself, but for some of you EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING sucks.

  16. Bird Says:

    Ndog

Don’t be a hypocrite. You commented multiple times that gmc is worthless

  17. Pete I Says:

    Well you definitely suck NDogg

  18. Darin Says:

    Vfl
Would you pursue someone who told you not to? Arians told everyone he’d only coach the Browns or Bucs. Listen up. Ill take a proven nfl head coach any day over klueless or another coordinator. Time will tell. Correct.

  19. Bird Says:

Jameis and gmc has average numbers this year

So you can’t make excuses/worship one and trash the other.

That’s hypocrisy at its finest. And makes you no better then the whiners

  20. Pete I Says:

    @ Darin

Lovie was a proven NFL coach who took a team to the Superbowl.

    Experience isn’t always a plus…

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    98

i agree…..no one else is trying to interview him…..

hiring bruce would be a huge mistake…..

we just got finished beiig the tampa bay falcons!!!!!…….now fans want to before the tampa bay cardinals…..lol….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Please arians make Jamies and djax kiss and make up

  23. SammyRebel Says:

Joe, I think if BA is brought in, he’ll bring in some of his Arizona boys with him, players such as JJ Nelson, cheaper than D-Jax and just as fast, BA really brought the most out of him, wouldn’t be surprised if we brought in Mike Iupati either to bridge that RG situation bc Caleb Benenoch just can’t do it

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

    Arians>Koetter
While Arians may not be the “sexy” HC some are looking for, what he does bring is immediate credibility. And, if anyone’s going to change a culture, he is certainly capable.
    It goes beyond W/L records.
Everybody’s looking for the next Sean McVay. He is the exception, not the norm. For a franchise that has spent 90% of its existence losing, what’s wrong with looking for proven winners?

  25. BucTown Says:

Can you imagine Winston teamed with the ‘no risk it, no biscuit’ head coach? Jameis would have absolutely no competition for the turnover title.

  26. Buccernutter Says:

We’re at a point that some bucs fans think Arians would be a bad hire.

Lol I can’t even believe how bad some of your football is, guys. SMH.

  27. James Walker Says:

How about we let the coaches coach.

  28. Nick2 Says:

VFL, One playoff game victory is one playoff game more than we have had since Gruden left (16 years). In fact one playoff appearance is more. 813bucboi, Arians was not fired as head coach as Mike Smith was. For me its the perfect marriage and he will finally bring a running game to Tampa again. That will lighten the load for all of the Jameis haters. Face it Jameis hasn’t had a running game since Doug Martin left which happened to be a 9-7 season. I am psyched please have Arians sign today and not pull a Parcells on us.

  29. James Walker Says:

When the Bucs are 4-12 next year who gets blamed next? The guy cutting the grass at Ray Jay?

  30. ben Says:

What bothers me is …Who else wants Arians? It appears Arians is NOT on any other teams radar!!

  31. ncbucsfan Says:

Another possibility is that Arians will probably attract John Brown from the Ravens in hopes he can return to the player he was with the Cards. He is as fast as Djax, 28yrs old, and knows Arians system. Not to mention he is a free agent and last years Ravens contract was for 1yr/$500k. Much cheaper than Djax’s $11 million price tag.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

    nick2

i never said he was fired…..

bruce isnt the only coach that would bring a run game to tampa…..

winston and the offense dont need bruce…..we need a defensive minded coach that will fix the defense and develop players…..

kris richard will be the pick….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  33. VA2SCBUC Says:

Go get John Brown to stretch the field.

  34. 813bucboi Says:

    BEN

    BINGO!!!!!

only 1 team has interviewed hue jackson as well…..lol…

folks cant see what going on…licht is doing his friend a favor….trying to help drawn up interest….but no one is buying it…..only delusional bucs fans….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  35. Fire Light Says:

    0 chance MeJax is back

  36. 813bucboi Says:

and folks keep talking about airing it out with FA wrs like john brown……get another RB and a run game first!!!!!

thats the problem…..bruce likes to throw deep just as much as dirk….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  37. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Bruce Arians is a perfect fit, and if he brings Todd Bowles with him and keeps Brentson Buckner on staff, that is even better.

Let’s make it happen, and watch Arians take the reigns of the BUCS.

  38. Tbbucs3 Says:

Bruce Arians has mutual respect throughout the entire NFL among front office, players and coaches. That’s rare. Gotta get that dude, why are we waiting get him now before someone else does.

  39. Tbbucs3 Says:

Bruce Arians obviously knows something about the Bucs considering everytime we played him his Carnials team beat us 48-10. He is a real NFL coach that knows how to get his team ready Week in week out.

  40. TexBuc Says:

Arians also runs the 4 Vertical offense Koetter ran, but with a heavier emphasis on running the ball and using the RB as a pass catcher. Transition for Winston would be just learning the new verbiage of Arians playbook.

  41. Ndog Says:

Yes Bird and I said that in my post, see below, but what I don’t do is complain and cry about everything like some of these babies do. It’s like you guys don’t even read the entire post or something. You must have been ESPN bred journalists where you take part of a statement and make it what you want instead of actually telling the truth.

I get that some suck and I completely agree and have said so myself, but for some of you EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING sucks.

  42. Tbbucs3 Says:

O Jim Harbaugh is a media circus clown

O Kris Richard is the product of unreal talent on a Cowboys Defense, unproven coordinator, how has that worked out for the Bucs?

O Mike McCarthy runs an Elementary School Offense

Bruce Arians is one of the best NFL offensive minds of all time.

  43. TheCoroner Says:

Sign Kareem Hunt. He can room with Jameis …..

and learn how stupid actions can almost ruin your career and cost you millions and millions of dollars. Like to be a fly on that wall.

  44. TOM Says:

I completely forgot about Hunt. It would be worth looking into. I think BA would be the type of coach that could straighten him out. That’s provided everything goes the way I’m hoping it will.

  45. 813bucboi Says:

    tbbucs3

you just embarrassed yourself by saying richard is unproven as a DC…..check his defenses in seattle from 2015-2017….hell, check out where the dallas defense was ranked last year before he got there and what it is now…..

check out where members of the LOB were drafted and how he developed them?…..same with dallas…..

he’s turned byron jones into a pro bowl cb after he was moved to FS and considered a bust…..

    you just embarrassed yourself dude….lol….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  46. Pick6 Says:

Lovie lived off of Hall of Fame talent and Ron Rivera’s great work as a coordinator. Bruce Arians was thrown into iffy situation after iffy situation and produced winning seasons. This is not the same type of retread coach. This is a guy who built up talent instead of coasting on it

  47. Tbbucs3 Says:

    813bucboi

Was referring to Richard as an unproven “headcoach”, obviously

Being a good coordinator does not mean you know how to be a good head coach.

How has that worked out for the Bucs? We’re talking about finding a new coach head, not a new DC. There’s a difference.

ARIANS resume > Richards and it’s not even close.

    #ARIANSORBUST

  48. stpetebucsfan Says:

Pete Carroll and Bill Belichek. Two good coaches? Two VERY GOOD coaches? One is great and the other is not far behind.

BOTH of these guys were hired by the present teams despite failing as NFL HC’s at their last NFL HC jobs.

NOBODY has a perfect record. It’s an incredibly competitive league. ANY hire we make has risk. I think Arians minimizes a lot of the normal risk that goes with gambling with coordinators getting their first gig as HC. Sometimes that works really well…sometimes it works very poorly.

  49. 813bucboi Says:

    tbbucs3

and arians has proven he can win what?….lol….he cant even win the NFC….

lovie was proven…..he took the bears to an SB with lousy jay cutler as his QB…how’d that work out for us?…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  50. Kevinator24 Says:

    @ 813bucboi
You mean lousy Rex Grossman lol

  51. Tbbucs3 Says:

    813bucboi

Comparing Lovie Smith to Bruce Arians makes you look ridiculous. That’s embarrassing.

    #ARIANSORBUST

  52. 813bucboi Says:

    tbbucs3

im not comparing the 2…..you were talking about “proven”….lol…..

lovie has proven he can take a lousy qb to the SB as HC…..

    has bruce “proven” that?…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!
