New Standard Set?

December 1st, 2018

Swift justice?

It seems yesterday a new standard was set for tolerance in the NFL. And America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, just got in under the wire.

Last night, the Chiefs, a team with real aspirations of a Super Bowl run with one of the most exciting offenses the NFL has ever seen, cut loose one of the best running backs in the league. And why exactly would Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and his staff do such a thing to the team and its fans in a potentially historic season?

It is because video surfaced of Kareem Hunt in a physical altercation with a woman.

Clearly, this is disgusting behavior roughing up a woman. Still, with so much at stake for the Chiefs, Joe was stunned the Chiefs cut him. Seems video of the incident, leaked to TMZ.com, set the Chiefs’ actions into gear.

Why is Joe bringing up the Chiefs and Hunt on a Bucs site? Because it reminds Joe of how lucky America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston is.

The Chiefs claimed they cut Hunt yesterday because he lied about the altercation, which allegedly took place last summer in a Cleveland hotel.

Well, also last summer, NFL strongman Roger Goodell sentenced Jameis to a three-game suspension for a hassle with an Uber driver that took place two years ago in Arizona. This incident came to light roughly a year ago in an article first published on Buzzfeed.com.

At the time, Jameis strongly denied anything took place. Goodell, in part, suspended Jameis because Goodell didn’t buy what Jameis and his star witness, the notorious Ronald Darby, were selling.

In short, Jameis lied to his teammates, his coaches, Team Glazer and legions of Bucs fans. It’s part of the reason the Bucs have a less-than-one percent chance at a playoff berth — because Jameis missed the first three weeks of the season and now as we enter December, he may now just be getting over the missed time.

Joe is in no way condoning Hunt conning Chiefs officials. And since there is video of Hunt throwing a woman down to the floor, the SOB ought to do some time in an Ohio county cage.

So now the new standard in the NFL is to be cut from your team for lying, not just suspended? Cut in the middle of a potential Super Bowl run?

Both Jameis and Bucs fans should be thanking their lucky stars this Hunt nonsense happened when it did, or the Bucs would be in full-blown quarterback hunt mode.

    Sign him. no one except him and people involved the night of the incident know if alcohol or drugs were an influence on his actions. Clearly he didn’t go after her for pure pleasure. Sure his actions aren’t excusable but let’s get everyones side of the story. Jameis would be the perfect person to lead this young man on a straight path. Many people are going to make fun of my comments but who better to set an example and lead than someone who’s been there done that. Plus a year from now no one will remember and the Bucs will have a legit RB. Look at Cincinnati drafting Joe Mixon.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

    The Redskins will sign him…

  3. Bill Says:

    You’re missing the fact that RB’s don’t really matter anymore.

    See PIT

    See KC

    They don’t matter, as difficult as it might be to accept, the numbers suggest it. The NFL is agreeing. RB’s are meaningless. Creative playcalling is the new age. Where does Koetter fit in?

  4. kyle Says:

    Did anyone listen to total access w Koetter on wdae last night? Some guy called in and asked Koetter how long has he sucked a$$!!! I couldnt believe it, I thought radio stations operated on a delay so they can dump things like that. I felt bad for Dirk, it takes some stones to take live calls like that. I have to admit I did chuckle…

  5. AtlBuc Says:

    Joe – In short, Jameis lied to his teammates, his coaches, Team Glazer and legions of Bucs fans.

    Joe, Jameis did make public statements denying what he was accused of. 1. Just because he reached deals and settlements do not mean he did what he was accused of. 2. The fact that he made public statements denying what he was accused of does not mean he lied to his teammates, coaches, and the Glazers. We don’t know what he talked to them about in private.

  6. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    That is hilarious. I want Jameis to return but I want him no where near troubled players. That was a joke correct?

  7. AtlBuc Says:

    Bill, both of the teams you mentioned have, or had, a great running back. Conner is tearing it up in LeMeon’s absence.

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Agreed, Jameis very fortunate and he better damn realize how lucky he is and there will be no more 2nd chances.

    NFL, will lifetime bann JW if he is connected to another incident. Kobe Faker believes JW has learned and will make himself involved in future behavior”

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    There is a difference between the Winston and Hunt incidents.

    The Winston thing, lacking actual evidence, is still a she-said-he-said with circumstantial evidence.

    There is video evidence against hunt.

    While Goodell and the Bucs may have *felt* Winston wasn’t totally honest, the Chefs KNOW Hunt lied.

  10. Bill Says:

    AltBuc,

    You’re making my point. It’s not the RB, it’s the offense.

  11. Bill Says:

    KC knows this too. That’s why they cut Hunt

  12. NPRSageBoy Says:

    Jettison JayMiss. Why should he be held to a lower standard?

  13. AtlBuc Says:

    Bill, let’s keep an eye on KC to see how they do without him. It will

  14. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    The two big differences here, video of hunt, and Kansas City runs a class franchise. If the chiefs tank from this point on this season, they won’t really care because they can hold their heads up and say they did the right thing and would do it again. No one player is bigger than the team.

    That said, I figure hunt had a new team but Monday, because the NFL lacks any real class as a whole.

  15. Robert Says:

    From what I saw she was the aggressor. She stepped to him 1st and then again several times more!

    There’s some crazies out there…..I dated one who would lose her $hit on me swinging the entire time. I callled the police once only to be laughed at basically. I put a stop to it after that. Major double standard IMO

    She was in his grill and I bet a lot more we did not see.

  16. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    “Jettison JayMiss. Why should he be held to a lower standard?”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It is not a lower standard. Jameis has never caused bodily injury to another.
    Crabman and his boys destroyed the tape.
    One of the main reasons I call bs
    Of course Joe was stunned. Joe appears to have skewed values when moral responsibilities and fiscal incentives are in conflict.
    JW would lead hunt straight into a sess pool of sexual assault, somehow involving stolen crab legs, and Uber drivers. With the finale featuring the worsts beat down of some poor woman’s life, after she already left her dignity and self respect in shambles in a hotel room.
    More like the blind leading the blind.
    Maybe JW should speak with Charlie sheen about winning.
    They seem to have similar philosophy’s.
  23. TheCoroner Says:
    Yes. Someone will sign Hunt.
    She slapped him.
    Reportedly called him a N. He blew up. No excuse. Lied. No excuse.
    Sign him with a very tight prove you can control yourself contract.
    Lagarette Blount was an idiot. Bucs got rid of him. Grew up. Has a couple SB rings.
    Aquib Talib was also an idiot. Also cut by Bucs. Grew up.
    Also has a couple SB rings.
    Have any us of not totally screwed Up? Did we have a chance to make amends?
  28. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:
    Did you guys even watch the video???
    It was just a bunch of mutual pushing and shoving. He lightly tapped her with his foot while she was on the ground, you guys act like he field goal kicked her face.
    The girl aggressively confronted him, so you’re saying women can hit men but men can’t hit them back??? Dafuq is this BS, what about gender equality?
    Only reason Kareem Hunt is demonized is because he is black and she was white!
    F# outta here
  29. gotbbucs Says:
    If there was video of Winston grabbing the driver’s crotch he would have been released too.
  30. Dapostman Says:
    Bucs should absolutely sign Kareem Hunt and put him on defense. We need some guys who like to hit on defense.
  31. T REX Says:
    Winston played the I don’t remember card like the POS he is…remember who Winston was with that? A convicted rapist and Darby who was a witness at another alleged rape. Great company. But he’s all grown up now. You can’t change the fabric of your soul.
    No to Hunt. No to Winston. Do you want RJS to be empty?
  32. The Real Malloy Says:
    Dapostman….LOL
  33. Pickgrin Says:
    The woman was the aggressor. She kept coming at them and did assault Hunt first. And she was using the N-word liberally….
    Doesn’t make his physical response acceptable – but certainly a bit more understandable
    That light little kick to her butt while she was down at the end though is what looks bad on video – even thou I don’t think that “kick” hurt her at all – it shows he had lost control of his actions enough to make the motion – even though there was little to no force behind it…
    That little feigned kick is going to cost Hunt quite a bit. Already has considering a Super Bowl contending team cut him immediately over it.
    This too shall pass though. Its not really that big a deal from what I saw.
    Police saw the video that night, talked to all involved and decided not to arrest anyone.
    Why does the league and the court of public opinion get to pass judgement in a harsh way on these players not really knowing the facts – when in this case the very system that is set up to do that, LEOs – investigate evidence, question both sides – and decide that an arrest or charges were not warranted considering all the evidence known to them???
    From what I see on the video and the little that has been shown from police interviewing those involved – I’d say the police on scene rightly deducted this incident was more of a “hassle” – than a criminal act on anyone’s part – and seemed to kinda chalk the responsibility of the whole situation up to “beotches be crazy sometimes”…
    I did. The real one. You musta seen the doctored White House version.
    He musta used my old line
  36. 1sparkybuc Says:
    Too many people here STILL don’t know the difference between accused and convicted. Could it be for them that being white and female Trumps being black and male when truth is the issue? That’s ridiculously funny and also sad.
  37. Waterboy Says:
    When considering he’s still on a rookie contract for another 3 years and making less than 1 mil per season. I’d definitely claim him off waivers while I get more information on that situation and his overall history.
  38. nate s Says:
    sign him our team sucks and fans arent showing up anyways
  39. stpetebucsfan Says:
    Ah yes…let’s change our culture by taking losers who feel the need to put their hands on women. IT’S WRONG!!!
    My father would come in drunk after cheating on my mother. My mother had a bad temper and would start yelling things at my father…I wanted to join her in the yelling but I was a wimp.
    Of course then my father had the EXCUSE to beat the hell out of my mother. If he was black she might have dropped an Nbomb on him eh? It’s ALWAYS a very one sided deal no matter how tough…my mom was very tough. You just can’t give up that
    much size and testosterone and think there’s any chance the woman can actually defend herself.
    Men who hit women are sissies….it’s a simple as that.
    BTW…Legarrette Blount was such as “stud” including sucker punching opponents after a loss that he couldn’t keep a job.
    Why do you all keep pointing to the Bucs for cutting him. What about Belichek and Tomlin…why did they cut the POS? Repeatedly. Yeah this is the culture change we need!
  40. El_Buc941 Says:
    Can anyone verify if he was intoxicated?cause he barely touched the chick and only did after she repeatedly assaulted him verbally and physically.i know he should’ve could’ve and would’ve held back but when someone snaps like that there is definitely waaaaay more to the story than we know. To me they have history together and I have a feeling the emotions didn’t start running from the very second they pressed record on the tape. Basically if we don’t claim him someone else will(Patriots) and he will make them a contender and this well all be forgotten next season. Also if we sign him sign him to a prove it deal with strict guidelines and FORCE HIM to complete domestic violence and anger management programs. We shouldn’t be belittling a guy for errors…we should be helping him improve his life and show everyone deserves a second chance.
  41. Owlykat Says:
    We don’t need Hunt, especially when he may be suspended by the League or even banned. We need a very fast Big Back who can break tackles and force his own hole and take it to the house; like Cook who Licht let slip through his fingers because he thought he could get a RB in the 5th round, LOL, plus he had to use another pick to move up to the second round to grab a Franchise Kicker. A fiasco and a half.
  42. Jmarkbuc Says:
    El Buc
    Is that what we are the Second chanceaneers…..
  43. TOM Says:
    Sign him. After all the Bengals drafted Mixon after he punched a woman in the face & broke her cheek bone & nobody made a big deal out of it. I don’t condone what Hunt did or why but the Chiefs may have jumped the gun. Its not like the Bucs have any great RB’s.
  44. cmurda Says:
    Chiefs claimed Hunt lied and I’m sure the NFL will too. Please stop with the racist nonsense that she was white antagonizing the black guy. Please. I guess I was raised to respect women. Shame on me. Some of you people are sad. Saying that if she comes up to him and touches him, he should be able to hit her back. Ummm, no. Men are built different than women and we should not hit women under any circumstance. She is clearly wrong however and if Hunt had not hit her, she should have been arrested for assault. This is nowhere near as serious as the Ray Rice incident. Actually, if you watch the video the girl was concussed and actually I think the guy was also. I have no problem with Kareem defending himself against the guy that was there but the guy didn’t seem to be aggressive. He actually seems to try to break it up. It was definitely an ugly situation. With all of that said, I’m all about the Bucs signing him to a low risk deal. He’s a top 5 RB that made a mistake he hopefully has learned from. We all make them at 22 years old. Give this man another chance while helping the team.
  45. cmurda Says:
    @Jmark. No, we are actually the opposite. We have cut any men that have had off-field issues such as Michael Bennett and Talib. Both of which have cleaned up their act and been great players. It would be a welcome change for us to give people a second chance.
  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    “Goodell, in part, suspended Jameis because Goodell didn’t buy what Jameis and his star witness, the notorious Ronald Darby, were selling.”
    Sorry, Joe. I do not buy that.
    Goodell suspended Jameis because he had to for public image.
    There is no proof that Jameis lied. In fact, as near as anyone can point out, he did not lie at all. Everything he said was the truth as he remembered it.
    And in the end? The NFL was unable to find proof that he did anything other than ride in the car.
  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    And if you disagree, then please…lay out the proof for us. All of it was disputable.
  48. cmurda Says:
    @Bonzai. I disagree. I’m not sure I don’t need to layout proof. Nothing but love for you Bonzai but I think you are way off on this one. The only proof you need is to listen to Jameis apologize. If Jameis did nothing more than ride in an Uber, then WTF is he apologizing for. Bro, he did it. The NFL knows he did it, Jameis knows he did it, Darby knows he did it and so does the Uber girl. I wanted to believe that this was nothing but a golddigging opportunity for her but it happened. I’m one of the biggest Winston supporters and I’m still a Winston supporter but reality is reality.
  49. cmurda Says:
    I’m not sure I need to layout….
  50. Oxycondoms Says:
    Hunt got lucky on that shove that woman could’ve seriously got hurt if she went face first into that wall which almost happened
  51. Pancake block Says:
    KC is only big enough for 1 domestic abuser…looks like tyreek hill is the choice
  52. Jmarkbuc Says:
    “we should be helping him improve his life and show everyone deserves a second chance”
    WTF? why doe “we” need to do any such thing?
    Playing in the NFL is a privilege,not a right.
    If one of my male employees did this, I’d fire him too…especially if he lied to me about it, then makes me look foolish when the video comes out.
    SPBF is right.
  53. stpetebucsfan Says:
    “Goodell suspended Jameis because he had to for public image.”
    Bonzai
    Perhaps slowly but surely you’re beginning to get it. It’s not the pusssy grabbing per se it’s the entire evening that got JW into trouble.
    So imagine Bonzai that JW NEVER again touches a woman inappropriately. Heck if you wish assume he never has.
    If next off season he is out blackout drunk at 3AM with a convicted rapist and another guy with a bad rep and patrons grab their phones and video all of his behavior. What if it includes racist or homophobic slurs and goes viral. NO touching of women…just boorish, childish, prima donna behavior.
    Think that would go well for JW at this point. People have reputations…they EARN them..they’re not just dropped out of the sky. So imagine the player in my drunken scenario is GMC.
    Think there might be a different reaction.
    Think GMC would have been suspended for Arizona?
    It’s time to stop blaming everybody except the MORON who caused all of this and placed his team in jeopardy.
  54. Dre Says:
    Joe likes the idea jameis is safe …. can’t believe you condone what these guys do to women … physical mental or sexual abuse is all the same joe
  55. JimmyJack Says:
    Maybe this has something to do with why the Bucs passed on Hunt? Nobody’s going to draft a guy if they interview him and think he’s a creep.
  56. adam from ny Says:
    interestingly enough there is a shining light to this sad story…jameis and his whole story is further becoming old news now…which is a good thing…time to move forward, now that it’s all settled in court too…and this kareem hunt situation is now at the forefront of bad nfl news…and of course there will be more shenannies to come from other players wilding out too, as time moves forward
  57. cw_buc_crazy Says:
    bring Kareem Hunt here JL, JW lied to this organization and we are going to pay him $20milion, since the character is not a problem for Bucs, at least we can use football skills. Bring Hunt, he is a good football player…
  58. Wesley Says:
    What Jameis “allegedly” did was not even in the same ballpark as to what Hunt actually did.
  59. westernbuc Says:
    Yeah, that’s why I’m done with Jameis. He’s one bad choice away from being banned. NFL doesn’t mess around with this stuff anymore.
    And then to come back and throw a bunch of interceptions, likely costing this coaching staff their jobs.
    Time to find a new QB
  60. cw_buc_crazy Says:
    the main reason Hunt was let go, was LYING to the organization about the event. JW did exactly the same thing, he told the front office: “he did not do it”. The difference between Hunt and JW is only this: for JW was not the FIRST time. He lied before, and he is going to do it again. Yeah, is not the same ballpark…..
  61. cw_buc_crazy Says:
    Jason Licht, bring Hunt to Tampa. We need good players, forget the character…
  62. Max Says:
    Honestly the scuffle was very tame, surprised the chiefs cut him. I would sign the dude.
  63. tnew Says:
    yes… the Chiefs are such a classy organization… Thats why they drafted Tyreek Hill. the only difference is the optics.. and perceived value of player.
  64. Grafikdetail Says:
    For what it worth… He didn’t push her down purposely… he ran out the room & into his friend and the force from that knocked his friend and the girls down
  65. BrooklynBucsFan Says:
    I’m pretty sure that Hunt was put on the exempt list, which means no one can sign him. At least that’s what I read earlier today.
  66. Shane Says:
    Not sure why you think he lied. I’ve been drunk enough before not to remember things. And that doesn’t even mean he did anything.
