DJax A Long-term Injury?

December 1st, 2018

Shelved for how long?

Following practice Friday, Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching, yams-eating coach Dirk Koetter sure didn’t act like DeSean Jackson’s thumb is a major injury.

But Koetter wasn’t nearly as confident a handful of hours later.

The star wide receiver is out for Sunday’s game against the Stinking Panthers but in the afternoon Koetter gave no hint that Jackson’s injury could keep him off the field for multiple games.

Shoot, Koetter even talked about how he set up a threesome between him and Jackson and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to review tape and try to brainstorm why the two cannot get on the same page when it comes to completing passes.

For Koetter to take that step out of his very busy day doesn’t sound like an act of a coach who thinks Jackson wouldn’t be playing for a while. But Friday night in his weekly appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Koetter admitted he doesn’t know when Jackson will next be on the field for the Bucs. His tone of voice didn’t sound very reassuring.

Koetter appeared on “Late Hits” with co-hosts Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez when Brandt hit him with a question about Jackson.

Gil Brandt: How optimistic are you that he can return to play at some point soon?

Dirk Koetter: Well, I’m not sure about that, Gil. You know, DeSean has a thumb injury and I’m not sure about when he will be able to return. … You take DeSean out of the lineup and — his speed is always going to bring a threat that a defense has to honor. But, we played without DeSean at the end of last year for a few games and we played some of our best football of the year.

It raised an eyebrow with Joe when, after practice Friday, the Bucs announced they promoted wide receiver Bobo Wilson from the practice squad.

Joe thought that was a bit odd in that if Jackson was only going to miss Sunday’s game, why the need to promote Wilson unless it was a special teams situation?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Joe’s a smart-aleck and can’t pass up a fat fastball coming down Central Avenue: Maybe Wilson will return punts?

I don’t buy for a second that he has an injury. His “second opinion” was him paying a doctor to write some BS because team doctors knew he was fine.
Whatever, glad he isn’t playing but I wish we weren’t protecting MeJax and would call this what it is….A quitter.

  2. Dapostman Says:

Mesean need to be put on IR.

    #IrrelevantReceiver

  3. Petty Officer Buc Says:

MeSean Jackson. Another team will pay him for sure, but it won’t be the 11 million he could have made with the Bucs if he didn’t act like a cancerous A-hole.

Newsflash MeSean: After the first few games, Fitz couldn’t connect with you either. Have you ever asked your fellow WR’s how come they can connect with JW? Is it possible that maybe it’s YOU that should adjust your game vs Jameis having to adjust his game? You could have gotten that third year and maybe even another double digit WR contract with the Bucs but instead word will get out how you are a bad teammate. It doesn’t look good how Winston has Chemistry with everyone else but you and the locker room issues you bring if the season isn’t playing out perfectly. Never have I seen such a sore winner until the 49ers game.

  4. adam from ny Says:

    let’s be real…they’re easing him outta here…

jpp blew off half a hand and plays with a club every week…djax can’t play because of a hang nail???

at least suit him up to cause match up issues and make them have to prepare…geez…

this is total bucs bs…this is why this team is so bad…thy handle things so oddly – and consistently!

chiefs have an issue and they deal with kareem hunt immediately…

we let this philadelphia eagle run our team — sad sad sad

  5. lambchop Says:

Umm, in other news….Kareem Hunt is available. I’m just sayin….maybe he can get a 2nd shot at redemption for his dumb ass assault. Not sure how his incident will screw up his career, but my bet is some team is gonna pick him up when the dust settles.

  6. Joe Says:

    lampchop:

    Currently Kareem Hunt is suspended.

  7. adam from ny Says:

djax is a faker man…bobo should snuff him in the locker room like the wild man he is, and say:

“yeah i took ya roster spot boyeee”

  8. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Hunt will clear wavers like Foster should have.

Even if we signed him, he can’t play. Maybe not even next year. We don’t need that PR backlash for a player that may or may not see the field in the next year.

  9. Bobby C Says:

Someone in the front office needs to make a decision and pick Kareem hunt off waivers, sit him and start fresh next year with him. This will all go away with time, let the league sort all the mess out, you have a top 5 back to start the year and you didn’t mortgage your future to get him.

  10. lambchop Says:

I understand he’s suspended. What I meant by saying he’s available is that he was released by the Chiefs.

I’m just wondering if it’s worth exploring when he clears waivers and clears GoodHELL’s private persecution.

  11. unbelievable Says:

That sounds like the worst threesome ever…

    :: rimshot ::

I’ll be here all night folks.

  12. westernbuc Says:

He’s not suspended, yet. He’s on the commissioner exempt list.

Either way, we’re good. He’s human garbage and we don’t need that on this roster.

  13. Jean Lafitte Says:

    puppets lol

  14. Not there yet Says:

Let me get this right, Winston grabs a crotch and they pull out the pitch forks but hunt can get caught on video in a clear assault charge but claim him off waivers? It’s all about character until it ain’t and we’re in season. Oddest fan base in the nfl

  15. John Says:

Claim Kareem hunt. Chick hit him first. Let’s hold onto him and see how it plays out. If he missed half a season maybe we can trade him for something afterwards or just keep him.

  16. richbucsfan Says:

sounds like the meeting between Koetter, Jackson, and #3 didn’t go so well.

  17. Dooshlarue Says:

    Threesomes rarely work out Joe.
Somebody’s feelings usually end up getting hurt.

  18. Buc believer Says:

Yeah he has had a long term injury since he has been here… a pain in the arse and a headache!

  19. lambchop Says:

    @Not there yet,

Big difference in talent between Kareem Hunt and Winston. Winston isn’t even the best QB in his division, so let’s not even rank him against the league. Kareem Hunt is clearly a top 5 back in the entire league. And unfortunately, talent level means something when it comes to serving a few games suspended and then coming back and helping a team.

Let him get his punishment. Personally, he is scum but we have a glaring need at RB for someone with his talent. He’s not at the stage of his career where Ray Rice was, so someone will pick him up as he’s young and talented. He needs to go for mandatory counseling and be on a 1 strike and you’re out deal. He can be had cheap without a huge investment. He will get a chance at redemption somewhere.

  20. BUC IT Says:

the craziest thing is that the cleveland police department didn’t think it was serious enough to file charges on hunt and they saw the video…..

  21. El_Buc941 Says:

@Joe @Lambchop I for one haven’t read anywhere that he is suspended. I’m pretty sure he is but I think, and am in favor of, picking him up ASAP. He’s young, he made a mistake in which we honestly don’t know if he was under the influence of alcohol, which could be a possibility, which of course doesn’t exist his actions in a situation which clearly seems he was bring taunted. The kid had more than enough talent, I say we take a gamble on him no matter who says what. Look at Cincinnati’s running back.. He was in the same position and who really even remembers are better yet talks about it these days. Plus I guarantee the team that picks him up could have leverage in hoe much they pay him because of his status and that he would have to prove it won’t make the team regret their decision in the future in case it happens again.

  22. John Says:

Kareem hunt is the modern day kordell Stewart. He can run, receive and kick. We need this kind of versatility.

  23. buccfan305 Says:

We should definitely try and bring in Kareem Hunt!!

  24. Bird Says:

Kareem hunt ain’t gonna be playing football any time soon people

  25. Bird Says:

And this won’t get posted cause I am blocked. Scarred joes

But isn’t it funny how people loved D-Jax after the 1st few games when we were hitting him on deep ball.

And then he made comments about going with fitz over Jameis (the hot hand) and the joes began smear campaign. And this is one reason you are blocked. Making things up about Joe. Remainder of your comment was deleted. Here’s a link to Joe’s story from mid-October. (one like it you didn’t read anywhere else) Enjoy! https://www.joebucsfan.com/2018/10/buccaneers-blog-desean-jackson-legacy-ten-thousand-yards/ –Joe

  27. JIMMY T Says:

U idiots want Jameis run out of TOWN yet u all would claim Kareem Hunt? U can find running backs without claiming a bad actor! U guys would have made a case to claim Lawrence Phillips back in the day!

  28. bucanation Says:

I cant stand to hear Dirt talk and make decisions for this team and it seems like this coaching doesn’t get it until its to late and its to late for me .

  29. bucanation Says:

I honestly do not see the Glazers letting these bunch of morons picking up anything but stadium trash

  30. Cobraboy Says:

Hunt will be Ray Riced thanks to the #MeToo movement.

  31. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Djax needs the deep ball, we can’t make the playoffs if Jamies can’t complete the pass

  34. jjbucfan Says:

JIMMY- Kareem Hunt didn’t go to FSU and stomp the Gators and the U. That is why they are okay with him but not Winston. Pansies can’t understand that they guy who crushed you is now “your guy”. I would have loved Taven Bryant on the Bucs, he terrorized my Noles. Once you leave your college and are a Buc- you are “my guy”, unless you are a whiny quitter that doesn’t put your team first…then you can go.

  35. Bird Says:

    Just curious ?

So you didn’t say “please please please” put him on IR a few days ago ?
I can pull up that article if need be
Blocked because you can’t handle he truth lol 😂
Absolutely. It makes sense. Joe believes it’s in the best interest of the team. –Joe

how come i’m not allowed to post my opinions joe? have i been blocked, and for what?

  37. Bird Says:

Koetter putting him on bench may have been best thing for Jameis

You could tell he made a conscious effort to not turn ball over last game. Let’s we how he plays rest of year. Especially the next 2 interesting Division games – Carolina and saints

    I will be at both

  38. K_bassuka Says:

Why in hell it seems Koetter always wants to please MeJax? He must have some good stuff on Koetter, cause in Koetter eyes he does no wrong. I can’t wait for this excuse of a HC and his lover boy to get the boot next year.

  39. csidedave Says:

Jameis tried to reach out to DJax several times to offer his support but just hasn’t been able to connect with him yet.

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“…we played without DeSean at the end of last year for a few games and we played some of our best football of the year”

There. That says it all. Jackson is a problem.

I have to wonder, though, if Jackson is making this injury seem more serious than it really is. Think about it…if he goes on IR, it will be harder for the Bucs to find a trade partner for him.

If Jackson were traded, he might go to a worse team. But if they cannot find a trade partner, they’ll probably have to cut him. Then he picks where he goes.

Whatever the case, I’m just happy he has played his last game for the Bucs.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Bird Says
“Koetter putting him on bench may have been best thing for Jameis ”

    Agreed.

  44. TOM Says:

I hope the Bucs can trade Jackson & at least get somrthing for him.

  45. Ndog Says:

Should have traded him when they could have.
