Make The Change Permanent

Second-year receiver Chris Godwin has proven all season that he’s at least the real deal as a No. 2 wide receiver.

Given a shot to start today for thumb-challenged DeSean Jackson, Godwin stepped up just like just about everyone paying attention thought he would. He finished with five receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown, and he flashed his speed game on a 48-yard catch-and-run.

It’s time to give the 22-year-old the job full-time. He’s earned it (49 catches for 676 yards) and he’s at least as valuable as Jackson when you consider Jackson and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, have poor chemistry.

Nobody knows whether Jackson will return from injury this season. Joe already has called for him to placed on injured reserve.

If he does come back, Dirk Koetter needs to be fearless and advise Jackson that his role has changed. Hey, Koetter named the guy captain after he asked to be traded, so surely Koetter is confident Jackson is a team-first guy that could handle a demotion.

Plenty of opportunities would remain for Jackson, and he can always return punts, if he feels like it.

    Replace DJAX permanently

  2. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Agreed, this team is so dangerous without him. Addition by subtraction.

  3. ShutTheBucUp Says:

    Koetter doesn’t have the balls

  4. Bucsfan951 Says:

    I freaking love this kid!

  5. orlbucfan Says:

    I have gone nuts since this guy got drafted. He is ungodly Godwin. Bucs will win all their final games. I am freaking cos this offense is blossoming. Aints won’t know what hits them next week. Har-har-har!

  6. Not there yet Says:

    Agreed Koetter doesn’t have the balls

  7. Easy Says:

    Aside from the Pitts game Godwin has been as good as any receiver as far as catch completion. He should be starting over D Jax

  8. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Ask all the fans at Penn State………they absolutely LOVED this kid……..he has start from now on.

  9. Zwak Says:

    Djax won’t be here next year.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

    Uniforms still suck. Who does the fashion crap any more, Nike?

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Godwin is a solid stud……..

  12. Waterboy Says:

    I agree. Let MeSean stay wherever is today for the remainder of the season.

  13. mixxx31 Says:

    I’m good with it.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    godwin is the clear number 2. i am a djax guy but like so many free agents and draft picks, it simply just does not work out in Tampa. the organization has no leadership simple as that…

  15. Slugglife Says:

    Maybe we have 2 #1 receivers. With a little white guy who’s fast as F as our #2. Good problem to have.

  16. Pete Mitchell Says:

    We are always in such a hurry to get rid of good football players…
    How about the coach manages DJax’s diva personality to get the beat out of his whole team.

  17. Slugglife Says:

    ORL Bucs fan- yup. Have you ever seen the NIKE outlets here? Everything looks like dog sht, and goes to our Brazilian visitors.

  18. Dave Says:

    DJax is great , And I understand his frustration with Winston not being able to get him a deep ball, but every receiver or running back in the NFL who is bitching and whining because they didn’t get the ball enough after their team wins, can take a hike. Don’t need them. There is a lot of talent out there, everyone is replaceable and everyone can be replaced by someone who puts the team first.

  19. Kansas95Buc Says:

    I third the motion the Kotter dont have the balls to make the call

  20. JimmyJack Says:

    It’s Dirk’s call. Let him prove his worth and make the right decision. He may have screwed it all up already but a good HC would fix it.

  21. Slugglife Says:

    If the Packers were in the hunt, then the Bucs are now getting their Elvis pelvis warmed up.

    Great game by JW. I’ve been a critic. But he threw the ball great today. Time for our win streak.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

    Bucs run a ton of three WR sets so I don’t think it really matters if he’s “starting” or not. Anywho someone who made a big play today I think will be a big player next year, and that is Bobo. Assuming he’s not a completely pain in the rear still behind the scenes, I think he’ll be playing that role of Hump next year as Hump will probably get big money to be someone’s #2… and good luck with that.

  23. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    No one questions DJAX talent

    but he doesn’t give 110% on the field trying to fight for possessions

    then he blasts his issues about everything on Social Media

    sorry, he’s not a team player

  24. Slugglife Says:

    Oh yeah! I get the day off with pay again tomorrow!

    How bout y’all?

  25. Fire Light Says:

    DJax has the rest of the season off paid too.

  26. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    DJAX is a one trick pony……..and that’s speed and explosiveness when he’s not touched

    but he’s not Chris Godwin who fights for the ball and every single yard…..

    …..DJAX is too much of princess to fight for any balls

  27. Petty Officer Buc Says:

    Dirk is scared of D-Jax. Never have I seen a Diva get fluffed so much to keep pleasing him. The fluffing would be okay if he was producing but outside of a few special games he hasn’t been connecting with Fitz or JW. Move on from this cancer and reinvest the 11 Million next year into a CB or RG.

  28. Slugglife Says:

    BucAnthem- every adult I know handles their issues on social media. Just kidding. Adults, real adults, don’t look for sympathetic help using dummies who ain’t in house.

    Social media sucks and is the avenue for weak minded MFERS. Remember that men!

  29. Slugglife Says:

    Princess? Go wash your hands.

  30. Nprbuc Says:

    Godwin has more than earned the right to start over Djax, the whiner. He gives himself up on every ball thrown in his area. He is not afraid to leave his feet if needed and fight for the ball. Djax? Not so much. He is also a class act. One of the many reasons he was loved at Penn State. Let him run wild and let Djax run home.

  31. Slugglife Says:

    Anybody give Adams his well deserved love yet?

    Guy singlehandedly shut Scam down.

  32. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL

    Sorry,

    I’m washing my hands right now homie

  33. bucfan999 Says:

    Should have traded him when they had the chance earlier this year, at least we could have recouped a draft pick. Now it looks like they will have to cut him which gains us nothing. But he does need to GO.

  34. Slugglife Says:

    All good. If he’s back in the lineup and gets two long balls it’ll be all good.

    We beat thePanthers

  35. Batman Wood Says:

    Chris Godwin, Chris Carter part deux.

  36. Slugglife Says:

    I had chicken wings and ranch all over my hands! And I’m smashed dancing on the picnic table!

    But my hands are clean. Now.

  37. Wausa Says:

    I agree Joe

    Godwin looks very good and appears to be a good teammate.

    DJax gives effort only when he feels like it.

  38. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    ah ah haha ha ha ha

    I had buffalo wings with ranch earlier too!!!!!!!!

  39. Slugglife Says:

    Standard recipe for 1:00 games.

  40. El_Buc941 Says:

    Let trade DJax to Dallas for DE Lawrence!player for player!we need another DE to throw in the rotation and they need a WR(COOPER AINT SQUAT!)

  41. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

    Godwin is the truth, Mesean is a chump. Case closed. Go Bucs !!!

  42. Bucsfan951 Says:

    Hey 941! Can I have what ever you’re smoking? I thought my stuff was good but apparently you have better stuff.

  43. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    There is a better chance of snow in Tampa tonight than DJax being on this roster next year.

  44. ATrain Says:

    Man Joe I wish you would cheer for all the players the same

    By the way MCCOYs name wasn’t called once today

  45. Rod Munch Says:

    D-Jax was never coming back next year – they knew that when they signed the deal, it was always a way to have an extra year in case he was truly special that you could flip him to a team for a pick, or if he was clicking you keep him around.

    Anyways D-Jax being out means Hump is one injury away from starting… that would be a disaster, so don’t be so quick to hope D-Jax is out.

  46. MadMax Says:

    Yes! Agreed! Godwin is a Godsend!

    Also….KEEP PLAYING SAFETY ANDREW ADAMS!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. Dave Says:

    Wow. For everyone out there who is negative …..
    IT COULD BE WORSE!!!

    I just flipped on the raiders KC game
    And…

    I saw Clinton McDonald in motion from the tight ends spot to leave block for Doug Martin. It got stuff.
    (Granted Martin scores a couple plays later, but still..)
    🤣😂

  48. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Rod

    What do you have against Hump? He dropped ONE ball today…he caught many more and unlike DJAX he doesn’t go down at just the sight of impending contact.

    Hump reminds me of Edelman. You look at them and you do not expect them to be stars…but then they go out and put up star like numbers.

    I agree with Anthem that DJAX is pretty much a one trick poney while Godwin is a complete football players…he’s physical…blocks…has good hands and a giant heart.

    As soon as the Buc management gets their heads out of their rectums and changes back to decent uniforms #12 will be my next jersey.

  49. Howard Cosell Says:

    Elevate Godwin and trade Jackson.

    Desean Jackson is still a great player he just hasn’t developed chemistry w WInston. On the other hand, Evans, Godwin, Hump and Brate all have pretty good chemistry w Winston.
    Jackson was late to the party. Winstons mind may be already full. You can only memorize the tendencies of so many receivers before you hit overload. It’s not a slight on Jackson. For whatever reason he and Winston don’t click so they should both move on. Keeping him here will just breed animosity

  50. Ndog Says:

    File this under Duh!!!

  51. rrsrq Says:

    If, and I do mean a really big if. The Bucs are still mathematically alive for the playoffs. You do not want to go into playoffs with DJax if he can play on IR. You want all your weapons.

  52. gambelero Says:

    He went all out to break up what looked like on a sure interception on Bad-Jameis only play of the game. No way Jackson even tries to break up that throw.

  53. Howard Cosell Says:

    @gambelero
    Wow great point and very true

  54. Kevin Says:

    Everyone loves Godwin.

  55. Tbbucs3 Says:

    All D jacks does is take away targets from Godwin. Me jacks can be a role player at best when he returns

  56. GoBuxFla Says:

    Gotta agree. Kid has got game. And thank GAWD we spanked the kitties. I can not stand the Panters.

  57. bkgrime Says:

    I love me some Chris Godwin

  58. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    D Jax should never play another down as a Buc. Godwin is too talented to not be starting and Hump fits the slot role perfectly. I am also really excited to see Watson get out there. I think he was a great pick in the draft and hopefully he can get some reps these last few games. We have plenty of talent without DJax and his poor attitude and not running hard on routes.

  59. BucEmUp Says:

    djax will take the spot back Koetter is spineless.

    Godwin is the better receiver hands down

  60. BucEmUp Says:

    Funny the defense did a lot better without Mike Smith and actually blitzing today

  61. HeavyE Says:

    Wow, A couple of weeks ago, everyone was loving#11, and now you want him replaced, what a fan base! but it is still Jameis’s fault. You know who you are Clowns…..LMAO! Go BUCS!!!!

  62. Cobraboy Says:

    Godwin is the long-term future, but for now I’d rather have Jackson on the field than Watson or Wilson, especially is a 4-WR spread formation.

    I don’t agree with either/or. I like “both.”

  63. JIMMY T Says:

    Hey El BUC 941
    Um I hate to break it to u but there is no way Dallas would trade Lawrence for DJAX!
    Can I please have what u r SMOKING?

  64. Wesley Says:

    All Djax does is put unnecessary pressure on Jameis.

  65. Howard Cosell Says:

    @Wesley
    Exactly. These guys need to relax and focus not stress over drama

  66. Rod Munch Says:

    stpetebucsfan – Well Hump lost us the game in Buffalo last year, that literally changed the entire season, so that’s one thing I have against him. Also we saw him as a starting WR already and he was awful, so that’s another thing I have against him.

    In this offense he’s not a starting WR – and yet people think he is. Instead he’s a fantastic 4th WR and a good 3rd WR, but when he plays against starting corners he’s completely taken out of games. He simply doesn’t have the size and speed to be a starting WR – which again we know because we’ve literally seen him as a starting WR and he was literally awful and couldn’t get open. But as a #4 WR, he’s great, he’s playing against safeties or LBs and his quickness gets him open. Anywho someone will pay him big money thinking he can be dropped into an offense and be a starter and he’ll look just like he has when he’s been a starter here, he won’t get open and will drag down the entire team.

    For the Bucs the issue is money. Hump will get #2 money or top #3 money, and he’s just not that. If the Bucs could keep him on an affordable deal then obviously they should do so – as I said he’s a excellent #4 WR, but he’ll simply get too much money to keep around, and if the Bucs do give up top #3 money then he’s one injury away from being forced to start, at which point the entire offense comes to a halt.

    Also I think highly of Bobo, and no, I’m not a FSU fan, outside of watching Winston on tape I never pay attention to FSU, but Bobo has looked very good when given a chance, is around the same size, is faster (but not as quick) and has about the same hands as Hump. I think he can slot into that #4 ultra productive role perfectly, and he’s cheap, meaning the team can spend money on corners and safeties, which is a must if they’re to win.

  67. uckinator Says:

    Hump is money. Keep him in the slot and be amazed !

  68. Bobby Says:

    Anyone me who watched Chris Godwins college tape knew this guy was going to be elite. Fantastic draft pick. Should have been a first round pick. Incredible draft by Licht to get Godwin and Howard. Vea is coming on too. Godwin though….that kid is special.

  69. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    ATrain Says:
    “MCCOYs name wasn’t called once today”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Sorry @ATrain, but that is not correct. McCoy’s pressure directly influenced at least 3 incompletes from Cam and literally caused one of the interceptions. — Not to mention Gerald is the one that pulled this DL together emotionally to the way they are playing now for one another. I know a lot of people on this site don’t like him, but you have to give him his due when it is deserved.
  70. bucsnole Says:
    A smart coach might see how DJ could run the defense back while covering him and use him as a decoy on occasion. . . or to hit some slants maybe.
  71. Brandon Says:
    I love stats and one stat I would love to see is Godwin getting 324 yards in the last four games. That would be 81 yards per game and he would reach 1000 yards. I’ve always called Godwin a poor man’s Julio Jones as well as Mike Evans a poor man’s Calvin Johnson…. with 324 yards and some big seasons some day people will be calling up and coming receivers poor man’s Godwin and Evans.
  72. charles Stevens Says:
    Bobo Wilson showed some speed on the deep ball.He is also not a malcontent.Let him play and stretch the field instead of me jackson.
