In Charge

December 30th, 2018

Job status revealed?

If anyone wants an idea of the job status of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, one only needs to read the last sentence from the statement by Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer announcing the dismissal of former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter.

“Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately and will be conducted by general manager Jason Licht,” Glazer said.

So if the Bucs were going to run off Licht at the same time as Koetter for a full housecleaning, Joe doubts very much Team Glazer would have Licht involved in any way in selecting Koetter’s replacement.

But Licht is running the show in the effort to fill Koetter’s now empty office chair.

That doesn’t sound like a guy who is about to get run in Joe’s eyes.

    Boooooooooooo Jason Licht

    Booooooooooo

  2. DBS Says:

    So what did you expext from the 3 stooges?

  3. Bucsfan951 Says:

    With Licht in charge, I expect the same results we have been getting the last 4 years. I’m not drinking the koolaid this time! When I see results, I’ll start believing.

  4. Wright Says:

    Perfectly okay with this! Folks have many uniformed takes/expectations from a GM. And no, it doesn’t simply revolve around W and Ls. Gain some perspective folks. We might finally have a healthy GM HC relationship in this organization….

  5. SOEbuc Says:

    Told people Licht was staying. McCarthy, Richard, L.Riley, Fangio, Rivera.

  6. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

    With a winning/losing percentage of .3375 over 5 years…Licht is retained. Let that sink in for a moment. I thought the Bros. Glazer were scared of him…perhaps I was right.

  7. Mike in MO Says:

    If Jason Gump picks the next HC the way he picks second round draft picks we’re doomed. I have no confidence in him.

  8. Wesley Says:

    Jason Licht has no business being a g.m.!

  9. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

    Bruce Arians!

  10. Troy Says:

    What’s the definition of insanity again?

  11. Darin Says:

    That tells me the Glazers picked Dirk. Cmon Licht. I trust you more than the Glazers. Get it

  12. Zwak Says:

    Very smart move this means Monken will be staying.

  13. sj_bucsfan Says:

    Sad to see that someone responsible for some of the most boneheaded personnel decisions still has a Job! Fear not Tampa things will never change until the Glaziers offically relieve themselves from ANY football decisions… I am sooooo happy I cancelled my season tickets this year! Lets GO Lightning!!!⚡⚡⚡⚡

  14. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    UGH!

  15. EA Says:

    Well Jason Licht did hire Koetter If not mistaken but he also tried to convince him to be a head coach, articles at that time were saying that Koetter was comfortable just being an OC, Koetter did get some looks from other teams like Miami. Well that in my opinion is not a good hire by Licht, panicking that you may lose Koetter and forcing things just to have continuity with Winston.
    I’m not really sold on him having a long leash from the Glazers, his draft and free agency were not great either. Can’t find a kicker to save their lives and the second round busts have been a tradition at one buc place.

  16. LutzBuczFan Says:

    Great, the best DE Licht drafted is Noah Spence. The best kicker he drafted is Aguayo. The defense and special teams killed Koetter….

  17. Krojen Says:

    Guess we’re gonna draft more weapons for Winston soon. Probably a TE in the 1st.

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

    Coaches took the fall for Licht’s failures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Rayjay1122 Says:

    I am officially done with this organization until the Blazer Buffoons sell the team. Take care everyone. What suckers these fools are. SMFH

  20. tgregs Says:

    Duble Ugh He drafted America’s Ass Clown

  21. Krojen Says:

    Can we trade the Bucs for a WNBA team. I’m serious, that league is so much fun, especially compared to this organization.

  22. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Can’t wait for the XFL team. I will switch to them.

  23. Jeff Says:

    Can we class action the Glazers into selling this team

  24. rrsrq Says:

    Glazers are not gonna pay both JL and DK to sit out for a year or two

  25. basementbucs Says:

    How did Jason Gump even get this job to start with….

  26. ElioT Says:

    Bruce Arians my A**!!

    Unless the Bucs have an air conditioned Pope-mobile that he can drive around the sidelines on game day, the dude will have a heart attack in this heat compounded by a stroke from trying to coach some of this immense “talent” that his buddy #lichtmyb*lls has brought in over five f**king years.

    I don’t judge the GM on the record so much as the history of drafting rookies and signing free agents.

    I CHALLENGE ANYONE HERE to look through his draft history and FA acquisitions and tell me he’s a good GM and deserves the faith of the crack smoking Glaziers to find the next head coach.

  27. Buc believer Says:

    So the guy missing a chromosome get to stay in charge!!! GREAT!!!

  28. Jerry Jones Says:

    Arians was a hell of a coach but, was he not a ‘Snickers’ away from a heart attack? Or he was all crazy stressed out and having panic attacks and sh!t?

  29. ElioT Says:

    You are correct Buc believer

  30. JabooBuc Says:

    My guess is they think they are very close and should be. Get a Coach with some experience and focus on defense. Draft a stud CB, keep Kwon and Gerald (I know he’s probably not worth the salary but we have bigger issues), remainder of draft on OL and maybe a FA Safety and RB.

    Assuming Beckwith and VH3 come back healthy you should have a solid defense if you have someone that knows what they are doing leading that unit.

  31. DBS Says:

    Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa’s ONLY Team! Go Bolts!

  32. ElioT Says:

    Glaziers:
    “So Jason, how’s things looking for this coming season, are we going to burn some rubber and eat some dust? We want to see this team butter some biscuits this year for sure, you’ll do that right?”

    Licht:
    “Duh, yes boss”

  33. Bob in Valrico Says:

    Never been down on the Glazers because they were head and shoulder better than Culverhouse. But keeping Licht is a monumentally stupid idea.

  34. ElioT Says:

    JabooBuc:

    How long have you been a Bucs fan? Have you not seen enough of this sh*t to ever be optimistic again?

    You want to keep the “leader” of this horrific defense (who never makes any impact plays or inspires his teammates) around and pay him $13 million dollars to do what?

    Kendall Beckwith coming back from a shattered ankle (after a torn up knee at LSU) and Vernon f**king Hargreaves are going to make this defense solid?

    Come on.

  35. Upthegut Says:

    If Licht is staying I wonder how many of the bad contracts he passed out
    (Goldston, Brate, Curry,Allen,Anger, VH3, Benenoch,D.Smith, R. Smith, Dotson,Grimes,Spence) he has the stones to release.
    If he fails to cut the cord with these overpaid and underwhelming roster space fillers he selected, he should be forced to spend the remainder of his life in a padded cell compelled to watch an endless loop of Buc’s games played during his tenure.,

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

    I’m also glad I dumped my tickets and switched to the Lightning. The Bucs were a joke, now still are a joke, and will continue to be a joke with Licht running things.

  37. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    I hate Jason Licht

    He fake smiles and he laughs while he single handedly destroys this organization

  38. Gruden4President Says:

    Vita Vea coming on during the 2nd half of the season saved Lichts job. That and the fact that with no run game and oline this offense is still #2 in the league. Make no doubt about it we are a talented team. We were just poorly coached on alot of levels. Im one pf Lichts biggest critics but you cant deny theres alot of talent in that locker room. I for one am excited for next year. Its either gonna be Mcarthy or one of the Harbaugh brothers and they are gonna put all of this talent together. Go Bucs

  39. PhillyBuc Says:

    Hope new coach send GMC (and his batman dolls) packing. Most overrated player on the roster

  40. BrianBucs Says:

    Go to Wiki and look up Licht’s draft and free agency record and list. It will make you puke

  41. Mike10 Says:

    Boo Licht sucks. Get ready to be in this same position again in 2 years

  42. Dave Says:

    I am done.
    I know I am in the minority here, but personally I think Dirk should have stayed, I think Jasonicht is damn good, and I think they should stick with Jameis next year and spend the offseason getting O and D linemen, another RB, and DBs.

    Instead, They chose to start over again. They have started over every few years ever since the Super Bowl win. They are guaranteeing themselves to be perpetual losers.

    NFL organizations win with stability. Not by changing coaches and quarterbacks every three years. Jason and Dirk and Jameis are good and getting better.

    I would much rather see what they do in the next two years with the core group they have than to start over again and guarantee sitting in the basement.
    So adios.
    I am done.
    I’m not going to anymore games, probably will barely watch. Good luck.

  43. Mike10 Says:

    So disappointed they’re having Licht head this search. We’re going to be in the same position in 2 years

  44. Jeffbuc Says:

    I’m done spending any money on the bucs I will not go to another game. Or buy anymore shirts or hats. Trading my license plate in for a lightning one. You can’t justify keeping Licht. You need to excite a fan base. Keeping a gm whose record in 5 years is worse than the guy the fired that he replaced. How can you justify that. Dominick had a better record yet he is fired but you say this guy with a worse record is worth keeping. I will still watch the games but not another dime. Until they start putting a competitive team on the field. And I’m sure many of fans feel this same way. He hired the coach that just got fired. Yet you trust him to hire are next coach. Unreal this team is ran like pee wee football.

  45. AleteredEgo Says:

    What Dave said….

  46. D-Rome Says:

    What a disgrace! Licht is a huge reason as to why the Bucs have been horrible over the past five years.

  47. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

    Follow the Licht !!!!! Let’s see some real coaching and preparation!!!

  48. Defense Rules Says:

    The Glazer Boyz are absolutely the most clueless owners in the NFL. Total of 12 years since Daddy Malcolm’s strokes with the Three Mouseketeers in charge and we have yet to even sniff a playoff spot. Two GMs & soon-to-be five HCs later, Bucs are in an even worse mess than we were in 2006 when we went 4-12 under Gruden (at least he rebounded with two 9-7 seasons before the Clueless Trio sent him packing).

    Keep asking myself, “What quality HC will sign on to fix this mess while the ARCHITECT of the mess is still in charge?” I agree D-Rome … “What a disgrace!”

  49. Tbbucs3 Says:

    See ya Dave. Doors that way.

  50. JabooBuc Says:

    ElioT: I have been a Bucs fan since ‘76 so trying to show optimism from year to year has been a way of life. As I hinted, not a huge fan of McCoy but replacing him would not be my biggest priority unless I can get a hefty bounty for him via trade.

    As for Beckwith and VH3, they are not cornerstones but are upgrades in the talent on this team. As I said, if you draft a stud corner then VH3 is good depth and a nice option at nickel. Beckwith was damn good as a rookie. He could have played this year but why risk it with the season in the bag. He, combined with Kwon and David are a pretty decent LB crew. Add a Safety possibly or keep Adams and Evans and Whitehead and you have a decent secondary.

    Biggest problem is the OL. Right side needs complete overhaul and they need to make a decision on Smith. I’m not a fan so I’d vote for replacement but this is where I would concentrate my draft and FA signings. Also need a RB assuming RoJo is a complete bust.

    Point being, talent wise, this team is not a complete bust.

  51. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

    Interesting from the brass tonight. Fired the coach which I hate they did but hey Koetter had lost it and just didn’t want to fight for this job anymore. I wonder if he will go outside this time or hire within again. I think he should hire within again. Since they are keeping him why not hire an assistant GM to begin that structure change. Let Jason Licht hire another football guy to work underneath him. The Glazers should definitely hire another football guy they know as well to work under them maybe a new president. Licht getting another draft is interesting as well because the guy has been waiting to stockpile on big bodies in the trenches. There’s a few in this draft that Tampa could realistically take to on both sides of the football in the trenches. As far as new coaching hire don’t think twice but keep that staff intact right now in case the Glazer’s don’t get their guy and hire Mark Duffner and let Warhop walk. Keep Monken for whatever dough and let Duff find a DC he trusts. I think the guy who should be on top of our list is Jay Gruden though. Yes I said it Jay Gruden. We have a QB in place for him here one that fits his scheme as well. We also have a nice staff in place here too as well. Another guy would be of course Jimbo Fisher.

  52. Bosch Says:

    You don’t like it? Do something about it! Cancel your season tickets. Don’t go to games. Don’t watch them on TV. Don’t buy licenses NFL merchandise in Buccaneer flavor.

    Or just shut up!

  53. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    SERIOUSLY??? LICHT??? They guy who drafted Roberto Aguayo???? This decision is horrendous. Almost as bad as thinking Winston can bring us to a Super Bowl (which is utterly and ridiculously stupid),

  54. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Im tired and 87 is right Says:
    “Bruce Arians!”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I like it, man. Especially now that we know that Jason Licht is staying. He & Arians have a great working relationship, and Arians would be fantastic for Jameis.
  55. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Rayjay1122 Says:
    “Can’t wait for the XFL team. I will switch to them.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    More power to ya, man.
    I would rather watch grass grow than to watch the XFL.

  56. TOM Says:

    Hey dumb ass Glazers. Great move keeping Licht. Just lost another season ticket holder. GO RAYS!
