Is Dirk Koetter Now Doomed?

December 16th, 2018

Fate secured?

Based on Bucs history since the team was acquired by Team Glazer, it seems as if Bucs coach Dirk Koetter is now doomed.

With the Bucs losing 20-12 today to the Baltimore Crows, a losing record is secured, their eighth losing season in the post-Chucky era. Team Glazer has made four coaching changes since the end of the 2008 season.

The only one coach to survive two consecutive losing seasons was the guy that won the Bucs their Super Bowl.

With the loss today, Koetter has now lost in the last two seasons after winning nine games his first season in 2016.

Without going into great detail what has gone wrong with the team this year, the simple fact is the Bucs will not win more than seven games at best.

Based on history, Koetter will have his access card to One Buc Palace deactivated.

Of course, Team Glazer is predictably unpredictable.

Doomed with Jamyth as his QB….

  2. Easy Says:

Well It’s obvious this team has no quit in them. I’m a Dirk fan and think he deserves another year if Licht gets to stay.

  3. Buc4life7878 Says:

Take Licht and Winston with ya dirk.

  4. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Dirk has reached his peak with Jamies

Which is making him an average first half QB And sorry 2nd half QB

JAMIES IS NOT GETTING any better than that!

  5. Season Is Over Says:

Mr. Magoo is getting everyone fired. I feel sorry for his next coach.

  6. AlteredEgo Says:

Team has heart….headless and armless at QB…

  7. Rod Munch Says:

I don’t know if I’d call getting paid millions of dollars to sit on the beach, doomed, I’d love to be doomed if that is the meaning of the word.

  8. Loyaltotheend Says:

Jameis and this soft d is a coach killer.

New coach needs to clean house with the mentally weak and soft defensive leaders

  9. Thisisagarbageblog Says:

AleteredEgo, use facts and racism to make your point. I challenge you.

  10. Bucfan1988 Says:

Dirk is down in Tampa. Simple as that.

Time to get rid of those that are attached to the losing culture.
Exception is LVD. That dude played possessed today. Just ran out of energy. That’s what happens when you’re on the field for the entire 2nd half, AGAIN after same situation last week.

Trade GMC93. Done w him. As far as Vea goes, the guy had NINE tackles today!!! Crazy stats for a 340 lb DT. He will learn with experience.

Look forward to the coaching & staffing changes for next year. Maybe one day we will get it right 😫😫😫.

  11. JJV Says:

There is a strong feeling that Team Glazer will make all the decisions to right the ship this time. Let’s just have a little patience and trust.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Sickens me how anybody can even ask this question.

Dirk has done nothing for this team except give us stats. This team is not close to competing in this league. Too many problem areas that he has no ability to fix…..see Right side of line…..see 3rd&1….ECT ECT ect

  13. Thisisagarbageblog Says:

Not racism AlteredEgo because you use enough racism.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We knew they were running & still couldn’t stop them.

We looked impotent in the red zone (again)……this has happened to us all year. We are playing scared with too many run plays in the red zone.

  15. Ndog Says:

Please Lord let him be done.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Tampabaybucfan – In fairness to the defense they’re down to starting Joe Dirt at LB, and the Ravens have done this to everyone. I’m all for clearing house, with the exception of Monken, but you have to take talent into the equation. Also it’s not as simple as it was with Mike Shula, in that you knew the Bucs were going straight up the gut, the Ravens used a ton of misdirection and QB options, so they knew it was going to be a run, but didn’t know where, and that’s not easy to stop.

  17. JabooBuc Says:

This game was a worse case scenario for Dirk and the Bucs. Rainy and cold playing against the best defense in the NFL. Needed a good OL and a solid running game in order to stay in this. They’re weakness’s we’re on full display offensively.

Combine that with the fact that their entire LB crew are backups minus David and you’re facing an offense with a truly difficult RPO QB. I actually thought the Bucs played better than I thought they would pregame.

No idea what the answer is with this team. It seems like if you are going to reset you better have a strong idea of who you are bringing in to lead this team going forward. Just firing everyone with no better viable option is just doing the same over and over again.

  18. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF……The play-calling in the redzone was atrocious I agree.

Our run game was good today, no doubt. But to think we are going to cram down the Ravens throat from the 10 yard line is illogical. I have no belief that Dirk knows his players and puts them in position for success.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

    Was Minter hurt?

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

Dirk lost me when he didn’t mandate his players to wear gloves before the game. And cemented it when he didn’t kick a FG to cut the lead to 5 with 1/2 a quarter to play. If the glove don’t fit you ain’t legit.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

And Munch…..Relying on Joe Dirt is an indictment on the coaching. They had ample time to evaluate him.

If the guy isn’t good enough to play in this league it’s the coaching staffs job to find a replacement.

This is another example of our coaching not addressing a problem. Bond is awful too. Also has been on the team for a long time.

  22. Bucs 14 Says:

We know Koetter is done if the Glazers have any sense.

Main question: Is Magoo worth the $20 million, when we could use that to bring in some Defesnsive players?

  23. Selmon's Rib Says:

JJV, when have these Glazers ever made the right decisions to right the ship? Got a pretty big sample size at this point.

Please Lord let him be done.

    Amen!

  25. Bradley Clement Says:

Come on man!! He was doomed when he benched his QB 2x in one year

  26. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – I think that’s more of an indictment on the GM if you want to blame someone – but then again you lose literally 3 MLB’s, what are you supposed to do? Joe Dirt didn’t play terrible today, he’s just not someone that should be starting a game, ever ever ever.

Also I don’t like Joe Dirt, although why he insist that he’s not Joe Dirt is beyond me, he had all that endorsement money sitting there, all the tie in’s with Autotrader ready to go, and he cuts his hair. Ugh. I guess trust fund kids don’t have to worry about endorsement deals.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Munch your right. Licht is most accountable for this.

But don’t over exaggerate the MLB injuries. Beckwidt was injuried before TC. He was not part of the equation when the built our LB core this year.

  28. Sydney Says:

    “Is Dirk Koetter Now Doomed?”

    DUH!!

He was doomed last January when he didn’t fire Mike Smith.

    5-11. Book it.

  29. Whatinthebuchappend Says:

This is by far one of the worst teams the bucs have fielded..ever ! Jay miss better be done in a bucs uni ! This whole staff better be done ! All they ever show is how incompetent they truly are & we all know it ! These friggin brother owners have not been able to figure it out in a decade now & with them getting rich off of TV money I truly think that they do not care…go get bill cower or Derrick Brooks or someone to take over football operations and let’s get this thing right by putting a plan in place with the right players to execute it..I love my bucs but there is no way we all should have to continue watching year after year this hot garbage..I’m getting so sick and tired of you fans always coming up with excuses as to why another season is lost..one of you say jameis is great and d sux , the other says jameis sux and d Is getting better , one of you says it was a dropped pass or missed kick , the other says it was a bad throw or bad play call on 3rd down ! You all fail to realize it does not matter what one play or one quarter of play goes , it is from the top down on everything ! Bad drafts , bad free agents , bad game planning for all games , bad adjustments in games , really bad special teams , really bad keeping of players & coaches when the writing is on the wall that they are over their heads , really bad timing of picking or filling a certain position..I mean pass on hunt , cook , mixon , kamara , Gordon , & the list goes on for who ? Friggin rojo ! What a joke…and that’s just a few at the running back position ! This team will be completely doomed for years to come until we get a guy in here that knows what he is doing and has a plan and knows how to get his players to full fill that plan to a T…hell , even Tony and rich makay put a plan in place for the players to execute & did a pretty darn good job of getting us to the playoffs ! Stuff like that is a proven method….what they have been doing for a decade is not

  30. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Koetter as a HC was doomed way before today. This team flat out stinks and he gets outcoached every week.

  31. bucanation Says:

What sad is you can see the losses coming and this coaching staff just have to take it and next year will be a lot of the same if these 2 clowns are running the show Dirt had me fooled . The only thing we can do as fans is not go to any games I sold my tickets last week for half price ,

  32. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

The season has been over. You just gotta wait 2 more games for it to be over!!! If Koetter is retained your season will be over the first game in 2019!!!!

  33. JimmyJack Says:

That was friggen embarrassing that our defense could not stop Lamar Jackson from running today.

It’s unacceptable to keep allowing the same 1 guy to beat you constantly for 60 full minutes. At some point you have to take it away. It’s because we play scared. We were scared of Lamar’s arm today. It’s just embarrassing.

  34. AJ Says:

I really like Dirk, and would have hoped it could work out for him. But I just done see a path to bringing him back. Maybe if you had a sense he has a plan. But after 3 years you can see there is no plan. Nothing changes with us, same old same old. And if he comes back, nothing changes again. He is happy to have the status quo.

  35. JimmyJack Says:

Reminds me of E.Elliot beating us for 60 full minutes in 2016.

And I understand these are good players that are going to make plays on you. But you cannot just allow them to keep making plays for an entire ball game.

I’m so tired of watching us show no ability to adjust to what’s happening on the field. It’s a hopeless way to play a football game.

  36. down in the dirt Doug Says:

    Dear Santa,
please give us a quality coach and a top gm and one playoff win next year. And please give our hard working players a great christmas!!!!

  37. cw_bucs_crazy Says:

DK and JL are done here. They got the time, they got the draft pick, they got the money, and they are not able to do it. Why keep them for one more year…. finish it. Sooner the better.
…..and the most important, don’t play JW for the rest of the season to avoid injury. We want him out of here or the stadium will be empty. There is no interest not satisfaction looking a QB so distracted. Please OUT!

  38. uckinator Says:

Then again; how about that DE Nassib. What a find off the street ! I believe he’s up to 6 sacks.

  39. Jason Says:

Koetter is gone, but Licht will be retained. That’s my opinion and its worth exactly what you paid for it.

  40. D-Rome Says:

No one needs to be shown the door faster than Jason Licht. Dirk Koetter failed as a head coach but Jason Licht has been here for five years and this is the best he could do. He failed as a GM. Good riddance to both of them.

  41. Mike Johnson Says:

It goes Deeper than Dirk. I mean..Do the Glazers have the ability to make the right selections as GM and HC? I have no faith in these Glazers. Not when it comes to the NFl. We shall see. But..let keep hope alive for next year guys. One never knows….

  42. mark2001 Says:

Is Koetter doomed? In short answer form…yes. The question is…who else?

  43. Troy Says:

There need to be semi trailers at One Buc the day after the season ends. GM, HC, assistants, and numerous players need to pack up their sh1t and get the f*ck out of our house. It’s time for a new culture.

  44. Stevbobucsfan Says:

Mike Johnson I agree with you the Glazers have made a lot of bad choices at HC. They blame Jamis a lot . Jamis has been here 4 years, the bucs have been losing for 8 years and haven’t had a winning coach no more than 1 season with the last 4 coaches

  45. macabee Says:

CBS reports that Bucs coaching search underway. You decide!

  46. Dan Says:

I have zero faith in ownership anymore.

  47. Buc4evr Says:

Sadly Koetter is gone after today. Let’s just hope Jason is also out, his poor drafting and trades have contributed to this mess. The Glazers will be doomed if they let Jason get involved with the search for a new coach.
