Another Second-Half Implosion

December 16th, 2018

“Dirk, it’s a 60-minute game.”

The Bucs have started a new trend, melting down in the second halves of games.

Today, the Bucs scored three points after halftime. Last Sunday, it was a goose egg.

In both games, they came out strong, leading against the Saints and trailing 10-9 today, outplaying Baltimore in the first 30 minutes.

And then came the collapse?

Why? Mental weakness. Poor coaching adjustments. Bad conditioning.

Pick all of the above, if you wish, it really doesn’t matter at this point. It all adds up to a football team that rarely plays a 60-minute game. Those kinds of team lose often and find new head coaches.

Is it January yet?

There are no “Winston Haters” only Bucs Game Watchers.

  2. Cs2 Says:

Let’s make all the excuse and pamper Jameis!

  3. Season Is Over Says:

Just imagine if we had a No. 1 overall pick to lead us to victory. Are the Titans going to the playoffs again?

  4. WeAreLost Says:

Winston is by far the least of the Bucs worries.

  5. Buc4life7878 Says:

Blow the whole team up. God they suck.

  6. Papa Giorgio Says:

    Fire Koetter now!

  7. Buc believer Says:

Why be happy with a top 5 pick??? Licht will probably blow it on a long snapper.

  8. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Joe,

Where was Jamies in second half?!

Where was GMC THE WHOLE GAME?!!!!

Why is Vita Vea a fat slob????

    Correct Answer = Jason Licht

  9. Buc68 Says:

Penalties, Special Teams and awful defense. The usual stuff that cost people there jobs.

  10. Mike Says:

And the Bucs will hire a new coach who will have the same results. Do we see a pattern here. The Yucs are just a bad organization with low expectations.

    Season Ticket Holder since 1995

  11. JimmyJack Says:

I knew we were losing this one when we abbonded the run game in the second quarter………..The first drive of the game is a decent summary.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Ravens made adjustments, the Bucs once again did not.

Has happened every single week for nearly 3 years now.

  13. jim Says:

fire cutter fir koeterr fir kooter fire him pleasssssssssssee now

  14. Tbbucs3 Says:

Amazes me how someone can watch 60 minutes of that football game, see the defense get gashed up and down the field with simple plays and a QB who can’t throw and come to the conclusion that Jameis is the problem.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

Our Glorius Bucs lose to the Cowgirls and Win the last one in Ray Jay sending Ketter off with a winning last game for his coaching in Tampa. The Glazers gotta right this fastly sinking ship next season.

  16. Buc68 Says:

Every great O NFL has RB who is receiving threat. Jones is a bust.

  17. Season Is Over Says:

Why has Winston made Godwin a joke of a receiver?

  18. Tbbucs3 Says:

Some of you were saying all the Bucs needed to do was score 20 points. Nope the Ravens could of scored that last touchdown but took a knee. That would be 27.

  19. Bye bye miss Says:

54 QB rating!!!! Who says jameis isn’t the problem

  20. bucnut2 Says:

Hard to win big games and perform in prime time with a loser QB and that is what we have. Winston have killed one HC(koetter). the only question is how many more will he kill before ownership admist Licht blew it by drafting him #1 overall

  21. JJV Says:

No worries. We have competent owners ready to make the right decisions with a vision to make us winners one day. There is always hope when we have leadership like that.

  22. passthebuc Says:

until you change the culture, no will come here to coach, play or watch. They had as many Bucs fans in Baltimore as in Raymond James Stadium. Hump will probably go, as will anyone with aspirations of success.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs are still a game ahead of the Jags and only a half-game behind the Packers and one game behind the Eagles – who wouldn’t have taken that before the season?

  24. JimmyJack Says:

We simply allowed Lamar Jackson to beat us single handed.

We never made any adjustment to stop him.

We were unprepared for this game and that aspect is 100% on Dirk.

  25. ATrain Says:

Look at what the Bears are doing with their 100 million dollar man

Now look at the Bucs with their 100 million player

  26. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Joe,

How did we go from getting blown out in the first half and doing well in the second half, to doing well in the first half to being neutered in the second half????

  27. Tval Says:

Koetter has to GO!! if you think Winston is the issue you MUST be blind or COMPLETELY biased. I wonder how many here loved Dak every other year? same goes with Wentz. Be careful what you wish for and don’t be subjective morons when looking at stats. Trubisky and Baker have defenses and they SUCK as qbs. The Eagles gave the Browns 5 picks for Wentz and ANYONE hat pays attention knows Baker is average…at BEST!! And I’m a Browns fan

  28. JimmyJack Says:

What a stupid point Munch. We are also 1-2 games behind the Browns.

  29. Tbbucs3 Says:

    No Bucnut

Jason Licht blew it when he put whatever that defense is out in that field.

  30. Tval Says:

Drops. Drops. And more drops. Could Evans give LESS effort?? Rhetorical

  31. Season Is Over Says:

Listen to the losers rationalize losing. Wow. It has been a decade. Year 4 with franchise QB was not supposed to remain in the gutter.

  32. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Turn The Licht’s Out; Kut Loose Koetter. Good try, guys…you’re in over your heads.

  33. FireMikeSmith_orDie Says:

Lamar Jackson is one of the most garbage QB’s to ever suit up in an NFL game. Despite that fact, a LEGITIMATE COACHING STAFF put him in positions to be effective and help his team win.

Koetter’s atrocious staff has done the exact opposite with Winston and the slew of talented receivers. They ran predictable plays, rarely attempted to stretch the defense & keep them honest, and the defense refused to tackle anybody–who is supposed to keep these guys focused?

Case in point, the Ravens first TD was a direct result of a 3rd-and-15 play that converted to a FIRST in large part to the Bucs having 12 men on the field. How do you make that mistake this late in the season???

  34. JJV Says:

Yep, when we get that new coach everything will change. Winning season ahead fans. Keep the faith.

  35. Loyaltotheend Says:

Ravens running a high school offense and Bucs coaches had no answers

  36. bucnut2 Says:

guys- It’s NOT Kotter. He has the #1 offsense in the NFL with 2 horrible QB’s!! It’s eh QB’s stupid!

  37. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Again, I’m no fan of Dirk, but Baltimore has done this to everyone – it’s not like this week was something new. So you could say the Bucs should be prepared, but against other teams that were prepared they had the same numbers.

Also for a defense forced to start Joe Dirt at MLB, and guys who were on the street not that long again, and missing your best player in the secondary, I don’t think the defense did a bad job. The Ravens just have a good line, ran it down our throat, and controlled the ball.

  38. Season Is Over Says:

Does Licht get the “Rock Star” moniker now that he sucks just as bad?

  39. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Talk about triggered. LOL! I was making a joke, lighten up dude.

  40. Tval Says:

Tell that to luck and the colts. You don’t abandon your franchise for ABYSMAL GM/coaching moves. Truly ignorant

  41. Bye bye miss Says:

7423. We only did well in the second half against prevent defenses killing time and letting us move up and down the field.

When the games on the line our QB has a 54 rating.

  42. Ndog Says:

Bucnut you are making a serious run a being the dumbest person on this site next to Anthem.

  43. PSLBob Says:

Bucs68, couldn’t agree more. Total waste of a 2nd round pick, when so many other RBs in the draft are having good 1st seasons.

  44. bucnut2 Says:

Ndog- We always have you to point to as the dumbest person on this site so at worst, Ill be 2nd dumbest!

  45. Bucs 14 Says:

Clean house on the D except for Nassib and JPP. Don’t give Magoo the $20 million. He is not that good.

  46. PSLBob Says:

Not sure what happened to our “explosive” offense of the first half of the season. I know DJax and OJ are out, but with Evans, Godwin, Brate, and Humphries, we should still be better than we’re playing now. Did the defenses figure us out? If that’s the case, then it’s on Koetter for not adjusting and throwing in some new looks. That’s one of my main beefs with the man. He’s so predictable. We get near the goal line and its run twice and pass. Why not play action on first down? And on top of that way too many dropped passes today, regardless of the weather.

  47. garbs65 Says:

JW, whereas he was sucky early this season, is certainly not the biggest concern on this team.

  48. Waterboy Says:

Jameis has to do a better job catching the ball and designing plays. I recorded 3 drops on the first 3 drives (Godwin, Evans and Brate). So yeah let’s blame it all on Winston.

4th drive ended in a TD.

5th drive and amazing play by Winston to hit Evans deep to overcome a 2nd a 20 after a Jensen holding penalty. Ended in a FG

6th drive 9 secs before the half

7th drive Ronald Jones drop on 2nd and 7 ended in a Punt

8th drive after recovered fumble on a punt. Evans penalty that nullified a catch by Humphries and instead of 3rd and 1 it went to 2nd and 18. Ended in FG.

9th drive empty backfield on 1st down and bad throw by Winston for an INT.

10th drive horrible play design/call on 4th and 4 not 1 person open.

  49. denjoe Says:

How can we assess any player, with this chicken ship coaching staff! Let a real coach decide what he wants to do with these players. see ya dirk, good luck.

  50. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Ravens grabbed momentum at the end of the half. I knew then they’d come out in the third and punch us in the mouth.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

Waterboy – Nice summary of the day. Bucs only had 47 offensive plays – that’s wayyyyy less than a normal week. Meanwhile the Ravens had 74 offensive plays – that’s wayyyyy more than a normal week.

  54. Rod Munch Says:

LUVMYBUCS – Here’s some more stats.

    Bucs all-time leading TD passer.
    Bucs 2nd all-time leading passer.
NOT in the top 5 of the Bucs all-time leading INT leaders.

Also some more stats for you…

Has played the hardest schedule in football since 2015.
Has had the worst defense in football since 2015.

But yeah, it’s all on him.

    LOL!

Now do me a favor and take a bath in hydrochloric acid.

  55. Buc Frank Says:

Anybody who thinks the glazers are interested in winning championships just needs to look at Man U. They have taken one of the most storied soccer franchises and made them mediocre. They only thing they are interested in is making money. They don’t need a winning team to do that. Between the TV packages and merchandising rights they make plenty of money. The stadium could be half empty every game and it wouldn’t effect them financially.

  56. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Yeah, boy those Ravens are amazing. They’re 8-6!!! This is not the Ray Lewis led Super Bowl Champions historic D. It’s a decent defense, but Jay Miss and the offense had no answers.

  57. Nprbuc Says:

Bucs Fan #7243. What game were you watching? Vea just a big fat slob? The man was fighting double teams most of the day. Played nearly every play to the whistle. Made tackles 7 yds downfield cuz he doesn’t quit. Must have had 9-10 tackles for the day. Huge day for an interior lineman! Maybe Santa will bring you Lasik surgery for Christmas? Just sayin.

  58. Not there yet Says:

That’s just coaches not being to adjust when a defense adjusts the game plan. How do I know this because before they were putting up big numbers in the second half when stifled in the first. The real coaches are adjusting by the end of the games which is why the comeback has always failed. Winston is not perfect and dies make stupid throws but any decent coach will win games with this roster just wait until Koetter gets fired, this dude is pure trash

  59. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Nprbucs-

What effect did vita cupcake marshmallow Vea have on the ravens offense today?!?!!!???

  60. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Munch

    B!tch, please

For a Franchise with the worst winning percentage in the NFL.
Jay Cutler’s career stats would lead our Franchise in Most Categories.

  61. down in the dirt Doug Says:

The known football world knows that Koetter is a nice guy that can’t think in real time. The problem is that he should have never been recommended by Licht.

  62. Rod Munch Says:

LUVMYBUCS – Correct dope, the leagues, by far, worst franchise yet you blame the best QB in team history for losing. Nice logic there.

  63. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Munch

U know damn well if you’re at the top of the list in turnovers over the past 4 seasons.
The blame is squarely on your shoulders. But go ahead an keep making excuses for Ur Boo.

  64. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Jameis Winston (Career Stats)

    Interception Percentage
    • 2018: 4.4% – Ranked 2nd
    • 2017: 2.5% – Ranked 13th
    • 2016: 3.2% – Ranked 4th
    • 2015: 2.8% – Ranked 7th

    4yr. Average Interception Percentage: 3.2% | 4yr. Average Ranking: 6.5

Yep, that’s bottom of barrel type sh!t
Especially when you take into account his fumble numbers.

Lol, but go ahead and continue spinning for Ur Boo

  65. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Of all the Bucs you could criticize yesterday, VITA VEA was definitely not one of them.

    That is hilarious, #7423.
