Time For Team Glazer To Step In And Demand Jameis Take Back The Starting Job

November 11th, 2018

Team Glazer members must put their feet down

This is about being smart and not managing scared.

You run a team to get to the Super Bowl, not to worry about freakin’ lines on a spreadsheet representing money you have to shell out to players regardless.

Loads of fans and pundits think Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, represents a terrible risk for this Bucs franchise.

There is no denying that his play has been below average among starting QBs through his 48 career starts, and some fans and media think the Bucs can’t risk playing Jameis again this season. Why? Because if he suffers a serious injury that he’s still recovering from in mid-March, then the Bucs would owe him $21 million next season.

That line of thinking is weak and foolish.

If Team Glazer buys into that nonsense, Joe will be surprised and awfully disappointed. And Team Glazer will be excoriated for it on these here pages.

First, $21 million is not a lot of money to risk in the world of the NFL.

Team Glazer signed off on paying Vincent Jackson $10 million to return in 2016, coming off a serious knee injury. (Joe won’t rehash Doug Martin for the sake of Joe’s blood pressure.) Ownership also paid wide receiver Michael Clayton $10 million guaranteed in 2009, when they knew he couldn’t catch the football.

Remember Michael “Ghost” Johnson? Team Glazer paid him $7 million not to play for the Buccaneers in 2015.

Team Glazer also gave a thumbs up to trading a first-round draft pick for Darrelle Revis and granted him a $16 million per year contract when he was coming off major knee surgery.

How bout the money Team Glazer paid Chucky, Raheem Morris, Greg Schaino and Lovie Smith not to coach this team? That’s way more than a possible $21 million loss to Jameis (keyword possible).

What are the odds of Jameis having a serious injury in the next seven games? Maybe a 20 percent chance.

Those are fantastic Bucs-friendly odds. So put him on the darn field.

This could go several ways:

  1. Jameis plays well and the new 2019 head coach wants him
  2. Jameis plays well and the new 2019 head coach wants him traded and the Bucs get good compensation
  3. Jameis plays poorly and the Bucs bench him late in the season and get a look at Ryan Griffin and dump Jameis after the season
  4. Jameis’ is up and down through the final seven games and the Bucs have a tough decision on their hands
  5. Jameis gets hurt and the Bucs are stuck with him for 2019, which could have various consequences if he returned healthy, say, for training camp.

Joe has no idea how Jameis will perform with his career very much on the line — for a team that plays defense like it doesn’t want to hurt anyone.

But the bottom line is there should be no what-ifs on the table about Jameis after this season.

Team Glazer, get Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht in a conference room tomorrow morning and tell them it’s time to go all-in with Jameis immediately, like it or not.

  1. Nano Says:

    Omg make up your mind

  2. JimmyJack Says:

What we got 7 games left? Give Winston 3-4 and if he stinks up the joint you put Ryan Griffen in there.

You do this as a courtesy to your next coach. Give him as much info as possible.

  3. LakeLand Says:

Play Ryan Griffin and see how he work out

Then maybe, just maybe he can save Licht and Koetter job
Jamies and Fitz is old news

  4. SchwiftyBuc Says:

If the effing Glazer’s knew ANYTHING! Koeter and Licht wouldn’t have been retained for this season. They would have written Jim Harbough a blank check to be our new Head Coach and we’d have hired the wrongfully fired ex Panthers Gm Dave Gettleman to replace Licht.

Ah well. Wtf do I know anyway. Not like I saw this coming or anything like that.

Now I say we either coax Bill Cowher out of retirement or hire a research firm to hire the next GM and HC combo. Because it’s evident and clear that the G boys don’t have a clue what it takes to rekindle the magic they had with their first 2 coaching hires of Dungy and Gruden.

But because it would be the right thing to do, you can bet the Glazer’s won’t do it. They’ll probably retain Dirk and Licht for another season if we go 5-11 again because the arrow will be pointing up… I mean we’ve had so many one score games this year, we’re so close… Right?

  5. Pryda Says:

Embarrassing today’s effort Foook this team trash trash trash fire coach and trade GMC LVD keep Jameis and Kwon blah

  6. Tiredbuc Says:

    JP…is that you?

  7. quickdrw21 Says:

No way. Why play him. He’s just a financial liability and he’s not even a good qb. Why risk money we need on real contributors after these guys are all gone in a few weeks.

  8. Cs2 Says:

Jameis isn’t the quarterback we need. Neither is fitzpatrick. Draft a new one

  9. Jglazer Says:

Make up your mind Joe. 3 weeks ago it was fire him. Joe never wrote to “fire” Jameis. Why make things up. Joe understood the move to bench him in the Bengals game. Outside of that, Joe’s points now, in the fluid NFL, are very clear above. –Joe Now its he has to be the starter. When is your love affair with the crab stealing, careless with the football, crotch grabbing, and totally delusional QB going to end.

  10. SchwiftyBuc Says:

I mean really, how many more times do we need to see Dirk Koetter and crew get out coached before the G’s and morons like Realist and Bonzai see that he’s average and best and awful at worst amongst his peers as an NFL Head Coach?

20 more? 30 more? I know I’ve seen enough. I’d seen enough after last season. Too bad losers like me don’t have any kind of input as to what decisions should be made regarding this embarrassing excuse of a sports team.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Glazers won’t need to demand….Koetter will put Jameis back in unless the Glazers have already demanded he doesn’t play.

  12. Mike in MO Says:

Once more I must ask, why? He’s not the answer Joe. It’s time to move on. If anything, they ought to give Griffen a try.

Joe is hoping for 7 games of fool’s gold from Winston to erase the memory of the previous 48 games.
Wrong! Joe is all in favor of the Bucs getting the most out of Jameis, whether that be on the field or in a trade. And Joe is all for letting the next head coach pick his QB with as much film as possible. -Joe

  13. Matt Says:

    Joe you miss the point.

Jameis is not a franchise QB. Nothing else matters

  14. LakeLand Says:

Only Ryan Griffin can save Licht and Koetter jobs

  15. Easy Says:

Just play Griffin already. As bad as L E E wants to see Winston again (EVERYONE at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters is on board with the move back to Jameis. –Joe we’ve seen all we need to see from him.

  16. Patrick Says:

This is just pure insanity. We’ve already seen 4 years of Jameis, how much more do you need to see?!?!? We’re actually setting team records on offense and Fitz has had a good season. Winston should EARN his spot back. Enough of handing stuff back to this guy. Sick of it! It’s all about Jameis, it’s never about this team and winning games!

  17. JimmyJack Says:

You could make the argument that if Winston does get hurt and owed starters money theres not a decent coach out there would take the job with that kind d of strain at QB.

  18. Waterboy Says:

Let Koetter sink the ship on his own the rest of this season and give Winston a fresh start under a new coach after the season. There’s no need to let Koetter ruin the guy’s confidence any further.

  19. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Mike in MO

I believe in Jameis being the answer far more than I believe in Koetter being the answer.

I mean shoot, Jameis proved he could be a championship caliber player when he nearly singlehandedly carried his team to victory in the national championship game VS. Auburn. I’m not an FSU fan by the way. But what the hell has Dirk Koetter ever won in College or the Pros as a coach? I’ll wait.

  20. Bobby M. Says:

Fitz stays in….he’s tanking the season to secure a high pick. This could be Josh McCown 2.0 similar to Lovies first year.

  21. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @JimmyJack

Not like the G’s know what the hell a good coach looks like to begin with.

  22. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Unfortunately, option #4 seems like the most likely of the scenarios. And that’s not a good thing at all. With that said, personally, whether Glazer-demanded or not, I think there was little doubt Jameis was gonna start anyway with the season being already lost.

These next 7 games will go a long way in determining the future of the Bucs Franchise. So strap in, and (try to) enjoy the ride.

  23. LakeLand Says:

    JimmyJack

The $21 Million that Jameis will earn
Will count against the salary cap

It will be hard to bring in a new HC
When you’re in Salary Cap Hell
That’s ludicrous. And it’s only 1 year. And the Bucs will be dumping plenty of salary. Loads of it. –Joe

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Is the Big Tuna too old for a comeback?

  25. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

If the GM we bring in doesn’t trim the 1000 pounds and around 50 million in cap space from this roster by cutting players like Gerald McCoy, Brent Grimes, and others, then it won’t matter if we pay Jameis 30 million a season. Because we’ll still be a below average roster in the best division in football.

  26. JimmyJack Says:

    Exactly my point Lakeland.

  27. Cobraboy Says:

How much more do fans need to see Winston? And who, besides Winston apologists, think a possible Winstons 7 game end-of-year performance would impact the pro scouting of other NFL teams?

If the season is really over—and it is—why not put Griffin out there to see what he has? Why not just tank for the draft? I’m not sure, but right now the Bucs are tied for the 3rd pick in the draft.

  28. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Only losers worry about the salary cap.

“Fear losing, not the salary cap”

  29. Bculaw Says:

I’d start tomorrow off by firing Koetter, promoting literally anyone else to HC, and giving Jameis a 7 game tryout with Monken in complete control of the offense. No sense in giving Jameis any more games with koetter calling the shots since we know that pairing is broken. Jameis needs a chance with another coach. We can do it here, or he can do it elsewhere. Either way, the right fit could pay huge dividends with a 24 year old with 12k yards under his belt already. We all know what leaving this franchise does for young, talented QBs with potential.

  30. Say what Says:

there are coaches out there drooling to get ahold of Winston ( trust me I know). Play him and fire Dirk in a few weeks and bring in a veteran coach. I bet the house he can turn Winston into a prowbowler. As for the Tampa fans , you’re clueless so go back to screwing up elections and let the football people do there thing.

  31. Cobraboy Says:

I suspect the Bucs will be gutting the team of high-priced veterans (including Winston) going into the next NFL year. The team would be much more attractive to a new GM and coach with $50-60+ million of cap space.

  32. Frank813 Says:

Instead of giving Jaemis the job back, how about he earns it?

  33. JimmyJack Says:

Bculaw…..I like that idea and I would hope that Monken would change a lot of the current scheme’s he is running.

  34. SchwiftyBuc Says:

I personally don’t need to see Jameis play another game in Dirk Koetter’s 1970’s offensive scheme.

I do however need to see in him a modern, QB friendly NFL scheme crafted around Jameis’ strengths before I declare him a bust.

This is btw a kid who’s had thrown for nearly 70 TD’s and 12,000 yards in his 1st 3 seasons in an antiquated offense. He’s also a kid who’s had nearly perfectly played games squandered by atrocious defense, like last year vs Atl or Buffalo.

He’s also a kid who threw for 5 TD’s in one game vs Philly in his Rookie year.

Give Jameis a chance to prove himselff in a non Dirk Offense.

  35. Jglazer Says:

Honestly are you in a love affair with jameis? Taking bribes from the bucs PR dept? Bribes from Jameis? Or does Jameis have dirt on you? You were all negative now you want him to start. So tired of your Jameis cheerleading

  36. LakeLand Says:

They will owe Jameis $21 Million for one year

One year seems like a short period of time
But it’s a whole lot of time, if you’re the HC of the Bucs

You only have 2-3 years at the most, to turn this thing around

That ” One Year” could be 1/3 of your time as the HC of the Bucs

  37. Pete I Says:

Jameis is a failure. But go ahead, play him, he fits right in with the rest of the organization. Maybe Joe will finally get it out of his system.

Perhaps the least credible article to grace this page. Jameis is a first pick bust. And aleays will be.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

    Say what. You’re a creep

  39. LakeLand Says:

Any ” Sane” person will fear the salary cap

You have a team of ” Bums”
You need cap space to bring in a better quality of players

How else can you get players here?

  40. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Joe, my money is on #3, and I don’t mean Jay Miss, but rather #3 of your 5 scenarios.

  41. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

Give me an effing break. The only reason that Coaches have only been getting 2-3 years with us is because the dumba$$ G’s keep hiring the wrong guys.

There aint a single thing wrong with firing a HC after 2 years if it’s clearly the right decision. Just like firing Dirk after last year would have been the right decision.

  42. Say what Says:

Jimmyjack: You just made my point! Clueless!!

  43. LakeLand Says:

Le’Veon Bell will probably be a free agent next season

It take money ( salary cap) to sign him

  44. Blackmagic00 Says:

Time for these Glazer boys to quit being offseason champions and hire the right person to take over and make this franchise respectable again. We’ve been offseason champions since 2009 and its disgusting how every season plays out. And remember everyone pining for Winston when Freeman lost it? I do! We got what we wanted and now we’re back to square one again. Sickening!

  45. JimmyJack Says:

No future HC wants to walk into a Trainwreck of a situation at QB.

And if a HC canidates doesn’t want Winston and is stuck with him I’m sure they would consider it a Trainwreck.

  46. LakeLand Says:

    SchwiftyBuc

    Whatever reason it may be

You only have 2-3 years to win in Tampa

  47. JimmyJack Says:

Say What have your fun kicking us when we are down.

  48. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

The salary cap goes up 10 million every season.

And we can free up at least, at least, 40-50 million if we make the right moves this offseason.

  49. SchwiftyBuc Says:

The salary cap is the least of our worries. We need to find the right damn General Manager and Head Coach or nothing that we do will matter at all.

  50. Gettinthebucs Says:

I’d like to see Jameis under a new coaching staff and some better o line play along with a running game. 21 million isn’t a lot of money for these guys. If he sucks next year under a new coaching staff you draft a QB in 2020 for the new regime. If he plays well you can sign him on a bargain/incentive deal because of his off field stuff. Jared Goff played like doodie under Fisher and company and then mcvay showed up and changed everything. I just think it’s silly to give up on a first overall pick.

  51. LakeLand Says:

The last HC that had longer than 3 years

    Was fired 10 years ago

And he won a Super Bowl here

    Give me a BREAK

  52. Dewey Selmon Says:

Chances are Djax and Grimes will not be here next year, that’s 18 mil. Plus the salary cap goes up. Winston needs to be evaluated by another coaching staff.

  53. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

That’s so disingenuous you made me chuckle.

The reason is the Glazers continue to hire guys that suck.

If they hired a HC that knew how to develop players and formulate winning gameplans, they would get much more than 2-3 years to turn the team around.

  54. Warrenfb12 Says:

I mean take it to the bank #4 will be the outcome

  55. SchwiftyBuc Says:

21 million is only 3 million more dollars than the Bears paid Mike Glennon in 2017.

  56. A’train4047 Says:

Stop with the play Ryan griffin stuff. The guy sucks and will be nothing more than a career backup. Jameis played terrible this season but I seem to recall last year the defense blew at least 5 leads he gave them late in games. I agree that Winston’s turnovers must stop and are inexcusable but letting him play the rest of the year is the smart move. If you compare Winston’s numbers to Favre, Brady, Manning, brees, and others in their first 4 seasons they are very comparable. The difference between them was the other qbs had better coaches and a defense.

  57. LakeLand Says:

    SchwiftyBuc

    Knowing the Glazers track record

Why you think they will overnight become football geniuses?

    Now you’re making me laugh

  58. SchwiftyBuc Says:

And look at them now. They’re 6-3 and firmly in control of their division. Funny how taking a risk for 1 season didn’t put them in salary cap hell but that’s what it would do to us…

    Makes you wonder…

  59. Gettinthebucs Says:

Sorry Ira but I hope the chiefs lose in their first game of the playoffs again this year and we can bring Andy Reid after he gets canned. I’ll take 10 to 12 wins a season and no super bowl after these 11 years of sorrow.
    GoBucs!

  60. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

I don’t think that. In fact I think the exact opposite. I think the only way they have a chance to actually find a winning HC GM combo is to admit they can’t do it and hire someone else to.

Regardless of what they actually do in reality, I can tell you and everyone else this much, Dirk Koetter will never win a Superbowl as a Head coach. Not for the Bucs, and not for anyone else. You can bet on that.

  61. JimmyJack Says:

Atrain the season is presumably over. I didn’t warrant the Ryan Griffen talk before but now it is relevant…….If he does play it probably won’t be until last four games(I’m guessing)

  62. Richard Says:

This entire website is a joke. Joe Bucs needs to find a professional editor for the site rather than writing this mindless dribble. Thank you for your continued patronage. And the word is “drivel.” –Joe

  63. LakeLand Says:

Yeah the Bears payed Mike Glennon a lot of money

    And guess what?

The Bears HC was sacked after the season
And Ryan Pace is still their GM

  64. SchwiftyBuc Says:

$hit bro at this point, why not hire Peyton Manning to be our GM. I’m sure we could do worse. Shoot, sell the dang franchise to Manning for all I care.

  65. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

What a coincidence, the Bears fired John Fox because he clearly wasn’t the guy. I wonder if we’d be smart to do the same thing.

  66. DaPostman Says:

This was the plan after the Bengals game all along. Bench Winston with tough love about ball security and bring him back once the playoffs look bleak. If Winston realizes he can only do his job and not try to rescue these scrubs he may just turn the corner. There is no reason to tune in to watch Fitz. The Winston experience is must watch TV for Buc fans.

  67. Nick Says:

Regardless, this team is tough to watch. We have all been praying for one game where the defense just played mediocre. When they finally do just that, Keotter’s selfishness takes over and he takes over play calling. We were averaging nearly 30 points a game against pretty good defenses this year up to this point. This team is rough on all sides. Blocking is well below acceptable, it seems every time we enter the red zone, the offensive line finds a way to blow the team out of the water…either choosing to not block, hike, or not give up a huge penalty. They just are mentally weak when it comes to pressure. But isn’t that just a small sample of this team as a whole.

  68. LakeLand Says:

    SchwiftyBuc

I’m not saying that they shouldn’t play Jameis Winston
I’m only pointing out the risks of playing him

    And as I stated earlier
Only Ryan Griffin can save Licht/Koetter job

  69. Just a thought Says:

Maybe just maybe this coaching staff didn’t set Jameis up to succeed. He’s not a drop back 5 to 7 step Qb. He’s a 3 step drop quick decision making Qb that needs a franchise RB. You can’t use hard play action in your offense and think Linebackers and Safety’s will bite. Oh and by the way, dropping him back on avg of 45 attempts a game might cause turnovers as well. Your job as a coach is to find out what your player does best and work to his strengths. Not set him up to fail because you want the Journey man QB in because he can throw the deep ball better. Dirk you but all your faith in Fitz and got burned! He is what he is and that’s a hot and cold Qb. Give me one young franchise Qb without a running back. This franchise is clueless. You picked Ronald Jones or better backs because he had tape running through wide open holes in a conference with week defense! The past two years this franchise has picked the wrong running back in the draft. I hope the Glazers chose a regime with sense and evaluation experience. Oh and have a plan on what you want your team to be. What’s our identity?

  70. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Just one extra thing on the subject of the Bears, I’m sure if Jon Gruden wasn’t a complete rube and had he not traded Khalil Mack to the Bears, they’d be around 4-5 and Ryan Pace would be looking like the below average GM that he is right now. But I guess that’s unrelated to the topic.

  71. Say what Says:

Jimmyjack I’m not kicking you. All I’m saying is Winston isn’t the entire problem here. Sure he is struggling however coaches want that challenge and there are quite a few NFL HC that woul love to coach him. So if you want to start all over and throw Winston away then in my opinion you’re clueless. I’m mean correct me if I’m wrong but Tampa has a history of throwing away good talent.

  72. Cgmaster Says:

Jglazer and wer’re tired of you anti Jameis fans bitching about him, and yet, here you are.

  73. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Ryan Griffen doesn’t have as much talent or skill in his whole body as Jameis does in 1 finger.

The dude is a career backup. Licht and Koetter are as good as gone. Grif couldn’t save their jobs if he wanted to.

  74. Buc4evr Says:

Koetter needs to be fired tomorrow and Jameis needs to start. 3 points – pathetic. Licht needs to be fired at the end of the season. Another start over, it’s a pirates life.

  75. JimmyJack Says:

Say What I disagree that any fan who blames the QB position for our record is clueless. Our QB play has been absolutely horrendous for 8 straight games now. It’s a legit critisism……especially for an extremely frustrated fanbase.

  76. K_Bassuka Says:

We need to put Jameis back in cut Suckpatrick and anyone else that has a problem with those moves.

  77. DBS Says:

Love people like Say what. Like to go on sites acting like a big shot. Notice he fails to mention these coaches names. And it was not the Tampa area screwing up elections. In fact the area is farther south under the gun.

  78. LakeLand Says:

If Jameis Winston come back and play lights out
And the Bucs win 5 of 7 and finish 8-8

    They will still fire Koetter/Licht
For benching him in the first place

  79. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Buc4evr

G’s don’t have the balls to fire Koetter midseason. He’ll be here untill the bitter end when we hopefully have just gone 3-13 and secured ourselves a top 3 2019 1st round draft pick behind the Giants and Raiders.

  80. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

Thay should have been fired last season. I’ve saying it all effing year.

  81. JimmyJack Says:

There isn’t any position group or part of our coaching staff that shouldn’t be blamed.

  82. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    I’ve been*

  83. T REX Says:

Homer Joes at it again. Winston sucks. I don’t need him getting hurt and us losing 20 million in cap space next year for a piece if trash.

Bad move and indefensible. No one is trading for Winston and his 20 mill dollar salary. You’re idiots.

  84. GhostofSchiano Says:

Does joe dislike all quarterbacks named Ryan? Or anyone not named Jameis?

Fitz and Winston have had multiple opportunities this year. Griffin has not. What do they have to lose at this point?

But only if Monken is calling the plays.

  85. LakeLand Says:

    It’s a no win situation for Koetter/Licht

  86. JimmyJack Says:

Dirk was hired for the wrong reason and retained for wrong reasons.

  87. Conte Piscatelli Says:

My issue with Jameis is I don’t think he is a good fit for Koetter offense. Yes that sounds crazy, but this offense requires deep ball shots that he struggles with. I also feel Jameis has struggled with multiple read, if like to see him in an offense that uses quicker developing plays with clear simple reads focusing on passes 5-15 yards.

  88. Dave Says:

Go ahead and put Jameis in. Then the WRs will all quit just like the rest of the team.

  89. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @GhostofSchiano

Advocating for Griffin to start over Jameis or Fitz is like Advocating for Riley Bullough or Cam Lynch to start over Lavonte David just to see what they have.

We know who they are are. We know who Griffin is. If you don’t I’m sorry you’re late to the party. But he’s a nothing special career 3rd stringer. That’s it and that’s all.

  90. LakeLand Says:

    Conte Piscatelli

I have been saying this for 2 years

Jameis Winston is not a vertical passer
He’s not a deep ball passer

His strengths are getting the ball to the TE, Slot WR

  91. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Dave

The only WR who quit on Jameis is DJax. Who never should have been hired to begin with.

Anyone else think it’s not just a funny coincidence that we signed Jackson in the same offseason that we signed Chris Baker?

  92. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Lakeland

Funny how we seem to agree on so much yet just spent the last 15 minutes arguing.

  93. JimmyJack Says:

I didn’t wanna fire Licht until now. His final straw was not trading D-Jax. Please correct me if keeping D-Jax has paid off.

  94. JimmyJack Says:

Oh I’m sorry. Captain D-Jax. He was our Captain right?

  95. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @JimmyJack

Screw Licht not trading Djax! How about Koetter making him a Captain 1 week after him demanding to be traded!

  96. LakeLand Says:

    SchwiftyBuc

    I agree with you
But I was looking at it, from Koetter/Licht view
What it takes to save their jobs

  97. SchwiftyBuc Says:

lol i guess i spoke a bit too soon. good on ya JJ. Yeah I found that to be complete weak sauce capitulating bs from Koetter.

  98. JimmyJack Says:

Winston has pretty nice career numbers when throwing into the deep post………Dirk refuses to call a post though.

Not afraid to fake a punt on the wrong 30 but too scared or stupid to call a play to the post.

  99. Not Americas QB Says:

Whoever wrote this is an …..
The Glazers dont’t want him in he is done here.

  100. LakeLand Says:

    They didn’t need DJax

    They panic during free agency
They didn’t know that OJ and Godwin will fall into their lap

    @Lakeland

They also didn’t have the eye for talent. Or they’d have taken Kareem Hunt or Alvin Kamara in round 2 like I suggested numerous times before the draft.

Or ya know even after they took Justin Evans we still could have had James Connor in the 4th like I also was stumping for. But wtfdik.

  102. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs should make Winston the new kicker. That way he could kick interceptions

Time to listen to The Commish; light the ends of our big MFing sticks and take to the street!
Don’t make ownership tie JayMiss to any new HC hire; let new regime determine their direction, JayMiss be damned!

  104. GhostofSchiano Says:

    @Schwiftybuc

Just wanted to see if Griffin could play start and finish a regular season game with fewer turnovers than the other 2 turnover machines.

  105. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @BrianBuc

I can tell me and you don’t see things the same at all. But god dang if that didn’t make me laugh out loud.

    Go Bucs… 🙁

  106. Troy Says:

He’d already be in if the Glazers wanted him to play. But let’s get serious here, who QBs this team doesn’t matter as long as Koetter remains the coach.

  107. GhostofSchiano Says:

    @Schwiftybuc

Just wanted to see if Griffin could start and finish a regular season game with fewer turnovers than the other 2 turnover machines.

  108. LakeLand Says:

It’s never a good idea to add a veteran WR like DJax
To a young group of offensive players

He’s bad news, bad morale for the youngsters

  109. Wellsy Says:

Joe(s), in no way shape or form is this team going to be anything other than what we saw today with or without Jameis. It’s time to reconcile with the fact that picking Jameis and missing on that pick will set us back 7-10 years…..just like Freeman(who I was adamantly against btw). There’s a Beatles song that says it best…..”he’s a real nowhere man..Making all his nowhere plans for nobody”. Burn it down while there’s still something left to burn.

  110. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    LL

I swear he’s subconciously poisoned a lot of players in this locker room against Jameis. I bet Robert Woods or Marquis Goodwin wouldn’t have done that…

But who the F am I?

  111. LakeLand Says:

I was hoping for them to sign Robert Woods over DJax

  112. Rod Munch Says:

After week 2 the Fitz backers told me it wasn’t a hot streak, that his new norm, he was going to keep up his pace and have 6600 yards on the season and 84 TDs…

    LOL!

  113. LakeLand Says:

It was only a matter of time before Fitzarella lost his slippers

  114. SchwiftyBuc Says:

I wanted Terrell Pryor or Dede Westbrook over Djax. But I also felt that Oline and RB were a far greater priority over WR if we wanted to see any real improvement as an offense. Especially in the redzone.

My RB rankings for the 2017 draft was Fournette, McCaffery, Mixon, Hunt, Foreman, Kamara, Cohen, Perine, and Connor and I thought Cook would be a bust.

So far I’ve missed on Foreman and Perine, but couldn’t have been more right about the rest. Especially with Hunt and Connor.

  115. Wellsy Says:

Joe(s)…….as a long time reader/visitor to this site I feel compelled to respond to this foolishness. In no way shape or form will this team look any different with Jameis starting today or the rest of the season. A turd is a turd. I love your site and read it daily but the BS about Jameis has to stop. Just like the Freeman pick(that I was against btw)we have been set back 7- 10 years by picking Winston. Burn it down……..there is no other option. We’ve had enough

  116. tnew Says:

I have a different take. I have seen enough of the Winston/Koetter relationship. Winston doesn’t need to take another snap with Koetter as the coach. Play Fitz or Griffin. The relationship is broken.

Nothing less than the playoffs saves Koetter.

Koetter should’ve been fired after last season and would’ve been had Winston not rallied the team coming down the stretch. That won’t be happening this season, unless Fitz, smoke and mirrors, magic strikes again and for 8 games. Koetter never made the running back, offensive line or entire defense a priority. The redzone struggles of his no running, finesse, vertical system is apparent and real.

The off season will give the Bucs a new coach who will have a season to pull a Sean McVay (remember Goff with Jeff Fisher??) with Winston. If Winston doesn’t progress the season is a free year for the new coach who can come in and do whatever he wants at the QB position. Licht has the team in very good contracts. $100mil can be shaved off the books next season with zero dead money (cap hit) per Spotrac.com.

Koetter’s offensive philosophy will put up monster numbers with his vertical system but enter the redzone and this scheme bottoms out Why??? When the field condenses, vertical passing schemes don’t work. Like he said, he doesn’t have many plays that work from the 20.

  117. Rod Munch Says:

LakeLand – Robert Woods wasn’t doing much of anything until this year, but I don’t believe for a moment that D-Jax wouldn’t be putting up the same, if not better numbers than Woods in that same situation. The Bucs have plenty of WRs, and I’d say they’re better than the Rams WRs, but the Rams have the best rushing attack in football and a truly great offensive line that gives Goff all day to throw the ball. Also since they have a running game the safeties can’t just sit back in coverage all day helping to play deep, they have to come up to play the run, which lets Woods and Cooks get 1-on-1 coverage – and the QB has time to let plays develop and can deliver the ball without being under much pressure. Woods is a good WR with good speed but there isn’t another team in football where he’d have the season he’s having right now.

  118. JimmyJack Says:

How about instead on blowing 10 million dollars on a passing game that was already good we use it on any of the other phases of football we are awful at?

  119. LakeLand Says:

    Rod Munch

    But Robert Woods is young
    And he’s a good #2-3 WR

  120. BrianBucs Says:

    Schwifty

We’re all fans and we all have our moments

  121. JimmyJack Says:

We didn’t even need a WR because that’s one of the few positions our scouting department can handle(Godwin, Humphries, Watson?).

20million for D-Jax was one of the bigger FA blunders in this franchises history IMO.

  122. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Tnew

    I’m With you 100%

What would be your plan of action to turn around the franchise?

  123. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs should have known that DJax wasn’t going to be happy
Being their 2nd or 3rd option

Robert Woods would have been happy in that role

  124. Ndog Says:

All the Jameis haters out in force I see. How can anyone argue with this piece? This is the most common sense thing ever written on this site. The only thing I don’t like is that we started Fitz the last 2 games. That was plain stupidity but think again it was Koetter making the decision.

  125. SchwiftyBuc Says:

On the subject of Woods vs Jackson, I don’t think Woods has it in him to dis his 24 yo QB and try to poison the team against him. I know Jackson does.

  126. Broodlaw Says:

I mean if Jameis goes in and sucks then we’ll just start complaining how we need Fitz in there again. Basically these articles are just conversation points since as fans all we can do is scramble around until January or we fall out of playoff contention and the Glazers have enough, whichever happens sooner we know where this is going; and Dirk, Jason and Jameis won’t have a part in it.

  127. BrianBucs Says:

Demand? The very first thing that the Glazers should demand is Jason Light’s resignation

  128. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog I think there are arguments to be made against handing the ball to Winston.

  129. LakeLand Says:

What’s the purpose of carrying Ryan Griffin on the roster
If you’re afraid of him taking an NFL snap

  130. Ndog Says:

Ok JimmyJack I’ll take the bait. So the arguments would be

We like having no clue who are QB is?
We want to see more of a 35 year old QB who turns the ball over as much as a 4th year player?
We don’t actually want to win so don’t play Jameis.
Dirk is great so let’s stick with his plan. ?.?.?

  131. D1 Says:

    Schwiftybucs,

Why do you think the offense is antiqued,?
If you mentioned it already I missed it, what is Winston’s strengths ?

A 3 step QB has to process info quickly, Winston doesn’t, so are thinking predetermined routes
    to speed him up..

  132. Oneilbucs Says:

But wait I thought fiz was gonna lead us to the playoffs? All yall was going crazy with the fear the beard I told y’all fiz played for 8 different teams and 14 years. Yall was calling him rich Gannon. I’ve even seen people on this site say that a 35 year old quarterback can still grow. Lol lol lol lol lol lol Winston haters are mad now I guess it’s Winston fault. Build this team like the Panthers did for Cam running back and defense.

  133. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @JimmyJack

Coming from an admitted Jameis fan. I agree. He has turned over the ball far too frequently.

Having said that. Their are more arguments to be made about the inadequacies of the 4 verts scheme. Going all the way back to the Don Corryel led teams of the 1970’s with Dan Fouts running the offense. Each and every year, the team generated a ton of yards, a moderate amount of points, and a butt load of turnovers. And by turnovers, I mean interceptions.

Put Jameis in John DeFillipo’s, or Andy Reid’s, or Doug Pederson’s, or Sean McVay’s scheme, and I guarantee you they craft an offense that Jameis thrives in.

He has shown us the goods on occasion. And he’s gone on just as many stretches of good play as he has of bad play.

I’m just not so willing to rush into getting rid of an immensely talented 24 yo QB that’s only ever been in one offensive scheme for us.

Fire the Coaches and GM. Bring in legit championship caliber football men. And then make the judgement on Jameis.

  134. Bucsace Says:

What the Glazers need to do is get Jameis and his agent to agree to changing his contract so they don’t have to shell out the $ 21 million if he gets hurt this season….if they would agree to the change, then hand back the starter job to Jameis….he gets a 7 game final audition, and the Bucs are off the hook for the money if he gets injured
Could be a good deal for both sides

  135. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

48 games is a lot of tape on one guy.

What more is there to see?

  136. LakeLand Says:

    The fact is:

Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick are turning the ball over 3-4 times a game

Why not give the 3rd string QB a look?

  137. BrianBucs Says:

There is a group of young QB’s in the league right now that have been in the league a shorter time than Winston that are playing at a much higher level than he is. Some have their teams in contention or showing promise while Winston is sitting behind and watching a 36 year old journeyman play in front of him.
Thank You Jason Licht for squandering the #1 pick in the draft and setting the franchise back years

  138. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

I hope Winston learned his lesson and stops turning the ball over

  139. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @D1

Pfft. You chose the wrong one. Dirk Koetters offense is antiquated because it remains a largely unchanged version of the standard 4 verticals offense crafted by Don Coryell in the 70’s.

And Jameis’ strengths have been on display for all that were watching and capable of seeing them.

To start, #3 excels at escaping pressure, extending plays with his elusiveness, and throwing on the run.

He also excels at selling the playaction fake, rolling out in either direction and delivering the ball 10-35 yards down the field on the move with exceptional accuracy.

As Lakeland also mentioned, Jameis is also very good at reading the routes to his TE’s and Slot receivers that work inside the numbers. Where as he struggles hitting the long developing routes targetting the sidelines.

Jameis is also a very under-rated mobile threat. After having rushed for 6 redzone touchdowns in his rookie year, it seems as though Jameis was inexplicably persuaded to cut down on his running.

I could go on, but would I really change your mind D1? Or have you already made it up?

  140. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog…..one of the arguments Joe wrote about in the article. The other was already discussed above you.

  141. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

Playing Jamies now is like having the same fight with your girlfriend over the same thing 48 times.

Do you really think…”Well, maybe she’ll finally get it the 49th time I try to explain.”

    Not gonna happen.

    He is what he is.
    He is a turn-over-machine.

  142. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog….. hypothetical……but pretend the Glazers plan to hire Derrick Brooks(or whoever) as president of operations. What if the talked to him privately and he don’t want the job if he is stuck with Wintson.

It might be a hypothetical one but it is still a valid argument

  143. JimmyJack Says:

I do agree with you Schwify that Winston could do better in a different scheme.

But I think right now we are at the mercy of whatever the next coach wants to do.

  144. LakeLand Says:

Fitz and Jameis are turnover machines

This is why I don’t understand Koetter and his offense
    It’s a high-risk offense
Operated by two known turnover machines

  145. JimmyJack Says:

Personally their are a lot of players on this roster (Winston included) that I am reserving judgement on until the next season(again Whit this sh**?)

  146. Rod Munch Says:

Lakeland – I don’t disagree with you, Woods would be a #2-3 on most times, not saying he’s bad by any means, I just don’t think he’s in the D-Jax category. Sure, he’s having a great year, but I think that’s mostly the circumstances. If you put him on a team like Miami for example, I think he’d have a season that pretty much looks like the rest of his seasons, which means around 750 yards and 5 TDs for the season. Could be wrong, maybe he breaks out into something special, but then again he’s in season 6 already, and rarely do guys breakout and become elite. They might have a big year, but they generally fall back to earth the next season. I think D-Jax is still a top player, even at his age.

  147. Bosch Says:

Jameis s on and off field decisions add to the same thing. He is poor at quick decisions and quite possibly with all decisions. He is done in the NFL. It is a a shame given his talent, but true. We have seen others like him (eg Ryan Leaf).

  148. JimmyJack Says:

Robert Woods has been a better receiver then Jackson this year and last year.

  149. WalkdaPlank Says:

Jameis is not a franchise QB. Period. What more do you need to see?

  150. Easy Says:

Roll out Ryan Griffin next week. He’s eaten up a roster spot the past few years and hasn’t even taken one snap. It’s baffling to me.

  151. Blackmagic00 Says:

Joe I have a question. You rambled many numbers off about ex players and salaries and how the Glazer boys lost most of the way. What about the players they paid who did very well? Are there any? My thinking is there are very few. Malcolm loved this franchise with all his heart and knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it. His sons? Not so much. They seem to belong over seas with kickball. I don’t know if this franchise will ever be great again unless someone who loves this sport is able to take over this franchise. It’s sad, especially for us fans.

  152. D1 Says:

    Schwiftybucs,

I don’t have my mind made up. I asked what you see as his strengths and what you think is a offense suited for. Basically, pre draft analysis across the board had jameis projected to do well in this system. The strengths you list aren’t what you build upon. Theyre excellent attributes that separate a guy who can make a play from those that can’t. But you can’t count on scrambles rolling pockets and escapability. And winston throws an incredibly accurate bench and out.

Koetter doesn’t run the 70’s air Coryell system , it’s not accurate . You could call it a spread and it’s more accurate. Now I’m not a big fan of koetters offense as a whole, but there’s solid elements to it. I just don’t like portions of it but it makes sense in context.

  153. DBS Says:

Season is over, time to tank for position. Plain and simple. Jobs that were on the line are not on the line now. This clowns have shown it all.

  154. Not there yet Says:

Who was Winston throwing deep balls to before d jack got here? There were no speedy receivers before him, what receivers do you remember from college besides Kevin Benjamin? Ok he can’t connect with d jack ok what has d jack done the last two games with Fitz? D jack should be done here and the guys that matter he has no issues throwing to. When a guy asks for a trade you send him on his way especially a guy who could have requested to be cut at the end of the season to go look for another team but d jack is a drama queen and like it or not Winston will be here another year. Who wants this team with no quarterback and don’t make me laugh saying keeping old man Fitz while cutting the young with room to grow

  155. Bucsmarley Says:

Let’s get Harbaugh from Michigan and trade Winston and our 1st round pick to Baltimore for Lamar Jackson and be done with it

  156. Wausa Says:

    100% agree Joe

  157. Jawo75 Says:

The Glaizers could care less about this team. It’s just a tax shelter for their soccer team. If they put Winston in, I won’t watch another play until full scale changes are made. Coach, GM, and idiot criminal QB must go.

  158. T REX Says:

I think Winston just threw another pick…

  159. tmaxcon Says:

  160. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Winston equals clicks for the Joes
Actually, he doesn’t at all. –Joe

  161. tnew Says:

schwifty,… that’s an essay you’re asking for there,

But my take is let the Koetter/Fitz/Griffin train roll for the remainder of this season. If the team doesn’t quit, which is unlikely, they will finish out 6-10 at best sitting at the top quarter of the draft, again.

Fire Koetter and purge everyone, except maybe Buckner.

Retain Winston. Those wanting to reject him are being very short sighted. The last three seasons, the offensive line sucked, no commitment to a running game or using backs in the screen and short passing game (huge weapon in the modern game), the special teams and the defense was horrific. Three years ago, he was throwing to a bunch of nobodies. Ask any QB to throw downfield as much as Koetter does and there will be risk. When the field condenses (like in the Red zone) the 4 verts system unravels.

Draft a QB, but not in the first. Best prospect that falls into the third or so round.

Don’t require the coach to develop Winston.

Let DJAX walk. Sexy yes, but too moody. I don’t even like my ladies like this. Trading his roster space/salary figure with a dynamic back would’ve won way more games for this team than nearly any other move.

Offensive line, Don’t pay D. Smith top tackle money. I think some team might pay him. Consider a franchise tag on him. But I am really leary of a longterm deal for him. Fix the right side and dress Kappa some. If he just can’t do it, fine.

Figure out if RoJo can run the ball. Don’t care of how great he blocks. Simplify his routes.

Defense is such a mess. This needs to be exploded. If the new coach isn’t a defensive guy, hire a strong one. Shame the Bucs didn’t promote Buck to see if he was the guy. Could do worse than Kris Richard.

Its a mess. The QB situation is the lighting rod but Winston is so far down the Buc’s list of problem. The team can win games with him and Winston can win games for the team. Biggest problem with Winston is he is loathed, by so many (not a majority but a significant number) fans. He will never win over much of this fanbase. This is a legitimate, but unfortunate, reason to move on. The turnovers do not worry me. They are fixable in the correct system. Run him in a system that features the TE’s and backs out of the backfield with quick reads and he will excel.

I could write pages on just the defense alone.

I’ve watched more game film than any non nfl coach should over the past two seasons. Watching what the Bucs schemes versus most other teams has been really depressing. This team didn’t have to be as bad as they were.

Don’t tank for a higher draft pick. We can’t do that right either – a kicker, a fat guy and a running back who averages minus yards. Oh by the way, Derwin James is being mentioned as rookie of the year!

  170. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs don’t have to tank

I picked them to go 4-12 before the season
    Right after the draft

I have been saying this all the time

They don’t know how to win football games
I will continue to say it
    Until they prove me wrong

  171. LakeLand Says:

They know how to rack up yards
They are good at piling on the stats

Bt they don’t have a clue about winning

    They are a ‘Boxscore’ team

  172. JimmyJack Says:

A top draft pick isn’t what the organization needs. It does us no good when we don’t know how to prepare

  173. Buc-n-Idaho Says:

    JimmyJack is right.

87 hit the nail on the head. IDIOTS!!!!

    JOE, don’t bother defending yourself.

Most of these posters attacking your logic are IDIOTS!!!!

  174. Ruby Reddress Says:

Don’t put Jameis in – he doesn’t have the head or the talent. Don’t risk having to keep him for the 2019 season and having to pay him all that money. Keep playing Fitz and also use Ryan Griffen to see what he actually can do. Start “shopping/planning” for a different franchise quarterback NOW. Maybe, if you get lucky, you can unload Jameis on some other team. Let him take his problems on and off the field far, far away from this team. No idea what to do about Koetter – he doesn’t even know what to do. The team is boring, tiring, maddening, etc., you get the picture. I would rather have a root canal than watch this mess. Wake up and smell the coffee and while you are at it, watch your support falling away like dead lice. HELP!!!

  175. Troy Says:

I want Jameis to play so I can listen to the excuses when the Giants beat us like school girls and Winston throws at least two picks. It’s entertaining.

  176. DalvinCookRules Says:

There is some serious asininity going on here (as usual). NO, you don’t make a decision about your franchise QBs future before you make a decision about the TOP-LEVEL leadership FIRST. This is simple logic.

You aren’t going to get top value for JW in any scenario. If he plays really well (unlikely given the coaching & his current state of mind) then you are only marginally increasing his value–and why would you do that if the next coach that comes in KNOWS how to coach him. JW is still an incredible talent, he just has two serious flaws which greatly overshadow the talent.

I personally don’t throw out my $10K speaker system because the power & volume buttons aren’t working–it’s worth it to me to get those fixed.

Licht has run this team into the ground with horrific drafting & FA decisions, while Koetter is up-and-down as a play caller and completely non-existent in virtually any other category of coaching. As I predicted, he was actually a DOWNGRADE from Lovie Smith as a HC.

The bigger problem here is that the Glazers have no clue how to hire. Daddy at least seemed to have the winning gut-instinct and brainpower, these kids didn’t inherit daddy’s genius.

  177. bucanation Says:

I do not think its all jamis fault the coaching doesn’t focus on his strengths and no running game since he’s been here / he needs a new voice calling the shots here .

  178. Max Says:

I wish we could fire Team Glazer. Bring in an owner who truly cares and has the drive to win.

  179. jay adams Says:

Ok Joe so instead of 2 Picks like Fitz had today we bring Ja-miss and get 3 to 4 Picks next week?
Just last week Fitz threw 4 TDs.
Its not his fault Evans dropped a TD pass, nor J. Rodgers let a ball be punched out , nor the LT let his man in on Fitz with about 2 seconds to cause a fumble/sack.

How about our Center who snapped the ball almost backwards to midfield?

  180. Jason Says:

Anyone who thinks the Bucs still have a chance at the playoffs needs to put down the pipe or lay off the bottle. Those chances are slim and none, and Slim just left town. It’s over.

Therefore, the logical options are these – 1) tell Jameis they are moving on without him and he won’t be playing any more this year. Be honest with the guy, and save yourself $21mil of risk. Announce it publicly.

    2) Play Jameis for the rest of the year no matter how he performs. He’s either confirming your suspicion that he isn’t The Guy for the Bucs, or he’s proving that he has enough talent to keep him around and hire a HC that can properly develop that talent.

But no matter what you do, fire Koetter. Whether he’s to blame totally is up for debate, but a head has to roll and it might as well be his to send a message that the team is starting over.

  181. Jason Says:

And did I mention a re-work of the O-Line and D-Line? Donovan Smith is not a LT no matter what others say. He got beat so many times by the ‘Skins edge rusher yesterday. It was embarrassing. And can we please find a center that doesn’t have to commit a dozen penalties per game?

As for the D-Line, I’m in the “GMac has got to go” camp. Licht got him all kinds of supporting help in the off season, and McCoy still gets pushed all over the place.

Forget all the sexy positions, Jason. Winning teams start with the O-lines & D-Lines. That’s where your focus should be – unless of course you can JW, then we’ll need a QB.

  182. Alanbucsfan Says:

I would only play Jameis if Koetter is fired immediately and Monken takes over until end of year- then go from there- Jameis has been screwed up enough by Koetter.

  183. J Says:

  184. J Says:

  185. stpetebucsfan Says:

We seem to have difficulty as fans realizing the “value” of money to everybody involved.

This is NOT about the money!!! Money represents a consideration but it’s NOT the driving issue.

If you google Jameis Winston’s net worth is 25 million.
The Glazer family is worth 6 BILLION.
Jim Harbaugh is worth just under 20 million…seems low to me…he earns 9 million per year at Michigan and they are happy to pay him that as long as he keeps Michigan a title contender.

NOBODY involved NEEDS anymore money!!! Their egos are far more important at this point. Their competitive natures. $$$ are just about respect.

There is NO check that will lure Harbaugh from Michigan. Jameis is going to play like Jameis…good or bad…regardless of his contract…the Glazers will be mindnumblingly wealthy regardless if they dump 21 million on Jameis.

TNEW is onto it….Jameis represents the franchise reputation to this point…it is a checkered reputation to say the least. If they play him that stuff gets aggravated…if they don’t…it’s still there.

The season is such a disaster at this point I don’t see how playing Jameis makes it any worse. If he comes in and continues as turnover machine at some point RG4 should get a start just for the same reason we’re playing Jameis…to find out exactly what we have.

BTW the major issue for me about the 21 million has NOTHING to do with the Glazers or Jameis money…they are all fabulously wealthy no matter what happens to that 21 million…my concern is giving away that much cap space if Jameis is not the QB going forward.

Fans need to calm down. We have been through this season is lost stuff before. Remember to not get too low when things are tough like now. Trust in this: the NFL process will take its course. Looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces in 2019. I would give Winston that 5th year ($20M – 1 year is worth the peek) with new coach and draft a 3 down RB! Marpet back at RG.

    Go Bucs!

  187. T REX Says:

JOE, we don’t need our worthless owners meddling anymore than they do. They suck out loud. They make awful football decisions and I consider them some of teh worst owners in all of sports. The glazers are trash. Their decisions are trash.

HIRE A PREZ OF FOOTBALL OPS and go back overseas or LA or Palm Beach or wherever it is that isn’t Tampa.

I am so glad we cancelled our club seats. They d bags aren’t getting another penny from me.

  188. AncientBuc Says:

Leave Jameis our of this mess. Nothing good comes from him playing for poor leaders, bad scheme and bad teammate like DJax. He needs to reflect, and work hard for new regime. He has enough talent on 48 game films to entice any offensive coach with getting the best from him. Poor decisions reflect poor practice habits that have plagued this coach by his own admission from the start.

  189. TOM Says:

First off the Bucs can hire & fire all the Gm’s & coaches they want. Get rid of players. Get new players. The problem is they still have the stinking Glazers (aka Culvehouse) still running the show & don’t give a rats ass about winning, just the $$$.

  190. Troy Says:

How the h3ll is this a bad scheme exactly? Trust me, we will have a new regime next year. Winston will show he still sucks and I’ll get to watch on here as people make more excuses for him. This book has been written. Until people actually get over it and admit that Jameis is exactly what the college scouts said he was, those of us who are the realists can’t help and the franchise will suffer. One day, by the grace of God, we’ll actually draft a winner at QB to build this franchise around.

  191. BUC_40 Says:

Maybe ownership doesn’t want Jameis on the field. If he gets injured they’re on the hook for his salary next year. Maybe they know they’re going a different way @GM and @Head Coach and want to leave the option of keeping Winston or moving on from him up to the new GM and or HC without and injury forcing their hand.

  192. RustyRhinos Says:

Good luck Jameis, here’s to hoping and praying for him not to continue his non-stellar play. His last 4 games he has had 10 INTERCEPTIONS! With 4 fumbles in 4 games and a Picksix. What could possibly go wrong with that stat sheet example. Jameis welcome to what have you done for me lately reality. Let us all hope (not) that on the Second series of his next game he pulls a groin (his not a female AZ uber driver’s) and is out until OTAs. Perfect. Cha-ching$$$$!!! Oh yeah no worries, we can rest easy with this vetran NFL QB getting to start again knowing he has several top 10 QB stats in his first 4 seasons. 3 top 10 ranking of NFL QB in Interceptions, 2 seasons of top 10 QBs in Fumbles 3 seasons of top 10 QB in Picksixes. Ah to be young and so nonchalant with the football that feeds you. Be careful Jameis. NFL = Not For Long, Say, ain’t that right Mr. Glanville.
    Go! Bucs

  193. Fire Light Says:

Jameis is a future HOFer.. This mess in Tampa is bad….

  194. Bucsfanman Says:

    HOFer?!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!
A little early to be hitting the pipe ain’t it?!

  195. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Here’s a nice bit of information:

Owners don’t care about how much the team pays for players.

    Why?

Because they have a minimum spending cap regardless. Saving money on one just means spending it elsewhere. Why should they care about the money.

What they care about is having a successful product; not short term, but long term success. If they knew the future and knew that starting Winston and keeping Koetter and the offensive staff, and Licht, would result in one more losing season but then a Superbowl and some playoff runs, do you think they’d still fire them?

No. Because they would know that the long term investment would pay off.

If they truly feel that Jameis Winston is going to improve, then they will not get rid of him. They’ll do what it takes to keep him, and that includes risking injury and even extending him at some point.

It won’t matter if we fans believe or not. What matters is whether the owners believe in him. Period.

Whine all you want. Won’t make a bit of difference.

  196. TrickyRicky Says:

Enough of this start Jameis crap, he’s a loser on and off the field, I say FIRE Light and Koetter TODAY, Get rid of both Jameis and Fitz and start from scratch next season, this team needs a complete overhaul period.

  197. Nick2 Says:

For all of you who dont want Jameis starting please realize his weakness is Ryan Fitzpatricks TURNOVERS. And Fitz has had 10 more years to perfect turning the ball over to the other team. Yesterday he played magically between the 20’s and then managed to hand the game to the Redskins like he handed the game to Pittsburgh. Winston is not in a good state right now either but if you think about it he has pretty much no running game and Koetter has him taking deep drops and chucking it downfield which was never his strong suit. Jameis is great outside the pocket, yet Koetter just wants him to be the prototype QB like Matt Ryan which he is not. Bruce Arians would do wonders but it sounds like Cleveland is the only gig he would like oh well…

  198. Pete I Says:

How can anyone believe in Jameis, even the Glazers aren’t that lousy businessmen are they Buckaroo Bonsai?

  199. Jmarkbuc Says:

    tnew

Shame the Bucs didn’t promote Buck to see if he was the guy.
    ——————————————
Buck couldn’t coach his guys up enough to beat an offensive line that was literally hired off the street last week…they had Alex Smith standing back there untouched for 10 seconds…

And while I agree with those that say that the thing to do is find good professional Football men and a Pres. of Ops…

Can anybody tell me where the nearest NFL Front Office Depot is?

  200. D1 Says:

    “Front office Depot”
Lol……best laugh I’ve had all day.

Wonder if any of the fabulous 4 could find it with GPS navigation , neon signs and arrows pointing down to the store from the sky.

  201. ME 13 Says:

Trade back pick up all the extra picks an to Fumble the ball at pick # 12 when he had a Blue chip player sitting there ( Derwin James) not to talk about Nick Chubb or LSU CB Jackson 6’2 run 4.3 40 an still maybe a chance to get C Davis111 !!!! That would have changed the whole D !!! Dork hit the Light an they picked a 2down run stuffer an R Jones an MJ Stewart !!!

  204. Foustie Says:

This is getting ridiculous and making us all look stupid. Jameis Winston gives us the best chance to win. Period.

  205. Tyrell from TN Says:

I’m over this season as a whole. I didn’t watch any football Sunday other than a play or 2 here or there.

The news yesterday to stick with Fitz is beyond crazy. I just knew Sunday we’d get to see Jameis back under center, but the coach is who we thought he was a Fu@k!n* coward.

I think the fans should protest and stay home the next home game, and not resell their tickets. I’m DONE with Koetter and Licht
