“There Is No Saving Dirk Koetter”

November 23rd, 2018

Doomed says former NFL DB.

A former Pro Bowl safety who won a ring in his playing days believes the Bucs are at the T-intersection of Future and History roads.

America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, may still be the future. Koetter, however, is history.

That’s the word from former NFL safety Ryan Clark of BSPN. Koetter is in the rearview mirror, Clark said in a segment on NFL Live earlier this week.

However, the issue for Jameis is the Bucs don’t know whether to turn left or right at the stop sign. And Clark, who won his ring with the Steelers in the 2008 season, believes there is no excuse for Jameis not starting the remaining six games of the season no matter how many interceptions he may have.

“It feels like every Monday we are talking about this because Dirk Koetter is making a change at quarterback,” Clark said. “You have to give [Jameis] the opportunity to see if Jameis Winston is their quarterback of the future. Will they make some type of commitment to him as an organization and as a team? So you have gone back to Jameis Winston [against the Giants]. You’ve made this change [anointing him the starter against the 49ers]. Even if he throws four picks the same way he did in Cincinnati, this is the guy you ride with to finish out the year.

“To me, Dirk Koetter is gone. There is no more saving Dirk Koetter and his job. Now we need to see if we have to go out in this draft and get a quarterback or work through free agency or do we have our guy in a No. 1 overall pick, Jameis Winston?”

And as jet-flyin’, kiss–stealin‘, data-analyzin’, Bucs-film-studyin’, limousine-ridin’ Thomas Bassinger of the Tampa Bay Times pointed out last night after the Saints beat the Dixie Chicks, the Bucs are mathematically eliminated from winning the NFC South.

It is unconscionable in Joe’s eyes to even fathom journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in another game this season.

Dirk Koetter is so awesome…………………as an offensive coordinator….that’s it

  2. Easy Says:

And Licht should be out the door before Dirk goes

  3. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Thats why you tank tank tank.

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ve sais here countless times even before this season, Dirk is one of those guys who has a lane. HE’s great at doing just one job. Mpt every coach in this NFl is HC material. And Dirk’s not one of them..at least not on a consistent winning level. Sure, He’ll have a few 9-7’s and 8-8 years. But we ain’t gettin to the promised land with him. When Smitty was included in the deal, even my wife from Stone Mountain Ga said, Ohh God..NOooooooo! IF..the Glazers were smart, they’d step back out of the football Guts of the biz and hire some no how to call all of the Football shots. Because these Guys (Glazers) Just have no clue. Thats what I’d do as an owner, Kick back and collect them profits baby. Let Know How..get her done. Butt..they won’t.

  5. Pete I Says:

And there shouldn’t be any saving of koetter…he, like just about everything else with this organization, sucks. Being tied to Winston was a fools errand and was doomed to be the anchor that drowned him but Koetter was bad on almost all fronts that the end that is coming was inevitable.

He never showed he had IT for head coach material.

  6. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ and Jameis will be just fine when he is gone

  7. WillieG Says:

Why do people keep saying the Bucs need to play Winston so that they can “see what they have”?

Have they not been paying attention? He is the exact same player now that he was when he came into the league: He is a turnover machine. He is inaccurate. He doesn’t properly secure the ball when he runs, or is under pressure. He throws into double coverage when another receiver is wide open. He hasn’t improved a bit. Not one bit.

How hard is it to learn that you have to secure the ball with both hands when you run, or are under pressure? That should be learned after the very first fumble in Pee Wee football. It shouldn’t take several years of playing pro ball to figure out.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I like Koetter. I would not mind him staying. I suppose the Glazers could surprise everyone and keep him. They did last year.

But with it being the last year of his contract, it would mean giving him a new one. If that were to happen, I can’t see it being more than a two year deal with no guarantees on the second year.

I do like him as head coach though…at least until he gave up on Jameis. That made no sense to me (except in the second half of that final Winston game before).. Jameis should have started the following week, because the team needed to show the rest of the players that they believed in Jameis. By giving up on him., Koetter pretty much told them he did not believe.

He has not lost the locker room yet, but I can see it coming by the end of the season. Unless the players decide to try to save his job.

Jason Licht will stay regardless. I do not see any scenario where he leaves this year. Sorry haters. Even if the Glazers were to convince Jim Harbaugh to come back, he would likely want Jason Licht to remain. Josh Daniels would too.

And anyone else would be less experienced, and Licht would remain.

So far as head coach, click my name to see head coaching candidates.

If you can sit here and say you’d actually be fine with retaining Koetter, than it is you who is part of the problem. Because Koetter is incredibly ill-suited to be a Head Coach and will never win a SB in the NFL or any major Championship game in college as a HC. He just doesn’t have it in him.

And the fact that you can’t see that makes your list of HC candidates about as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop.

That is absolutely 100% wrong. Jameis Winston actually improved each season in all areas except Interceptions and Fumbles.

The Interceptions and Fumbles increased because he was under more pressure each year, as evidenced by the increase in sacks each year.

This year, he has his best Passing Percentage, is actually tied for his least Interceptions at 11, has been sacked few times (which is why is other statistics improved), and his fumbles are greatly reduced. However, he has not played the full year, so it’s really not a fair comparison this year.

That’s your opinion. It does not make you right.

And, so far as head coaching options, I do not see you making any suggestions. Of course, that’s not your style. All you ever talk about is blowing this thing up and you offer no solutions other than that.

After all…that is the troll way, isn’t it?

  13. SchwiftyBuc Says:

It’s my opinion that correct has been proving to be true.

    A. Koetter has started each of the last 3 years by going 3-5.

    B. The roster improved in 2017 but the team regressed tremendously and went 5-11.

    C. Koetter has clearly given up, a great deal of his answers to questions post game this year have been laughable. Routinely saying things like he can’t fix it or if he knew how to fix it he would, or saying directly that Jameis will be here a lot longer than him.

Also, I was making many suggestions this offseason. I just told you in my last comment in the poll thread that I wanted us to dump Koetter and Licht last year and replace them with Jim Harbough and Dave Gettleman. I’m no troll just because I’m right and happen to have a differing opinion than you.

And yeah before you mention it I see that you have Jim Harbough listed as one of your candidates. And to that I say, the sun shines on a dogs rump every now and again; And a broken clock is right twice a day.

  14. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Excuse me, “my opinion that *Koetter* is proving to be true…”

  15. jmarkbuc Says:

    Bonzai

    Seriously?

If you can’t see Klueless doesn’t have it, you’ve gone blind…

This locker room couldn’t care less about Dork or what’s going on with this team.

Peyton Barber is about the only player I see who plays with heart.

  16. Pittsshore Says:

I would have never thought Captain Obvious was a man of color

  17. Dooshlarue Says:

    Bonzaii,

    Get some professional help man.
Winston’s interception number is lower because he’s only played how many games?

    Get a grip.

  18. joestang Says:

I hope Koetter holds the door open for Licht.

  19. Bojim Says:

I like Dirk. I hope he gets another job as an OC someplace.

  20. Jean Lafitte Says:

The only reason Koetter did all the switching back and forth was because he was trying to save his job. So many lose sight of that. I agree that now there’s no chance to save his job that he should let Jameis play out the remaining games. I just worry about the future drive to win and if Koetter even cares anymore. I would love to be a fly on the wall. This team is deflated.

  21. jmarkbuc Says:

    JPP played for Tom Coughlin…

What do you think he thinks of Dork?

  22. Fire Light Says:

Jameis Winston is ready for Koetter to go so he can ball out! Oh yeah… Firrrreeeeee Licht!

  23. NCBucsFan15 Says:

I love how so many people on this site think they know soo much more the any NFL GM or HC. Clearly if you were so good you should just put your name in the hat for the HC when it opens up. We already know what will happen. The next HC will be loved by half and the other half will be like mark my words they will be fired sooner then later we should have went with XYZ coach.

I have been coming to this site daily for yrs but the last few have been just a daily groundhog effect. Half love And will find a way to prove JW is the greatest and the other half complete other side of the coin. I don’t care who the QB or HC. Much less any player on the team is I just want to win.

  24. FowlBall Says:

When people who, by their own actions, show you they are, don’t argue with them.

Over more than three seasons JW has shown everyone who is. Why do we expect him to be any different now?

  25. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Wait a minute…Pear Shaped Petey D. “reported” that Koetter was on the verge of a 2 year extension. This of course was after the 11-5 guarantee and a follow-up comment on some cryptkeeper being beautiful…so take all Petey peddles with a pound of salt.

  26. Dapostman Says:

There are much better options as HC than Dirk Koetter out there. I get the work he did as OC in 2015 Winston’s first year and the Bucs wanted to build on that. But after 3 seasons other parts of the team have taken a step backwards and player development has been sub par. Time to see if Winston and the Bucs can improve with a new voice.

    #JimHarbaugh

  27. Dapostman Says:

    @Fowlball,

Winston has shown who he is under Koetter. No one knows who’ll he be under a better coach.

Can’t you see that “100% wrong” and “except Interceptions and Fumbles’
CANNOT be in the same sentence.
I scored a 100% on my test except for the nine I got wrong. LOL
“turnover machine” = leads the league in turnovers since he got here
“inaccurate” = how often he needs a diving catch for a completion, even on curls or comeback routes, or how often he throws behind a receiver on slants
“doesn’t properly secure the ball” = see “Egregious” comment by me a few threads back; plus fumbles have gone up not down each year
“throws into double coverage when another receiver is wide open” = pass to well-covered ?Humphries last game when ME13 was wide open right in front of Jameis, and would have been an easy first down
Willie G even left out ” stares at his primary receiver” = TNTC = too numerous to count.

    Dapostman

Why would Jim Harbaugh ever even think about coming to the Bucs.

First off he’s in his dream job!!! Coaching the team he QB’d in college….leading his alma mater. He’s earning as much as all but the top five coaches in the NFL and even the top Belichek is only making a few million more than Harbaugh.

Harbaugh…as are most in his profession who are successful…is TOTALLY set for life financially. He does not need another single penny. Money will have NOTHING to do with this.

So if Harbaugh should win tomorrow and go on to a National Title he’ll make more than NFL coaches and he does it with far greater job security than even Belichek.

Can someone come up with a SINGLE reason that Harbaugh would even consider the Bucs. Oh I get it…he’s on the verge of winning perhaps a National Title for his Alma Mater…he’s led one team to a SB only to lose to his brother. But hey who wouldn’t want to go to the absolute crappiest franchise in all of football to see if they do the impossible.

Harbaugh clearly can choose from a lot of football jobs…he has one of the best in the nation already…why would he take the worst job with the worst franchise. At this point if we’re honest the Browns are in better shape than us…I’d take Mayfield over
    JW but it’s close.

  30. firethecannons Says:

    Easy said it all
Dirk Koetter should follow Jason Licht and Mike Smith out the door as soon as feasibly possible

  31. firethecannons Says:

Probably will like to see Winston go out the same door too
Will get a chance rest of the season to evaluate–Bengals game was unacceptable though and honestly trading him if possible for a second round would be a good deal.

  32. Brandon Short Says:

The Bucs roster is stronger now than at any point in the last 10 seasons. That is a testament to Licht. There are still plenty of holes in it… but Licht has done a better job than anyone at building a talented team since Rich McKay and company.

That being said, I’m not sure I want Licht fired. He was hired by Dungy and Koetter was chosen for him. I wouldn’t mind giving Licht a shot for next year depending on where he plans to go regarding a head coach. The next coach he hires would be the first one he was allowed.

  33. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    ^^ @Brandon Short

Actually, it was Lovie Smith who basically hired Jason Licht.

  34. Kobe Faker Says:

2018 will be known as the year of the “IDAHO HOT POTATO”

    its fitsmagic, no its uber

Djax wants to be traded? make him captain and let him do whatever he wants

“what that famous quote from the JBF celebrity poster, Kobe Faker?

“You are what your coach is”

you think a team can win with this kind of indecisive leadership?

the separation of powers and checks and balances crumbled that fateful day

  35. Kobe Faker Says:

    @Tampa Bay Demon

    You are 100% correct

HC Lovie Smith hired Jason Gump

lovie wanted a yes man to all his signings and draftpicks

lovie didnt want a competent GM/player personnel exec

    he wanted a dummy

*person so dumb, they would draft a kicker in the 2nd round or a fat sloth instead of a pro bowl saftey in his backyard, if he had a chance

the good part was that lovie was a team player and not power hungry. but that fateful day january 6 2016 ruined all that

lovie HC, Klueless as OC and Gump as GM was working fine and trending up. separation of responsibility and accountability

    oh what could have been.

We would have been in the playoffs every year and fighting for the NFC championships

Glazer boys and the fans of Tampa was conned by the incompetent Gump

  36. Dapostman Says:

    @StPeteBucsfan,

I don’t know if Jim Harbaugh would be interested in the NFL or the Bucs. The Bucs should be interested in Jim Harbaugh though.

    #JimHarbaugh

  37. Darin Says:

My daily check at this site to see if Dirk has been fired yet. He is so bad he should be the first Bucs coach to get the axe before the end of the season. Any day now. Maybe after SF blasts them. I guarantee SF is game planning, unlike the bucs under klueless. Bye Daisy Dirk

  38. WalkdaPlank Says:

I agree, it should be Jameis till the end of the year.

That way he can solidify his place as a bust.

    Or turn it around (unlikely)

  39. SchwiftyBuc Says:

What Jameis does in this system for the remainder of the year is irrelevant to me.

You need to see him in another system before you can even think about moving on.

  40. Bucsmarley Says:

4 years of Winston with nothing but padded
Statistics. You people are crazy. Look at the other
New qbs. You would rather have Winston than
    Mahomes, Trubisky,Mariota, Darnold, Jackson
Mayfield. Ide take anyone of them over Winston
Your also forgetting the off field embarrassment
And showing no signs of growth. I’ve been a fan
Since the beginning and don’t care if we get
Rid of Jameis and he becomes another Doug
Williams. Seriously 4 years and making the same
Poor decisions but yet you jw blowers don’t
Get it. Do you really think we can’t find a
Better qb? Let our New GM and coach build us a respectable
    Roster

  41. Bucsmarley Says:

Let’s get stains, Dungy or brooks for GM
And hire Kris Richards to coach

  42. DayOnePaul Says:

This year’s draft is stacked with defensive linemen. Possibly more DL worthy of first round consideration than any year in memory. You can’t fight, what is. QBs are rare this year. Franchise QBs are rare, period. Some will elevate because they are QBs. Ignore it. Defensive Linemen are thick and talented. Winston is the best QB option. Let’s remember that he hasn’t had an off field issue since he was 21. A competent OC and HC are easier to find than a franchise QB. Jeezus, this is so simple.

  43. Destinjohnny Says:

    Well we have 6-10 talent
Let’s see if he wins 6

  44. Fire Light Says:

    Can koetter and Fireeeeee Licht!
