Don’t Blame DJax

November 6th, 2018

Explains target stats.

The quarterbacks may have changed but the results really haven’t.

Remember last year and into the offseason stretching into this spring, Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking coach Dirk Koetter sometimes squawked about how America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, failed to hit DeSean Jackson on a potential touchdown pass at Minnesota?

Well, Koetter yesterday in his day-after presser had virtually the same reaction to a missed connection to DJax. The only difference here is the quarterback was journeyman backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, not Jameis.

Koetter was answering a question about targets and specifically targeting DJax. Koetter cautioned that stats for targets doesn’t always tell the tale.

“I’d love to get more balls thrown to him, but you also see what happens after we got it back up and we just heaved one up to him at the end and it got intercepted,” Koetter explained. “Again, that’s a double-edged sword. We’re not trying to phase DeSean out of the offense or anything like that. We did have other things called for him and the ball didn’t go there, so on the stat sheet it doesn’t go down as a target.

“For instance, on the one sack, we were saying when we were in two-back, first play of the game that was either a Mike or DeSean thing. DeSean was wide-ass open, but we had pressure and he couldn’t get it to him.”

How many plays was Jackson “wide-ass open?” Koetter didn’t say. Bucs fans should also factor in Jackson prefers Fitz to play quarterback, yet the same issues seem to remain.

Is that the offensive line’s fault? Maybe.

    clean house…

    Kris Richard 4 HC!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  2. ChanEpic Says:

Overly loyal to D. Martin, Mike Smith and now Fitz. Coach K is a better man than coach. That’s not entirely terrible.

  3. Season Is Over Says:

We should not blame Jackson. We should blame Fitzpatrick. After all, he did miss a couple long passes with Jackson. The stellar reporting forgot to mention how many Mr. Magoo has missed in his time here.

  4. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Koetter won’t make it through this season… He’s clashed with Jameis and is openly supporting DJax who doesn’t want to be in Tampa anymore. Birds of a feather flock together. It’s just a shame that coaches contracts are guaranteed while the players aren’t. Cut Koetter. Fire Licht!

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

With no running game there is no play action pass. Safeties can rotate 15 yards from the LOS without fear of a RB hitting their 2nd gear.

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

I don’t blame Djax or Winston or Fitz for any of this sh1t.

I blame our GM for overseeing 5 offseason years of a rebuild through multiple coaches; getting to hand pick a coach; and still fielding the worst defense in the history of the NFL in 2018… when his first year was 2014….

I blame our coach for not having the foresight to see this sh1t defense was still going to be the product in year 3 and staying hands off and letting his buddy continue to fail.

I blame our coach for consistently fielding teams that can move the ball but not converting TDs and scoring at the same rate as they pile up yardage. And the yardage/offense being so good is an exaggeration. We suck at running the ball. We’re average at best in the red zone. We’re a one dimensional offense that throws a ton in shootouts. A lot of it IS somewhat garbage time – including 2nd quarters of games we are down 3-4 TDs. The game is inherently lopsided and different by that point. As Joe alluded to; Carolina was toying with us throughout our “comeback”.

Jason Licht you have absolutely failed.
Dirk Koetter, Mike Smith, and anyone else here has absolutely failed.

Blow the entire defense up. Make everyone earn a spot next year. Get rid of McCoy & Lavonte.

    + No run game.

    + Inconsistent pass blocking

+ Inconsistent and mostly terrible defense.

    + Below average special teams.

It doesn’t matter who you have at wide receiver or quarterback, no team can overcome that when every other phase of the game is sucking out loud.

  8. Jim Says:

I dreamt I saw Fitz throw a 70 yard TD to Jackson on the first play from scrimmage…

  9. LakeLand Says:

I don’t know why people are going on about DJax lack of targets

He has more than twice as many targets as Cam Brate
Cam Brate only has 20 targets, DJax 47 targets
And the Bucs just extended him…6 years, $41 Million contract

The Bucs signed DJax in 2017
And 6 weeks later they drafted OJ Howard and Chris Godwin
Common sense should tell them that there’s not enough balls to go around

They are wasting money on this receiving corps
Money and draft picks that should have been spent on the O-Line, Secondary

This Front Office has no idea
Of how to build a football team

  10. LakeLand Says:

And that 5th round pick they spent on WR Justin Watson

Was a pure ” Genius” move
    Made by the Bucs GM

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

That 5th round pick on Watson was gold. Hump and Jackson will be gone next year.

  12. Eric Says:

Can we beat the totally depleted skins? They are bringing guys in off the street to play Oline this Sunday.

  13. over him Says:

He is not America’s Quarterback – never was!!!

He is not a Pro-Bowler – substitutes who were not actually voted in don’t really count!!!

Tired about hearing Jaymiss has great stats – he does not. Check out how many 1st quarter and 2nd quarter passing yards he has. You will be surprised that his slow starts account for less than a third of his total yards. What we have here is garbage time stats against a prevent defense. Always coming from behind means a soft defense.

In his four years can anybody name a big game that he has won??? His winds are predominantly against cream puff competition. Do not put Jaymiss in the same class as those who you think are equal in stats. They wind the big games and lead their teams to the playoffs.

  14. HeavyE Says:

How about Norv Turner, for HC?????

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

I vote no to Norv…another great coordinator, who is not good as a HC

  16. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Over him

I mean if we’re talking his whole career, those wins against the Chiefs and Seahawks in 2016 were pretty impressive…

  17. SOEbuc Says:

I remember yelling at the TV on that deep ball play. DJax was held by that DB one second before the ball got there and it wasn’t called. If he hadn’t, that ball was on the money for a TD.

  18. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

The Glazers should “Wide-Ass” this team and pump it full of Ex-Lax, then start over.

  19. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

If Glazers don’t fire Licht and Koetter at the end of this season, I will know the root of the problem is the Glazers!

  20. SOEbuc Says:

    @Dewey Selmon

“That 5th round pick on Watson was gold. Hump and Jackson will be gone next year.”

Lol. I believe Watson has like one catch in a regular season game. DJax is gone. Hump isn’t going anywhere.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

F***you DeSean. You an overpaid scrub IMO.

I don’t care what you did in Philly or Washington. I’m a Buc fan and you’ve been a scrub on my team. 2 games worth mentioning?

You wanted to be traded? So did I. You a bum with money.

  22. Not there yet Says:

How bad if you can’t get pressure on Washington o line. I bet Geraldine is sweating over this game, he won’t have any excuses. They’re afraid of Petersen

  23. PSLBob Says:

All the talk about QB, receivers, the OL – on and on. It’s quitd simple. Our defense sucks in the biggest way possible. Whether it’s the scheme, personnel, effort, or all of the above, it really doesn’t matter. Dufner has adapted to Mike Smith’s scheme. It’s still the same overall scheme with a few tweaks. Until we get a modern-day, defensive guru to coach the players we have, we’ll never know. Wouldn’t you love to be in the opponents offices when they game plan for the Bucs defense. We may actually be able to beat Washington this week. When their offensive coordinator and assistant coaches watch the tape of last week’s abomination, they’ll be laughing so hard, they won’t be able to do any planning.

  24. LakeLand Says:

    PSLBob

They do have the old man aka Adrian Peterson

He may run for a buck 50

It may be Arizona all over again

  25. Grt1 Says:

Over him- Jameis yards are in the second half of course you moron!!!! When has Jameis had a defense here. We’re always behind!!!!! Man some fans are just idiots!!!!!!!

  26. passthebuc Says:

Someone, please tell Joe that all those people going to vote today were not deciding if JW stays on the team.

  27. PSLBob Says:

Lakeland, a buck 50 is more than doable. Particularly if he runs serpentine down the field.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Grt1…….To be fair Winston and the offense have played their part in us trailing so many games at halftime.

How many times has Dirk’s team gone into halftime with 7 or less points on the board? That is not good by any standard……Then factor in turnovers(well above league average) and you have a recipe for failure.

This is not to absolve this defense of anything. They are beyond horrendous. Just pointing out the fact that we losing games on both sides of the ball……..Our offense is far from being above critism.

  29. Firrrreee Licht Says:

Me Jackson needs to be outright released. He doesn’t wanna be here. He’s one good hit away from being out of the league. Maybe he should just quit like the guy from Buffalo and do the admirable thing.

  30. Armando Says:

I liked Koetter getting the HC job and I was hopeful but every aspect of this team has regressed and no little but alot. ALI MARPET WAS A MONSTER his 1st year at RG, so ofcourse lets make him a center his 2nd and move him to LG his third – WHATS THE F******************* POINT OF DRAFTING A STUD AT RG and we wonder why the OL sux? P.S. Glazers LISTEN TO EVERYTHING SAPP DADDY SAYS
